We have stayed at the hotel once or twice before as it is dog friendly and when we travel with the dog it is convenient, not the cheapest but competitive and right in the centre of town. We have previously stayed in one of the rooms to the back of the hotel which are accessed individually and not via the hotel, although not 5 star it was ok for what it was. On this occasion we were in the main hotel which was nosey and difficult to access after 11pm when the hotel closed. Not a minute later. And difficult to pop out in the night may the need take the dog. The room itself was tiny and little storage space so the small space that was available was taken up by a suitcase. The carpet was thread bared in many places and the room looked tired and unkept. However the beds were made every day and tea and coffee replenished along with towels if needed. Even with the windows open it was so hot it was hard to sleep between that and the noise. The hotel bar and lounge was comfy and nice to sit and socialise in although full of black boards advertising events, staff were friendly. At this stage I wouldn’t return and stay there again. Shame.

Just stopped in to the Cromwell lodge hotel for lunch, the meals are fantastic, they have a very good gluten free menu and I can recommend the steak and IPA pie. My wife loved the sausage and mash and the picky eater child ate all the chicken in a basket. Dog friendly too with dog treats available at the bar.

Very clean rooms, but looking tired in some of the corridor areas. Very focused receptionist who went through detailed procedures of the hotel.

Visited for a family Sunday lunch. At first the menu looked to have lots of choice and everything sounded really appetising. 3 of us ordered roast beef (served pink, as described in the menu), 1 roast pork, 1 slow roast lamb shank, a hunters chicken and 2 sides of garlic ciabatta and salt and pepper chips. We ordered drinks whilst we waited for food. I asked what lagers they had on tap and was told Peroni, Birra Morretti and ‘Guiness’, but the waitress couldn’t remember if there were any more… About 10 minutes later the waitress came back and said that 2 out of the 5 drinks we ordered were not available, we changed those and waited another 5 minutes to be served (there were only around 7 other people in total across the bar and the restaurant). Waited another 5 minutes for drinks, still one missing, 5 minutes later we had to remind the waitress we were still waiting for that last drink. Then the food came…. Beef - was not rare, in fact quite the opposite, 2 small slices of over cooked, tasteless and fatty meat. Parsnips were limp thin slices of rubber, roast carrots were ok (but couldn’t taste the maple syrup they had supposedly been cooked in), broccoli was clearly reheated from frozen and now just mush… Rosemary roast potatoes that were so small we had to search for them under the soggy veg and that had clearly never seen a sprig of rosemary in their life, let alone taste of any… What was described as ‘sausage stuffing’ on the menu was actually a small disc of dried out sage and onion stuffing. Pork - dry, no flavour and came with what looked like a mouldy hockey puck (turned out to be half an apple, not edible in any way) and a long shard of what we assumed was meant to be crackling (that bent in 2 without any sign of cracking) which was totally tasteless to the point it was spat out rather than consumed… Veg and stuffing the same as the beef. Lamb shank - actually tasted of lamb, but texture was as though it had been boiled rather than slow roasted. Hunters chicken - devoured by a very hungry teenager, but if it had been me that ordered it I’m not sure I would even consider eating it… And as for the £3 side of garlic ciabatta… What we actually received was one tiny slice of baguette, similar to that which was served in deep pan pizza back in the 80’s… total rip off…. Whilst we waited for all of these delights to be served to us (with little interaction from the staff), we could see that the restaurant was pretty dirty… Wrappers left on the floor, a bit of duplo lying in the middle of the floor, sticky crumbs on the seating that felt like they had been compacted into the fabric over many years & stacked furniture slung in a dark corner of the restaurant… My partner ventured to the toilets to report back that they were filthy and that one of the sinks was leaking badly. On her way back to the table she looked into the conference room only to be confronted by a very rude receptionist who asked her what she was doing and told that she shouldn’t be looking into the ‘empty’ room which was actually just full of junk. All in all a very disappointing meal… I will never return to eat here, and would strongly suggest that if you are considering it, you don’t either!

