We went out for a last minute dinner decision and were more than satisfied. The staff were attentive throughout our experience especially Yasmin who always had a huge smile on her face. I had the fish and chips and it was superb and my husband ordered the beef brisket tacos which he enjoyed.

Last minute decision to pop in for dinner and few drinks. Promptly greeted at the door and taken to our table. Staff very attentive and took our order quickly. Dinner and drinks all served in good time. Food was delicious and all fresh ingredients. DJ was an added bonus and the new building is great. Will definitely be returning.

Definitely not the place to go for breakfast, £11 for 2 fresh orange juices, asked for no ice but came with ice, if you took the ice out it would only be half a glass! Ordered the full English breakfast, wasn’t asked if we wanted tea or coffee which comes with it. When the breakfast came I was very disappointed with the full English especially for the price. Very expensive for what you get. Service could be better. Would definitely not return.

This is a lovely venue with a great position, but it unfortunately ends there with everything else being average. We both had a roast with my wife going for the vegan option which was mediocre and seemed pretty unimaginative and with seemingly very little effort put into it. The Yorkshire puddings were overcooked and the sauce for the cauliflower cheese was so runny it didn’t coat the cauliflower and simply ran off. The whole meal including veg was under seasoned. No serving spoons for veg which came on an afternoon tea style situation(!?) and cheap old topside for beef, as opposed to, for example, top rump, more suitable for the price point being charged. This could be a great venue but woefully misses the mark.

This place is unbelievably over priced for bang average breakfast food. They need a serious reality check. The prices they are charging are what you expect to pay at top tier breakfast spots yet their food is average at best. Save yourself the disappointment and go for a decent breakfast at Josies or Mettricks they’re in different league to this place and they warrant the prices on their menu.

So disappointing! The venue and location is beautiful but has been let down by the food and service twice now. Our first time going since the refurb we came for dinner. Meal was nice, albeit a bit expensive for what it is but service was slow. We wanted desserts but by the time we flagged a member of staff down we were told it was too late for them. We took that as a one off and came back today. We came for breakfast as a family. Event though there is a kids lunch menu there isn’t a kids breakfast menu so our kids shared an adult breakfast. My breakfast then arrived with the sauce I had asked to be put on the side. I needed to return it and went a new plate came back the eggs were cold with minimal egg white on, appearing that they had washed the sauce off, used the same eggs and replated it. I therefore needed to return a s come time. We had asked for it to be remade but this never appeared and after time we needed to leave. They did apologise and took the cost off the bill, but it ruined the trip. £45 for a family breakfast when I didn’t end up eating. As I say, the location is beautiful so I’m hoping things will improve over time.

We tried the Boat House on a Sunday morning - the setting was really lovely, in nice weather it would be an idyllic place to spend time. However, we were disappointed getting breakfast there. We ordered beans on toast for the child that was with us, along with an adult meal and multiple drinks - initially this order was okayed by the waitress, but we subsequently told that the kitchen would not make beans on toast. I suppose a spoonful of beans for a kid was too much to ask. We ordered a (full size) replacement, which came, but the other meal did not turn up at all until we chased it - this then came around half an hour after the first. This was comped for us because of the delay, which was nice of them - but it all felt a bit ridiculous to make us order a full new meal for a kid, and then just not bring the other meal.

