We stayed in one of the balcony rooms, the room was huge with lovely decor. There was a big bath in the room. We had a balcony right by the beach which was also lovely. I would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

My partner and I wanted to get some breakfast. We stood by the bar waiting for one of the 3 staff , a young guy behind the bar and 2 women , one younger , one older with tied up blonde hair to acknowledge us. They looked at us , but did not say anything like can we help or we will be with shortly. They just carried on with whatever they were doing and after a few minutes of this it was clear none of them were at all interested. Also it wasn’t as if they were busy with other customers. So my partner and I took our appetite elsewhere and certainly will not consider the Royal for a meal in future.

We chose this hotel for its stunning location and chose one of the balcony rooms (Nelson) which are just gorgeous. A beautiful room with a large balcony and a fabulous view right onto the sea. We've marked it down because for £320 a night in late September, we find it badly needed an update. The carpet is very worn and stained, there was mould in the shower, some chipped paint and the one armchair quite worn and saggy. Comfortable bed though. We don't expect luxury in a three star hotel, but we do expect clean and fresh. It's still a nice experience but represents poor value at the price. Friendly and helpful staff and a very good breakfast. Owners - please give this lovely hotel some TLC!

Very disappointed, we had the fisherman's board. Cold gritty prawns for £24 - you would expect some decent selection and variety but sadly was just awful. Plain salad and sauces from a bottle. Only saving grace was kids enjoyed their meal which was just standard sausage and mash. Missed opportunity as it's located in a nice spot in Deal.

For a long time we'd been looking forward to spending a few days at the Royal Hotel In Deal. And, at last, we have just done that. I'm sorry to say that our treatmentt was not regal. We had a £300 a night "premium" room with a balcony overlooking the beach, sea and pier. It looked ideal. But, it wasn't. In the hot weather we had to keep cool by keeping the balcony doors open day and night. (There was no air-conditioning, no fan). But from morning til night there was plenty of noise. Most from the hotel's terrace and bar which was beneath our balcony where drinkers and diners ate and drank until late Our bathroom was tiny. So small, that the bath was installed in our bedroom's fireplace! The bed was not comfortable - no feather pillows or spring mattress like we have at home. The most frustrating problem was the erratic internet signal. Some times it flickered into life but most of the time it failed us. As a stockmarket investor I need to spend several hours a day monitoring my share portfolio. The solution? Trekking down to the Costa Coffee in the High Street with my computer, paper, etc. A manager repeatedly told me there would be compensation from the hotel and their internet provider. But when I checked out after our three night stay not a penny nor an apology was offered. In fact, they'd taken the full cost of £783 when we'd checked in. We won't stay in a Shepherd-Neame hotel again. Our favourite Kent stop-over is The Lodge in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral - welcoming, professional and 4 stars but much cheaper than the three star Royal, It's heavenly!

Me and my family visited this hotel for the first time. We shared a family room and it was very comfortable. The room was called clarence.I would say though it could be cleaned a bit better. The ceiling needed hoovering to take the dust away that was dangling from the ceiling. And the bed needed moving to clean under neath it properly. The bathroom was clean but the shower didn't have much pressure so showering wasn't enjoyable. The best thing about the room was the view which was beautiful and the coffee machine. We enjoyed a very scrumptious breakfast which could not be faulted at all! The vegan breakfast was absolutely delicious! The fruit that was offered was lovely and fresh and the pastries were lovely too. I ordered a Latte and that was so tasty had to have another one! Apart from the small things mentioned above I very much enjoyed my stay hence why I have rated my experience a 5 star!

Ordered a pot of tea for one and breakfast bap. Asked for crispy bacon. Can’t go wrong with tea but the bap was disgusting. The ‘ crispy bacon’ was precooked and then deep fried! It was solid and the fat was full of hard grease , unable to bite into it. I removed it to find the sausage was really cheap and mushy inside ( didn’t seem as if there was any meat in it) . I gave that to my dog but I wouldn’t even feed the bacon to a seagull. There were only 6 people in the restaurant, it was 9.25 am so as a non resident it would have been nice to have a freshly cooked bap ! The only part fresh was the fried egg. Never again .

Succes!

