A lovely place to sit outside and loose the afternoon,great garden

Absolutely fabulous roast dinner; hands down the best roast beef I’ve had. Proper little country pub with a cosy, friendly and homely atmosphere. Would 100% recommend, and definitely book in advance. Thank you all so much, we shall be back!

A pub with tradition but up to date. There is a beer garden at the front and back. There is a rustic atmosphere inside. Normal pub menu. Very good fish & chips. The house burger tastes good, but at around £18 it should be a little bigger. For beer I recommend the house lager. Friendly service. Unusual and therefore only four stars: cash has not been accepted since July 1st, 2024.

The inn looks beautiful, I really would have liked to eat there. According their online information they serve hot food until 9 pm, we arrived shortly after 8 pm (8:05-8:10). Kitchen already closed, so we had to leave hungry.

Super nice / old (1610) pub just outside of Dover. Great front and rear beer garden and really cosy interior. Food was nice but a little expensive. Penne n cheese had way too much truffle oil in it. If you use macaroni then you can call in Mac n Cheese.

Classic English pub style, good traditional food

I've never been in a place so beautiful and cozy like this pub. Service amazing, the staff amazing, toilets clean, don't even make me start on the food, even better! If you're feeling that you want to sit outside, no problem! Very nice garden with plenty of seats and fresh air.

The only pub I will go to repeatedly! The atmosphere, drinks and food is amazing and the best i’ve experienced! All the staff are lovely. A plus on the decor and the bread is to die for, a must try. Update: the food is 11/10 couldn’t be any better, beats anything else I have ate!!

Just had a fantastic roast dinner here and will definitely be returning! The starters were delicious and the beef and pork were both excellent, as were the trimmings. Plenty of gravy was served with the roast so no extra was needed (and I ALWAYS end up requesting more!) and was seasoned to perfection. A beautiful meal in a picturesque setting with delightful staff, gorgeous gardens and traditional interior decor.

Called at 3:30 PM to see if we could go for dinner (on Sunday). That was possible. If only we could get there before 6pm. We were there at 5:05 PM but had to order immediately and could only order a main course. We asked if we could have something to drink first, but the food came very quickly. The cook apparently wanted to go home early. The risotto under the salmon was not warm. We did not feel welcome, which is a shame... we had to pay £78 for 2 (not the most expensive on the menu) main courses, 3 half beers and 1 wine. Disappointed!

Unfortunately we didn't have time to eat, but the service was good and the atmosphere was friendly. This is a friendly authentic old world pub serving good food in somewhat dark surroundings, overall a good experience which we'll be repeating soon.

An amazingly atmospheric traditional English country pub, serving good food and drinks in historic and characterful surroundings. Something of a 'hidden gem' that feels like arriving at a bygone age but still retaining every modern convenience. Highly recommended.

We went to this pub for a meal as it is close to home, but soon changed my mind , what a dark dingy place, they might as well paint the walls black.The food was definitely not a la carte. The salmon was overcooked and greasy and the fish fingers were mainly batter. No Italian Pinot grigio, so I tried a different white wine £11.50 a glass. What a ridiculous price to charge. We also ordered a brandy and ginger ale, but we got a can of ginger beer ??? Then when the bill came, we got charged £14 for service ???? DONT go here it's definitely not worth it. Much nicer pubs out there.

What a great place to eat and drink, just moved to this area so was highly delighted to find we had such a lovely local, food excellent, just wish they would consider doing more Gluten Free food? Like most places they do very little?? If any, apart from the risotto I had last Friday, yummy everyone’s meal was yummy, you can adapt almost any meal to be GF . Will return soon. How can you do a vegan wellington?? Why do vegans want something that looks like meat?? You could make it gF?? Son in law had burger loved it.

Our 1st visit of many, we hope, now we have purchased a holiday home nearby. A beautiful olde world pub. We met an interesting customer who filled us in on his family history( grandson of Fredrick Simms) before we had even ordered drinks . Pub cat (can't remember his name) sleeping on a chair. We didn't eat but the food we saw looked very nice. Under £12 for a pint and a medium wine, which we thought was fair. Just want to add that the candle holder made me think of the nursery rhyme wee Willie winkle 😂😂

Family outing for a Mothers day lunch. How they coped with so many customers was simply amazing. The food was absolutely superb and we had an excellent time. many thanks

Had a lovely Mother’s Day lunch. Food was lovely and hot the only thing we had to wait quite awhile but worth waiting for lot off it couldn’t have pudding too full up would go back again

Slightly pricey, eg 2 glasses of 'house' wine the waiter brought was £22.00, but that is not what I am concerned about. When presented with the bill an additional £14.50 'service charge' had been added unbeknown to me as it was not show on the menu prices. When I queried it I was told the system automatically added it and it was not required as it was optional, so could be removed (if you noticed it). I did remove it as the service was not exactly exeptional. I wonder how many miss that addition. Whilst it was resolved, it should not have been added in the first instance without making me aware there was an optional charge.

