Bad experience, I came last weekend for a Sunday lunch. March 23rd, the food took ages to come out and was bang average. Not to talk about the cost !! I paid an arm and a leg for mediocre food. Not to mention an annoying Middle Aged bald man who kept walking around with bloody flashing glasses on. Won’t be coming again

Came for a Sunday Roast and it was incredible, whilst we were there saw a leaflet for steak night with a very reasonably priced menu so booked the following Thursday after our Sunday Roast to come again. Yet again amazing, I had the flat iron which was cooked to perfection and my wife had the fillet which was melt in your mouth with flavoursome garlic butter. Needless to say I couldn’t recommend this place anymore, also many thanks to the wonderful staff who are just as great as the food, see you Sunday as yes we have booked again!

We popped in for a drink, we did not stay at the hotel or eat here so we were not able to rate the food. The main bar area was really nice with comfy chairs and had a wood burning stove. Beer and cider were good and we could have stayed there all afternoon, really warm and cosy. The restaurant area looked great and nicely arranged. Will definitely go back and might try the food next time.

We had a wonderful evening meal here on Saturday. We came from Bristol to visit family and really wanted to try this place out after following the May family since lockdown. Food was incredible! All 4 of us were fully satisfied and instantly planning our next family meal out here! I especially LOVED the garlic&chilli butter! Izzy was a warm, welcoming and friendly host (considering they were short staffed) this didn't show as her and Roly were fantastic. Both very happy to chat and we were never made to feel rushed at all. We cannot wait to visit again when we are visiting next! Thanks for a great meal guys. Shannon & Family. X

One wordphenomenal- food, service and atmosphere. We went for steak night. Steak was absolutely delicious with beautiful seasoning. Definitely over ordered on the sides as the chips were good generous portions but we were able to take leftovers home. The bread before the dinner with the chili and garlic butter was super tasty. Service was great and the staff were really friendly and let me have 3 sorbets as I couldn't choose just two. My husband had the apple and pear crumble which was also delicious. Overall a really lovely restaurant. Will definitely be visiting again.

We had a lovely family roast here on Sunday and it far surpassed any of our expectations. The building is cosy and warm inside with attentive friendly staff on hand at all times. The food was rapidly served and every single thing on the plate was delicious however the standouts were the huge Yorkshire puddings, perfect roasties and my favourite the honey roast parsnips. If that wasn’t enough I think the cinnamon apple crumble was one of the best I have ever had, heavy on the cinnamon with a lovely crunchy crumple generously heaped on top. Overall we all had a great time and were thoroughly stuffed and satisfied afterwards.

Disappointed with the quality of our Sunday Roast ( party of four , early 12pm sitting) which included raw vegetables and grim cauliflower cheese ! We alerted staff to the issues but they didn’t really care and made no effort to resolve. We ended up leaving lots of food on our plates and none of us enjoyed it . Unfortunately puddings ( fruit crumbles ) did not redeem the situation. What a shame, will not be returning.

The food here is lovely, and the staff are a great bunch of people. Overall it’s a nice couple of hours out. The only thing that lets this place down is unfortunately the pricing. Disappointed with our visit to the Russell Arms. Stopped in for a quick bite and drinks on a long drive. Okay, fair enough, food wasn't on until 5:30pm, no problem. Ordered drinks and then realised there's nowhere to actually SIT DOWN! 🤯 Walked into what we thought was a normal pub area only to be barked at by a staff member for trying to sit at a table. Apparently, it's the "restaurant area" and off-limits, even though food service was finished an hour earlier! No offer of help to find another table, just a rude telling-off. Seriously, where's the customer service? 🙄 Went back to the first girl we spoke to and asked if there was anywhere to sit. She looked over to some dark, grotty corner ledge (seriously??) before admitting there was nothing but bar stools. Honestly felt like they didn't want customers there. Staff were unhelpful and unwelcoming. Crap service all round. Definitely won't be making the mistake of returning. Do yourself a favour and drive on to the next pub! 👎

Such a welcoming establishment. The staff attentive and working hard without nothing too much trouble. Apart from please give us time to read the menu and decide leisurely what to eat. Starters first without ordering the main course at the same time. The main was served but the vegetables delayed so the meat was cold and the roast beef chewy so had to ask for a steak knife. The roast potatoes were like rocks. The gravy packet made. But the vegetables delicious. A long wait for the pudding and the pastry was burnt. Such a shame for somewhere highly recommended at a premium price for food and more so drinks .

