Excellent, typical English pub that has been around for centuries. It has several rooms and two terraces with a very calm and pleasant atmosphere and traditional furniture. The burger is divine, accompanied by a pint of beer, cider or juice. A very good experience, this being our second visit.

We traveled to Salisbury in December 2024 during a cruise. After our stay in the cathedral with its wonderful choirs, we went back to this pub – that's part of a stay in England... And yes, it was very cozy. Comfortable seating. And there was even a fireplace. The service was very good and they served us a great beer – not quite as cheap as in Germany – but hey, the ambiance made up for it.

And if you’re fortunate enough to be served by Ellie it will make your dining experience exceptional. 10/10 would recommend.

Really flexible. They swapped out potatoes and replaced with some delicious vegetables for a low-carb diet. The chicken could perhaps have had a touch more sauce as it was a little dry, but lovely flavoursome food.

Oldy worldy pub, quite central in Salisbury within walking distance of the train station. We had a lovely vegetarian Sunday lunch (nut roast) in a side room. Food and service were good. They were able to do a gluten free gravy (non veggie) and a veggie gravy. Low on gluten free desserts. Would go back.

We recently visited the New Inn as a family group of twelve for Sunday/Birthday lunch. The booking was made for 12.00 on a Sunday and upon checking the opening time online, I saw that the venue was due to opensat 12.00. As some guests were travelling a distance and the weather was changeable, I thought it sensible to call and check the precise details and what time time we would be expected to sit down to eat. After several unanswered calls and the absence of a functioning voicemail system, I eventually spoke to a staff member and what I thought was a straightforward question, proved quite difficult to elicit an answer to but we got there in the end. At the time the booking was made, we were requested to supply our individual choices as the venue used place settings and the staff would know whose order was whose. In addition, that teas and coffees would be available afterwards. The required names and choices were passed to the venue in good time. Upon arrival, it was apparent that there were no place settings and I queried why. I was told that whilst place settings were used for parties, as we had submitted our choices the staff would know individual's specific choices, so there was no requirement for place settings. The staff member, (E) pointed out to me that she had been in the business over fifteen years and knew what she was doing. I went on to explain my difficulties in communicating with the staff member on the phone and I was curtly told that the individual concerned had been in the business for over twenty years! We sat down to eat at a sticky table. As the food arrived, served by two staff members, (E) and one other. It was clear that (E) knew exactly what people had ordered but her colleague didn't and this caused some confusion. An elderly member of the party was concerned that his beef was not cooked to his satisfaction so staff member (E), took it away only to return it moments later advising that she had inspected it and that was well done! This style of customer service was a new experience to me and in my opinion, more likely to achieve customer humiliation than customer satisfaction! After the meal, I requested to place an order for teas and coffees but was told to my total surprise that teas or coffees would not be available as the venue had no coffee machine.

Myself and some friends visited recently. One of our party is currently in a wheelchair. On arrival, I went inside and asked if they have accessible access? Straight away the staff behind the bar said yes. They had a separate door with a handmade wooden ramp which they put up next to the step into the door. They then took us through the garden and both men lifted the wheelchair with our friend into the pub and then into the bar area. Nothing was too much trouble and we weren’t made to feel an inconvenience. Thank you for making us feel welcome and being able to enjoy your lovely pub. Merry Christmas

Didn’t actually get to try anything as, although the sign outside says family and dog friendly, the bloke behind the bar tutted at us, rolled his eyes and said ‘no chance’. There were 6 adults, 2 children, a baby and 2 well behaved dogs. There was room for us as there were 2 tables of 4 where people were just leaving. So we went to The Chapter House where we were warmly welcomed and spent £350 on our food and drink. How can a pub turn that down? Not even pleasant either. No wonder pubs are closing …..

I have been to the New Inn several times for Sunday lunch and have enjoyed the food, Today we ordered three roast dinners, when the food arrived it was luke warm. The food was reheated in the microwave. One was hot, another was still luke warm and the third which had a small amount of gravy on when it went back to the kitchen was returned swimming in gravy so was replaced with another dinner which was hot but the yorkshire pudding was burnt. Will definitely not be going back.

Food always good, service and friendliness always spot on as is value for money. I’m not sure if it’s changed hands but I was slightly disappointed yesterday. Friendly welcome as always, lunch menu had changed but it read ok, opted for open sandwich at £16 quite hefty but fair enough, but it came on one piece of normal sliced square piece of granary bread, with a big chunk of Stilton and 3 small slices of steak on top and a small side salad - the chips didn’t arrive so they were removed from the bill. It was ok nothing special, I would have been happy to pay £10. Would I return…yes but feel a bit sad about the food

Former employee posting: Do not give this company your custom. Employers have refused to pay owed tips and outstanding holiday pay to all staff despite consistent reminders, and are now withholding tips and threatening employees. Tips have not been received by staff since January this year. This was a hard working group of employees who do not deserve to be treated this way. For a pub with expensive pricing the profit is not seen by those doing the hard work.

The food was delicious and I need to return to sample the other menu offerings. The bacon chop was perfect. The restored Hop Pole is also a welcoming place for meeting friends for a drink.

Nice local rustic pub, attentive service/lovely food. In warmer weather an outdoor seating area providing lovely views. ☺