Ideally I would like to score a 3.5 for some areas, but overall a positive experience. I work in hospitality, so perhaps I'm a little too observant! Three of us dined here on a Friday night, without booking, so we were grateful to get a table and service was good throughout the evening. We ordered drinks before dinner: 2 beers and a G&T amounted to £32, which was surprising, but the G&T was poured as a double by default. It would have been nice to be given a choice. We enjoyed a shared taco starter as an appetiser, followed by various mains. All three of us eat out regularly and were surprised at the small size of the fish. I had the red mullet, which is a go-to choice for me. It was cooked well and very nice, but left me feeling still hungry. I was almost tempted to order another starter. It also didn't look much like the website's menu header page, which showcases the dish. However, prices for our mains were reasonable at £18 - £22. We also ordered 2 bottles of wine for the table, which were fairly expensive, but good quality. It oddly worked out cheaper if buying by the glass! Note to Somelier: get the calculator out for the 175ml Pinot Noir price 😉 Service charge was automatically added to the bill, which made the bar drinks very expensive and a mid-priced bottle of wine well over £50. The service charge was listed on the bill as discretionary, but you know how awkward us Brits feel about things like that! Allowing guests to make a decision on service charge also offers the opportunity to show real appreciation and a true reflection on service, quality and price. Again, it was a fairly good experience overall, but we left with mixed feelings and a lack of enthusiasm about an early revisit. Thanks for reading 🙂

This visit was my first one to the newly revamped cafe. I was not impressed at all. I eat out at least twice a week in a different establishment each time all around Hampshire and I have to say this venue I will not be visiting again I chose fish and chips. The fish was fresh, the portion of peas and sauce was tiny, there was a half burnt lemon and 10 chunky chips all served on a wooden board. This cost £18 as the discretionary service charge was added onto the end bill. I had a cappuccino @ £3.90. I ended up giving them £25. I was in a party of 9. We each paid for ourselves either by cash or card. The discretionary service charge was added onto the end total food and beverage cost and had to be paid. Therefore in my view it is not discretionary!! In my opinion it was a poor experience and would advise prospective cafe goers to check their bills and the website menus and prices before they visit.

It looks really nice. However that was about where the postive points ended. Arrived looking for some food and they said they were fully booked for food - totally fair enough. They said we could have drinks and food from the cafe side. We asked if we could order any snacks from the men in and were told no, only what they had left in the counter. Very expensive bacon sandwich with awful bacon in. Then we saw other people eating pizza in the cafe so we asked again and were told the same. After another table ordered food in the cafe side we asked a diff staff member, and were told there was a 40 min wait for food, not that we were told we couldn’t order. We definitely were told that! Our drinks order was missing items which they did correct. The staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing and were really grumpy. Drinks were set down on tables without a single word or eye contact. All in all a very disappointing experience and very overpriced for what you get. A hot chocolate was £6.

What’s even more disappointing than my visit, was that I actually emailed the venue directly and gave them my feedback which was ignored… which just added insult to injury. I visited the boat house sunday 22nd September, I have been a few times in the past before the renovations and always had good food and service. While the venue looks fab, it was a shame the food wasn’t great and only ok at best and the services was poor…very poor. When I first arrived, I was ignored by the front of house for a good couple of minuets, there was no one ahead of me and even when he did look up to see me he had a job to acknowledge me and I initiated the welcome… which I’m sure what “front of houses” job is to do? I was seated at a lovely table, but the service was slow, which was a surprise as the venue was quiet and there was plenty of staff on, but they were busy chatting or on their phones. We had to ask to order drinks, ask to order food, ask for the desert menu, it just felt like we were an inconvenience. There was no “service” what so ever. We didn’t get the sugar for our drinks, some of our mains was forgotten, we didn’t get the condiments we asked for… When we asked again for tomato sauce we were presented with an old bottle that looked like it had been kicked round the kitchen… with very little sauce in it… but we’re told “that should do for what you have” we were even reluctant to use it, it looked that unappealing. Then when it came to getting the bill the service charge was on the bill 3 times. We did pay the service charge (just the 1) but in hindsight the service and experience was very poor and wasn’t worth leaving the tip. It was such a shame as I had arranged it for a girls lunch, but based on yesterday’s experience, I was left feeling embarrassed that I had chosen that venue and based on that visit I would not go back. And Being an ‘ideal collection’ member it’s put me off going to the other venues, especially after that visit and then no response to my feedback/complaint.

