We stayed here on a two night Travelzoo deal which was good value. The room we stayed in (no 14) was adequate but a little tired and would really benefit from a refurbishment. The bathroom in particular, although clean, could do with updating (the shower wasn’t great!). On the positive side the food was really good. We had an evening meal on our first night and it was excellent. Nice dining room and good service. The only thing that annoys me is they add on 12.5% service charge. I don’t mind tipping for good service (and usually do) but I don’t like it when a set amount is added to the bill. Breakfast was good with a choice of cold starters and a choice of hot food cooked to order. The staff working on both mornings were friendly. In summary I would give 3 stars for the room and 5 stars for the food, so overall 4 stars.

This is a lovely place to stay, definitely recommend it and as a bonus it is also dog friendly, without having to pay an astronomical fee. Surprisingly it is a budget hotel but this does not effect the quality. It is clean, with the room having everything that you need. It is situated in a lovely village with plenty of places to eat, however food is served here, which is great quality. The breakfast is on an order basis for the hot side and a selection of cold items to enjoy too. The lady who worked on the breakfasts was lovely (sorry did not get her name), she was so welcoming and friendly it made our breakfast experience even better. Definitely would return here if visiting this area. Don't change this is perfect!

Struggled to pay for the room on arrival at 3pm as reception was closed , finally paid before we checked out the next morning bit even that was a struggle to find someone who could take the money But apart from that, the room was big and comfortable. Breakfast was brilliant and a big shout out to the Bar staff who were very helpful throughout and suggested the best way for us to get to banbury

Arranged for an Afternoon Tea for myself and a large group of friends at the Deddington Arms Hotel. Arrived slightly early which did not cause any problem. Excellent selection of various sandwiches, cakes and of course scones with jam and cream. Tea and coffee served thought our meal which was complemented by 3 different cask ales. Served by very friendly staff so professionally. Will definitely return for future for maybe next time an lunch or evening meal.

We visited the art exhibition and decided to stay for lunch. Nothing was said to us about a wait but we waited an hour from giving our order to the meals arriving. The waitress, after we asked how much long we had to wait, was very apologetic but by then we had “lost the will to live”. Our daughter is a vegan and there seemed to be nothing totally suitable for her. She opted for a vegetarian option. Unfortunately when the meals arrived all three were not really worth the amount we had to pay. The fish and chips were extremely greasy and the ham, egg and chips were ok! Couldn’t fault the staff and the service from them but I’m afraid we won’t be visiting again.

Came for a last minute dinner on a Friday evening and was able to get a table last minute which was great. All our meals were excellent - the fish pie was very tasty and the kids raved about their children’s meals - fish and chips and burger and chips - both looked excellent. The bread and butter pudding was also fantastic. Was sorry not to see it on the menu when we returned a couple of weeks later. Excellent service and friendly staff. We rebooked for a larger family gathering following our lovely dinner, the food was very nice and service was excellent again. Food arrived quickly (although kids meals arrived with starters). The only minor negative was the cappuccino crème brulee was runny instead of set, but it still tasted very nice!

Great restaurant with tasty well priced food. Room was very tired but fine if, like us, it was just a brief stop on a longer journey. Cleanliness of the room was very poor with a lot of dust on surfaces. Bathroom was particularly bad with a floor that clearly hadn't seen a hoover for a long time. The shower curtain rail was not properly fitted and kept falling down which was wasn't much fun. Staff were lovely.

For a restaurant said to have AA Rosettes the menu was somewhat lacking. I had a Halloumi Burger, which was OK, though the fries were a bit over-cooked. My friends had Salmon and Liver, both pronounced OK but not memorable. I finished with ice cream, which was fine; they both had Creme Brulee and found it "unusual". Not a complement. Was delighted to find a Hook Norton beer on offer and in good condition, though the price was decidedly high. Service was good.

