The Seven Stars in Exeter

My friends and I had a lovely lunch Lydia and her team was amazing considering how busy they were with 50% off, they certainly needed more team members on, she explained we had a wait for food which we didn't mind, can't fault the team they were all brilliant 😀

Love it here but need more staff

The welcome was a very warm one. We arrived about 20 minutes early but they were able to seat us straight away. 2 of us had the Sunday roasts and they were really lovely

Went on a busy 50% offer day even though they were understaffed the service was brilliant the food exceptional and tasty staff were friendly and nothing to much and considering how busy didn't have to much of a wait for food can't wait to go back thanks to Lydia and all the team

My friends and I came in today to a very busy restaurant, Lydia and her team 2 ladies were rushed off their feet, certainly not enough team for a busy 50% off deal. I did feel for them and the poor chefs trying to keep up, I'm in hospitally and we do have more team especially with big deals on.Now getting to the team, Lydia couldn't do enough not just for us but for the other guests aswell, explaining we would have a bit of wait for food which we fully understood. Now the food I had a 2 course meal and it was hot and fresh and tasted delicious 😋 We will be back as we love it there Well done Lydia, Natalie and Molly you all were brilliant couldn't ask for anything else.

Food is beautiful always is service is wonderful Salt sachets tho not very classy but at least we had some had to ask for more but still a wonderful evening with family from Canada and knew this was the place to take them they loved it all thank you

We had a lovely drink here, food looked good. Friend had a peanut allergy and they actually stopped selling them during our time there!

Lydia and Natalie amazing as usual nothing is to much trouble and we always look forward to seeing them when we visit.The food was great highly recommend the creme brulee and fisherman's catch but then I've never had anything i didn't like.

We love Seven Stars - Janine and team are always super attentive and it’s such great value for money. Had the Sunday Roast Beef Rib today and other half had the Mixed Grill - soooo much food and it was cooked fantastically! We’ll be back soon

Food was delicious! I had the beef Mac n cheese while my partner has the rainbow lasagna. It’s all decent priced and the team was lovely! Huge shout out to Kaye and Sam for the great customer service. Molly was lovely also definitely would recommend again!

Staff are always friendly and welcoming. Pints are top quality and if its ever the end of an ale barrel, it's changed quickly and replacement poured. Great for a pint on the way home or meeting up with friends.

Visiting on a Monday evening it was expectedly quiet but the manager was so agitated it was as if the place was full. She was buzzing all over the place and achieving nothing talking to us as if she was being totally harassed with ridiculous heavy breathing making us all feel on edge and uncomfortable. In all of my years in this industry I have never seen anything like it. There was cutlery on the floor and salt packets where she was standing our entire visit which I picked up on our way out and placed next to her. The food was basic pub food but cooked OK, it just took an unnecessarily long time.

We booked by ansafone but the phone message wasn’t looked at. We tried to order ciabattas, but were told we were looking at an old menu - it was the online menu. The menus in the pub were the old ones and very well used! I ended up having soup and my friend had a fish finger sandwich. She left a considerable amount of this as it was greasy. When I tried to book online I was asked how long I wanted the table for! It would have depended on how quick the service was. The waitress said it was because it was coming up to Christmas - 6th November!! The Brunch menu was only served on Saturday, so why was it displayed on Wednesday. All in all a bad experience.

We rocked up today with 4 adults and 4 kids, the staff were friendly and the pub was generally in good order, a little tired but not neglected. We didn’t have high expectations, but having tried a few places without reservation we stopped in. We ordered 8 meals and they were all fantastic, three of us had the beef rib and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals for £13! Places like this are usually cheap and cheerful and you don’t expect much for the price mark. The food was all hot, right, delicious and served by happy staff, which in this day and age is a miracle. The staff were proactive in bringing a high chair and checking back promptly on food and drinks. 8 mains and 8 drinks for £100. Glad we stopped in and would do so again when travelling through Exeter.

Went for a pub lunch, food was good, cooked fresh so nice and hot and tasty. They do a set menu that looks good value, and service was prompt.

