What a lovely pub, the staff were very friendly and would give helpful advise to all comers, dog friendly and Henry loved the treats

Lovely old pub, under new management, both Jane and mick are a joy to be around. Have had several visits, food is fab, staff are lovely.

No pool table disappointed. Manager was clearly drunk girlfriend was unstable (MENTALLY)

This is a must stop for a pint when in Sandwich! Great people, atmosphere, and the best Guinness in town! Play some darts and enjoy a beer while meeting some of the nicest people. These past reviews are different ownership completely. The new owners and staff are great!

We had a great time, everyone was super welcoming. We even had a local teach us how to use the pokies.

New management is amazing with a great service, an all round good atmosphere.

Warning do not go here. Found hairs in my food, what seemed to be a flies wing on my beer glass and aggressive staff. Plus land lady is a fat cow 🤣

*Think twice before entering* It was around 7pm on a Saturday evening and we were outside the pub about to enter when we got ‘greeted’ by a vulgar ‘woman’ who turns out to be part owner of the place…She was swearing & making threats whilst we were simply standing there asking calmly for ANY drink (even just water) as we were really thirsty and everywhere else was closed. We were staying at a local hotel and not from the area so were shocked by this treatment. This ‘woman’ called out her husband and father who were unfortunately just as agressive, it’s no surprise they’re all related. I would say they seemed under the influence of certain substances HOWEVER after reading other reviews I’m now assuming it’s just their ‘character’. The pub should honestly be shut down for safety reasons.

Went to this Shepherd Neame pub across from the bus stop. Walked-up to the bar and no one there. Then a lady got up from a table with her mates and walked behind the bar to serve me. They had three beer engines, one was not on and both of the others were Shepherd Neame Master Brew, which I don't fancy. I'd rather have real ale, but something different from what they have, so I got a Whitstable Bay Pale Ale. It cost £6.80! There were about 10 locals in there, which is fine, but honesty the number of times I heard the word @uck, I wonder if they could afford drinking there without two-tiered pricing. Lovely building. Sad it has to be run like this. I won't be back unless there are major changes.

Last time I was in here the bar staff were very rude and obnoxious. Never went in their again!! They lost my custom. Hopefully new owners will be friendly and professional. I was very glad when recent owners left

It's a very pretty, super cozy traditional pub with a fireplace. Very pleasant welcome.

If i could give a 0 or minus 5 i would . Absolutely disgusting place . Landlord and daughter is ridiculously rude obnoxious. Will never drink in here again . Diabolical customer service. Place was empty and I now know why. Went in to other surrounding pubs and all said we are not the first to have been treated so badly or experience the rudness of the landlord and daughter .

Awful staff. Me and my friends entered and bought a drink each and barely sat down and she rudely booted us out without giving reason. This is the 2nd and last time she has been rude to us. I heard from other pubs she does it a lot.

Went in to watch the football. Had 2 pints myself and 2 drinks for my partner (over £30), finished them 60 minutes into the game. 20 minutes later, a friend of the workers came up and said we need to buy a drink or leave since we’re watching their tv. Despite telling him we’d already bought multiple drinks said we’d need to get more or leave, didn’t immediately do it and he told everyone around him what we were doing, even heard the bar staff say she’d ‘back him in 100%’ so we felt guilt tripped into buying more for the sake for 10 minutes of a football game. Didn’t realise there was a rule that we needed a drink in front of us all all times

Friendly service in the centre of sandwich

I have never walked into a pub as a first timer/complete stranger and been made so welcome before. I felt like an old friend walking in after a short time away. Everyone wanted to know who I was and what my backstory was and even aided me in remembering stuff from over 50 years ago Such a nice place and will now be my first choice of place to visit next time I am in Sandwich. Thank you so much for your welcome and friendship.

Poor quality beer never even touched the pint as there was bits of what looked like yeast floating in it.Gave it back to be told there was nothing wrong with it and was bubble's never seen bubble's go down in a glass.Being a publican myself for the last 17 years and working in the pub trade for 26 I have never put up a bad message about a pub before this is how bad this experience was.

Extremely rude landlady, staff unpleasant, went out of there way to make you feel uncomfortable.Toilets were discusting felt we needed arm bands or swimming lessons to use. It was a shame, as the music was good.

Popped in on a Saturday night not to late, karaoke going on. Quiet lively only had two pints . Thatchers cider £5 a pint. Trouble with leaving down south. Barman nice and friendly.