I met a friend at the Deddington Arms for lunch today, we used to meet here a lot as it’s half way between our homes and they used to do an amazing fish finger sandwich, (sadly not anymore!) We had coffee when we arrived, a black coffee and a cappuccino. My cappuccino had lots of froth and chocolate, great start…but it soon went downhill, the coffee was bitter, and tasted just like a filter coffee. We ordered a sandwich each and a portion of chips between us. We were charged an extra £3.12 service charge on top of the menu price for the food. I didn’t even get a receipt for the coffee to see if a service charge was added. When I got back to my table I checked the menu, it does say in small print that a service charge is added….Pretty disgraceful, surely a tip should be at the customers discretion? The sandwich menu was very limited, just cheese for vegetarians but it looked good when it arrived, the bread was nice and thick cut. However, the chips were nasty… they tasted greasy with a funny after taste, we think the oil must have needed changing. We ate a few drenched in salt and vinagar but even that couldn’t mask the strange taste so more than half were left. All in all nice bread but the rest very average. And the surcharge added to the menu prices automatically is wrong wrong wrong! I leave a tip if I feel the service deserves a tip,

The restaurant was very quiet but on the positives the pub is nicely decorated and the service was friendly and pleasant. Would not rush back

Location is great, near the A road, but not on it. Parking too is excellent. Our bed was large and comfortable, and there’s loads of very hot water. The breakfast is perhaps the highlight – a perfectly sized, cooked and presented Full English. However the whole place is tired, and in need of a good refurb. The electrics are dodgy! And you can’t plug your phone in near the bed, a modern day must have. Dead bulbs, chipped paintwork and dusty surfaces point to poor maintenance and upkeep. And the bar – well just to say go to the Red Lion across the square if you want a friendly buzzing pub that serves decently priced food.

I used to go to Deddington arms 10 years ago and it was amazing food. But haven't been here for years now. I use the facilities before I went to sit down. There was no toilet roll. So I mentioned to the lady who seated me and she seemed to either not understand and sort of smirked and went on her business. The drinks order taken and then food order. I had mackerel for a starter. The mackerel was hot, had lots of bones and the potatoes salad was very cold and bland. I had to pop to the toilet for 2 mins and came back and they had cleared my table so had to be reseated and a new drink and wait for my Sunday roast. Again I mentioned there was no toilet roll in either loo. It took quite a while for the food to come. It was plonked on the table. No asking if I'd like sauces. The staff all seemed very vacant. Busy but not to be able to read when somebody needs something and when asked their English prohibited them to understand properly. When trying to get the attention of somebody by saying excuse me....... The guy who was on the next table cleaning completely ignored me until I waved and stood up. Food was okay. Meat was okay. The potatoes were either kept warm or reheated and weren't pleasant. The plate was small. I'd seen some other customers near me with huge plates which gave me a good idea of what I might get. I dont usually order roasts. But this sold it to me. £18 for 3 potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, a carrot and parsnip with some pork is not worth it. It was nothing special at all. I then paid and popped to the toilet again and it was still out of toilet roll. Luckily I always have spare but this isn't acceptable. I was very disappointed and years of recommending it. I will now be saying to avoid it. Not worth the money any more. Such a shame.

Attracted by the offer of a cream tea, we visited this hotel for a three nights stay. Our room was comfortable and our welcome was warm. Parking on-site was plentiful. The cream tea, scones, were delicious and the restaurant was exceptional in that the choice of breakfast fare whether a continental breakfast, cereal or a full English was requested. Our full English arrived promptly each morning and they arrived quickly and hot. It was perfect every morning with gluten free toast as requested. On the last evening we enjoyed a meal in the restaurant with wine and were not disappointed. Portions were generous and everything was cooked to perfection. 'Angelo' prepares a mean Irish coffee. Our waitress, Adele, assisted by 'Soloman' each day could not do enough to make our stay a success. I would recommend this hotel as it is placed mid-point between Oxford and Bletchley. In addition, the bus to and from Oxford leaves from almost outside the hotel. Leave your car for the day?