Went for Sunday roast today after seeing all the hype from influencers on social media. We were so looking forward to it as we rarely get Sundays off together as a family. We waited long for anyone to take our drinks orders but understood if busy these things take time. Although some staff were just standing behind the bar. We went for the roast beef and pork. Couldn't cut though the meat, asked for a steak knife and thought that would help. Unfortunately it was so chewy that we left it. Our roasts were also served in a bowl rather than a plate. It's hard to cut tough meat so serving it in a in a bowl doesn’t help. Sent most of it back. We are so disappointed. We advised the waitress of not being able to eat anything but some of the veg and potatoes and were told the manager will give us one roast for free. We drove half an hour for this disappointing experience. Manager left it to waitress to sort out and didn't even apologise. Waitress was very friendly and tried her best. The table next to us had the same problems with the beef roast but didn't want to say anything. We will definitely not be back.

So disappointed after reading the menu. The three of us were seated in the freezing bar area at a table for eight despite booking a table for three in the restaurant. It just went from bad to worse. In short, food was overcooked (cauliflower cheese, mush with solid crust of dried out cheese, bland. Potatoes like leather) or undercooked (parsnips and carrots were raw, pigs in blankets were poor quality and flobby) I didn’t try the stuffing, it didn’t look inviting and the chefs ‘pan’ gravy was Bisto without a doubt. We waited 50 minutes for food, and drinks that were ordered but not brought to us were on the bill. There was just too much wrong! We were enticed in by a fabulous sounding menu but there wasn’t a single element that was right about our experience.

Had the vegan version of the russ burger and I think it could have been better. There was no substitute for the coleslaw, the vegan patty was dry and the lettuce was lacklustre. It definitely wasn't worth the £19 and I do think there could be more effort to make a delicious burger worth coming back to. Other than that the service was wonderful and the pub itself was a lovely vibe. In addition to this the prices on the menu were incorrect as it said that the starters were 6.50 but we were charged 7.50. London prices for a country pub is not the vibe.

This a lovely pub which feels modernised but still cosy and in a nice rural location. Came with a couple of friends for the Sunday roast, which was fairly good. The starters were 10/10 - pork belly bites and halloumi. The roast beef was tender and soft, the Porchetta was very tasty with the crackling too. To be honest, the veg was pretty basic and not much going on (carrots and parsnips as well as some greens), and the roasties looked crispy but weren't actually crispy at all, but at least they were fluffy on the inside. Yorkie was lovely and the gravy good too. For the most part, the service was great but I do find it baffling walking into a pub and stood like a lemon for a good few minutes without being acknowledged by the staff by the bar who didn't even look to be busy. If entering from the car park, you may go through the door by the bar rather than the main entrance so it's not clear where you should wait when you have a reservation which may be why I stood waiting with no acknowledgement from staff (I've never been here before, so I'm not to know there's a different entrance). A bit of subtle music might give a bit more of an atmosphere in a pub like this too. Other than the lack of welcome and pretty average veg accompanying a roast, this was a nice experience.

Food was ok some bits a little odd one of our party had the duck which was tasty but needed some veg and potatoes with it and at £26 for duck sauce and a couple of root veg pieces makes it very expensive and to be honest very over priced. Burger was tasty but very hard, chips not the best sprinkled with herbs that didn't taste good. Overall a bit pricey for what it was which is probably why we had the restaurant to ourselves No atmosphere and very quiet which made the row from the kitchen not great to hear. Having followed this family on social media for a few years, I let the hype die down and took a 2 hour journey this morning to try out the Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed, the table was nicely situated next to a window in the corner. Waiting staff very attentive, checked whether there were any allergies, asked whether we had been before, made recommendations and knew their products. We didn’t get chance to take photos of the famous pork belly bites as they were eaten in record speed. The roast dinner was delicious, I opted for a sticky toffee pudding and the other half had a lemon tart with raspberry sorbet, and again we were not disappointed. A really nice little pub and glad we travelled to see what it was all about. We left suitably stuffed and you could have rolled us out. I wish the May family all the best in their new venture.

My friend and I went for a Sunday lunch a few months back. The food came out in good time and the service was really good. The drinks were nice and the garden is lovely. When the food came out it was all a bit cold. Definitely had been sitting out for a while. The Yorkshire puddings were really nice. That was probably the only thing that was nice…. Beef was cold and overcooked, some of the vegetables were hard and some were wet and soggy and very overcooked. The potatoes were okay and so was the gravy. The price was pretty good. However, the next day my friend and I both experienced cramps all night and diarrhoea the next day. We had ordered the same meal so I think there must have been a link as we were both not well. Had high expectations and sadly it fell very short of them after everyone hyping it up, don’t think I will return.

