What has happened to this place. First the positives....food was very good, the ciabattas are good value for money...they also came out very quickly . Unfortunately that's where the good stuff ended. the atmosphere was like a really bad holiday camp, screaming children, kids cycling around tables, groups of swearing ( I presume) campers. It was actually quite intimidating. Not a tranquil sit by the river at all. This will most definitely be my last visit here.

Not Disabled Friendly!!! Went to this establishment while in a six month recuperation in ICU sadly my condition has left me disabled with a very longterm trachea & with walking difficulties so now need a walking aid.We went to the bar and asked if they could bring our drinks out to us & the bar person refused she said no drinks are brought to the outside tables..Was very shocked with her reply especially after letting her know I have a disability and it's quite obvious I have a trachea in my throat!! We left the establishment & on the way out another bar lady offered but I felt so discriminated I left and went elsewhere..On the way out we witnessed staff taking out meals to the grass area where we were going to sit.

We’d read a couple of negative reviews so didn’t know what to expect. The service and food were amazing!! One of the young men took our food allergy very seriously and was really accommodating. The lamb burger was so tasty and the chunky chips were delicious, crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. The Cauliflower Cheese was creamy and peppery. And the location sat relaxing next to the river in the sun was perfect. Thank you very much.

My husband, my two kids, our dogs and I went for a very long walk from Coombe Hill and stumbled across this beautiful place. An ideal setting with very friendly staff, we sat inside with our dogs which was lovely. We ordered drinks and food, everything was very good quality at a decent price. I can honestly say the chips were the best I have ever eaten. The toilets were clean and the whole place was a very comfy cosy vibe. We will definitely be back! Thanks again :)

Called in at the weekend and oh my goodness what has happened to this place? Calling it a dump would be an understatement, the staff have no interest the ladies toilet is unbelievably bad, how you expect to run a business like this is incredible. The people who own it I believe have 3 pubs , apparently the other 2 they have ruined the only one that trades fairly well is the Royal Exchange and I believe that's because of Hartpury college. Looking at this place you can see how they go bust with management like this. Such a shame!!!

As soon we entered the mood was hostile. A man (probably manager/owner) has attempted to serve us but when we asked for a menu he just walked away. We saw him running around for a good 15 min when we decided to ask another customer for the menu. Than when finally we got served by an innocent barista the same man start ordering him in front of us number of time not to serve us but to stock the fridge. By the way at this point everyone who came after us has been served. The poor guy kept saying im just serving them im almost there and it was quite clear he isnt done with us yet he told the boy 2 more times to not serve us. By the hostile vibe and the act he put on I can only assume that he noticed we have an accent and so his behaviour also become very unfriendly. We were not welcomed at all. Then they brought out that sorry excuse for food. I ordered onion rings that clearly has been fried in dirty oil as it tasted like fish. My friend meal was also chewie and cold. Will not be returning at all! Highly NOT recommend it.

Lovely riverside pub spoilt by bad service. Went to the pub today and ordered food with two other friends, we all ordered separately. 2 orders came out on time then the third order didn’t come out at all. We had finished eating, when my friend with the third order went to the bar to chase up the order they were rather rudely told “the order was brought out 3 times and we couldn’t see you” this was a blatant lie as if you have already ordered and paid for food you will be looking out for someone bringing it to you! They were then told the order would have to be re-made. A rather rude waitress then came out again to reinforce the lie that they had tried to find my friend to serve the food and that the table number on the initial order was wrong (as if it was my friends fault?!). She then offered some further drinks while waiting which still did not arrive until the late food order which was another half hour. No apology and rude staff which lie. Absolutely disgusting service and not cheap! The pub has been there long enough they should know how to deal with busy times. Bad management and rude staff, avoid and save your time and money!!!

This was by far the best Sunday roast I have had for years. And in fact, all five of us in our party all said it was absolutely fantastic 4 of us had lamb and one had pork. All of us loved it. The portion size was huge and the chef accommodated one person in our group with a lactose intolerance amazingly. When we asked for more gravy, we didn’t get a tiny little jug like some places do…. it was a massive boatload of gravy. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and not soggy or over cooked. Highly recommend this place! Seriously we were so impressed and are talking about it even two days after the event. Keep up the great work well done.

The atmosphere in the pub was really good and friendly, staff were polite (although there didn't seem many of them) and efficient, doing a great job. I chose the steak pie, whilst my wife and our friends went for the chicken. All were delicious and had a real homemade presentation about them. These were proper pies with a whole pastry jacket, not just a pastry top! I had chips, peas and a pot of gravy, although I think I could have had a couple of types of mash, a good choice as these were real chips, not just frozen fries like most places. Accompanied with a nice pint of IPA, all in all a nice meal in a nice pub.

Booked a table of three in the dining room for Sunday lunch. When we sat at our table heard the table next to us ask how long the food would be as they’d waited 35 minutes already. We ordered immediately, just in case we’d have a long wait. Sure enough at 40 minutes we asked where our food was and were told 5 minutes. The table next to us we’re still waiting 45 minutes after ordering. If we’d been told there was such a long wait it it wouldn’t have been so bad! When the food arrived it was served, on what was, basically, tin camping plates. All three meals were absolutely swimming in gravy, two of us prefer just a little gravy, maybe a jug of gravy would be a better idea. I had pork, which was nearly all fat. My father and husband said the lamb was very tasty. We decided to go home and get something to eat to satisfy our appetites. When we went to pay the bill the lady behind the bar asked how our meal was and then walked away before hearing our response. Needless to say we will not be visiting again!