We visit Deddington Arms hotel and Restaurant via Travel Zoo offer. Very good value for money however we expected the hotel rooms to have been refurbished. However they had not been refurbished and are in desperate need to be. The standard of cleaning was very poor.Lovely towels, bedding and a comfortable bed. The manager tried to accommodate us and gave a bottle of wine with our evening meal. The food was excellent and the restaurant looked like it had been refurbished. All staff friendly and professional. The only thing I would suggest is to encourage guests to wear a mask when helping themselves to breakfast at the self service area. First time out out for many months and this did not disappoint. I chose mackerel with a mild curry sauce as a starter. Mackerel had beautiful crispy skin, perfectly cooked and the sauce complemented it really well. My main was belly pork served with creamy mash. My request for gravy was was honoured, also delicious. The best crackling, golden and crispy, on the outside of the pork. Melting tender meat and buttery smooth mash all contributed to me being very, very happy. Couldn’t find room for as much as a small lump of cheese afterwards.I would highly recommend.

We were booked for two nights for B&B. The pub itself is ok. The dining room is the best decorated room in the whole place and isn't reflected in the guests rooms. Our room was outside and up a stair case in the 'new' part of the hotel. The floor near the wash basin in our room (No:23) was boiling hot. Our friends were staying in the room downstairs and their room was like a sauna. In fact, it was so hot that they changed rooms! We were told it was hot water pipes running under the floor and not underfloor heating but in the height of summer this was unbearable. The room itself was ok could do with a bit of TLC but the bed was ok and there was hot water. The breakfast was good as was the sunday lunch we stayed for. The room was cheap and to a certain extent you get what you pay for!

My friend and I had booked this hotel with the intention of going in March, then COVID struck. We decided that October would be perfect. We had stayed here a few years ago and it was lovely. However.........The small room had a double bed when I had requested a twin. That was changed to a twin with virtually no gap between the beds, the duvet cover wasn’t put on properly- looked like a crocodile was inside it!-, no sheets on either bed and bedside table stuck in the middle of the room. I went to ask for sheets, a girl arrived with them so my friend and I set about making the beds properly, putting the bedside table between the beds. We didn’t notice until bedtime that there was no cold water in the bathroom basin. In fact it was boiling! Before breakfast the next day we tried to have a shower but there was no hot water in the shower, although plenty in the basin taps. The shower curtain was disgusting. It was absolutely filthy. I wouldn’t have cleaned the floor with it for fear of getting the floor dirty. The windowsill and window frame were also filthy abs had cobwebs and a dead daddy long legs. So, another complaint to reception only to be told workmen had been in the bathroom and were supposed to have sorted the water, and they obviously hadn’t cleaned up after themselves!!! Ummm!!! Who’s job is it to check????????????? After breakfast, the shower curtain was changed but the cobweb and daddy long legs had been brushed on to the floor. Aargh! At no point did I get the impression that anyone cared whether we were there or not. Nor did we feel particularly COVID safe in the bathroom area. Excuse after excuse. Another one was,’ oh I haven’t checked that room yet!’ Then why was it allocated to guests??? The food was fantastic though. That’s the only reason I’ve given this review a 2! We had one meal in our deal, and were happy enough to eat in again the second night. After all the hassle we were told we had nothing to pay. I know this has been a hard year, but it’s been hard for everyone. We don’t ask for a lot. Is a decent, clean room where everything has been checked too much to ask for? This was our first time away for 3 years because we each have ageing parents, so don’t get to see each other much. Can you imagine going abroad and getting this sort of treatment? People who care about their businesses want people to stay and want to make people feel welcome and will do everything to ensure safety and comfort come first. I can honestly say that we felt that neither of these things were in place in the hotel. It really was shocking! Definitely will not be going back. The management should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