Absolutely horrific avoid at all costs, Service, something to be desired. Before seated got asked for drinks, only just walked in the building. Waited 20 minutes, got fed up and went and got my own menu. Waited another 10 minutes before a server came over (I counted 5 in the restaurant, must have been a super busy Wednesday) when there was 3 tables seated. Food was ok, requested a caesar salad as alternatives to chips with the steak. Once food was placed, again the servers must have been run off their feet as next interaction was 20 minutes later, after food was finished. The food was wrong but at this point could have eaten a scabby horse, to be told by the server I was wrong about a brown lettuce caesar salad, and that it had been eaten anyway. Food ok, service absolutely horrific, disappointing.

Brunch food was nice and staff attentive. Ok, I went for dinner with my mother, who is 91, I had the crab and sourdough, which was acceptable. However, mother had the pork escalope, and to put it mildly it was revolting! Dry and tough, possibly a lunch leftover!!! We told the waitress, and she apologised but still charged us full amount even though she had left 2 thirds of it on the plate!!! The venue is in a brilliant position, but the food has gone downhill. I went to the royal for coffee and catch up with friends. I waited at the bar area to order some drinks. As there was no bar staff anywhere to be seen I asked the waitress if anyone was serving, her reply was “it doesn’t look like it”. So I asked her how do we order drinks to which she replied “you don’t”. If the restaurant/bar area is table service only maybe put some signs up to inform customers of this or even train you smart mouth staff better customer service. Needless to say I took my custom elsewhere to a much more friendly establishment.

Lots of things were wern’t on the menu, even the soup. It seemed the only things they had in was frozen. Very disappointing to see at least 5/6 dishes not on the menu, no wonder the resturant was empty. Starters were fine, me and my partner both had mussels and they completely lacked any taste. There was no garlic or any seasoning and the leeks in the sauce had gone off and black. £18.50 for mussels with no chips one slice of bread is a rip off in my opinion Service was non existent tbh, waitresses need to have lessons on how to smile. They also don’t seem to have any dress code, all wearing whatever they wish, half of them looked like they worked at JD sports rather than a restaurant. Can’t find any reason to recommend this place.

I really have thought long and hard about how to write this review. Firstly, the place is clean and very dog friendly and in the summer, it's location right on the beach makes this a must visit. The staff are friendly enough, although one does talk to you through grated teeth but they are constantly having loud, almost shouty conversations with each other, even when the bar eating area is very quiet and it kinda spoils the meal. This can be avoided by going in the restaurant area (also dog friendly) The chef may indeed be very talented but he cannot seem to cook anything without garlic in, leaving very little choice for anyone who doesn't like the aptly named stinking herb or indeed me (allergic) It is in literally everything so I was left with fish and chips. The pea puree that came with this was gorgeous, making me suspect that this chef knows what he is doing. I could possibly have had the burger but as he also adds garlic to all sauces and mayos on the menu, I was a little concerned. It should be noted however that presentation is great. I know lots if people love garlic but I've never had such a limited choice, even in Italians. I did ask if they would cook a sauce without garlic and he wouldn't or couldn't. As it is such an overpowering taste, maybe the chef needs to stop hiding behind it. He is obviously better than this!

Food was delicious but one point - I had the jolly hog sausage sandwich whole meal bread, which although really tasty, fell apart before it got to my mouth ! Suggestion: would be better if served in either a roll or 1/2 baguette. Also, my wife, who is disabled would like to have the mirror in the disabled toilet lowered about 1ft as she found it difficult to see more than the top of her head.. Other than those two points — EXCELLENT.

Went with hubby, table booked for 8pm. Had our mains, everything fine. Came and cleared the plates, then we waited, restaurant wasn’t busy I might add and there were sufficient staffing numbers. After about 15 minutes we politely asked for the dessert menu. After about another 10 minutes someone came to take our order. By this time there’s only us and one other couple and it’s about 9:15 pm. Another 15 minutes go by, no sign of our dessert so we called the waitress over and she said she’d go check. She came back very apologetically and told us the kitchen was closed!, what?… by now it’s just us, all the other customers have gone. Seeing our displeasure the manager came racing over and said can I offer you an ice cream or a coffee on the house? We declined and asked for the bill. How an earth did no one know the kitchen was closed, and letting us sit their like lemons. If the place had been heaving, staff run off their feet then yes I could have probably said ok well never mind, but it wasn’t, there is no excuse. Royal Hotel you’ve let me down so I shan’t be coming back.

