The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We had a table downstairs in the front of the pub overlooking the water. Good varied menu that also caters for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free. We liked that you could order a 'light bite' which was also on the main menu but a smaller portion. Reasonable prices for lunch time 2 or 3 courses. Food was served quickly, was piping hot and was delicious.

We visited as we wanted to see the fireworks by the yacht club. We were so lucky go get a table upstairs where we had the most amazing view over the harbour and of the firework display. What a fantastic location! Our food was delicious, we both had the rump steak which was cooked perfectly and the Eton mess sundae was decadent enough to really feel spoilt. The wine was perfectly chilled and was far too easy to drink! We were expertly looked after by Charlie all night, who never made us feel rushed despite the pub being full to bursting due to the fireworks. In fact all the staff were fantastic, they dealt with the throng with professionalism and lots of smiles. It was a real shame about the idiot person who embarrassed himself in front of his children by making a fuss about having to wait to be served. Well done to the bar staff who maintained their professionalism despite the absolute arrogance being displayed. Overall, I can highly recommend the Rising Sun, we had a fantastic evening and will definitely be back!

Sailing club fireworks we're amazing as usual, the food at the riser was average and the service was ok, the staff seemed really over stretched and stressed, the manager nowhere to be seen and his wife was drinking with friends, surely on one of the busiest nights of the year you'd be working alongside side your staff not adding too their workload!!

Extremely well looked after by the host. Excellent table downstairs with a lovely view of the river and all the boating activities. 2 guests had the special lunch menu - lite bites- but were anything but that. 2 sausages and mash and gravy were wolfed down as was hunters chicken. Meanwhile I had an excellent sirloin with pepper sauce. The chips are really delicious, crispy on outside and fluffy on inside. Excellent value. Very relaxing birthday lunch get together

Went for Sunday lunch and the roast. The menu stayed the roast beef is pink so I chose this option. When it arrived, it was like shoe leather, DEFINITELY not pink! The roast potatoes were white, no colour on them at all, so I doubt they were roasted in the oven. This has to be THE worst Sunday roast I have ever had!! Horrible!

We visited the Rising Sun on a busy Sunday lunchtime and were glad we had booked. There were eight of us and we all absolutely loved our food choices. I had the roast turkey which was delicious and piping hot. The lady who served us was so friendly and welcoming. She really is an asset to the place. All in all we all said that we would definitely return and recommend it to our friends!

Friendly staff and tasty food with a fantastic view over the water at Warsash, what a lovely place to stop off for lunch. We opted for a combination of main menu & light bite options which was perfect for the two of us. Table service was provided by Charlotte who was exceptionally busy but so efficient and never let her smile or friendly approach waiver…. Superb service, great food, I’d absolutely recommend to everyone :-)

We went in to eat but we're kind of ignored with employees just walking past us, after waiting a while we decided to sit at a table but then was moved because we were in the wrong place. This problem occurred due to being ignored. Food was nice price's were reasonable.

It was a very busy Friday. Additionally a large party was booked in. Although the staff were clearly under pressure, they were attentive and very efficient - special mention to Ben, who was attending to kitchen work as well as waiting table. The Rising Sun is one of my favourite pubs in the area, with its superb location on the water’s edge, friendly environment and staff, and good food. I often go there when I have friends or family visiting and did so recently when we were able to sample the new menu. My eyes lit up when I saw that Lamb Shank has returned to the menu after an absence of several years. The lamb shank was served on a bed of mashed potatoes in a bowl holding the mint gravy, accompanied by broccoli and carrots. The meat was so tender it almost fell from the bone, the mash was buttery and creamy and the gravy was rich and succulent. What a delight. One of my friends followed my recommendation and agreed it was delicious. The menu includes some standard pub items – one of our party had Lasagne – and a number of not so common items – two others had Chicken Schnitzel. Everyone was very happy with their choices.

The mash was tasteless, the veggies were boiled too much and tasteless, the chicken was severely overcooked, was like hard rubber. The view and location were great, staff friendly, but the quality of the food for the price point was not on point. Sorry will not be going back.