A group of us were on a super car tour of the area, and Deddington looks lovely. We walked into the restaurant and bar, and whilst my friends waited to order drinks at the bar I went to ask if there was the possibility of a table for 7 - just on the off chance. It was pretty busy, but I could see a few empty tables across the room.I stood at the counter, and a lady was behind the counter (it looked like she was working on someone’s bill). Without so much as looking up - she said ‘I’ll be with you in a moment’. I replied ‘Of course, no problem.’ But a minute turned into two, then three. Still not a further word - nor eye contact. That turned into 5 minutes, by which point I was kind of bemused - it was getting embarrassing as I was literally standing two feet away and had zero response since her initial comment. I could see she was busy, and busily crossing off bits on a bill. Then finally, she stopped writing - and without a word or eye contact just marched off into the distance and disappeared. I kind of laughed to myself, and there were a couple of her other colleagues behind her also at the counter. I tried to speak to a man, and said to him (and I was still bemused, it was almost funny) that I’d been waiting 5 minutes for that lady, and she just walked off without a further word. I wasn’t being rude or grumpy - I was just trying to ask the question about the availability of a table. However, this very rude Italian man snapped at me ‘she’s very busy serving the 80 people already in the building - and not just someone who just wandered in the door’. I couldn’t believe the severity of his response and smiled and kind of chuckled, and said I can see he’s busy - but there’s no need to be rude. I wasn’t being rude to him (but was rapidly approaching where I wanted to be). He snapped back that she’s busy and hasn’t got time to talk to you. I said ‘there’s no need to be rude or aggressive with me’. He said again ‘we’re busy - so feel free to leave.’ And he literally pointed at the door. Which is a first for me. I’ve never, ever been told to leave a restaurant in my life. I would strongly suggest that management trains staff how to communicate with customers whilst under pressure. Had either of them said - I’m so sorry, we’re really busy and we don’t have a table or can’t serve you - I’d have accepted that, and gone elsewhere instead - no hard feelings.Instead, he was unbelievably rude, and maddening and unnecessarily hostile. So we went to the next village, and cancelled our drinks and we all walked out. Thankfully their staff were welcoming, friendly and made us feel very welcome. To summarise I can’t comment on their food, or their drinks - but I can tell you that if they’re busy or under pressure you’re going to get rude service. Which is a shame. But at least we’ve now got a lovely place to go next time we’re in the area. And it’s 100% NOT the Deddington Arms that we’d recommend.

I'll start by saying this isn't a 5 star Hotel. What you get is super comfy beds, powerful showers large bedrooms with superb food at very reasonable prices. But the Crowning glory has to be the staff. They are a complete credit to the Company. From front of house Lyn to the super helpful Georgie who just can't do enough. If you have a problem it is solved immediately in a polite professional way.I believe a refurb of the bedrooms is on the agenda which will be super.Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we will certainly be backMany thanks Julie and David

Lovely two night break, clean and comfy room, helpful staff, great food. A bonus to have Oxford sightseeing tickets included, definitely worth doing. If I had a complaint, the bathroom taps and grouting need replacing, but the rest of the room was immaculate. I would definitely return. The village of Deddington is beautiful too.

Improved since my last visit, seems to have gone a bit more up market with a more extensive menu. We had scallops to start and a pasta dish for mains all of which was cooked well and lovely.

We had a super stay at the deddington arms. We stayed in order to visit Blenheim Palace which is a short distance away and were really pleased with the place. The room was extremely comfortable and the food and service was first class

Stopped here for lunch on a cross-country drive. Lovely old pub. Good lunch options, we had sandwiches which were well filled and accompanied with crisps. Nice clean facilities.

Rather liked our quirky little accommodation located away from the main hotel at the back of the property. The buildings around the courtyard/parking area are clearly old cottages as evidenced by the original front door still there (firmly closed and secured). The room was spacious and we quite enjoyed spending some of the evening sat in our wing armchairs by the fireplace (very atmospheric). Lovely bathroom with a claw feet bath and old fashioned wooden tiled vanity unit around the sink. Lots of fluffy clean white towels and a comfy bed. The hotel restaurant provided good food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely pub. Chatty barmaid. Sat outside in the pretty town but got too hot so had to come and sit inside on the comfy sofa. 🙂

Went here with some friends I had a chicken terrine which was extremely oily and came with I can only describe as like 3 crisps ! At £8 a time it wasn’t very nice.