The starters were enjoyable, and the main course, a burger, was satisfactory. However, there was no atmosphere as we were the only table. Providing a drinks list would help customers be aware of prices in advance.

Having booked Sunday lunch 2 months ago and given the popularity of this venue we were all looking forward to our visit. The car park was packed and we had to park down the road like many others - what we hoped was a good sign. We arrived on time (table of 6) and were taken to our table out the back in a very cramped room, which even the staff were struggling to get between the heaving tables. Our order for food and drinks was taken in good time, however 45 minutes later we were informed that our written order had been deleted from the computer system due to a technical difficulty and could we place our order again. By this point we were beyond hungry and getting restless. It took a full hour from our arrival for starters to be served and we had to chase up the mains again (I probably could have cooked a roast from scratch in this time). When the mains arrived the plate was dominated by a overcooked Yorkshire pudding that whilst impressive in size, was left by most as inedible, potatoes that the knives provided couldn't even cut through and hard carrots/parsnips. The staff were all polite and apologetic, but clearly whilst the social media side is doing a great job to impress and pull in the customers this seems to be at detriment to the quality/service provided.

Really lovely relaxing afternoon with a smashing lunch. From arriving to leaving we were treated excellently by the staff, lunch was terrific and the atmosphere was really nice helped by the warm sun which has been rare this year. Definitely going back again.

The car park was full so could not see if there were any Blue Badge spaces. Entry through the front door is difficult for any person with walking difficulties. Staff not trained to greet and serve customers. The menu was graced with the usual burger (expensive for a bun with filling) and the Chicken Tikka was off the menu. Food service was very slow ,and food of indifferent quality. A starter of olives and sundried tomatoes arrived without said tomatoes and any recpticle in which to place olive stones. It would seem that we were expected to place them on the table. The Caesar Salad was based on a bed of rocket,a few croutons, a couple of anchovie slices and a thin sauce. The garden looked very pleasant, but nothing else wil lnspire us to visit again.

Went for a Sunday lunch here and couldn't recommend it more great pub decorated really nicely. Staff were all extremely polite and always anticipating our needs. Food itself was really tasty and looked great too. Managed to snap a picture of my halloumi starter but forgot to get one of the main because we were too excited to tuck in!!

Went here a couple weeks ago after seeing it being recommended on social media so I went and the food was ok but the atmosphere and staff was shocking. It was loud. I felt rushed. The staff were just blatantly rude. There were people pointing cameras every way we looked. No wheel chair friendly tables would not recommend

Was v excited to go, especially our 16 year old who follows daddy May cooks. An hour and twenty five mins after we ordered they told us that they didn't have the steaks which two of us had ordered. 12 year old almost asleep by the time the main arrived and we were so hungry. They apologised but still added service to the bill. Not what you expect when paying over £200 for a meal.

My friends and I arrived at the Russell Arms 15 minutes before their opening time on a Sunday, eager to have some lunch and drinks after a long and tiring hike around Coombe Hill and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we had hoped for. We were among the first to enter the pub and requested a table for three. To our disappointment, the lady informed us that they were fully booked. When we asked when the next available booking would be, she replied that the entire day was booked solid. We then enquired about seating outside and in the garden, but those were supposedly booked as well. Even a drink at the bar was off-limits even tough we'd be standing. Left with the bitter taste of rejection, we departed disappointed and ended up consuming the few snacks we had brought with us before continuing our hike. What added insult to injury was that as we passed by the Russell Arms a few hours later, we saw plenty of free tables. It left us feeling that they could have accommodated us, which marred an otherwise brilliant day of hiking. As a warning to fellow hikers and visitors, if you plan on going to the Russell Arms after your hike, make sure to book in advance to avoid the same disappointment we experienced. We ended up going to Wendover for lunch, where there are more choices and a much more welcoming atmosphere. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a post-hike meal.

Slightly embarrassed to admit we drove an hour and a half to visit but was definitely worth it. We didn’t get a starters and each had the chicken roast and I have to say it was incredible. Super generous portions. We couldn’t even finish it and I’m not sure I’ll ever be hungry again. I’m always a bit sceptical of pub roasts but this one was very good. Dont get starters if you go, you’ll explode 😂

Burghers cafe area is beginning to look a little tired. The food is nice, and we will continue to visit regularly, however the decor is in need of some serious TLC. The couch seats are very badly worn and its a bit drab.

Did not enjoy the food that much, especially my granddaughter's pasta (awful)!! and my dessert (very dry lemon drizzle)!!. All in all, disappointing Mother's Day lunch.
