The best restaurants serving British food in South East

The grounds are stunning. The manor house impressive. Staff fantastic. The Manor - restaurant was great service but VERY expensive. The mains are £28 - £32 each and does not include the potatos or veg. The mains are tiny portions. The potatos £6 for a side dish

Food was sublime and excellent service. The outdoors was a great setting to eat and drink. Very good varied menu with plenty of choice

Popped in for a quick pint ended up having a venison main, a match for any other offering winchester has, truly superb…..

My husband and myself came for lunch on a Friday in August whilst on holiday in the local area. Large pub with gardens near a fairly busy road. Much quieter than expected and we had a good choice of seats in the garden in the sunshine. Was served drinks quickly at the bar by a helpful staff member. Given menus and ordered food. Food came out quickly and was very hot. I had a veggie burger & my husband fish & chips. Tasted great! Definitely no complaints from us. Would recommend.

Great food ,great service and at a good price ,dog had good service too ,they couldn't do enough ,we go there regularly and have never been disappointed .

Expensive for what you get £17 for lasagna just a dish of the stuff which wasn't great no salad nothing else included with the meal unless you want to pay nearly £5 for it,did have garlic bread which was £7 😡

Situation was good for walking and also the train. The pitches were nice and flat and the staff friendly and helpful. The pub is a proper pub and the food menu was very good. The pub service was quick and friendly. I had a beef stew which was superb.

Amazing Venue, Great staff and locals the DJ was also very good NYE 2024/25 😉

Understaffed argumentative and rude... very unwelcoming upon arrival - I was told before the shift had even started by a short cross bespectacled woman that most of the tables were booked (which was odd as there were only 2 staff members on shift for bar and restaurant), and the larger ones were being saved 'in case more people come'. After my meal I eventually managed to catch the eye of one of them hoping to order more wine and dessert but was blatantly ignored. In the end I gave up and had to go and get one of them to take my payment. Upon remarking that they were massively understaffed and I would have ordered more food and wine if I hadn't been ignored, I was told by the same cross woman who told me the tables were booked that 'these are all walk-ins, and I hadn't been ignored, even though she could neither corroborate or deny this as she had not herself witnessed the incident? Heaven knows what they would have done if the imaginary people they were saving the tables for had turned up?! Treating real and present customers like 2nd class citizens in favour of imaginary ones doesn't seem like a good business model to me... Understaffing has cost this business money today. Avoid.

Beautifully refurbished and lots of space just needs more customers

Food was over priced especially for a Full English breakfast = 1 egg, 1 sausage, 1 slice of bacon, a spoonful of mushrooms 9didnttaste cooked) and 2 tablespoons of baked beans, half a grilled tomato, 1 piece of toast - sent food back as was cold after waiting 30 mins and the pub wasnt even busy,. I commented that the plate was also cold and why did they butter the toast, which frankly looked like it hadnt even been toasted, you NEVER sent out buttered toast and you NEVER send HOT food on a COLD plate, sent it back and wasnt overly impressed with next plate, again cold plate, but margarine (not even butter) came out in a small pot - why didnt they do that in the first place. Very disappointed wont be going back there again.

Firstly, the host was very reluctant to seat me at a table and would have preferred me to sit at the high bar - I'm in my 70s and there were plenty of gree tables. My scrambled eggs arrived very promptly but as others have said, the toast was very hard and as the eggs were on top, I found it very difficult to butter. However, there was so much pepper on top of the eggs most of it was inedible. No one came near to check all was OK and I really regret I didn't say anything but it was 6.30am and I was very tired.

Honestly cannot believe how overpriced this place is. Drinks are mega mega expensive, and the food is so pricey…and is terrible! Honestly don’t bother, plenty of other much nicer eateries on the High Street for much less money. £13.50 for the shabbiest nachos, and £5 for literally 4 cocktail sausages. Our order was incorrect and the manager was extremely condescending when explaining what had happened.

We went on a Sunday for lunch, but unfortunately you can't get the breakfast menu all day like you used to. There is now a far more limited choice. In the end we had a cheese toastie priced at £9. That was all that was on the plate and we felt it was very overpriced. The staff seemed uninterested in serving us at the counter. Tables were left piled with plates and in the hour we were there we did not see a single table cleaned properly. This has always been a regular place to meet up with friends, but we will think long and hard before we return.

Just about 5 stars. We were a group of 13. Soup and mushroom starters excellent. Lasagne. fish pie and fish and chips excellent Chili con carne reportedly ok. Puddings very good,Service friendly and efficient, Comfortable place. Very good value.Wheelchair accessiible but WC just about ok for disabled customers.
