Good little pub for a pint, a coffee, or food. Had lunch and dried various bits of clothing in front of their fire. A range of Hook Norton beers - including '12 days' (of Christmas) and other seasonal variants. Lunch was really good and they had veggie options. Warm pub, good beers / drinks, and an excellent menu. Oh, and parking. Highly recommended!

Just returned from a two night stay, and can only say it was extremely good, from the moment we checked in the service was spot on. We had an evening meal on the Friday night which was spot on, went elsewhere for food Saturday evening and did not come up to that at the Sun, Breakfast inthe mornings were very good & all included in price, thankyou to a hard working team.

We stayed here on a Saturday night, after enjoying the Hook Norton Brewery Tour. All the staff were really friendly and happy to chat, that made us feel very welcome. We ate dinner and breakfast here too, both were really good and served piping hot! Being an old building, it had some squeaky floorboards in the room, but that all adds to the character

We only stopped by for a quick drink, so unable to give a true rating. Having said that, once we'd settled in with a glass of excellent Hooky, we thought about praying for a heavy snowfall. It's that kind of place; once you're there you don't ever want to leave. Will certainly be back for a meal soon.

Enjoyed a nice 6 mile walk around Hook Norton before stopping at The Sun Inn. The Sunday lunch was outstanding...one of the best I've had in a long time. The Beef was deliciously cooked and served with fresh vegetables, lovely roast potatoes and a generous amount of gravy. The service was friendly, and the food arrived really quickly. To top it all, the fresh Hook Norton IPA was wonderful. I would recommend booking a table at the weekend so you are not disappointed I will definitely be returning.

We have eaten at the Sun many times and the food is good. There are always gluten free options available. However our visit today was spoiled by the loud banging music coming from the kitchen. All we could hear in the dining room was the loud base except when the kitchen door was opened and the noise was disturbing. Surely the staff in the bar were aware of this and somebody should have realised how this was affecting the customers. It spoiled what should have been pleasant lunch.

Stayed in the area recently for the first time and the pub was a minute walk from our air bnb - winner! Great well kept Hook Norton ales. Food was very good and sensibly priced (shame we didn't manage a breakfast) Very friendly staff, they made sure that you were made to feel very welcome which I like in an unfamiliar pub. Great that we could have a game of pool in the separate games room. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

Booked in for a Sunday lunch with family - I’m always hesitant about having a Sunday roast in a pub as there’s almost always something that lets it down… however this was probably the best Sunday roast I’ve had in a pub ever! It really was that good… perfect amount on the plate, no dodgy bits of meat, plenty of gravy, good selection of veg and perfectly cooked! Great location, atmosphere and great service too, i would highly recommend:)

Out of the way pub, one of the best steaks I've ever had anywhere and I don't say that very often being a very picky butcher. Just a short walk away from where we were staying in Hook Norton at The Pear Tree Inn who were not serving food. Their clientele let the place down somewhat, A lot of Barbour wearing yuppies who chose to knock back their gin and tonics and drive away in the spotless Range Rover to the next establishment. Ok if you don't mind that sort, the landlord needs a lesson on customer relations as well. After all a smile doesn't cost much does it??

Stayed here on a cycling trip. Room 1 was fairly basic but the bathroom was very good and clean. We had our evening meal in the restaurant and there was a good selection of standard pub food well prepared and presented. Service was excellent and attentive. The only gripe was the midweek breakfast which is advertised as 'continental. In reality it consisted of a couple of packaged pastries and basic fruit from a communal fridge downstairs and a few mini boxes of cereal to be eaten in our room sat on the beds as there was no table. Still can't complain about the cost of the room or the evening meal. Overall this was an almost perfect pub in an idyllic Cotswold village. Well worth a visit maybe at the weekend when they apparently serve a proper breakfast.