I ordered the pulled pork. It had a lot of crackling but didn't seem to be a lot of meat. Also just 4 carrots and not much potato. It was disappointing and a burger or similar would have been better. I will know this for future reference. I did have the baileys bread pudding with caramelised Bananas. I think that was potentially the best part. They do have outside seating in two places, one overlooking the sea (not very clear due to the barriers on the wall. In part this I believe for storm protection and another small seating area. Access ramp and easy access from the right hand side. The other way is a couple of stairs over the concrete wall. I do think it could have been better with the first but the desert I think was potentially the best.

We so looked forward to our visit to The Royal but sadly were very disappointed by the intrusive service we experienced. We hardly had time to sit down and were asked several times in quick succession what we would like to drink, we wanted to look at the menu first to see what would compliment our meal choices but this didn’t seem to fit with the person who was waiting table. We were served our food fairly quickly, no complaints there but again we were interrupted several times asking if we would like more drinks when it was obvious we weren’t anywhere near finished what we had in front of us. This continued throughout the meal to the point we felt we were outstaying our time and the table was needed though there were other tables free. The food was a little disappointing. The sausage and mash lacked taste, particularly the sausages and the mash which was a shame as the sausages sounded so appetising on the menu. The chicken schnitzel was quite tough which is surprising for a dish which should be pounded before cooking. The Royal just did not live up to expectations sadly.

Good wholesome food was much enjoyed. The staff could not have been more helpful and efficient.

Breakfast was adequate with the usual fare available. Coffee not good but tea was fine. We booked for dinner one night but found the food average (greasy, bit like canteen food really). Shame as the location was nice.

Since our previous visit a month ago things have improved. They now have a reasonable desert menu. Still room for improvement, No summer seasonal desert but at least they had something fruity and it was very good, if a bit wintery. We enjoyed or latest visit as did the friends we were with.

We called in person on the morning that we wanted to book an evening meal. Having booked for a 7.30 slot we arrived at the Boathouse bar to be told " theres a table at the top over there or you can use the restaurant". The Boathouse bar is family friendly but as a small group of 3 friends who were having a catch up we did not want children running around shouting and squealing as they were doing so opted for the restaurant. Whilst being shown to the restaurant a staff member said that it was full and that we could eat in the function room. We were the only people in the room so, although at least we could hear each other, the room lacked any atmosphere.I ordered the crab pate which was bland and tasteless. The accompanying sour dough bread tasted burnt but was soggy as if it had been dampened down. My companions ordered the squid which was at least passable. I chose to eat my starter without complaint as l thought it was perhaps my fault for choosing badly. However when the main course arrived l realised the only bad choice l had made was booking The Royal Hotel to eat!I had ordered the duck breast. The vegetables were absolutely cold and the last time l had a rubber duck was when l was in the bath! I tried to cut the meat but did not even manage to make a dent in it.The other meals again were passable. Both of my companions said that they were not impressed but it was edible. The lovely young lady that served our table was apologetic and asked if l would like a different meal. I chose the belly pork which obviously arrived as my friends finished their meal leaving me rushing my food in order to catch up. It was ok but not particularly good. We did look at the dessert menu ( about 3 choices) but decided we would not risk it.The service from the waiting staff was fine and we did leave a tip as none of the disappointment was due to them but l would not bother again to eat at The Royal.

Staff friendly and welcoming.Clean and comfortable looking room but on closer inspection it could do with some maintenance (bathroom ceiling, skirting and taps in particular). Mattresses need replacing - they are cheap and not normal hotel standard. Agree point about Wifi that you should not need to open an account.I would stay again but would want to see hotel acting on feedback about addressing the cracked ceiling in bathroom as it really is about basic standards. Great location. Quiet.

Wow ! What has happened at The Royal Hotel in Deal ? We have been regular visitors there for years and have often commented on the highly variable levels of service. Very slow service on some days suggested that management was weak at times and I have noted this previously on Trip Advisor. Today was quite a shock - an immediate welcome, instant table service and rapid arrival of our order at our table. Payment on completion was equally slick. Special thanks to Sue who was particularly attentive.

Chips and onions rings were good. However, the sandwich was a poor attempt - slices of cheap supermarket bread with very average filling - all a bit limp. The pasta was soggy and totally over cooked, bland and water downed sauce. Definitely not worth the c. £14. Also came out within 2 mins so probably microwaved some leftovers... It's how it tasted.Good location and friendly service were the only redeeming features however, don't settle for this place. You have so many options in Deal right in the same postcode. Give this a definite miss.

