Such a lovely dog friendly pub. We arrived in Sandwich for a weekend away and couldn’t have found a nicer, friendlier pub. Food was exceptional and the waiting staff were very attentive.

Decided to pop in for an evening meal as we often have a bite to eat here at lunchtime and the food is always great. Had a great meal and as usual the service is excellent. This is a great traditional pub with a really friendly atmosphere and warm welcome (and a lovely warm fire). The menu is full of good choices and a great selection of beer and wines. We thoroughly recommend the Crispin for a great night out.

I ordered the cider battered fish and chips..When it arrived I couldn't even get my knife to cut the batter it just shattered into hard pieces..They did offer to replace it but the waitress said it would only be the same..I ate the fish inside but left the shell, I've never had battered fish so hard to eat in the past. I suggest they change the kind of batter they use..I ordered the bread and butter pudding with ice cream..This again was partly burnt round the edges, and didn't resemble the pudding at all, as there was no egg custard as part of the pudding. I complained and he took it of the bill.. There were 6 of us at the meal, and to be fair 4 of them said they were happy with their meal except for the other person who had the cod and chips..The staff were very helpful..no problem with them..I'd had a roast their the previous Sunday which was good although when it arrived it was luke warm..

The Sunday Roast here is by far the best in town, have now tried all available in sandwich and can say that we will only come back here for our next. And the lady (didn't get her name, but older than the rest wearing glasses) who served us made the visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend a visit to this lovely pub.

Husband had liver and I had prawn sandwich..both were tasty and apple crumble for after which again was tasty Great value Drinks a little expensive but hey it's a pub Worth a visit

We visit The Crispin Inn frequently. Always worth the visit, lovely food, great atmosphere. Lovely snug, pub dining and outside area overlooking the river.

Don't order The Earl Sandwich unless you like loads of Cheese Mac, because you will only get a Table spoon of Pulled Beef, on soggy Bread.

Wonderful place. 3 of us went there today for 1st time. I had the most fab red pepper and carrot soup, hubby had fish n chips, beautiful fresh fish and son had enormous cheese burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. We all pigged out on dessert and I had a beautiful coffee. Staff were excellent, just sorry I didn't get our server's name as she was outstanding. Couldn't fault the meal. Well done Crispin I certainly hope you continue to do well.

The most unappetizing lunch ever. Straight from Aldi thrown onto a plate and asking £18.00. Never again.

Waited 40 mins for a table, finally got seated, ordered food and drinks, as we sat and waited with our drinks a waiter came over to move us, it took 20 mins for them to decide we were at the wrong table. And had to move. Chips were nice but the steak was the saltiest I've ever tasted, waiter smiled and said yes, then just walked off.

A nice pub obviously a busy place which is fairly noisy at the time of our visit we were informed that some of the menu was not available this turned out to be just about everything we wanted so we ordered the Thai green curry fish and chips and the ribeye steak to be honest none of the meals were great especially the curry which was unlike any I had seen before ,all in all whilst not a disaster we won't be returning as other establishments offer better quality and prices

Too bad about the lunch, which was really not tasty and very poor (salad out of the bag on the plate, no dressing). Next time; eat in the bell hotel and enjoy a drink and the atmosphere in this pub!

I regularly visit the Crispin Inn as I have found it to be a great place to eat, drink and socialise. It has a wonderful atmosphere, serves a great pint and excellent meals. My wife and I have eaten there on a few occasions and all of the meals have been superb and I would rate all of them as 5 stars. The staff have always been very polite, friendly and attentive, even when they are really busy.

Website advertises dinner until 21:30. Due to roadworks in Sandwich one of our party was delayed (table booked for 20:30). Officious waitress with long dark hair informed us at 20:40 that if we didn’t order by 20:45 the kitchen would close! Unnecessary attitude. As a result we will never use this pub again.

Just abysmal! Service - non existent. Food - appalling. Cost - excessive. Took my elderly mother for lunch. She was looking forward to having the seafood platter with an added half lobster. Prawns were tasteless, mussels inedible and the lobster, what a joke, it was a tiny lobster that should never have been caught - no more than about 25 grams of meat costing an extra £9! My lambs liver was totally overcooked and tough - just awful. Service was non existent, we had to go to the bar three times to ask for drinks and other items. Such an extraordinary disappointment. We feel completely duped by the Crispin Inn. We will never return. Especially when a stone’s throw away across the river you have the new Quayside Bar that serves great food at a reasonable price with superb staff and service.

Nice pub, had Wadsworth 6x on draft which I haven't seen for ages. London prices though but that's the norm nowadays.

Totally over rated , we ordered Sunday lunch , when it arrived it was stone cold , we complained to the server who apologised and offered to “ go and warm them up “ I asked if that meant sticking the whole dinner in a microwave and was told no . 5 minutes later the meals returned with the same food on that we had tried . The meal it self was tasteless . One slice of beef ( which because it HAD been microwaved was tough as hell . Two small potatoes which we could not work out if they were boiled or roasted , a table spoon of savoy cabbage and a quarter of a carrot . A huge Yorkshire pudding covered the plate which was doughy and tasteless . The gravy , or due , was like water . No horse radish or condiments were offered . We then spent the rest of the afternoon with bloated stomach and diarrhoea. Our yacht is permanently moored 30 meters away , if they can’t provide good service for a local they should stop 🛑. Probably why they insist you pay for your meal in advance !