What a beautiful pub, inside and out. Fantastic service too. Hugely welcoming bar staff. Even made our dog welcome with a fresh bowl of water. Good ale and cider selection and the food looked amazing. Will definitely return, hopefully in the sun so we can enjoy the beer garden.

Best Sunday roast “experience” we’ve had. The staff, especially Teresa were welcoming attentive and wonderful. They really made our day. The food was incredible, you certainly get what you pay for. Will be returning shortly.

What an absolute gem of a place. My partner and I were driving back from Deal, after having help her move out and as usual my partner decided to take a little drive around. He was hoping to find that place he used to go camping with his friends when he was a teenager. We find it, find what used to be the pub he remembered, but it had been changed into a home. Then, we saw that really small sign for The Lantern Inn, and there it was, this 17th century pub, looking just like it would have done when first built, once inside, it was just like walking back in time. The decor was so English pub feels, the personnel are so friendly, and the food is just 5* - finally a place that serve my prosecco to the top of the glass. Candle lit dinner we ended up having. The menu is just enough to satisfy your craving... There was a choice of steaks, vegan burgers and meat burgers, and others. We left very satisfied customers... But after driving all the way back home to Ashford, I realised I had left my handbag. As soon as I called and mentioned it was the couple who just add dinner, straight away, they recognised who it was and had already find it and put it aside for collection. In the end, we decided to return the next day to have roast dinner with some friends. And oh my goodness, what a roast it was... Our pork was cooked to perfection, moist, tasty, and the crackling was so tasty and crunchy. All was so delicious that I could eat there daily....

Small pub/restaurant. Ate Sunday lunch here with family. The owners and staff are fantastic and the decor is a lot of fun as well. They have a small kitchen so the food takes a little time to appear. Sunday portions are right-sized so although I wanted more meat and food I got the right portion. Not as keen on the larger beet offering among the roast veggies hence the 4-star rating. Would recommend.

Visited for food and a couple of nights in the self-catering accommodation above the pub. The apartment is furnished in a very "interesting" way with period pieces, artwork, and antiques. You will either love it or be alarmed by it. Perhaps have a look at some pictures before you book? Heating fine (although we did have to set the clock on the central heating so that it came on at the programmed times), beds comfortable (but a rather heavy duvet), lighting a bit dim for reading (but plenty of books available), nice kitchen (but rather short on crockery etc., and surprisingly no place that four people could sit to eat any food prepared). Nice pub (and cat) with cocktails and well-cared-for beer. Food hearty (at a full price).

I was fortunate today to be treated to a lovely lunch at The Lantern, by wonderful friends. The food was excellent, the staff were brilliant, Joe in particular was attentive, friendly and professional and the building is so historic, I was hoping the walls could actually talk ! Great atmosphere, roaring log fire, comfy and cosy in beautiful countryside, even on a wet, windy January day. A real olde worlde English country pub. The perfect way to while away a few hours - good friends and good food. What else can you ask for?

What a great little pub. Such a cosy n warm atmosphere, from families with children dining to couples tucked away in little nooks of the pub with candles lit making such pretty.little areas. Food was amazing as was the service. We will definitely be returning to try out the roast which also sounds an looks like it's going to be a hit.

Best pub I have been. Amazing place, cozy, great music and the food was fantastic. Joe looked after us incredibly well, how he managed to serve everyone by himself was beyond us. Please make a trip to this pub, you will not be disappointed.

We have a few birthdays in our family around Christmas so we thought we’d treat the family to a meal out to celebrate . There were 13 of us and we went for a Sunday Roast . We all enjoyed the lovely food / drinks and had a great evening . The staff were helpful and friendly and there was great Motown/ soul music playing in the background what more could you ask for .

We were a party of 20, the team were so accommodating, and worked out the best way for us to all be seated. We went on a Sunday so had the roast which was delicious. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, and great food!!!!!! Would really recommend

Expected more for the price. Friendly and very dog friendly staff. Slow service as seemed only 2 of the staff were doing all the work. Lamb roast was more fat than meat Chicken roast was better but fiddly getting the meat off the bones. They both had good veg however with the limited meat they were not worth the price. Coffee unfortunately wasn’t any good either. Service charge added which we felt wasn’t justified Small and limited car park.

I had a wonderful time at the Lantern Inn. Great food, great service, and an adorable cat called Boris. I look forward to returning for another visit!!