What an absolute farce! I cannot believe how much this place disappointed and how bad the food and general service was. If I could give zero stars for food and service I would. A two hour wait in total for initially 4 breakfast meals - but we never ever had 4 meals at any one time! When the food initially arrived after waiting 1hr 30mins it was stone cold and only two of the four dishes arrived. And the service was by the most miserable server I have ever seen. No hello, no "who's is the x dish? " - nothing, no pleasantries at all, just plonk it all on the table and walk off. After we complained they took the two cold dishes away and apologised, and said they would cook them all again, so we decided to wait. They also said all dishes would be complimentary - admittedly, a nice thing to do. 30 minutes later two dishes came out and surprise, surprise, they were cold again - probably the two they took away earlier! These were then taken away and the other two of the four dishes finally made it to the table, and these actually had some heat introduced to them, but alas no real taste or seasoning to make them anything to shout about. We spoke to other guests who had waited for over an hour - some also had complimentary food, but all complained of cold and/or very tasteless food. The manager said the chef was normally on top of his game and must be having an off day - more like the chef was having a day off and the cleaner was leading the kitchen! Terrible food, appallingly long wait, and incredibly poor customer service. I have visited the Chichester branch many times and that is very good; this new building is extremely nice, and I do feel for the majority of the front of house staff, but I will most probably never visit the Swanick site again, it was that poor!

Located to the east of River Hamble on A27 towards Southampton If you are not driving, the First Bus Portsmouth has X4 and X5, starting at The Hard, near Portsmouth Harbour Station, or the opposite direction from Southampton Railway St There is also Bursledon Station, but I wouldn't recommend it as the service at the station is infrequent On the day, the weather was really wet. On entering the restaurant, which on the day was exceedingly busy, we were shown to our seats overlooking the Hamble River and Marina Service was good, but possibly a bit frantic, After ordering our drinks, the waitress took our order pretty soon after I had red mullet with capers and tomatoes, with a rich sauce My colleague went for the burger option and was also impressed Unfortunately, the 3 desserts on the menu were not available, and so myself and my colleague and went for 2 scoops of ice cream each To finish our meal, I had a latte, and my colleague had an Americano Unfortunately, my latte was served in a glass more suitable for orange juice or coco cola , and I wasn't very impressed The food is interesting , beautifully presented, but price wise IMO slightly expensive if you are on a budget We paid £83 including a service charge I would definitely return to the restaurant in the future. It would be great sitting outside on a nice Spring or Summer's day

We were told to move table after being sat there for around 5 minutes due to them wanting to clean the table. We moved and got asked if we wanted a drink to which we did. Shortly after we kept getting asked by multiple members of staff if we wanted anymore which we found quite disturbing. There was construction work going on which we were made aware of but we're not made aware of the noise we were about to encounter. It was that noisy I could barely here myself speak. When leaving a kind waiter opened the door for me and wished me a good day. If it wasn't for the kind front of house team this would of had a lower rating.

6 of us ate at the restaurant recently and had a lovely meal. Service from the staff was very good and the food was delicious and quite reasonably priced. Some reviews have criticised prices - to be honest, £20 for a Red Snapper main course, or £19 for a large portion of mussels with fries, or £14 for a pizza is decent value. The relatively young front of house team are friendly and work hard to please. Having eaten there twice since its new opening in August, I thoroughly recommend the Boat House Swanwick.