Whilst food is perfectly adequate, ensure you register your license plate on arrival if parking in their car park. Staff will not ask you. I unfortunately forgot to do this and out of the blue received a letter from a debt collection company informing me about an unpaid ticket I did NOT receive. As I neglected to inform reception of my license plate, I would’ve paid the parking ticket had I received one but to receive a letter saying I owe £170 is completely outrageous and a total scam.

Not the best Sunday lunch I have had but it filled a gap. Roast potatoes were very very salty and the veg was a tad undercooked but the lamb and Yorkshire pudding were nice. Lovely pub very clean and the staff were lovely. No baby changing facilities in the pub though which is a big minus

Had a lunchtime meal here, great food, but have to say exceptional service and attention from our waiter Tim , brilliant.

We popped in here last minute on our way to Heathrow to see if they had availability for a family of 4. The fog horn behind the desk was very unhelpful. However thank God for the staff member Ben. He was very welcoming and friendly and super accommodating. He went out of his way to check with the chef if he could fit us in as they had a big party booked in. He really went out of his way!! Thanks Ben you are awsome. High standard customer service. Your a credit to Green King!! Food was great. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Thanks loads x

Very old building. The room I stayed was at best, tired and only had a bath, no shower. Apparently I should have specifically asked for a room with a shower when I booked it. Road is very busy all night.

We’ve just come back from a weekend away staying at the The Cromwell Lodge Hotel & wasn’t disappointed. The location is great as it’s situated in the heart of the town. Our room was functional for a night/weekend stay and cleaned everyday. The food was great all cooked to order, we had an evening meal every night & cooked breakfast every morning. The thing that was most impressive was the staff, caring, helpful & nothing to much trouble. We have to mention Jess, wow what a member of staff she is, she’s extremely dedicated to her job & making sure the customer is happy. Whatever she’s paid its not enough as she’s a true asset to the business. Jess checked us in and help us to swap rooms so it was better for our little dog Levi. Our last meal even though she was run off her feet took the time to bring Levi a sausage, we were very touched & grateful for this & of course so was Levi. He looked for her everywhere & wanted to say goodbye on checkout but sadly she wasn’t working, hopefully taking a well earned break. We will come back again Matt, Dee & Levi

Absolutely fantistic time yet again at the Cromwell. We have been here a few times now and they never fail to dissappoint! Smashing service and awesome dinners. The staff are always super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. As for the food, you'll have to go give it a go yourself! Truly worth every singke penny.

Popped in as part of our pub and experience around Banbury. Was ok. Beer choice not great. Decent garden. Better bars around Banbury

This place is great as an out of towner me and my husband were looking for a quick drink before our meal nippednin here bar staff were incredibly friendly and chatty the atmosphere qas amazing and very relax, with the most gorgeous beer garden, we loved it so kuch we returned after our meal and spend a few hours just chatting highly recommended x

The service we received was amazing. The chicken basket I had was really well cooked . In fact the whole food we had was brilliant . And when a slight issue arose ASHLEY AND ANDREW went above and beyond to rectify it efficiently. They were both so polite and friendly and we would definitely come back . A credit to the greeneking brand .

We have had 2 meals there as a group of 10 people, the first was fantastic, the second a month later was unfortunately not so good, different chefs? Shame.

Went there for a lunch club of 13 people. We have just received a parking fine from Britannia for not registering the car in the “Patrons only” car park. (£100) Will not be going back there again! No staff warned us. We have eaten there before with no problems… this will be the last for sure!!…. Chris and Marian The Cromwell have since cancelled the parking notice….

Ideally located to access town or the local area. Staf were a bit rushed at 2 as all rooms were let last night, but room was ready and clean. Room was a bit tired and for us the bed too soft. Fixtures and fittings in bathroom could also do with some tlc. Good breckfast.