My wife and I were welcomed into the sun and ushered to a table by lovely waitress. We had a hook ale from the brewery down the road- very nice! I enjoyed an excellent sunday pork roast (me) with all trimmings. Particularly the best carrot and parsnips. Really nice gravy. The most splendid yorkshire. Potatoes were so crisp- the chef really does the veges so so well. My wife had fish and chips. The fish had the best batter and the chips very good. Homemade tartare I think- very nice. Normally she does not like the tartare but this seemed fresh and worked well with grilled lemon. We left big tip and will come back again next month when on holiday- forget Chipping Norton, they all overcharge and the customers and hosts out here in the country are quieter and more friendly

The pub and the village are so cute it makes you never want to leave. The pub itself is clean, fresh, with a sophisticated and professional air, but not removed at all from the normal village life with many locals frequenting this pub. The accommodation is excellent, but it is so popular that you really do need to book up well in advance to be sure of getting a room. Not only did we stay the night this visit but we took dinner here too; both excellent and very reasonable value. As for the beer, well, with the brewery just up the road, superb! We will be back again in the Summer.

**AVOID** AT ALL COSTS went in for lunch to be greeted by unfriendly, grumpy female teen too busy texting her BF to care. Asked her if she was happy, was I speaking Chinese? Told her to tell her face! Long story, .... more grumpyness, poor attitude and dirty looks. I was eventually rude and sarcastic, sorry. Moral of the story ... if you are in CUSTOMER SERVICE, hospitality and the pub business, do not employ clueless, highly strung, hormonal TEENS. Owner of pub attacked me like a woman posessed for being rude to her staff. Oddly, a bit of a turn on lol. Mental, in desperate need of more HRT. Customer is always right, manners cost nothing.

We had a lovely meal at The Sun Inn whilst staying in Hook Norton for our honeymoon. The roast dinner was delicious however, being gluten-free, I was not able to have the homemade Yorkshire Pudding or the Cauliflower Cheese which made the meal a little small. This is a lovely little pub in the Cotswolds, situated in a lovely village I’ve known well for years and it’s worth a visit if you just want to visit a quaint little village that has loads of buildings with Cotswold stone buildings, to me this is one of the loveliest parts of the Uk building wise. We were there to visit family and do a walk followed by a pub lunch. The Sunday lunch was good, but I wouldn’t say amazing, I chose wrong? I went for the pork and should have gone for the beef. The pork was slightly over cooked and chewy, but the beef looked cooked to perfection and juicy, my wife went for the beef and I had food envy. The best part about the meal to me was the carrots and parsnips followed by the cauliflower cheese. The potatoes were nice and nicer than most pubs but I thought they were a little over done. All in all it was a nice experience, the staff were friendly and the prices were standard.

My Grandma and I stayed here for a night towards the end of July. The food was incredible, it’s the best ribeye I’ve had and the breakfast was also amazing. We were served by a younger waitress who was lovely. The only thing I could fault was how loud it was in the night, around 2am there was a big group right outside the pub/hotel playing music on a speaker and I had to ask them to turn it off through the window. This kept my grandma up as they had been laughing and chatting for a while before this and continued after I asked them to turn the music down. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with anyone here, but I thought it would be worth a mention. Apart from that, I would definitely come back for the food as it was delicious and you were all so accommodating to my Grandma.

We booked a table of 4 for Sunday evening and were not told that there was a reduced menu between 6-8pm. So when we got there and saw the very pricey and very limited menu it was a disappointment. We found something to eat with my parents and my son both picking a ploughmans.. Well to say the ploughmans was over priced is an understatement. For £13 you recieved, 1 slice of brown bread cut into 2, 3 small slices of ham, 1 tiny pickle, and the smallest white ceramic dish filled with grated cheese. I have never seen a ploughmans like it. I think they must have made at least £12 off of each dish. The amount on the plate would have been enough to fill one sandwich, if we had been give another slice of bread. When I questioned the staff over the ridiculously small and unappetizing food I was told that all ploughman's are different. Yes I agree, but this was disgraceful for the price and we will all the competition around for good pub food we wont be back.

My own fault, just didn’t read the sign but it’s unusual for a pub not to serve into the evening. Would definitely go back if we are in the area again.

The establishment is fine , decent food, even if the prices are near the top for the level of service , the same applies for the room. The big problem with our room was that it was directly above the bar , which played loud music until 1.30 am- alright if you’re in the midst of it , not if you’re upstairs in bed but have the impression that you’re in the midst of it !