We have been several times to the boathouse since it has had its revamp/facelift. The first time was just for drinks. We were asked by a waitress what drinks we would like. I chose an aperol spritz she asked me what it was as she didn’t know where it was on her pda and doesn’t know drinks. So I showed her where it was on her pda. The second time we went with friends for dinner and drinks. We all had some questions about what was included in different meals on the menu. The waitress said I don’t know to most questions when I asked what was included in the side salad she said you know just basic salad. When our food was brought to the table by a different waiter he said fish we said which one as we had ordered several fish dishes. He said I don’t know it’s just fish and I wasn’t told what it was. Then we had sauces ordered with the meals the waiter said sauce we again asked which sauce it was he said I wasn’t told and dumped it on the table. When we went for drinks night there was a dj which gave a nice atmosphere the second time they said due to the weather the dj had been cancelled which was a shame as it gave a very different vibe without the dj. We had a bottle of wine, several beers (none of which are mainstream brands), several cocktails. A starter each and main each the bill came to £375 without the added service charge. It felt like an expensive meal with not great service especially when the staff weren’t clued up on the menu or what they were serving. Dog Friendly! They have blankets if you get cold. Highly priced. Three bacon or sausage rolls and three cokes were over £30. Service was not very customer friendly. You have to pay for parking and it is not located next to the cafe (only parking for the marina). Overall lovely place but more for people visiting the marina and not hungry people in the area looking for a place for breakfast.

Drinks by the River Hamble at the newly refitted Boathouse at Swanwick marina. Was pretty busy but we only fancied drinks and sat outside on the deck with a view over the boats. Three cups of tea from my pot which was nice plus a decent oat milk hot chocolate. Good pit stop if out walking

Came here twice over the weekend with different friends. Sadly, the service was terrible compared to the “old boathouse cafe”. Staff were very friendly upon arrival and clearly wanting to make things work, but this was let down with the wait times of over 25 minutes for a simple avocado bagel and sausage bap. When the bap came the food was cold inside and my pregnant wife had to go into the venue to politely ask the staff whether the food was incoming or not. 25 minutes wouldn’t normally be a long time to wait but this was the takeaway area where it’d normally expect to be slightly quicker. We saw lots of people getting frustrated when arriving and asking to sit outside and being told to wait as the staff found a table. This became a rather amusing spectator sport given around 85% of the tables outside were empty. We appreciate staff have to manage flows of people, particularly as it may have been getting busier later on in the day. Salt Cafe in Porchester has a good system where when being given a table you’re politely told that it’s booked at X time and will be needed then. This doesn’t pose a problem, it manages expectations and shows customers that you still value their custom, even if this can only be accommodated in a short window. Further, we also thought that placing reserved signs on the tables would manage the misassumptions around whether tables are booked or not, which will also stop people taking seats themselves. The final experience we had this weekend was my friend and I wanting a very quick and simple 1/2 of cider for 20 minutes. He went to the bar but was abruptly told to take a seat as it was table service only. Then after a 10 minute wait outside nobody came to the table. We ended up walking off as the systems here don’t seem to be setup for a positive customer experience at this time. The staff cannot be faulted for being both friendly and polite on the whole. Customers are welcommed to the venue and staff were apologetic when delays were incurred; which they can do no more than that. Unfortunately we came away from the experience not wanting to return anytime soon and hope that in the passage of time these “teething errors” will be addressed. The venue has great potential as do the staff, but don’t go expecting a positive experience if you value more than friendly staff from a restaurant.

This was the first time I've been since they have renovated the place. Really lovely atmosphere. The sole was perfect and really good service. Price is more expensive now but really lovely food and surroundings. Would be amazing on a sunny summer evening sat outside.

Lovely place to eat outside. However service was awful. We ordered veg breakfasts and got ordinary meat ones with bacon, sausage and black pudding. They took it away at our request and eventually brought veggie ones. Food was OK but nothing special with white sliced bread toast! Ever heard of highly processed food? I wonder. I asked for butter as there was none and would it be possible to have brown toast. Again a long wait and it eventually came. Asked for the bill where a hefty 12% service charge was automatically included. Cheeky after the service we'd received! Won't be returning, I'm afraid.

