The best Sunday dinner in Kent by a country mile. Not cheap but worth every penny. Staff are polite and very friendly. Not sure what else to say perfection ! Been back today, first time in a few months and sad to say not quite as good as I remember, not bad but not perfection. It was just missing something. And lacked a decent vegetarian option and no fish.

The staff at the Lantern are incredibly friendly and helpful, we booked for Sunday lunch for 29 people just a week before and they were so accommodating! We were put up in the garden under a beautifully decorated marque, the food was delicious and all our friends were very happy with the service! The children enjoyed playing in the spooky Halloween house! As we we were staying nearby we went back with a smaller group for dinner one evening. Again the food was excellent and staff friendly and helpful! The pub itself is so cosy and unique, we loved it and will go back in the future!

The chef couldnt cook frozen breaded squid , it was burnt and rubberised, I sent it back and was told that's how it is. We also had to wait for one starter as they forgot it . The roast arrived swimming in gravy with a limp Yorkshire. Then the desert we all order brownies but had never seen one like this it was covered in chocolate with what I would call uncooked dough inside that was so sweet more something you would have a piece of . I can't see how any chef can get so much wrong on a Sunday roast with only 2 option of starter and dessert. It was the worst I have ever tasted and at £29 for a beef roast that was like a school dinner .we certainly would not recommend while they have this chef . The staff were nice and reduced the bill drastically.

We turned up to a lovely pub, the setting was beautiful. My partner and I visited this pub 2 Years ago and it was unreal! So we decided to mention to my parents about coming here. So we did and what a mistake that was. To start the starters, only of two. One being the squid which was horrific! Like chewing a burnt chicken nugget, two the creamy mushrooms which was like a tin on toast! The toast came which was “OK” cauliflower cheese was like water. When mentioned this got told they had run out of normal milk so used almond milk??? Glad I’m not intolerant to nuts but if someone had of been, that would have not been pleasant. Then come to the dessert, we all had brownie, raved up by one of the waitresses. This wasn’t as brownie this was more like a fudge! Really gutted and won’t be going back in a rush! Only good thing. Was unfortunately didn’t get his name, was really accommodating and took off certain things From the bill

Food. Five people attending. We ate at 7.30 pm on a Saturday evening. There were 6 items on the main menu. They had run out of cod, i.e., fish and chips, but offered sea bass as a replacement ?2 rib-eyed steaks ordered as medium well done. One came as medium rare. Burgers were good. No squid, which was also on the menu for starters, but white bait offered as a replacement . Only ice cream variations for dessert. We asked for the possibility of a cheese selection. They returned from the kitchen and offered chedder, goats cheese, and brie, but no crackers - however offered bread. Service charge was an automatic 12.5%. Atmosphere. Ok.

It's a very old pub with low ceilings very oldie worldly. Welcomed by staff when entered. My wife ordered the lamb roast I had the steak. Presentation was good. The lamb leg was very fatty which my wife couldn't eat my steak was done ok, the vegetables were not so good I'm afraid the potatoes were over cooked instead of cutting into them you had to saw them the green beans were rubbery the cabbage was white cabbage a bit hard the roast parsnips and carrots were good and tasty also the Yorkshire puddings were good, but the dishes were too salty. We then had Eaton mess again the dish tasted very tart and tasted very shop bought ingredients. I'm sorry to say the whole experience was not good and the ingredients tasted very much like shop bought ingredients. For the price I was expecting a properly cooked experience I'm afraid I won't be attending this place again

We were there at 5:05 PM but had to order immediately and could only order a main course. We asked if we could have something to drink first, but the food came very quickly. The cook apparently wanted to go home early. The risotto under the salmon was not warm. We did not feel welcome, which is a shame... we had to pay £78 for 2 (not the most expensive on the menu) main courses, 3 half beers and 1 wine. Disappointed!

We went to this pub for a meal as it is close to home, but soon changed my mind , what a dark dingy place, they might as well paint the walls black. The food was definitely not a la carte. The salmon was overcooked and greasy and the fish fingers were mainly batter. No Italian Pinot grigio, so I tried a different white wine £11.50 a glass. What a ridiculous price to charge. We also ordered a brandy and ginger ale, but we got a can of ginger beer ??? Then when the bill came, we got charged £14 for service ???? DONT go here it's definitely not worth it. Slightly pricey, eg 2 glasses of 'house' wine the waiter brought was £22.00, but that is not what I am concerned about. When presented with the bill an additional £14.50 'service charge' had been added unbeknown to me as it was not show on the menu prices. When I queried it I was told the system automatically added it and it was not required as it was optional, so could be removed (if you noticed it). I did remove it as the service was not exactly exeptional. I wonder how many miss that addition. Whilst it was resolved, it should not have been added in the first instance without making me aware there was an optional charge.

