Absolutely 10/10 service if I could give more stars I would! We’ve came from a long and tiring 36 hour journey with 3 dogs and a cat and luckily found a hotel that would take us all on a Friday night and be as amazing as it was! Especially with pets this hotel is perfect, the staff are so friendly and helpful and we didn't hear any noise from the pub downstairs! The rooms are nice and big with easy opening windows, a kettle and complimentary orange juice! Extremely professional and homely at the same time would definitely recommend!

Disappointing experience from the beginning. Went for Sunday Lunch, wanted to order coffee while waiting only to be informed instant only. No menu. Told gammon or beef. Food came quickly and we were informed it had been sitting on side ready. 😱 Lunches were luke warm. Service non existent despite restaurant being empty apart from us. Left after main course as no staff appeared to check on us. Under new management 🤔 really.!

In July, we stayed for 1 night. After checking out & arriving home 70 miles away in Surrey, I later realising that I'd left A belonging in the hotel room..A PHONE CHARGER & POSSIBLY A NECKLACE(BUT NOT CERTAIN OF THAT). I phoned & the lady told me yes we have found THE CHARGER. I asked if I could pick this up in August, when I'd make a special trip there. INDEED I CAME DOWN in AUG & DID BEFOREHAND TRY TO CONFIRM BY PHONE BUT THE HOTEL LANDLINE + MOBILE WEREN'T WORKING. I TRIED AN EMAIL, IT GOT REJECTED, THEN I SENT A MESSAGE VIA THE WEBSITE, BUT GOT NO REPLY. AS I'D ALREADY SAID I'D BE DOWN IN AUG, I THOUGHT IT'D BE OK. However, when I went there, although I was told that the lady recalled my phone call, my possessions weren't there for me as promised. Her husband, who was on duty said that more staff would be in in 2 days & that they'll know where my stuff is & that he would call me. I never received that call or any email. If I was lied to, why? And, it caused me a 140 mile very disappointing round trip. I AM GLAD THOUGH TO RECEIVE A REPLY HERE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S PROMPTED BY MY REVIEW.

Early Saturday evening , had a very nice meal but far to big a portion , sadly we left early , there were very loud people at the bar swearing and making the atmosphere very unpleasant . The bar person did nothing to retrain there conversations , in fact she didn't seem that interested in her job either , such a shame . We weren't the only ones to leave early .

The Bugle has been improved hugely since the new team took over. They have revamped the menu and the rooms, and it is now a friendly, comfortable place to stay in this lovely village in Hampshire, which also now has a pub in the centre that measures up. Rooms are clean and very comfortable, the bathrooms are first rate and clearly a lot of effort has been put in to making the stay experience a very pleasant one. Breakfast is all anyone might wish and more, in my opinion.

Friendly and helpful bar staff and nice surroundings set this establishment up well. Cannot comment on food as we did not eat. However bar prices seemed extortionate. A bottle of berry cider and a small bottle of 0% lager was almost £12.!! Not the sort of prices to attract customers I’m afraid.

The Bugle is a very old building which is sympathetically furnished and decorated. It’s always clean and staff are helpful and friendly. We wanted a light lunch, not a full meal. We decided on baguettes, my friend had chicken, roasted peppers, onion , I had steak, onion, blue cheese. They both came with salad and we ordered a basket of chips each too. The baguette was freshly baked, overflowing with the filling and very very tasty. Lovely fresh salad and beautifully cooked thick, proper crispy, fluffy chips. Yummy to say the least. Stuart, was very informative about his beers etc, knew his stuff and we had quite a chat about different things. Paddy the chef yesterday, was lovely too and we thanked him for the fabulous food we’d eaten. My friend couldn’t finish hers so Stuart took it away and it came back in a lovely little box for her to take home. I’ve been before Christmas and had the most delicious lasagne there too. We watched other meals being served,( cos we’re nosey). And they all looked delicious. Looking forward to the next time. Keep up the good work Stuart. June Ashley x

Went for Sunday Dinner, but it's clearly a locals pub for drinking. It's disappointing as we so want the new owners to do well. The first time we came for Sunday dinner, we were sat to the left as you enter. The locals/drinkers were sat to the right near the bar. Today Sunday 29/10, we were sat in the bar area, near the locals. There was lively discussion going on (3.30 pm), plus vaping. This affected our 90 year old friends asthma. We couldn't hear amongst ourselves talk as this lady near us was talking across to others so loud. Plus it was cool in there. FOOD - the last Sunday dinner that we had (about 6 weeks ago), was better than this Sunday dinner. I am sorry, we wish you well. We won't be back, unless it's for a boozy night with some music. We wish you well

