We were having a wander of the area around our hotel looking for somewhere for dinner and were so pleased we found the Prospect. Lovely spot on the water front and food was amazing. The burger was obviously homemade and so tasty. The scotch egg to start was also amazing. Will definitely go back the next time we're in Exeter.

Came here a few times on our visits to Exeter. Feels very cozy and welcoming. Very sweet staff. I wished we'd made it here for dinner as the menu looks great! Nice wines on offer. Quality drinks generally available. Beautiful house plants here. Lovely old traditional building with nooks to cozy up in.

Discovered this little gem of an eatery whilst on a bimble around Exeter with favourite wife. Although we made a reservation for 1300, comedy shopping resulted in a two hour delay to our arrival. Instead of being upset, the amazing team saw the funnier side of our tardiness and welcomed us to the gem of a restaurant overlooking the quay. Whilst the view was lovely, the food (fish and chips) was sublime and a good ' healthy' portion... So good in fact that I didn't need the cheese board .. which was a shame as it sounded delicious. Whilst the food and view are excellent, it was the amazing staff who totes topped off the visit with polite, friendly and a caring approach. A real gem in what can be a busy city. Definitely worth escaping the routine haunts around the cathedral and stretching them legs in support of a fantastic experience.

I have visited the establishment fairly frequently since I moved to Exeter, my favorite thing about it is how much they cater towards Dogs! The staff are exceptional, and are so friendly, even when it is packed full of customers! Good job guys! The owner ( Mark) has a great sense of humor! He is a very down to earth, no nonsense sort of man, very easy to get along with! I have had great conversations with him. The Food is Exquisite, Especially the chips! I highly recommend giving it a visit!

We have been to The Prospect for the past few weeks to watch the jazz on the quay & I wanted to say a very well done to the staff for the way they manage the influx of many more customers for these Sunday afternoon events. They are polite, friendly & very efficient. I would guess that today they may even have been short staffed (they are advertising vacancies) but still they are busily making sure that no-one waits too long. They are removing empty glasses speedily & keeping everything tidy. Great job & congrats to the management.

So… myself, partner and the two younger children visited the quay as we often do, we had fish n chips and it was quite a miserable evening. We were just outside this establishment and thought why not move a bench, where we could eat under cover. This resulted in moving one of the very many vacant benches less than 1ft…. Within a few seconds a very aggressive and rude male, came stomping over pointing and shouting in front all four of us.. not interested in the fact were just about to order a drink (which we subsequently didn’t and never will there EVER AGAIN). I appreciate maybe the benches aren’t to be moved, however it was simply how he handled it. It traumatised the children who now never want to go to the quay ever again. His behaviour was simply appalling and so so over the top. He stated he was licensee, if that’s his typical demeanour god help his staff and regular customers. I’m a reasonable adult, so swiftly moved the very heavy bench back… if I’m honest I was shocked by his behaviour and others may of been less accepting of his aggressive nature. The End!

We’d been canoeing up the quay and stopped off to have a drink before heading home. With our bags, and empties from the journey (finished and ready to go in the bin I may add!!!). An extremely rude middle aged man came up to abruptly and shouted “these tables are for the prospect, you can’t drink those here” without giving us chance to respond he walked off. I’ve since found out he is the owner - clearly not bothered about how rude he is to customers, won’t be returning!!!

There are a lot of eateries in the Quay but this one tempted us in with an interesting specials board, and it did not disappoint. Really good food at not-so-stupid prices - brill fillets cooked perfectly and a great variation on the veggie burger. Also a very pleasant atmosphere inside, with some great views - on a sunny day you can sit right next to the river, but this is one of the few eateries along the Quay where you can sit inside in winter and still get the view. Staff very friendly and efficient.

Located on the historic quay in Exeter, The Prospect Inn oozes memories of travelers from far afield whilst being progressive with its food and drink. The staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The menu was full of things I wanted to try and I settled for the chilli which was not too spicy with a dark chocolatey feel to the dish. My wife had the steak and ale pie which she describes as “ excellent and meaty “. Our son, who we were visiting at Uni had a beautiful plate of fish and chips which he devoured in true student fashion! Our three dogs may have had a few cheesy chips. All in all a great lunch and due to it being dog friendly we will be sure to visit again. Thanks.

Culinary Delight Beyond Expectations I recently had the pleasure of dining at Prospect, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted by an inviting ambiance that set the stage for a memorable evening. The menu at Prospect is a testament to culinary innovation, featuring a diverse selection that caters to various tastes. Each dish was a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with a perfect balance of flavors and presented with an artistic flair. The attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience was truly commendable. The service was impeccable, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff who elevated the overall atmosphere. They were attentive without being intrusive, creating an environment that felt both refined and welcoming. Standout dishes included venison, which showcased the chef's culinary prowess. The wine pairing recommendations were spot-on, enhancing the overall dining experience. In addition to the exceptional food and service, the ambiance of the restaurant was thoughtfully designed, contributing to the overall enjoyment of the evening. Whether it's a special occasion or a desire for an exquisite culinary adventure, Prospect undoubtedly delivers an unforgettable dining experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Prospect to anyone seeking a gastronomic journey that transcends expectations. It's a culinary gem that deserves every accolade. Bon appétit! Gav B

The food is good pub food with a good range of specials that change every so often. The choice of beers and ciders on tap is pretty good. Having not been to the Quay for a few years we didn't realise the park bench style tables over the road from the premises were connected to the pub. No signs alert you to this. We had made an error sitting down on them not realising. I wouldn't mind at all to be politely informed that they were for customers. Sadly we were abruptly told that 'We do expect you to purchase something from us for you to sit there'. Being someone who tries to be polite it was very embarrassing and we were made to feel like some sort of criminals. It was unessecary, and a more polite tone would have been appreciated. The man to our left wasn't told to move despite not purchasing anything himself. It was upsetting and left us feeling very negatively about the place.

Have tried twice to eat here. The first time there was a no walk-ins notice on the door, the second time was told we couldn't have a table and had to book. Understandable if its that busy and popular, but they have massive billboards advertising food. Maybe make booking before turning up clearer to?

A group of us met in Topsham for a walk and lunch. Not knowing how many would turn up, I had booked for 12. In the event, there were 17 all keen for a lunch. All credit to the team at The Lighter for accommodating us all on a very busy day, even managing when we turned up an hour earlier than planned. The food was excellent, the service too. Wholeheartedly recommend the smoky fish pie. Best fish pie I have ever eaten, and I have tasted quite a lot. Well done chef. Handshake from the South Devon Ramblers.