We live locally and we're looking for a new pub to meet in, for our Sunday afternoon drinks. So, we decided to try the Lantern. What a mistake. No welcome when we entered (4 of us) when trying to order, most of our initial requests were met with, "We don't have it or just run out". Atmosphere 0, the Guy behind the bar was more interested in their cat which was sitting on the bar !! There were 2girls who tried to help but were asked to carry on with thier duties by the manager/ owner, and once we received our drinks they were very expensive compared to ALL the other local hostelries. A couple of ladies walked in asked for a menu and after some time left as they had been totally ignored !!!

What an odd experience! Originally treated like I wasn't expected to be there to essentially forgotten about..in the end we just walked out, due to a lack of communication....

Als wir den Pub betraten, begrüßte uns der Besitzer mit Handschlag und danach waren wir sofort auf Vornamenbasis. Er nahm sich sogar Zeit für etwas Smalltalk - sehr unterhaltsam und persönlich. Obwohl wir außerhalb der Öffnungszeiten der Küche dort waren, konnten wir dennoch volle Mahlzeiten bestellen, als wir erzählten, dass wir gerade von einem Tagesausflug nach Dover zurück kamen. Wir bestellten Lantern Burger und Edward berichtete, dass wir auf jeden Fall Bio-Fleisch bekämen - und davon reichlich. Diese Wahl haben wir nicht bereut, denn diese Burger waren einfach großartig! Absolut lecker und dazu geschmackvoll und originell angerichtet. Wir verbrachten einen tollen Nachmittag in diesem urgemütlichen Pub und empfehlen diese Adresse gerne weiter.

Best place on earth. Literally. Food is amazing. The apartment is wonderfully comfortable and so typical, but you can also spot some delightful details that show the cure and the creativity of those who built it. I ate the best mushrooms risotto ever. And I'm Italian.

Great Sunday lunch for two tiday

This place was not what we were expecting inside, it was small and really quirky. I thought the drinks were great but it felt that they were not too keen on our dogs being there so we left after a drink. Great place to visit though

The best Sunday dinner in Kent by a country mile. Not cheap but worth every penny. Staff are polite and very friendly. Not sure what else to say perfection !

Roast had super depth of flavours, not much meat small little slices of perfect cooked beef. Think our food went to another table ( they didn't order pigs in blankets) hence 4 stars also was a tad on the expensive side for a roast. The entry level red and white wine, vin du pay herault where good value and tasty £24. Ps roast has gone up £10 quid since last year . £55 quid per head. But as you know fuel food wages have all increased. Makes hospitality tough.

This is a lovely pub close to the Kent coast. Whilst it’s modernised it has kept its 17th century traditional feel. The rooms are well presented clean and spacious and there is a wonderful garden out the back. The staff are immensely friendly and welcoming. Andy the landlord has thought about everything to a meticulous nature and has some fantastic artwork in the pub. Be sure to have some of the locally sourced food and meet with the locals who are great fun. A cider with Rosie is a must. Overall excellent experience and will definitely visit again.

It was our first visit to the Lantern to meet up with some dear friends. The food was lovely and so was the atmosphere. We were greeted by the barman who was very friendly and upbeat. We never felt rushed even at the end when they were closing. Atmosphere was as we’d hoped, a local happy and friendly environment. Definitely worth checking out.

The Lantern Inn, near Dover. Outstanding in every way. Disclaimer: I know one of the owners. The pub itself is a delightful olde worlde pub with oodles of charm. Very stylish interior and a gorgeous beer garden with large covered area. All very aesthetically pleasing. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming. The service was exceptional. Nice range of beers and a good wine list. Sunday roast: The chef is clearly a roast lover. We had pork belly which came rolled, with good crackling plus extra crackling. Melt in the mouth meat. Friends had the sharing tomahawk (beef) roast which looked amazing. Apparently the chicken was really good too. Veg: carrot, parsnip, green beans and cabbage - all perfect. Good Yorky. Potatoes were delicious. Gravy was to die for - we ended up drinking it out of the boat. Sides: Cauli cheese was nice n cheesy. Really tasty stuffing and nice pigs in blankets. 10/10. Couldn’t manage dessert, but had a lovely espresso martini from their great-looking cocktail menu. Accommodation: On top of all that, they also have various accommodations you can stay in: a yurt, a gypsy caravan, an airstream and a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment upstairs. So at the end of a nice boozy afternoon it’s not far to crawl into bed. Overall experience 11/10. We shall be returning very soon.

Food was very good. I had the roast chicken and really enjoyed the dish. My wife on the other hand although enjoying hers, ordered the cauliflower roast. It was not a good sized portion like my chicken and was very very overpriced for hat it was. The food took about 50 minutes to arrive (table of 6), we didn't order starters and the children were getting quite hungry. We also had a long journey home so the delay wasn't ideal. Inside the little room by the corridor to the toilets we felt a bit forgotten about, hence the overall 3 star rating even though my food was probably a 4.2. Something interesting about this place. There is an old smugglers tunnel that runs underneath the pub and you'll see bones through a glass panel under the bar!