We went here on a Saturday night to have food and drinks. Entered the pub, which was as empty as the Marie Celeste. We were served by a female who was miserable and dreary in her attitude. She spoke in short or one word monotone answers and had all the charisma of an empty cardboard box. A male member of staff was wondering around aimlessly. He looked just as miserable and the two of them spent most of the time standing by the door to the pub smoking. The atmosphere they created was dismal - no wonder they had hardly any customers. When we asked if they were serving food the female stated they had no chef - on a Saturday night? ! This pub restaurant always used to be very busy, especially at weekends - maybe if the two staff were more welcoming and engaging the customers may come back.

Having seen all the recent Social media coverage of the venue we thought we would try it out. Initial first impressions were positive and the staff were polite and friendly. We ordered the Roast beef. The beef was tough , not easy to cut and very chewy In fact virtually inedible. The food was cold! . Whilst the vegetables were fresh the Roast potatoes were not crispy and the parsnips were on the burnt side. Considering the quality of the food it offered little value for money.

This is probably the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in this country.Looks a lovely characteristic property until you hit the slum inside. I Cannot believe my company paid £72 for a room without breakfast in a pub anyway, but when I got in my room I was lost for words. The lack of facilities was not the problem nor was the fact of the noise from the delivers to the Co-op next door at 5am, it was the amount of filth I found within the room. The towels had stains on them and smelt horrendous, the bathroom was appalling with dirt and grime around the shower tray and sink taps. I found blood on the curtains when they were closed at night and I didn’t attempt to unpack my clothes as the wardrobe look like it was about to collapse. I highly recommend you not to stay at this property, unless you have the desire to spend your stay cleaning the room so you feel comfortable in it.

Navigating the country lanes back to base after a long day out sightseeing we found ourselves in the pretty village of Titchfield and because it was time to eat parked up and had a look around. From where we parked we could see we had the choice of two pubs advertising food so liking to live dangerously tossed a coin from which The Bugle won. On entering we appreciated the olde world charm of the place but it did appear that it had seen better days but never mind perhaps the chef was bang up to date. The food offerings were all displayed on various chalk boards around the fireplace in the bar area which led us to sit at a table in the bar to choose rather than getting seated in the restaurant area. (Not sure whether a card menu was available at that end of the pub). We both chose the tasty sounding Gammon served not only with egg but with fried mango a fruit we eat often - but never tried fried. On arrival it was certainly a tasty looking plate full. A very nice Gammon along with plenty of home cooked chips. The mango was excellent, we’ll be trying it cooked that way back home. However the plate did lack one other advertised ingredient that also sold us the dish - Portobello mushrooms. When they did the table check we pointed this out and the server ran off to the kitchen to - as we thought get us some. But on return just said they didn’t get delivered today and I’ve smacked the chefs hand. So we finished our meal as delivered and it was very enjoyable. On leaving we paid our bill which showed no consideration for the shortfall only comments that the mushroom shortage was rather a bit of a joke. But never mind next time passing through Titchfield we’ll try ‘Heads’ instead of ‘Tails’.

If you want a corporate experience with plastic smiles and a perfect, sterile room please try somewhere else. If you want staff who treat you like friends, a room with no matching furniture, not a straight wall or flat floor ( because its a building constructed in the 1500s ) with a sign outside the door saying 'dogs welcome, humans by appointment' a truly lovely atmosphere and probably the best full English breakfast you'll ever eat, stay at the Bugle. It's got to be good, when Martin (the barman and kingpin of the establishment) had to attack the ivy on the car park wall he trimmed it into the shape of an elephant ! Going back in the winter when the fires will be lit and I've a feeling it'll be perfect for the weather. We may encounter Mr Pickwick bumbling around the corridors.