We booked this hotel for a short break. When we arrived we were met by very friendly and helpful staff. The room was well presented, clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable with plenty of good quality bedding and pillows. There was additional room heaters if needed. Complementary tea, coffee and water were well stocked and of good quality. The evening meal was delicious and the staff even catered for my lactose intolerance needs. Breakfast was excellent. Altogether a superb located hotel and well worth a visit.

Stayed one night as within walking distance of Hook Norton Brewery. Lovely place to stay with a great room. Dinner in the evening was excellent we happened to be there on "steak night" and can honestly say some of the best steaks we have tasted

We stopped here for lunch on a Monday lunchtime after a walk nearby. The staff were very offhand and there was some confusion over where we could sit as there was a birthday party group in. Eventually we got some menus and ordered our food. What a disappointment! My leek and potato soup was a thick dark green sludge with a slick of oil on the top. The cheap white bread had been hanging around in the kitchen for a while as it was dry. When I asked for some more bread as it was dry, another slice of the same came out with no butter. The soup was strangely tasteless apart from overpoweringly salty and only lukewarm. When the plates were cleared I said to the waitress that the soup had been very salty so I had left it, she just said” I’ll tell them” - whatever that meant! My husband had the squid which was okay but a mean portion for the money. Beer was good as it should be in the home of Hook Norton ale but the food leaves much to be desired and there are much better places to eat in this area.

My husband and I had beef, and our friends had pork. Beautiful food with our friends, who have eaten in some very nice restaurants saying it was the best Sunday lunch, eaten out, that they’d ever had!!

In the middle of the village opposite the church, this is another village pub that has pursued the Gastro Pub route. A good interior with stripped pine floor and furniture, ample bar area and seating. A good pub menu with some classics and I ordered the calves liver with mash, madeira gravy and spinach. Oh dear - the liver was burnt almost to a cinder and looked like old leather. I should have sent it back but we had been on a long, tiring walk and I did not want the hassle. Desert was good - ginger and vanilla cheese cake which was accomplished but the kitchen needs to step up to the mark.

Two of us had planned a circular walk starting and finishing at the Sun Inn situated in the middle of the very pleasant village of Hook Norton - famous for its ancient brewery.

Our mains were warm not hot. In fairness though the food, location and beer were good, just annoying when not hot. Our main shock was the unhygienic outside rear patio area where there was discarded (what looked like) food stuffs, general rubbish and a lack of care or focus towards standards. Dread to think what the kitchen looks like if public customer areas are like this! Management attention and focus required.

Lovely modernised pub with plentiful seating and nice ambience. Extensive menu which offered great choice and good VfM. Service from the young women working there was smiley and very efficient. Beer just great too. Thanks

I visited this lovely Oxfordshire pub whilst in Hook Norton celebrating a friend’s birthday. A small group had some drinks and snacks at lunchtime which were very well done ( sandwiches and chips etc) the pub had a warm and welcoming vibe and many of the visiting group of us enjoyed watching the rugby in the games room. In the evening I was part of a party of approx 30 people for a sit down 3 course meal. The food was delicious and the waiting staff coped really walk with the challenge of tightly packed tables and guests intent of chatting and catching up with each other. The pub has a great mix of traditional fires together with a tasteful renovation.

Visited the Sun Inn for Sunday lunch today, there was a really good choice of dishes on the menu, 2 of us went for rare roast beef with all the trimmings, one had roast old spot pork with all the trimmings. The roasts were excellent, the meat was plentiful, with a huge yorkshire pudding, nice choice of fresh veg and roast potatoes with good gravy. For dessert 2 of us had chocolate marathon with vanilla bean ice cream and home made short bread, and one had lemon tart with raspberry sorbet. I found the chocolate marathon a bit weird it tasted nice but was akin to a chocolate fondant but with only a crust top and rest very runny like chocolate soup. Also there was too much of it. But vanilla bean ice cream was nice, but not a big scoop and the short bread was ok. I would not order this dessert again.

Great dinner this evening, food was lovely and the staff made us feel welcome and well looked after. We dined early so it was quiet - deserves to be full of an evening.