Shame. People were nice, but the wait for food was too long, then when it arrived everything was overcooked, gravy was nearly spilt over everybody, service charge is automatically added, very expensive for what it was and the roasted cauliflower was extremely overpriced.

Fantastische plek om heerlijk te eten, achter het restaurant/kroeg nog een grote tuin. Gastheer uitermate vriendelijk, geweldige sfeer in het cafe binnen. De moeite waard om te bezoeken.

We absolutely LOVED this place. It's a quirky little Inn with the most fabulous restaurant and a cute outdoor seating area. The food was delicious, nicely presented, the service exceptional and even snuck in dessert because we just had to taste it. If you are in the Dover area this is an absolute must.

Shocking service. Went with a group for a baby shower and only my meal didn’t come out, I was told mine would take longer because they were busy but later found out it was not put on the order. In the restaurant for nearly two hours without food and the rest of the party had eaten and finished and after requesting 3 times and being told it still hadn’t been requested by staff cancelled my meal and didn’t eat. no apology or explanation from staff and they avoided us for the rest of the sitting with no updates.

A truly wonderful place to eat and while away a few hours with fantastic food, wine and great cocktails. The staff are just wonderful - the right side of attentiveness, leaving enough time for you to browse and choose from the menu, and thereafter appearing just when you need them! The decor is refined, yet a cosy and confident space to relax - in all seasons. We haven’t experienced the garden - but we plan to very soon. Overall, a must visit if you are visiting the area

Korzystaliśmy z noclegu w mieszkaniu nad pubem. Niestety zdjęcia nie oddają faktycznego stanu mieszkania znajdującego się nad głośnym angielskim pubem. Przydałoby się odkurzyć ten butikowy lokal, mieliśmy wrażenie, że kurz pochodzi jeszcze z XVII wieku. Poza tym ciekawie urządzone mieszkanie, ale nie dało się nawet chwili spędzić na sofie w salonie, bo za oknem huczał wielki wentylator. Z kolei od frontu cały czas był włączony klimatyzator. Cena noclegu niestety sugeruje inna jakość oferowanej usługi. Spaliśmy w innych miejscach w Anglii i Szkocji, wszędzie cena była dużo niższa za zdecydowanie wyższą jakość noclegu ze śniadaniem.

Best roast dinner in Kent. Had a fabulous dinner today. We were accommodated last minute and it was a wonderful experience. The decor and restaurant itself is quirky and beautiful. The staff are incredibly friendly and so helpful. I’m pregnant and find that many venues have limited drink options, the lovely team made me a stunning mocktail, which I really appreciated. Then the food, was a cut above many other local restaurants. We were very impressed by the standard of yumminess and will 100% be back soon. Thank you to the entire team at The Lantern. We highly recommend a visit.

The Lantern Inn, is a tip top pub. The pub is very unique, the decor is excellent and atmosphere is very special. The staff are super friendly and the food delicious. The beer garden is a great space on a sunny day (also has a good chunk covered by a cool Gazebo just in case it rains or you need shade) and we loved the wood oven fired pizza's too. We stayed in the Yurt which is a lot of fun. Would totally recommend for a dinner, drinks and night out.

Stunning traditional pub tucked away in the depths of the countryside but LESS THAN 1hr from London! The atmosphere and decor is so warm and unique! Food was amazing and less than £40 for dinner and multiple drinks/bottles of wine! Pub garden is also huge, with friendly fun locals and really friendly and helpful staff! We stayed in the apartment upstairs while some friends stayed in the yurt. Both accommodations were amazing! Glad I was in the apartment with the blackout curtains but the yurt was such a vibe I would love to go cook and stay a night in there too!

Absolutely charming must experience pub! Travel and stay worthy. My friends and I stayed at The Lantern Inn upstairs in their beautiful and yurt in the back garden. Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The staff were charming, friendly, attentive, always going above and beyond to help our large group as well as us individually when we split off. We had dinner which had a wonderful atmosphere, delicious food with a varied menu. The food was clearly locally sourced, which was confirmed by the staff, due to the flavoursome nature of the ingredients. Lastly the beer garden was perfect location for a brief respite in the summer the summer sun post dinner before we moved onto further entertainment. This is the type of place very much worth travelling to and even staying for a nice break. Will be back again soon.

We had a fabulous time and stayed overnight in the apartment. It was a stunning setting with great character. The host was both charming, entertaining and kind. Cannot wait to stay again. Dinner was delicious