Stayed here for 1 night with friends to go to a 40th birthday party. We booked a single, twin and family room and at the time of booking we weren't told that the single had to share a bathroom and toiletThe toilet was just across the corridor where you had to squeeze in between the door and the small wash hand basin to get in, anyone slightly on the large side would find it very difficult, the lock on the door was also rather loose, however the shower was along a passage through a door and along again, bit of a trek from the single roomsThe shower head was very tarnished on the outside and looked rather scaled, I couldn't work out how to use it so decided to use the shower in my friend's room instead - the shared shower is in urgent need of replacingBit of an odd request regarding the keys when you went out as they didn't like you taking the keys off site - if you were likely to be back after the bar had closed you could leave your key (which was attached to a big wooden spactullar) in a pot at the top of the stairs and come back in the side door with a keypad for accessThe door leading down to the bar is alarmed at night and with a sign on saying not to use this staircase until the sign was removed around 8:30am I feel at £75 for a single room with no private bathroom, a trek to the shared shower and if you wanted breakfast it was an additional £9.95 was rather expensive and certainly not value for moneyThe two gentlemen behind the bar and who also did the "checking in", (I assume they are the proprietors) were friendly enough but they don't appear to have very much experience in the pub/hotel tradeUnfortunately I will not be staying at The Bugle again

I visited with a few friends as part of a small stag group on Saturday afternoon (sober, no learner plates or mankini's!!). Great location and outside terrace, however unfortunately that's where the positives end. The service was frankly appalling, the gentleman behind the bar could not have made us less welcome, ordering anything was clearly a huge inconvenience to him. The food came out in very mixed order with the crab salad taking a full 50 minutes, a few of the dishes were acceptable pub fayre, the remainder were poor, with a £13 burger being the worst of the lot. If you are going to run a pub in a popular tourist destination, perhaps best to come to terms with the fact that tourists will want to visit.

A lovely business on the outside, in a nice village. Turned up in the morning looking for some breakfast and was welcomed inside by a man who was watering the plants saying "i'm just staying here but im watering the plants for them".This was the start of an interesting breakfast. We sat down and a scruffy man came over and rubbed his hands together and said "3 breakfasts £10 each, big breakfasts". It was like he was doing some sort of deal. Another scruffy man came over and took our drinks orders and then got them all wrong and then proceded to drink them at the bar while making new ones. Our breakfasts came on cold plates, uncooked eggs, cold bacon and overall a really small breakfast. We complained and they couldnt even find a manager. The "staff" were clearly all alcoholics and were shaking from not having a drink. We left without paying.Worst dining experience ever.

Nice choice of veg and a proper gravy. Friendly atmosphere in a good local steeped in village history. We fully intend to visit again.

The incompetence of the British hospitality industry knows little bounds. This is the legacy of the brewery system which pays poor wages and doesn't care who it gets to run its pubs. Rarely do you get anyone who knows what they are doing. The White Lion in Fareham is a case in point. Complain- and it's you that's wrong. This hapless joint, which is the source of many jokes in its neighbour the Wheatsheaf is dead as disco- it's changed- there used to be hooligans by the bucketload, as found in most British pubs- now it has some decent beers and is clean and hoprefully dog-free! Sadly, they were so eager to impress the night we were there that they threw laminated shelving on the open fire and filled the place full of poisonous gases- we had to bail out...back to the Wheatsheaf of course...

A characteristic pub with huge potential, unfortunately the food was not good, the best part of the evening was the tall young waiter who worked tirelessly with skill, charm and dedication to the job. This place could be the best in Titchfield if more care and effort was concentrated in the kitchen.

I sat many evenings by myself in foreign countries and restaurants suggested by taxi drivers or TripAdvisor. I was pleasantly surprise by this pub, the staff are so friendly as are the other customers considering I'm clearly from out of town. The staff go out of there way to help you; my fish and chip meal I can't recommend this enoughVery welcoming. Well done guys.

Very disappointed with lunch on 18 October 15, lamb was scraps and very fatty, frozen mixed veg and frozen roast potatoes, prawn cocktail starter was V basic with browning salad leaves and no roll served. We cut our meal short as was not pleasant. Drinks expensive especially soft drinks a pint of orange and lemonade with cheap bottle lemonade costing over £3. Staff were pleasant and atmosphere was ok, just not the meal we were expecting after wanting to support this local business.

Really tacky looking interior. I didn't even want to order a meal after paying too much for a drink and receiving terrible service. Just not the sort of ambience you want to eat or stay in.

