Good selection of draft beers all served with a pretty smile. Roast beef with vegetables was delicious

Love cosy village pub, set in gorgeous town Alton Hampshire. The atmosphere is perfect for a cheeky pint in a warming place to visit.

Did not enjoy the food that much, especially my granddaughter's pasta (awful)!! and my dessert (very dry lemon drizzle)!!. All in all, disappointing Mother's Day lunch.

Wonderful food and faultless service. Being a pub can be noisy, but that is to be expected as people just enjoying themselves

Stunning Sunday lunch at the Chequers. Delicious pork and chicken roasts. Beautifully presented & generous portions. Highly recommend. Sue & the team provide excellent attentive service. Very comfortable & chilled atmosphere. Come hungry & leave full.

Negative experience. Made to feel like I was an absolute inconvenience when ordering a drink at the bar was repeatedly told he didn’t have time to serve me.I was told I had ordered my drinks in the wrong order and that I wasn’t able to have a tab .This was in front of people at the bar which made me feel very embarrassed and prevented me from returning for a second drink whilst waiting for our table. Table was late. But to end on a positive when the food did arrive, it was lovely but unfortunately the day was tainted by the initial treatment.

Waited almost an hour for a beef sandwich and some chips. Not worth the wait. Stale bread, cold tough beef. Chips ok. The embarrassed barman even gave us a free drink to apologise. Oh - and the toilets were absolutely filthy. We won't be returning.

We visited for a Saturday lunch, so I can't tell you about the rooms. Service was good, however the food was a little disappointing, lacking in quality and presentation for the prices.

Best burger in the area by far as well as lovely other dishes. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly, can’t fault.

country pub with reasonably priced excellent food

My late wife and I used to eat here regularly and our favourite was the pie of the day. Freshly cooked i a large tray and a portion was about 3 inches by 3 inches and about 2 inches high. Went there recently with my son and we both had pie of the day. What arrived was what looked like a commercially made pie sat on a small amount of mashed potato and some green vegetables. The only good thing was that there was a reasonable amount of beef in the pie.

Complaint. We came in for mothers day meal 1. Glasses was absolutely disgusting asked for clean ones got new ones but again the glasses were disgusting was advised sorry we are running out of glasses Absolutely poor service 2. The lady with the blonde hair dressed in black Our party of 4 all felt the coldness and bad attudie. I also watched her untill we left she was very blunt and really seem like she had a bad chip.in her shoulder 3. The stuffing was absolutely rock hard 4. The place is needing a good clean and dusting I found it totally unacceptable to be told highchair is behind them just get it out This should of been done prior to arrival or done for us while we sat down but blunty to be told do it ourselves. Again absolutely poor poor service Only 1 baffled staff actually smiled. This isn't hospitality or delivering excellent service The pudding (trfile) was a wash out The jelly wasn't set correctly The Custard was tasteless and the fruit was a very weird mix for normal trifle. The toilets were disgusting and need a good clean They is no signs to state when last cleaned Absolutely shocking and very unacceptable

I popped in for lunch with my daughter. I had the chicken burger, which I can honestly say was the best chicken burger I've ever had. The service was lovely and friendly, attentive and helpful. Highly recommended and if I'm ever back in this area again I will definitely come back. Thank you King's Head!