What an absolute gem of a place. My partner and I were driving back from Deal, after having help her move out and as usual my partner decided to take a little drive around. He was hoping to find that place he used to go camping with his friends when he was a teenager. We find it, find what used to be the pub he remembered, but it had been changed into a home. Then, we saw that really small sign for The Lantern Inn, and there it was, this 17th century pub, looking just like it would have done when first built, once inside, it was just like walking back in time. The decor was so English pub feels, the personnel are so friendly, and the food is just 5* - finally a place that serve my prosecco to the top of the glass. Candle lit dinner we ended up having. The menu is just enough to satisfy your craving... There was a choice of steaks, vegan burgers and meat burgers, and others. We left very satisfied customers... But after driving all the way back home to Ashford, I realised I had left my handbag. As soon as I called and mentioned it was the couple who just add dinner, straight away, they recognised who it was and had already find it and put it aside for collection. In the end, we decided to return the next day to have roast dinner with some friends. And oh my goodness, what a roast it was... Our pork was cooked to perfection, moist, tasty, and the crackling was so tasty and crunchy. All was so delicious that I could eat there daily....

Visited for food and a couple of nights in the self-catering accommodation above the pub. The apartment is furnished in a very "interesting" way with period pieces, artwork, and antiques. You will either love it or be alarmed by it. Perhaps have a look at some pictures before you book? Heating fine (although we did have to set the clock on the central heating so that it came on at the programmed times), beds comfortable (but a rather heavy duvet), lighting a bit dim for reading (but plenty of books available), nice kitchen (but rather short on crockery etc., and surprisingly no place that four people could sit to eat any food prepared). Nice pub (and cat) with cocktails and well-cared-for beer. Food hearty (at a full price).

No welcome when we entered (4 of us) when trying to order, most of our initial requests were met with, "We don't have it or just run out". Atmosphere 0, the Guy behind the bar was more interested in their cat which was sitting on the bar !! There were 2girls who tried to help but were asked to carry on with thier duties by the manager/ owner, and once we received our drinks they were very expensive compared to ALL the other local hostelries. Roast had super depth of flavours, not much meat small little slices of perfect cooked beef. Think our food went to another table ( they didn't order pigs in blankets) hence 4 stars also was a tad on the expensive side for a roast. The entry level red and white wine, vin du pay herault where good value and tasty £24. Ps roast has gone up £10 quid since last year . £55 quid per head. But as you know fuel food wages have all increased. Makes hospitality tough.

The Lantern Inn, near Dover. Outstanding in every way. Disclaimer: I know one of the owners. The pub itself is a delightful olde worlde pub with oodles of charm. Very stylish interior and a gorgeous beer garden with large covered area. All very aesthetically pleasing. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming. The service was exceptional. Nice range of beers and a good wine list. Sunday roast: The chef is clearly a roast lover. We had pork belly which came rolled, with good crackling plus extra crackling. Melt in the mouth meat. Friends had the sharing tomahawk (beef) roast which looked amazing. Apparently the chicken was really good too. Veg: carrot, parsnip, green beans and cabbage - all perfect. Good Yorky. Potatoes were delicious. Gravy was to die for - we ended up drinking it out of the boat. Sides: Cauli cheese was nice n cheesy. Really tasty stuffing and nice pigs in blankets. 10/10. Couldn’t manage dessert, but had a lovely espresso martini from their great-looking cocktail menu. Accommodation: On top of all that, they also have various accommodations you can stay in: a yurt, a gypsy caravan, an airstream and a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment upstairs. So at the end of a nice boozy afternoon it’s not far to crawl into bed. Overall experience 11/10. We shall be returning very soon.

Food was very good. I had the roast chicken and really enjoyed the dish. My wife on the other hand although enjoying hers, ordered the cauliflower roast. It was not a good sized portion like my chicken and was very very overpriced for hat it was. The food took about 50 minutes to arrive (table of 6), we didn't order starters and the children were getting quite hungry. We also had a long journey home so the delay wasn't ideal. Inside the little room by the corridor to the toilets we felt a bit forgotten about, hence the overall 3 star rating even though my food was probably a 4.2. Something interesting about this place. There is an old smugglers tunnel that runs underneath the pub and you'll see bones through a glass panel under the bar!

Shame. People were nice, but the wait for food was too long, then when it arrived everything was overcooked, gravy was nearly spilt over everybody, service charge is automatically added, very expensive for what it was and the roasted cauliflower was extremely overpriced.

This was an absolute gem to find on our travels. The pub is absolutely stunning with a great pub garden. The inside is very quirky and it certainly achieves its country pub vibe. The food was great and the staff are so friendly. I can’t wait to come back.

Really cute pub, with lovely fairy lights inside and a nice big garden at the back. The service is fab, friendly and helpful. Good price for the drinks and food. The food isn’t fancy, but we had a tasty big plate of scampi and chips.

17 year old ‘Bouncer’ was loudly making rude comments about my wife to the bartender. Seating and furniture tired and uncomfortable.