Very inexpensive and good value for money. I enjoyed a roast on Sunday that was very nice. The resturant was in the bar where we could watch the entertainment on Saturday night.

it's a shame that the pub has not changed, i thought let's try it after new owners and a fresh lick of paint. Its a shame the same old faces are sat at the bar after a day at work in their work clothes, using foul language. The staff behind the bar were friendly and we though ok, let's try the menu, there are no menu's you have to stand and decide what you want from a array of chalk boards. We sat at the window, the table was so sticky you could but your arms or hand on it. No knives and forks, no waitress service, the kitchen( cooks) bring the food, bit a surprise being served you someone in chef whites, nobody asked us, if we were enjoying our food, or offered us wine. The food seems to have been cooked by amateur chef, we had chicken snitzel, it comes with asparagus -oh dear really bad, full of water and over cooked, chips were obviously from the day before, the chicken was ok. I really want this pub/restaurant to succeed as we need a great local pub, with a little more of TLC and commitment it could be better. Please see this as feedback and criticism, I believe you could do loads better if you invest a little more time to detail.

This was my first visit to the pub since it reopened in January. First impression was that it had been brightened up (amazing what a lick of paint can do!) without losing it's olde world charm. We were greeted by friendly smiling staff who made us feel very welcome. There is no menu, all the food is displayed on boards on the wall. I had the chicken schnitzel which was nicely presented, and well cooked. There was a good variety of food available, all at reasonable prices. The staff were very chatty and helpful which helped create a warm friendly atmosphere. The new owners are obviously working very hard to make this charming pub a success, and it has definitely improved in all aspects since they took over. If they keep up the good work I'm sure they will achieve that success. I will certainly be back!

I don't know why this pub keeps failing but sadly it does. The menu is uninspiring, the tables are sticky, the chairs are ripped and in need of replacement and the lager is disgusting. The Bugle is the largest pub in the village and should be the busiest and the best but it's not. It's uninviting to locals, confused as to what it wants to be and I think until someone who wants to put the effort in starts to run this place, then it's never going to be a success.Oh and £1.50 for a half pint of lime & soda? Horrific.

We stopped here for a late lunch as I have a gourmet society card and get 2 for 1 on meals. I called ahead as per the terms and conditions and the lady said no problem. The menu is limited to mainly sandwiches and jacket potatoes, there is a board with a selection of specials (main meals) quite a good choice. The lady said the menu was limited at the moment as they are working on a new menu.We only wanted a light lunch and as we don't eat wheat, went for a jacket potato each. As we mentioned we don't eat wheat to the waitress, the chef came out to make sure the salad dressing would be ok, this was a nice touch and thoughtful. The jackets were very good, big (too big for me, but better to have too much than not enough) the jackets arrived on a lovely salad, all seemed very fresh and very tasty. The place could do with a refurb, it did seem a bit grubby but for a quick lunch if we fancy another jacket spud, we would def come back.

12 of us came here on Friday evening as our preferred local was packed. The Bugle had just 3 or 4 customers when we arrived. The bar attendant was charmless and was communicating with one of the existing customers whilst serving us. The draft beer was awful, to be fair this was replaced without argument and we chose bottled instead. Such a shame that this historic village pub is a soulless, gloomy place which is probably empty much of the time. It is competing with 2 other village pubs so there is a choice.

Not a food pub that I would openly recommend. I was not impressed with the menu, and the food took a long time to arrive.Set in the middle of the village square, this is an old pub that probably is in need of some updating. Parking is a major problem.

I stopped off in the village with my wife to get some food and stumbled across this real gem of a pub. We were greeted by the bar staff and enquired about their ales and was offered a sample which was nice. We were shown to a table and in a short space of time a good meal was delivered to our table. We will most certainly return again after we heard from one of the regulars that the Sunday roasts are well worth a try.

Today- October 21st. My husband had the ham and chicken pie which was great; I ordered the Salmon with butter dill sauce, with mash and veg. The waitress was nice and helpful. I was very hungry so really tucked in ... everything was really good- the sauce was lovely...... then I noticed that my salmon was raw and cold in the middle!!The waitress apologised profusely and took it away; she brought it back, and brought me more sauce. She checked to see if we were OK and I said, "well, you will need to do something, surely you don't expect us to pay the full price?" It was at that point that she argued saying that she had tried her best, that I had eaten most of it, etc....etc...and then said she could call the manager down. Then she asked me if I wanted her to call the manager. So I said no forget it. Sure enough we were charged the full price; she seemed to want us out of there quickly and came over for the money even before my husband finished his wine!! We have been there quite a few times before, but I think it is now under new management. My Husband had picked up the Christmas Menu and was going to recommend it for his business Christmas Lunch- like he did last year. Well, we are not coming back- and will not be recommending this place to anyone for anytime! I felt so uncomfortable that I am writing this review.Am I wrong? Should I accept that? Maybe a complimentary coffee would have been nice.