The pub was very busy when we arrived but the staff made us feel comfortable and very welcome. There was a little wait on food but it was warm and a great atmosphere so it wasn’t a problem. Food was great. Best Shepherds pie ever! Lydia and Molly went above and beyond

We actually ended up leaving shortly after being sat down. There was a smell of cigarette smoke wafting through the door, otherwise it smelt of BO and the sticky, badly cleaned tables. It was empty with no music, bad atmosphere and the waitress who showed us to our table may as well have pointed it out from the other side of the building, she barely said anything other than this is our table and it's order at the bar. She point she walked way ahead of us, pointed at the table whilst we were still 15ft away and then paced off.. not sure why, as it was not busy and she just stood around! The food selection wasn't great, and the table we were given had a sofa one side and a chair the other, not normally an issue but it was right in the split of two sofa cushions and it was so soft and far back that I could barely reach the table and sit properly, let alone eat. We were excited to try here, but we didn't even order a drink and we won't be returning.

I had come in and placed an order for some food and drink. I was served by a gentlemen named Ashton who had impeccable service - he served me with a smile and carried out my order very quickly. The food was also lovely as well as being reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!

Lydia wasn't here on one of the days we came and what a difference this made, she works hard and make the meal even better.

Came for a meal withy family. Food was lovely, worth every penny and big portions. Service was great, they couldn't do anymore for you. Was greeted by a lady called Lydia as you walk in, she was lovely and helpful! She changed our table to accommodate for a pushchair. Was a very busy lunch time but they always came and checked in to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything. Will definitely be back!

I would like to take the time to thank Ruby for her service today, the food was lovely but she really made it a pleasurable tea time, she took her time with us, was patient with our children and made us laugh. Very friendly, we walked home smiling

Fantastic food, and the staff are very welcoming. I would recommend seven stars to Anyone. A 6 star rating if I could give that.

Have tried twice to eat here. The first time there was a no walk-ins notice on the door, the second time was told we couldn't have a table and had to book. Understandable if its that busy and popular, but they have massive billboards advertising food. Maybe make booking before turning up clearer to?

The service was good, the food mediocre. The Mac cheese was awful, tasteless. The macaroni cheese you buy in a packet is better.

The staff were amazing and so friendly. The service is impeccable and the food was glorious! I had the steak which came with onion fries and I would go back just for the fries! Absolutely amazing, I would totally recommend it to anyone!

Used to love visiting the Seven Stars Exeter for lunch and often went. Things have gone downhill since the change to the Menu. The food was not good and seems like it was budget food…. Although the prices certainly aren’t for what you get! Sadly we won’t be visiting again. The outside looks very shabby and not at all welcoming as scaffolding has been up for many months. What is going on Ember Inns? Very disappointing.

Staying in hotel down road went as a walk in. They were busy at 6pm but the fitted us in enjoyed food,good value 2 course meal after 5pm. Cocktails made as ordered were lovely.

Excellent food and service. The staff are so helpful and pleasant, nothing is to much trouble. Food arrived quickly and was delicious, great value for money. We will be back soon.

Food was average but it wasn't expensive,the place is clean and tidy.

Met family and spent a considerable amount of money but unfortunately the food was over cooked. Felt quite uncomfortable as there seemed to be too many staff working and who felt it necessary to linger around and watch our table.

The food wasn't of great quality but it wasn't bad, the service is kept to a minimum (you order by phone and you get your own water) But the place is nice, on the street but nice

Me, my daughter and granddaughter came in for lunch today, the staff were very friendly and greeted us politely, we had a fantastic lunch, I had the avocado and grain salad with a chicken skewer and it was delicious, my daughter had the sausage and mash, 10/10. We were served my Lydia

Good atmosphere but the staff are rude and when went to the till to order food and drinks got told that I could order drinks but not taking food orders and this was only at 6pm

Walked in with 3 young children, it was very quiet. Smiled to he members of staff and asked for a table, to be abruptly asked if we had booked a table and sighed at ,as it's summer holidays when we hadn't was told by I think it was the manager as wasn't in uniform that they need the table back withina hour and a 15 as again, it's the summer holidays. This was fine. There was no need to be so rude to paying customers in a very quiet restaurant, also we are aware it's summer holidays as I have 3 young children with me that all go to school hence why I went in with them on a Wednesday. We ordered our food within 5 minutes of being seated, then to be huffed and puffed at while we ate and plates being taken before we had all finished. When we left there were 2 tables in this restaurant. I tried to get eye contact as I left to speak to a member of staff but they avoided my eye and carried on their own conversation.

