I met friends here whilst on I was on holiday from my home in Canada. As an expat I decided to have the light bite Ploughmans cheese and ham open sandwich. Heck was I disappointed! One very small oval piece of sourdough bread with bits of grated cheese and apple on bits of ham. We were a party of 10 and everyone was shocked when they saw my order! Thankfully I had ordered some chips otherwise I would have been starving! When I complained, I was informed it was the light bite and that's what it consisted of. I had to ask for some chutney. For nearly 10 pounds, it was a huge disappointment as Ploughmans lunch is so typical of a very British lunch which we don't get typically in Canada! Don't bother having this!

We call into this quaint pub and restaurants every so often and always enjoy our time there. It has a good size carpark on site which is useful and great beer garden as well. This has been improved since we will last there and now covers quite an area and has umbrellas For when it gets a bit inclement. The inside of the pub is very nicely laid out and has a relaxed atmosphere. You can dine in there but we were there just for drinks and they have a good range of beers that seem to be well kept. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and professional so this is definitely a place that has a lot to recommend it.

Just intended to go for mains - Supreme of Chicken with porcini mushroom and thyme sauce on a potato and onion rosti topped with spinach, tender and tasty, but I hd Sea Bream with samphire dill and prawn bisque amazing! Bream crispy skinned and perfectly cooked, and a lick your plate clean sauce, served on a dill potato cake. Would definitely have it again! Could not resist the Banofee Pavlova - truly next level! Light crisp shelled merigue with chewy inside, piled with banana creme topped with two spears of banana coated with shards brittle caramel and the whole thing swirled caramel sauce and dotted with lemon thyme/verbena? Divine but definitely a sharer despite its modest looking size! Olivia was the perfect host and we washed it all down with a large pot of Chamomile Tea. Can't wait to go again!

We booked a table for 7.30pm which wasn't available until 7.50pm, and the main course wasn't served until 10pm which did not bother me in the slightest (probably because I was drinking and having a fine time), although some of my teetotal friends weren't so content. Having had a poor meal last month, I was invited back by the business owner so that he could show me my experience was not typical. I returned last week with my wife and a friend and have to say that, with differing menus, the food for all three courses was of a completely different and hugely improved standard. We all had a very good meal over three courses accompanied by a first class Red wine. As previously stated the service was very good, and the ambiance could not be improved on a cold dark winter's night. We enjoyed it so much that we are returning with family next weekend.

Over the years we have used The Old Queen's Head for evenings with friends of by ourselves. It has mostly been a good experience, but this latest visit was very disappointing. We had had a large lunch at home and so opted for two small plates for the evening meal. My fish cakes were dry and mostly potato, and the crispy beef had been overcooked, was not crispy, but simply hard and mostly inedible. The evening was, however, salvaged by a good wine and excellent service by lovely staff.

We had a reservation at 4:30pm 06/08/23 as I wanted to take my partner for a decent Sunday dinner as he’s not from the area. We got there for 4:20pm and ordered a bread starter, duo meat Sunday dinner and a beef Sunday dinner. 10 mins after we ordered our food we got our starter and before we even started eating , our roast came out. I find it odd that no one flagged it as we asked for a starter before the main not to have it as a side so it felt awkward and rushed. It was a-bit like get in and get out and the standard and quality of food echoed that. The beef was stringy and fatty, the 3 potatoes given were solid and dry and it was just disappointing that I didn’t eat it and was getting more and more frustrated with how our meal turned out. Also charging an additional £5.50 as a side for stuffing is crazy, even though they had ran out. It was if the food was just sitting there under a hot plate waiting to be served. We noticed there was a table in before us and by the time we left after 25 mins of getting there and sitting down they received their main meals when they had ordered their food before we did. The staff were friendly enough and took the meal off our receipt but that didn’t change how I felt about the overall experience and the frustration that was very apparent. Reason we went out for a meal was because I didn’t want to cook for a change and was really looking forward to a decent Sunday meal, relaxed environment and time to catch up. I ended up going home and getting a take away! We had the opportunity to go to book the royal standard as it’s always a winner but wanted to try something different, well let’s face it we won’t be going back there.

Went for a Sunday trail hike on the Chiltern route and came across this pub near the end. We decided to fill up with a roast after 4 hours of walking, and my partner and I each had the beef roast with shared sides of cauliflower cheese and stuffing. The main was really nice, gravy and beef slices could have been thicker. After the main, it took a while to get served. For dessert we each had the peach crumble, which was nice but lukewarm. My crumble contained, what I believe to be, a piece of plastic. It was hard and half the size of a pea. When flagged, the staff kindly got me another crumble and advised it was a piece of crystallised sugar - I didn't argue but disagree as it had 0 taste and definitely would have broken when I chomped down on it. When the new crumble came out, it was piping hot as I would have expected it to be and contained no plastic / crystallised sugar. The place itself was quite niche, random bits and bobs placed everywhere, low cushioned archways for people like me who hit their head, and a large outdoor area which I imagine is lovely in the sun. An ok experience marred by the dessert, plenty of other eatery's in the area should I ever do the walk again.