Went for a pint with my partner and our friends and was absolutely disappointed with my recent visit. Ordered a pint, and it was clearly flat and off – anyone could tell the barrel had gone bad. When I politely raised this with the staff, they completely refused to replace it, insisting it was fine. No effort was made to rectify the situation, and I was left with a bad pint I couldn't drink. This kind of attitude and lack of customer care is really off-putting.

When we went there for the first time we were told they only do food at six. When we went there for the second time and wanted to eat at six again, we were told they "don't do food that late." ? Make up your mind. Other people came after us and were able to eat even though they supposedly "don't do food that late". Two stars because the food was good at least, but set your opening times and *keep* them.

Beautiful old pub with great food and friendly staff

The pub is in a beautiful village and it was like going back in time...in a good way. Staff were very friendly, beer was good and there was a lovely feeling to the place.

So pleased we found this place on our trip to Sandwich. The two ladies serving (I realised I didn't catch their names, sorry!) were absolutely wonderful and so lovely with our dog. We were made to feel very welcome. The food was fantastic as well. Really great quality food and generous portions. Great atmosphere and the loveliest staff. Thoroughly recommend

This such a good pub but lunch (fish finger sandwich) was average being too stodgy. The bread should not be so much bigger than the fish finger. Also, there is rarely a smile offered upon arrival so not the most welcoming of venues sadly.

Friendly staff, lovely ambience, great food. Had the fish finger ciabatta for lunch and it was delicious. Good price as well.

Always make time to have a drink here

I am a regular customer and the service is always absolutely amazing, the staff are extremely lovely and friendly, fast and very good service. Would definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for the perfect spot for food and drink.

I have been a customer here many times both for food & drinks. The food here is exceptional, I indulged myself in the seafood platter which was full of flavour and was enough for more than two to enjoy. As well as popping in for a Sunday dinner which is almost as good as my mother’s 😉. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed and they always have live music on a Sunday! The staff are lovely, always up for a chat when they’re not hard at work and have the time! Love this place and would always recommend no matter what the occasion!

Had mussels main, over cooked and they were tiniest I have ever seen!!! no bigger than my thumb nail. Very meagre portion.

Please do not take any notice of the negative reviews. We have been coming to the Crispin for many years. Fantastic staff and great atmosphere. The food is lovely, portion size are brill and good value for money. Dan is great, always accommodating. Spent my birthday there last night and had a brilliant time nothing is too much trouble can’t wait to visit again in august xxx

It took 1 and 29 mins waiting for food in the end we got our money back and left with no food bar man very rude so went had a lovely Italian but I'll never go to crispind again I asked the waitress how long our food would b she went off to kitchen and then came back and dint come tell me she just went back behind bar very rude and really not a good service just a total waste of time

Dan and staff made us most welcome. Dispite an unfriendly dog in the doorway as we entered, we enjoyed our visit. Food and wine excellent.

The Crispin Inn, we stumbled upon by accident but holy cow! So glad we did, the ladies who assisted us, were full of kindness and very cheerful! The food, my favorite out a recent 4 day road trip in U.K.

Popped in yesterday for a Sunday lunch. The staff were very welcoming and offered us table in the snug which was very pleasant. The service was very professional, and the roasts were prepared and presented to a high standard. Highly recommended.

The Sunday roast is absolutely fantastic and the staff were really welcoming and accommodating. The pub was very busy when we went, but the atmosphere was great and the service was very good. Looking forward to coming back in the near future!

Dog friendly is a great start! Had a delicious roast in here a couple weeks ago, considering it was a Sunday we managed to get a good table and the food was great! Got a go-bag with the leftovers as I couldn't finish it. Also popped in just for a drink recently and again lovely atmosphere, friendly locals and staff. Will definitely go again soon.

Delicious Sunday roast enjoyed by us all, sitting by the cosy open fire. Great service and friendly staff as always. I had a vegan nut roast which had been pre-ordered and made fresh by the chef, which was amazing. We will definitely be back soon.

We have just had a really delicious meal, beautiful pork chops, liver and bacon that were really enjoyable. Our waitress was very attentive and very sweet, she checked what dishes were suitable for gluten free and was attentive making sure we had everything we needed. A lovely pub and atmosphere with a varied menu and plenty of gluten free options. Highly recommend

Excellent setting, nice decor and staff very welcoming. Food A1 served hot and tasty. Best roast ever. Massive Yorkshire puddings and the gravy was the topping on the cake so to say. Nice selection on Menu and suitable for everyone. Will certainly be returning

Came here for my wife’s birthday lunch after a recommendation from some friends… what can I say apart from the fact that the food was shocking?! Terrible, rubbery roast beef that was tougher than a strip of leather; hard, inedible roasties and shop-bought yorkshires. To be fair the staff were polite and apologetic and the pub itself had a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. But it was a horrible way to finish off our weekend in Sandwich. Would not go back.