We had a nice meal here. We sat outside because of the good weather. You sit at a picnic table, which is less pleasant for your back and buttocks in the long run. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Service was fantastic. Lydia the manager was so helpful and really good fun . Nothing was to much . Staff were fantastic and once again another fab meal. The chef sould be proud.

The service was great and the staff were very friendly. The food was very tasty and the steaks were all cooked as ordered. Plates cleared straight away and the desserts were very pleasing. Would definitely recommend eating there.

The service was good from start to finish. A nice welcome and we were shown to our table. We chose, went to the bar to order where the staff were very good. Waiting staff good and check back within 5 to 10 minutes. They food was lovely and hot and cooked well. Good team on this shift.

Stayed in a local hotel and dined/drank here twice. Good menu - especially loved the sea bass fillets - priced reasonably and had a good selection of beers & ciders on draught.

We had an excellent meal today. We find the food great and service friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and they will change to fit your likes .

Food basic staff not that bothered

Very disappointed with the food - overcooked/ burnt chicken, undercooked veg, including cauliflower cheese, although tried the sauce and it only tasted of nutmeg or whatever was added, certainly not cheese. It was a treat for my grandchildren who I am now cooking for as they ate so little! I tried to get them to eat their chicken but both immensely dislike burnt anything! I was given some money back but I must say Ashton was extremely attentive and was going backwards and forwards to arrange the refund, well done Ashton you were so courteous and understanding, you should be proud of yourself! For you alone I would give ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️. My big QUESTION is where was the Management? I have worked extensively in the food industry and the one thing I would never have done is throw any of my staff under the bus, this sort of complaint is ALWAYS for Management to deal with, not to be invisible! We won’t be back sadly, even though you refunded me £10 out of the £25. I still felt what we did manage to eat (roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding and gravy plus 2 scoops ice cream) was in no way worth £15. I was not about to dispute this further as felt it was not fair on Ashton to be a go between! Praise again to Ashton x

We asked if the open steak sandwich could we have it has a sandwich instead of open the chief said no wasn’t a lot to ask not good customer service apart from that service was ok

The food was delicious as usual , me and my family went for a meal we had two savers meals which u can have 2 courses for 11.29 and , kids food is cheap and affordable , staff are nice and always make you laugh , sometimes they are fully booked but when you can be fit in make sure you check out the brownies 😊

My friend and I had lunch yesterday at the Seven Stars in Exeter. The service was good as usual. We had posh (sea bass) fish and skin on chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. It was piping hot and the fish was lovely. Janine and Lydia were serving and as always friendly and polite. In fact all the staff are great. The tables have always been cleared after use , ready for the next customer. I would highly recommend The Seven Stars Exeter

Slow service, messed up food orders and then took 15-20 minutes to resolve it and bring out sides that were a part of the main meal ordered. Wouldn’t return

We went for the curry evening and were disappointed. The gravies were delicious BUT it would have been better if they had been introduced to the meats. In the Lamb Jalfrezi there was ONE piece of meat and my Madras had three. And on another note, they need to clean the pillars next to the tables. They contained more content😞

Great food. Great price.Vegetarian and vegan options. Served by Lydia, who was very attentive, keeping an eye on her customers needs, without being obtrusive. I was impressed, so I mentioned to her that we'd noticed that she was doing a good job. Mac and Cheese and Beer Battered Mushrooms...piping hot and very tasty !

Only went in for a quick lunch, cheesy garlic bread, and battered mushrooms( had to ask for the dip once it had arrived.) waited 40 mins, and there were 6 outside eating and 20 inside max eating, but it still took 40 mins Staff didn't seem to know where they were doing all and all, not an experience we would not be repeating

I visited on a Friday evening and there was an extra noisy table behind us so it was hard to have a conversation but the service was great overall. I just found my burger to be a little burnt but I did eat it all!!

Perfect apart from the special £2.50 price for a starter or desert on a Sunday. As new customers we were NOT told about this deal and we ordered from the menu that was on the table. We looked at the desert after our meal and found the two menus on the table were different. Maybe if you take away all other menus and just leave the Sunday menu this would not have been an issue. The food and service were fantastic and we will return but will check the menu before ordering.