How disappointing, we came here expecting a really nice Sunday lunch, we arrived just before 12 noon to ensure that we could get an outside table, as we had heard this this place gets very busy. I had the Roast Beef dinner, everything was Cold, including the Gravy & some of the beef was actually chilled, so obviously nothing was freshly cooked. My other half is no so keen on Sunday lunch out, so she had the 'Cod'& Chips. The Chips were fried to a pulp, at least they were hot I suppose. The fish did not taste like cod & this had also been fried to an inch of its life. We should have sent the meals back, but as I had already paid for them didn't see much point.pointed out the issues when waiter came to collect the plate & he said he would let the kitchen staff know. Didn't see he him again after that. We did not have a Desert for 3 reasons. 1. Did not want to line their pockets any further. 2. Nothing on the menu appealed to us, nothing classic like Sticky Toffee pudding or Apple pie etc. 3. Didn't know what state it would have arrived in & likely to be not nice. So after all that, needless to say, we will not be back. Such a shame as a great location.

Early evening social visit with four friends, of which two had visited previous. Staff were friendly, service to the outside tables was efficient, it was the food that let the experience down. I had selected the vegetarian curry, with a side of chips. The curry was nice, but not at all generous for the price. The chunky chips side came as a generous portion, but were overcooked, and had been over salted before they left the kitchen. Luckily one of our party liked his chips like that so they didn't go to waste. The burger meal recipient said he wouldn't order it again, as he said his fries weren't as nice as the chunky chips !

Beautiful pub in a beautiful location, such a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Go for a pint by the river with family and friends and you’ll have a wonderful time. However, I wouldn’t return for food. I had the honey sesame chicken with chips and ‘slaw and you could smell the oil was old and the food was over fried and it was very much the same for my husbands scampi and chips

Stayed overnight at the Premier Inn on a meal deal, which normally includes a full breakfast. Restaurant closed no official reason given. Whitbread really know how to upset both staff and customers. Closing a large number of Beefeater restaurants will deter many regular Premier Inn. customers. Only advice we can offer is Better get a Travel Lodge.

Booked a table for 8 well in advance. Were asked to pre-order because of the table size. Arrived on Friday night in plenty of time for the booking and were rushed to the table with the manager asking if she could start serving starters. We asked if we could order drinks first because we were not in a rush having all travelled 100+ miles and had arrived before the booked time. The manager said that they had another large table booked (clearly taking priority) and encouraged us to start eating!! Starters arrived which were good. Then mains arrived very quickly afterwards, including two plain cod dishes which had not been ordered and weren’t on the menu. The manager returned to the kitchen to be told by the chefs that they were a replacement for fish stew which had not been delivered by the suppliers (so not made on premises). She admitted that she did not know fish stew was unavailable, bizarre given she is the manager and what she said later!! Neither of the two people who had ordered the now unavailable fish stew wanted a piece of cod and had to re-order whilst the remaining six started eating the main courses. Surely, we should have been told when we all sat down that two choices were unavailable and given the opportunity to order another main course at the start of the meal so that all mains arrived together?? We assumed (foolishly) that the two replacement main courses (steak and risotto) would be given priority because the other six main courses had been served. Twenty-five minutes later nothing had arrived and the manager had avoided any form of contact and issued no apology, in fact was chatting happily in the kitchen. One of our party entered the kitchen to cancel the order because the rest of the table had now finished. The manager told him to be patient because it takes at least 25 minutes to cook a steak, which was definitely disputed - more like 4 minutes! Risotto takes several hours to prepare so was presumably ready and bubbling away in a pan!!!! We asked the manager why we had not been contacted about supply problems prior to our arrival or at least asked to re-select when we first arrived, she then said that she had tried to contact us which was a major contradiction (in view of her previous comments) and definitely not the case. Given the nods of support from other diners this was pointed out to her by one of our party who was then asked to leave. The rest of us followed suit although agreed to pay for drinks, not the food (which was indifferent at best). The restaurant lost several hundred pounds because of this incident which could have been avoided with a more proactive management stance. On a more positive note, we all went to No5 restaurant on the Saturday night had a wonderful time and enjoyed some exquisite food. Top Tip spend your money at No 5 a couple of doors down North Street.

How the heck can they say that it's the "Home of the roast". I think Britons were enjoying roast lunches long before Toby existed. Been here many times and would describe the food as passable but not great. Visited late in the afternoon. Was difficult to get served - no-one at the food counter and required 3 requests by waiting staff for someone to come and carve the meat. The food was barely warm and a strange taste pervaded all the items which left me feeling nauseous. Potatoes were leathery and extremely difficult to cut. Maybe this was something to do with going later in the day?

Character pub well supported by locals with cosy fire burning in typical old English pub surroundings. We felt very welcome as we looked forward to our Sunday lunch. Apparently they have only been serving Sunday lunch for a few week and for sure they have it right. Tender pink roast beef served with parsnips, carrots, cabbage, roast potatoes and a good sized Yorkshire pudding. A further side dish to share with cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and swede. All very tasty. It’s not a huge pub, a number of folk were disappointed and had to return later with a booking, but well worth it. Surely one of the best Sunday Roasts in Tewkesbury.