Pre-booked requesting a table with some elbow room (should have booked for 4!) arrived 10/15 minutes early and ordered drinks (ouch) Bar person couldn't advise on the the beers on sale and no sample was offered for the real ales (unlike many other establishments). We were shown to a grotty little table that was behind the central pillar between the two entrances into eating area of the hotel. Both chairs encroached into the walk ways and when we asked to move we were told this was a table for two and nothing else was available. We were very uncomfortable sitting there so we moved into the main bar area where some people were eating. The seating around this table were hard benches with thin small cushions, after another 20 minutes of feeling unwelcome sat in a draught we finished our drinks and left. At no stage were we offered a menu nor any description of what food was available or where to find the information. Leaning on the table my skin was sticking to the table suggesting lack of cleanliness and the condiments on the table looked as though they had been there since the place was a coach house back in Dick Turpin's day. Its a real pity the welcome was non existent and the place was so shabby as it is ideally placed in the village and would bring more trade to the place. Couldn't say what the food was like as we were not prepared to take a chance and went somewhere else for lunch as we felt so uncomfortable.

This old fashioned village hotel in the central square is full of character and fits well in its surroundings. On entering the bar lounge the first thing we noticed was the lack of clientele for 1pm on a Sunday afternoon, there was one person sat at the Bar and two tables occupied with diners in the small dining area. I try yo justify this with my friend by saying it is off the beaten track and unless you knew the village was here you wouldn't stop as the main A27 bypasses the village now. Service at the bar was being conducted by tw members of staff who didn't look old enough to be in a pub let alone serve behind a bar, one of them showed us to a table we were told we could sit anywhere either in the bar area or the restaurant area, we chose the restaurant area. He then proceeded to give us the normal menu, the bar snack menu, told us about the specials board and that there were two roasts beef and pork. I chose the roast pork my friend the roast beef, both served after a short wait plenty of meat on both with roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding. A separate bowl of broccoli and carrots mixed with leeks was served and my roast pork had a lovely large piece of crackling with it, Once we finished our meals we were left sat there for a rather long time with empty plates in front of us as were other diners in the restaurant before anyone came and cleared and asked if we wanted puddings, this all the while whilst the owner was sat chatting with two of the patrons she obviously knew, then chef came out and sat with the same couple. Eventually bar girl came and cleared plates and asked us what we wanted suffice it to say pudding were nothing more than ordinary in fact when I went to the toilet they were obviously just reheated microwave puddings as could hear the ping ping!!So my overall experience was above average main meal, average pudding but service could be better.

I called in for a pint and a snack.. There was one person behind the bar and service was nothing to be proud of. Three weeks later I received a penalty charge notice for parking for 25 minutes. Judging from the fact that the barman never mentioned the need to register, coupled with the fact that there is no mention of the charge on the website. I assume that the charge is for revenue rather than deterrence. I shall certainly never visit a Hall and Woodhouse pub again.

Food is fine, service is very slow but friendly (the staff always comment they are under staffed but this is strangely always when I go). The owners state that they they do not accept cash (how can this still be allowed post Covid?) but if you try add to add a tip to your bill, the waiter/waitress tells a story that it needs to be cash or otherwise they have to share it with the kitchen staff etc. Incredible it may seem but this has happened three times to me. I only go there as my wife’s aunt likes the view.

Have driven past many times and decided that we must give this place a go. Wish we hadn't bothered! The menu is quite limited and what makes it even worse is that both of us have issues with peppers - capsicum and chilli . Only one thing on the menu that I liked and didn't have some form of pepper in it. On the upside hubby had a burger that he really enjoyed but apart from that, considering that the venue is overlooking the creek with an abundance of swans, the food is a complete let-down. Won't bother going back as there are plenty of other venues in the area with more extensive menu's that don't seem to be dependent on peppers!!

Popped in for a light bite. The staff were warm and welcoming. The vegetable soup was thick and comforting with the most delicious croutons. The bacon, brie & cranberry sandwich went down a treat.

Expensive for what is clearly budget supplied food for a standard breakfast. For £1.50 more you could have their top meal treble most items but too much to eat. I had finished my breakfast and went to the toilet leaving my cup of tea to be finished on my return and my coat still on the chair. On my return the table had been cleared by a rude waitress. To be fair, the proprietor did offer me a replacement tea but it shouldn't have happened in the first place being so eager to clear an obviously occupied table. It is a typical roadside caff but expensive and rude service.