Always rated this place in the past up until now. Fabulous setting and friendly staff. Great place for a sundowner out front in the summer. Nice chips too. Walked down the river from Lower Swanwick yesterday with my wife and the dog. Got caught in a heavy rain just before we arrived. Looking forward to a nice cosy pint, we were welcomed with a look up and down, assessed as to exactly how wet we were, asked if we were drinking outside, then offered a choice of two tables in an otherwise empty pub. I felt like I’d been scanned by Robocop. Couldn’t pick a window table as the young lady was concerned about the carpet getting wet. Really? Pub carpets are tough enough to unleash Hell upon. The staff were friendly enough but it wasn’t the warm welcome I’d had in mind. Having sat in an empty bar at a table of their choice, I decided one pint was enough. I whisked my better half and, by now, dry Border Terrier off to seek warmer hospitality elsewhere as I had a bitter taste I needed to wash away. I remember a time not so long ago when you just enter a pub, order a drink at the bar, maybe stay at the bar, maybe some small talk with other punters or grab a table. Order some food if the mood takes you! Who knows? Keep it spontaneous! If you like ruthless efficiency, this is the place for you. I feel that staff have completely lost site of what the average punter wants from a pub. The hospitality trade seems hooked on rules since COVID. I’m not alone in my opinion it turns out speaking to other locals. I’ll still order a take out in nice weather but yet another pub I’m done with as far as a simple pint is concerned. It really isn’t fun being a functioning alcoholic any more. UPDATE as of September 2024. Revisited for a sun downer sitting out front on a lovely Friday evening. Friendly reception, - (no wet dog in tow). Drinks efficiently despatched. Thought I’d grab a portion of chips for the kids as well. Box of chips brought out and delivered out front by one of the girls promptly. What a disappointment. Opened the box to a sparse offering of, what turned out to be, under cooked chips( see photo). My advice would be to par boil your chips first so they don’t stay hard inside once fried, and if your portions must be so paltry, try and disguise with a much smaller cardboard box. I don’t wish to try and teach the Chef to suck eggs, of course . Maybe it was a bad day. On the upside, it was a proper ice breaker with our fellow Sundowners out front who found the look of dismay on our faces, upon opening the mostly empty box of fresh air, absolutely hilarious. We had a good laugh about the comedy offering with our new friends and collectively came to the conclusion that next time, just nip to the chippy up the road for your chips and the pub for your beer. Thanks again Rising Sun! It’s all about location location location!

If you like to pay pub prices for a drink in a plastic tumbler to drink in the car park outside because you’re not allowed to sit in because you haven’t booked then this is your place. Sure, you’ll get some waffle about the beautiful view whilst enjoying your drink outside and how you can’t take a real glass outside. Get yourself some beers from the local co op and take them down there, it’s a lot nicer and cheaper too.

If laughter is the best medicine, then The Rising Sun should come with a health warning because it's a stomach-busting riot! We stumbled upon this gem of a place, and we're convinced it’s where comedians go to moonlight as chefs and waitresses. First off, let's talk about the dynamic duo, Sharon and Gary. They run this place with the precision of a Swiss watch and the humor of a stand-up routine. Sharon’s got the sharp wit, bubbly personality and warm greeting of Peggy Mitchell, Gary’s got the dad jokes that are so bad they’re good and could easily pass off as Phil Mitchell. Together, they make a visit feel like a family reunion, minus the awkward small talk and with way better food and lots of laughter. And speaking of food, it’s excellent and great value for money. Not sure how they manage to serve such delicious dishes without charging an arm and a leg, but I suspect they might have struck a deal with a very generous culinary deity. From the hearty mains to the lovely desserts, they have something for everyone. The staff, Charlotte and Kelly, deserve a standing ovation. They’re the comedic relief that every diner needs. Charlotte moves with the prowess of a 100m Sprinter negotiating hazards on her way throughout the pub with precision and a charming smile. Kelly has the kind of comedic timing that could give professional comedians a run for their money. But it’s not all jokes and laughter; these ladies are caring to the core. They make sure we feel like royalty on every visit and know what we will.order before we've even thought of it! In conclusion, The Rising Sun isn’t just a place to eat – it’s an experience. You come for the food, but you stay for the comedy and the warm, caring service. If you’re looking for a place where you can get great value for your money and leave with a smile plastered on your face, look no further. Sharon, Gary, Charlotte, and Kelly have got you covered. And trust me, you’ll be back for seconds, thirds, and probably fourths! They even make a fuss of our little dog!

Visited 7pm on a Thursday evening with my wife. We sat upstairs where only three other tables were occupied. Football (Euros) was on downstairs but it wasn’t that busy. The service was painfully slow - I had to chase up our food, our waitress could barely raise a smile and the food was mediocre at best. I had chicken in a basket with chips which was way overcooked and tough as old boots. My wife had a curry which was no better than ok - again the meat was tough and overcooked. We’ve been here before and it’s always been good but on this occasion it was way below par.

Edited, yes indeed, I confused this pub with the Rising Sun pub in Kent. This pub is situated close to the seafront. Friendly staff and a manager who checks the reviews. The Rising Sun, is a quiet hidden country pub. In fact you wouldn't know you were approaching a pub from the road. With a large beer garden. I got caught up watching the birds (the feather kind).