We were visiting Deal for a weekend break and booked a table through the hotel website for two people at the later slot available at 9pm. After a two hour journey we were hungry and looking forward to enjoying a meal out on the first evening of our weekend away. Arrived at the Royal Hotel restaurant to be told dismissively by the manager that last food orders were at 8.45pm and it became apparent that he wanted to dismiss us as quickly as possible. When we explained that we had made a table booking online for the 9 pm slot and asked why the restaurant website offered this time as an option for dinner when they actually didn’t serve food at this time, we were told the restaurant couldn’t be responsible for what the website said. We were offered no apology whatsoever and made to feel extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. A very disappointing experience and appalling customer service.

My wife and I booked for lunch after a suggestion of somewhere to eat from a friend. We felt like long lost friends of all the staff on arrival. The food was absolutely fabulous and, together with ice cold beer from their own brewery, it was one of the most enjoyable days out we have had in a long time.

The food was not great. My son had tummy ache and I felt sick for the rest of the day. Potato mash was tasteless and looked like someone’s vomit.Oven roast chicken schnitzel was dry, hard and didn’t taste very good. Cheddar cheese and bacon burger was so so, fries were ok. No salad on a side just few pieces of pickles. British crab and crayfish linguine- felt like something is missing and there was only one piece of crab in a whole plate.Overall it seems like the person who was making the food, does’t like his/her job and is not using any spices or salt. The staff were nice and helpful though.I would not come back and would not recommend this place for anyone.

We've had meals here before and have always enjoyed the food however the Sunday Roast was very disappointing, the veg was cold, the roast potatoes were barely cooked & the gravy was like dish water, the only nice thing was the meat. We should of sent it back I know but we were all so hungry we did eat it. Won't go there again for a Roast Dinner

I have stayed here three times during the summer and every time the staff and facilities have been excellent. Even during COVID they are so organised and Alex and the team are brilliant. This hotel has such a perfect setting right on the sea front and the rooms have character which we love; individually decorated and with a lot of character. The food is good and breakfast excellent with lots of choices. We will definitely be back- a little gem right in the heart of Deal and on the sea front.

Looks like this Bar also gets reviewed under The Royal Hotel.Had been for a long walk along the seafront on a lovely hot sunny day and decided to treat ourselves to lunch.Plenty of outside tables which were obviously all full, but inside table was just as good. Details taken for track and trace, cutlery and condiments delivered to the table. All food and drink delivered on trays from which we took our own items.Staff were friendly, service was good and quick.Food was good. Fish finger sandwich was served in lovely fresh bread, though I'm not sure about the addition of a slice of tomato.Menu stated it was reduced but looked pretty good to us.Will return one day for dinner.

Over the years we have been to eat here many a time. Always a good or excellent experience. Latest visit not as good as usual. Too many doors open to let the wind through supposedly to keep the air healthy and fresh, hum,. Others in the group chose conventional British fare which was very good. I chose something called a Poke Pot. A curious mix of cooked and un cooked hot and cold vegetables and salad. A bit like one might make mid week from random things left in the fridge. However overall a good experience again good value and very helpful pleasant staff. Pudding menu was very limited this time. Not sure why, but what they did have was good.

Went to the Royal today for a light lunch with my two older daughters . Set out very well and cleanliness 100% . Ordered several small dishes which arrived promptly considering how busy they were. Loaded chips were good as well as the peppered squid . Two portions of chips were good , onion rings fair ,but really disappointed in the crab pate for the price. Totally tasteless, one very small slice of toasted sourdough bread and no butter. When asked for butter I was brought one tiny wrapped portion . Not good for £7.95. The service was good though and waitresses/ waiter very attentive . I’m sure they have raised their prices .

Our waitress and other staff were very friendly and helpful and the surroundings were fine. My poached haddock was ok - average - but my husband's cod was very disappointing. The overall size was, to our minds, a bit mean and then he found it was "all batter" - there was very little fish inside. I have to applaud whoever it is who can cut a piece of fish that thinly, or maybe it is done by machine? Anyway, it was cheap enough, but would rather have paid more and had more! The skin-on fries were tasty, but not hot enough. I saw other food coming up which looked better, so perhaps we were just unlucky on the day.

I felt very safe - regulations are being followed accordingly. Food was average. I ordered a fish finger sandwich and it was served in classic white bread that you can buy in the supermarket. It would have been nicer with doorstep bread. I couldn’t taste the tartar sauce and the chips came without any sauces (we weren’t asked either). Overall, it’s okay.

The service was great and the food tasted good. However, £15 for a measly portion of Lasagna. Much bigger portions of other menu items on peoples plates!