Berth holder are not even considered. Couldn’t even get a table on Monday evening when it was half empty. Staff all young undertrained and spend more time chatting. Lovely french chap but the rest are clueless.. real shame as when you do get a table the food is good .. should be a minimum of 60% allocated to birth holder we spend 10s of thousands to birth here and facilities should be provided to get a bite to eat. Music is also too loud at night

Could be so much more . Great setting in the Marina and the decked area is lovely. However service was not good . First we had to get attention to serve us having been seated for more than 10 minutes. No one was bothering to clear the plates when we finished even though they had taken an order for coffee from us . So again had to get someone’s attention to clear the table . My taco’s were probably the most uninspiring I have ever had and the fish in batter was very greasy. While the prices are the norm these days . The 12.5 service charge for 2 people was far too much . Unfortunately my friend paid it , as I would not have due to the poor service . Train the staff better as this was not just one of the staff it was all of them . Put some imagination and love into the food .

I hate to be the one to say “I preferred the old place” but this new version is expensive and lacks any character. Staff seemed very keen to clear my plate and cup before I’d finished. It wasn’t busy so constantly being asked if I’d finished felt like being hurried. Food was ok and the view is great. Will give it another try when it’s bedded in a bit

We’ve used the Boathouse on and off for years but our most recent visit revealed significant change and, IMO, not for the better. The new building is lovely. But, as often happens with these kinds of changes, it now feels like the place is trying to be something it’s not. Lots of the team appear new so no doubt there are teething phases to get through but the service was poor, prices higher than the quality justified and the lovely atmosphere that used to exist has gone. Of course businesses change over time but the cosy, relaxed, friendly vibe has gone which is a real shame. Also - the “elastic band” seats are the most uncomfortable seats I think I’ve ever sat on. Fine if you’re wearing trousers or jeans but awful if you are in shorts!

First time since the refit and very much work in progress. Lovely refit, looked great but it was disappointing from there. We went for breakfast and we waited for half an hour from ordering to food arriving. After 25 minutes I chased it up and they gave us a complimentary latte each. The full English was small and pricey and there was no hash brown on the plate (metal skillet). The skillet was awkward to use as a plate and wasn’t hot so didn’t keep your food warm. Having waited such a long time the food wasn’t piping hot, apart from the beans, the bacon wasn’t crispy, the tomato was barely cooked and the sausage was warm but not hot. There was no side plate for the toast and no follow up to see if we wanted any sauces.

Arrived thinking their maybe a brunch menu, but told breakfast ended at 11. My daughter was really hungry so we decided to stay. We order a fish finger ciabatta and fish and chips. The service was great and the staff and ambience faultless but he food was bland and not worth the money. The ciabatta was short on fish and dry and my my daughters fish seemed tasteless and wattery. We were really dissappointed and would struggle to return, maybe for a coffee.

This is a great refurbishment, rebuild is more appropriate. Wonderful view and very nicely set out. It has only just opened so in truth it will take 3-6 months to settle. Everything, everyone there is new. We had breakfast which was okay, it wasn’t poor but the price point set makes it hard to not mark it down. We stayed on ate from the cafe also. Coffee was superb but once again the food was okay and not poor but the price point means it’s really has to be better than average. My sense is that this is going to be a top destination for its location and layout. Will be interesting to see and taste the evening menu. Good luck!

Just been for breakfast, first time since refurbishment. Really nicely done, still a bit of building work to do, but better atmosphere than before (larger and nicer ambience). Breakfast prices are high and food was nice but quantity wasn’t great. £11.50 for a slide of sourdough, a small portion of egg and a little bit of trout wasn’t good value. That said, the ambience made it more of an experience and you are paying a premium for a nice setting. Not wheelchair accessible yet either, but allegedly will be when finished.

Visited the Golden Bowler a few times now. Obviously, like it here, we are always made to feel welcome. The staff are keen and enthusiastic. The menu has plenty of choice enough for everyone from an all-day breakfast to Liver or steak and much more, thank you, chef and all staff for a great experience, What more do you need other than a good pint and keen prices. It's all here, I will be visiting again soon.