Spur of the minute decision. Lunch in Sandwich. Okay. Not been before. Let's see what's open on a Monday. The Crispin Inn is, and from there website it looked ideal. AND IT WAS. Excellent food and service ... I had their version of 'The Earl of Sandwich, SANDWICH' - delicious.

Good location and service. Starters were a good sized portion. My wife’s main course of liver and bacon was tasty but unfortunately my ribeye steak was more a steak frites and over cooked which was disappointing for the price. I don’t normally complain and was pleased the manager didn’t go defensive but very empathetic and offered free desserts but we declined which he then reduced the bill.

Lively pub on a Friday night with live music from 8. The place was busy but we found seats in a quieter room to the left behind the bar. Comfortable with a small outside space leading to the river path.

Had an excellent evening meal catching up with old friends. A proper pub serving excellent food. Highly recommend the bangers and mash. Friendly and efficient service.

We just had to do it. A sandwich in Sandwich. And a monster at that with the fully loaded Ear of Sandwich sandwich. Very well put together considering it had everything in it. Nice pub right in the centre with. A good view onto the old toll bridge, so great for people watching. And friendly bar staff included for free 😍

As locals were making a big effort to try more places we don’t normally eat at as opposed to just sticking to the ones we know are good and safe. Not been here for many years - last time in fact it was Caribbean themed and wasn’t good ! Complete opposite now though, we had a friendly welcome from the staff and were seated with menus and drinks in hand within a few minutes despite the pub being pretty busy. Nothing was too much trouble for the 3 guys front of house, very polite, friendly and very prompt without making you feel rushed. Food was great, pulled pork burger which was very tasty and the wife had chicken schnitzel - both really well cooked and full of flavour. We just about had room for pudding and a coffee as well. All in all a really good night, will definitely be back to try some different menu choices 😁

As we were in Sandwich I ordered the sandwich special. Very disappointed. Bread was so tough that it was almost impossible to cut with the provided knives and hence impossible to eat. When I reported this to the Waitress she expressed apologies but the management made no effort to correct or compensate for the situation. We finished our drinks and left. The late Earl of Sandwich was probably turning in his grave!

Thanks to the amazing Crispin team for making my birthday celebration special! Eight of us had a wonderful evening. The staff were attentive and efficient - nothing was too much trouble for them. I recommend coming here for your family celebrations.

Food here had been pretty bad but local gossip rumoured that, with a new chef, it had become very good. Tripadvisor reviews were mixed but we gave it a try yesterday and soon regretted the decision. We had pre-booked a table - though, as it transpired, there were plenty in the restaurant area. The bar was very busy so it took ten minutes for someone to direct us to our table, a further ten minutes to get a menu and another ten minutes to order. We were warned that there could be an hour's delay for the food. We wondered how since the restaurant remained largely empty but, having plenty of family gossip to catch up on, ordered some nibbles and drinks and accepted the wait. After another ten minutes, the drinks appeared. After twenty minutes, we asked when the olives would appear (no cooking, after all) and eventually a plate of undercooked doughy 'ciabatta' (nothing like the real thing) with tiny dish of some sort of oil (not good olive oil) appeared. The new waitress had misunderstood our order but, never mind, we accepted this was a human error. and were hungry enough to tackle the poor food. Time went on...and on...and on. Meanwhile, we were missing all the entertainments on offer for the Sandwich Festival. After considerably longer than the 'hour', our two seafood platters and one steak arrived. The steak was acceptable, despite the chips not being 'real'. The platters were nothing like those illustrated. Where were the large prawns etc etc? Instead, a poor array of overcold supermarket-style freshwater shrimp (tiny and too cold to taste of anything), vinegary mussels and cockles....I could go on - you can guess the rest. The accompanying so-called 'ciabatta' had to be sent back as it was so undercooked as to be inedible. You may guess that this place will never see us again except as we walk by to go to the centre of town. What a shame.

Was walking by the Riverside on a lovely Sunday lunch and saw a lovely looking seafood board. We were greeted by friendly and attentive staff and were enticed to order the same. Upgraded the board to include 1/2 of a locally caught lobster. Perfectly washed down with a bottle of Chapel Down Bacchus from a Kentish vineyard. Only visiting for 2 days, such a shame we don't have a venue similar where we live

Average food at high prices . Steaks were tiny , chips were frozen , haddock was dry and overcooked, starter bread was inedible as too hard . At no point did we have a check back , which is a basic standard in any restaurant. Distinct lack of any service or attention to detail on a Saturday night with the place very quiet. Shame really as lovely setting and building just need more focus on the customers and make the food amazing rather than run of the mill standard

Unfortunately two of the most popular dishes had run out when we arrived which was a bit disappointing, but the burgers we ordered were delicious (if a bit of a meagre portion of chips for £15). Overall though - great food, friendly service and a really nice place to sit outside. Lovely pub - recommended!