A Great time had whilst my mate and i visited the pub in Sandwich. The staff were very friendly and helpful and v happy to help and recommend places to visit whilst visiting the area for the weekend. Will deffo visit again hopefully next month and will look forward to being welcomed again in the pub. Ronnie and Reggie 😃

Not very welcoming down to our accents as we entered to watch England game 3 hours prior. After an hour of having drinks we witnessed afood being served to the locals. To conclude, the service was very selective and missed oyt on a £400 bar bill. Sad really.

A proper boozer with a characterfull landlord . limited outdoor seating but ideal to wait for your bus with the stop outside the door.

I think a lot of reviewers live in la la land, where the pub is situated in front of two bus stops they do have to cross the line with allowing people use there toilets.. however I do know that they allow you to use them if you’re elderly , disabled or children can’t be any fairer than that in my eyes? A proper boozer, various music plays , serial tv’s for sport! A jukebox , pool table , dartboard , bar billiards .. overall there’s something to meet everyone’s needs . Beer is very nice! Made all feel welcome. Must try!

Took my mum and a friend for a bit of lunch which was delicious excellent service very welcoming thank you for a great afternoon.

Probably the worst if not the funniest pub I have been too for ages. Customer service was simply horrendous, I think the Ambulance driver thought so too. Congratulations 🎊

Got to be worth a visit if you are visiting Sandwich. Didn't get overly busy but had a good atmosphere. Saw Zero Gravity play on Saturday night. Easy access to the bar to get drinks during the evening. It is a lot larger on the inside than it looks from the outside.

Horrendous service. Walked in with a bottle of water and some chocolate (it was midday) and we were told to clear out. If you want to enjoy your pub experience don’t go here!

Its a while since I visited here and the first time with the new people and I was pleasantly surprised by the big jovial landlord and a decent pint of Spitfire "BigglesJuice". Like the previous tenants this pub is run by a family of hard working folk who probably deserve better than the small minded individuals who I see have been previous reviewers. If I still had a pub you'd be lucky to get a coffee and if you were able it would cost you £15 but with a free brandy, the only way coffee should be drunk in my book,

We went in on a Thursday lunchtime for drinks, food and to watch the rugby. My suspicions were first aroused when I asked for a coffee, to which the response was 'no, we don't do coffee, but maybe the chef will make you one when he comes in at 12'. I asked if I could pop over to Costa to bring a coffee in, to which the response was 'no, you can't do that'. We asked for food and they said 'you can have food when the chef gets in'.

For starters, anyone who complained about it being “overrun by locals” is just daft because that’s what makes a pub a pub in a town like this. I thought it added character to what would be a very quiet and possibly empty place. The service was great, we were welcomed and looked after from start to finish and to be honest it was great to hear the banter of the locals. The food served was delicious and served in a timely manner. The price for the two lunches inc drinks was under £20. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of life in your beautiful little town

Popped into this tatty run down pub before going to dinner. Bar maids rude and slovenly. Drinks expensive in dreadful glasses - absolutely nothing to say good about the place. With so many good pubs in sandwich no wonder it was empty

This was our second visit to the Market Inn - our first being about 11 months ago and the service and food has certainly improved in that time. On our first visit I would only have given them an 'Average' marking. However; it would appear that the owners have settled in, sorted staff and food quality issues out and are now worthy of a 'Very Good' in all areas.

A good place to watch the football, nice bunch of regulars. The staff are very attentive and friendly, which makes it really. Toilets could do with a light bulb though.

Walked in and the the whole pub of half a dozen including 2/3 members of staff or family went quiet and stared. Asked for pint of cider and a coke. Standard questions hardly any friendliness. Quiet atmosphere at Saturday dinner time but felt little awkward after the entrance welcome. The drinks 1 pint of cider and 1/2 coke was ok but the charges were high £7.60. glad it's not my local

We went to the Market Inn to have a few drinks and listen to the band they had playing this evening. To our surprise our friends were outside when we got there and we asked why they hadn't gone in to get a drink, they said they weren't welcome. I asked what had happened and they said they tried to order a raspberry cider, landlady said ain't got raspberry cider only fruity my friend said are you sure and the landlady said we ain't got what you want get out , I have a disability of Crone's disease and needed to use facilities asap ( this is a disease you cannot see) when walking round to the toilet the landlord asked mewhere I was going and I said to the toilet and explained why. While in the toilet the landlord came in and started banging his fist on the toilet door aggressively telling her to get out..being very angry at how she was being treated she told him to F... Off. He then followed mefrom the toilet through the bar where he told her she was banned and to get out. His wife the landlady then came and told me to get out. As a visitor to sandwich I have never witnessed such disgusting behaviour of discrimination and rudeness. I was so ashamed that visitors to Sandwich could be treated this way. Has anyone else in Sandwich suffered from their fantastic CUSTOMER SERVICE

DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB. THE STAFF AT THIS PUB WERE TERRIBLE.They are rude and obnoxious. They have no idea what customer services means. We simple ordered a drink and what came out of their vile mouths was enough to put you off. THE LANDLADY AND HUSBAND? WERE HOSTILE AND AGGRESSIVE. My fragile elderly mother wanted to go to the bathroom and they stopped her from going. They were very threatening and intimidating. We did not feel safe in their. They discriminated us! I would strongly advise not to go to this pub at all. They are mean and have no manners and they have no understanding of how to treat people. The audacity of these people! I WOULD NOT EVEN RATE THIS PUB ONE STAR!!!! i RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB.

Went there to see a band which were excellent, however the landlady was a proper moody cow, not warm and welcoming at all! I think she's in the wrong business, should try wwf, she'd fit right in, suffice to say, we won't be going back!

The barlady was hostile and rude. Nice building and potential to be a great pub. Shame it's ruined by the unwelcoming environment created by regulars and staff.

I have been coming to this pub for 27 years and have always had a great time with my husband and my sons but this year a change of management and a hostile stare on arrival. A wait to be served , when bar maid dragged herself to her feet to serve us she was rude.I put it down to perhaps a bad day but my hubby visited on his own this evening and once again the same bar maid was rude to him, Do these people not want any business?

Since Ann and Paul have taken over they have returned it to a proper town centre pub. Offering food at genuine prices, pool, darts and bar billiards. Bonus on a Sunday 17.00 - 19.00 great live music.

my wife who is elderly was caught short and went in to use the loo and was nearly attacked by the landlady shouting "are you going tobuy a drink" wound up paying 4pound for 2 cold cups of coffee just to use the loo.Will not go back there.

Since returning from uni and hearing of new management I decided to give the market inn another try. Massively impressed! The new owners are personable and hugely welcoming. Ate there for the first time the other day and again I was thoroughly impressed, good food and good portions. Will returning here for sure! Prices are reasonable, especially compared with other pubs in the area.

Dropped back in after change of managers, much better atmosphere and service. Prices have been adjusted slightly down and quality of wine improved.

Nothing special to commend this place except the Shepherd Neame beer which was excellent as usual. Seems to have strong local custom but not over welcoming to new customers.

Old landlords have bearly been gone a week can't believe how much it's gone down already. New landlady has already upset people with her attitude shame used too be the best pub in sandwich.

As my usual pub was shut, we walked into this amazing pub, as they were happy to let our chameleon curly in, we ordered food to find incredibaly tasty and fresh food quickly served by very friendly staff, very pleasent suroundings no airs and graces, just good honest hospitality will gaurantee to visit again soon,

Popped in for lunch today. Dog friendly which is nice. Member of staff was very nice. Burger was delicious. Food was hot. Have been in before with previous landlord. Would definitely order the burger again.

We popped in here on the off chance thinking we may have missed lunch as it was nearly two thirty. However, we were warmly greeted and informed that the kitchen was open until three. We chose a table and ordered drinks and given the menu in a friendly and efficient manner. Our drinks were served to the table and our order taken. I had a delicious chicken curry and my partner had stir fry king prawns which was also delicious and had plenty of prawns. Good value and an enjoyable experience. A lucky find.

Once again the best pub in Sandwich. New tenants have transformed this old hostelry and put back the style which had been removed by the previous tenants. A great welcome. Fast friendly service. An upmarket menu, but well priced, and my Amex card welcome! Perhaps just a tweak to the wine list?

Poor poor backward food rubbish

choice of food was ok on menu but veggie burger was sold out and veggie replacement was rubbish. Also fish and chips was poor my salad was ok. the town was busy but in a large place like this you expect better. Waitress apologised as we had to wait for sauces and vinegar, staff was ok.

We had a great evening at this pub, the food was first class and the entertainment was fabulous there was a young female vocalist called Phoebe Rose, a unbelievable talented performer. It was well worth the visit.

What a friendly family run pub. Absolutely charming staff and service. The peri peri prawns were delicious and the steak and ale pie was melt in the mouth.

My husband and I popped into The market inn for a quick drink whilst staying in Sandwich for the evening. We were greeted by a lovely friendly barmaid who made us feel right at home. ( her name may of been Chloe ) She chatted to us along with some of the regulars. Only here for a small amount of time. But the experience was very pleasant. Well done.