I used to frequent this pub back in 2007 when I worked round the corner. Now I am back in New Zealand but every time I visit the UK, I have to go back here - no matter where I am in the UK. This trip included the kids and did not disappoint. Even though the place was CRAMMED with Friday Xmas parties and we had no booking, they found a table for us no problem. The food here is so great... you can't go wrong. And the ambience is classic british - steeped in history which we love. I have been having their bubble and squeak for nearly 15 years now and it is still soo good. Luckily there were other people with me and they got other dishes which were equally as good. I'm sad to be back in NZ but of course, I will be back on my next trip.

After several explanations and apologies, main course wasn't served till 8pm. An offer of a round of drinks might have helped. And then in the middle of the night I realised that my sausages had not been thoroughly cooked. Visited on New Years Day, our third time since summer. We've been to a lot of local pubs in Bucks/Oxfordshire and the Old Queen's Head is undoubtedly one of the best if you're looking for a place to have a bite to eat, or just a drink on a lazy Sunday. The pub has a beautiful rustic interior and a pretty, medium-sized garden (mostly patio). Online booking is straightforward, and we were welcomed promptly and sat in the dining section of the pub, to the left as you go in. Staff were friendly and helpful, as usual. We ordered the roasts which we have always found to be very good at the Old Queen's Head. We were fortunate in that despite being seated at the same time as a party of 12, our food came out within 15 minutes of ordering. Some fussy customers might say that is too quick, but every time we have eaten here, no matter how busy, we've always received our food promptly, which is a testament to the organisation of the kitchen. The food itself has always been to a high standard, especially the roasts which I would rate as one of the best in the local area. A nice mix of veg, decent roast potatoes and one of the best yorkshire puddings I've had at any pub, not to mention tender beef. All in all a great place to visit with family and kids on the weekend, or with friends in the evening.

The bar area is always bustling (which is always a good sign in my eyes) but as there is a separate restaurant area - it gives you the option of a quieter setting, should you prefer. We just had a fantastic Christmas Office dinner here - and it really was spot on! As there are some great walks locally it is well worth integrating as an 'en-route' stop off - at anytime of the year! I really cannot recommend it enough!

Beautiful pub, had a couple of Sunday lunches here with friends plus another large family gathering for my 50th - we were very well looked after, and the food was great. Top drawer!

A friendly pub with decent food and very good service. A cosy place to be on an Autumn day in the Chilterns.

It has taken me a while to leave this review but I am now ready. This is such an excellent pub and the people who work here were wonderful. In August I had to organise a wake here for my dad's funeral - what was one of the hardest days of my life was made that bit easier by the professionalism and sensitivity of the team here. This is a heartfelt thank you that your kindness during this time - from organising it on the phone with me, explaining clearly how it works right through to your work on the day - will not be forgotten. The service and food was top quality. I would recommend for anyone

From the moment we stepped into The Crown we were given a lovely warm welcome! We took a table next to a warming fire which was much appreciated due to being -5 outside. Food was fabulous both choosing a main & dessert. Service impeccable. Really relaxed, friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be visiting again. Fantastic!

Booked a while ago for a special birthday. We've been really looking forward to the culinary experience and having many Tom Kerridge books that have become our go to for superb recipes. Have to say we were disappointed on arrival,we didn't get that special welcome you would expect from a 2 star michelin establishment. The bar area was nice for a quick refreshment. After a pleasant stroll around Marlow we were shown to our room which was nice! Just nice, nothing more! On arrival for our evening meal we again sat in the bar area for a pre dinner drink. We ordered our 3 courses before being shown to our table which to be honest wasn't great,it was like a booth probably the worst table and very uncomfortable. I will touch briefly on the food which I would say was very underwhelming!! We are big foodies and like to eat out and enjoy good honest food. Have to say I'm surprised they have any michelin stars as the food was not at all what we anticipated, some elements were extremely salty and I know seasoning is key but this was too much,I look forward to your feed back on this and expect nothing more than it just wasn't to our taste!! We all agreed and being a birthday celebration the food was just OK and absolutely not worth the £175 per Person. All in all I wouldn't recommend which is ashame as this should have been a special treat.