My husband and I had the specials starter which we delicious. We both opted for mains off of the menu which we good but not as good as starter. However puddings where uninspiring and we ended up having ice cream. I felt it was good value for money and you got what you paid for. Staff were efficient.

Well looked after by all the staff but a special mention for the receptionists. We had a deal which included 2 nights B and B, an evening meal allowance and tickets for a local attraction, all arranged with the hotel, good value. Meals cooked were of a high standard with a decent choice. Our room was very comfortable with space for storage. We have already booked to return.

The receptionist was friendly and efficient. Our room in the annex was very comfortable. It was also very clean which was kept up throughout our stay. Breakfast was freshly cooked and well presented and tasty. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We would like to especially thank Elizabeth, who served us each morning, for her excellent and friendly service. Thank you Elizabeth. The restaurant had a varied menu but as we were exploring the area we only used it once. The meal we did have was tasty, well cooked and well presented. it is a very quiet location and we enjoyed walking around the village. All in all, a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

The meals are a tad pricey but we had an allowance included in the deal for staying at the hotel for 2 nights so we had a combination of the lamb shoulder, the cheese tart, the chicken supreme and the beef burger. followed by the pecan pie and amerento pot.

Stayed and dined at the hotel as part of a Travelzoo package. Had dinner on the first night. Was impressed by the quality of what came out of the kitchen: quality ingredients, professionally presented. The food isn't cheap, but it is certainly good value for money. The waiting staff were uniformly pleasant and attentive.

Stayed for 2 nights last month. Accomodation was good if a little bit tired. The welcome in the restaurant was good, and the food was even better. The staff were well trained, and when a table was vacated the next member of the team cleared it regardless of their position. The bar was well stocked and equally friendly.Would highly recommend for a short break near Oxford

Three of us met for lunch here on a Sunday. There's no carvery, but they have a good a la carte menu. The dining room has had a refurb since my last visit. Good comfy chairs and well spaced out tables. Service was good and we all enjoyed our meals. My wife's GF requirements were handled well. Easy parking at the rear.

We have today had lunch with friends at the Deddington Arms. The four of us ordered fish and chips, which was crispy and delicious. However, all four portions were heavily scattered with seasalt flakes. Please - not everyone likes salt (my partner particularly dislikes it) and some people are supposed not to have it because of health conditions (one of us has high blood pressure). Two of us were trying to scrape it off. So please, allow people to add their own, if they want it. Other than that, the surroundings were very nice, and the waitress was delightful, so we shall come again.

The restaurant has a lovely feel to it with very nice decor and a welcoming fire in the bar area. The hake was beautifully cooked and the mackerel was also excellent. A nice relaxed atmosphere and not rushed. The only negative for me was the coffee which was extremely bitter. For the quality of food, very good value. We would definitely return.

Great dinner this evening, food was lovely and the staff made us feel welcome and well looked after. We dined early so it was quiet - deserves to be full of an evening.

Went for the steak night. The two steaks we had were over done but do you know what they were super tasty and it really didn't matter. Now the thing that completely floored me was the wine £7.75 for a medium (NOT large) red wine was seriously a stupid amount of money to charge when the wine can be bought from Aldi for approx £5.50 for the bottle and the fact of the matter the wine with the meal (included) and the glass bought on it's own were rubbish. Cheap and Nasty.

Rather disappointing to find that they charge more for Zero Guiness than for the alcoholic version.Food was OK though. Afterwards we popped round to the Dog and Gun pub got 7 drinks for less than the price of 4 here.

Six of us visited, between us we had 2 meat dishes, 2 vegetarian and 2 vegan dishes. None where great tbh, and certainly nowhere near good enough to reflect the price. Pub was nice as was the waitress that served us. Sadly we won't be back.