Just got back from having a great meal at the Cromwell. I had the Hunters Chicken and the wife had the salmon. We finished with the cheesecake. We sat in the dining room which was fully occupied and therefore had a very pleasant atmosphere. The first meal we have had out for ages where we were both very happy with our meals. It seems there is always something wrong one meal or the other. I drank the Aspalls cider which of course was perfect as I'm not a lover of Green King IPA. But that is personal taste of course.

My husband, son and I went in for a birthday drink and ended having dinner. It was really tasty! From being shown to our table by a lovely manager and a helpful waitress serving our food. Lovely night!!!

Service and welcome amazing, we were visiting for dinner, our food was delicious. We are already planning to visit again for steak night.

The location was lovely, cannot dispute that, and the menu, inviting. Quick service on the drinks, but the food. It took best part of 40 minutes for two sandwiches and then the bread was ‘over toasted’. Not to the point it was burnt but that fact you needed to use your back teeth or risk a trip to the dentist. Would I rerun, honestly no.

Excellent value three course Christmas meal. Good selection of wines at incredible value. The prosecco, Chablis and Châteauneuf du Pape were very good and were priced extremely reasonably. Very busy before Christmas but the staff coped admirably.

With dining options in Banbury being limited we decided to give it a go. The outcome being very positive. Very comfortable restaurant in a historic hotel. Good choice of food at very competitive prices. EG rump streak £14.50. Good choice of wines again at very competitive prices. Will return.

I did a review explaining that chicken pie meals came with chips but 9ne should be mash. By the time the mash came meal was half eaten. Other meal was Prawn and Chilli Linguine with a side order of garlic ciabatter bread. Again the meal was completely eaten before the bread came. We arrived at 6pm which was the booking time and meals didn't come until 7.10pm. October the 24th was when we came butting I put review on on the 28th October. We booked for a family of 4 online . We got there and said we had a booking and we’re shown by the waiter. To the table situated in the window area . Asked what we would like to drink straight away . Then placed our mains order . We were told by the waiter that they had a big party of people in so may b a wait . But that was fine as we were having our drinks and enjoying ourselves , then the mangeres apologised 4 the delay , Hense the busy time . My wife ordered a pork roast . I ordered a beef roast with a big dish of veggies . My son the burger , it came out together and perfect . Must b the best roast I’ve had in the Banbury area delicious , was followed by the pudding ( I must say all staff were great and informed us , we will return thank u

We had a late afternoon Sunday roast. The food was good and tasted fresh and we were pleasantly surprised. The portions were very generous and the staff were friendly. The only downside is some parts of the decor are a bit tired but other than that very good. We will be returning. Thanks

Our visit to the Cromwell Lodge brings a mixed review. We were visiting our daughter who had booked a table for dinner. On arrival we were surprised when the staff did not ask the name of the booking but simply asked how many of us were eating. The three of us were shown to a number of small tables each laid out for 2 and when we suggested they would not work the young chap said sit somewhere, so we elected for a the only table laid for more than 2. After around 10 minutes the same chap returned to take our drinks and food order. Around 10 minutes later a chap we assumed to be the manager approached to tell us that as walk-ins food we be around an hour as they had a large party in. After explaining that we had booked, and had the confirmation email from them, he sought to recover the situation. A waitress then approached to say in order to get our food out they would bring it all at once and about 5 minutes later, 2 main courses arrived, followed by 1 starter delivered by another waiter who asked if that was everything. When we explained that there were 3 mains and another starter he went off again and returned with the rest of the meal. So there we are with a sharing platter starter, a single starter and 3 mains all on the table at the same time. On the positive side, all of the staff were charming, polite and very friendly and the food was delicious if a little spoilt by the means of delivery. In hindsight we look back on this experience as funny with more than a hint of Faulty Towers. So overall, good quality pub grub at a very reasonable price but organisationally a shambles. As good as the food was, I suspect we may try a few other places to eat in Banbury before returning to the Cromwell.

I stayed here for a couple of nights in August to meet up with family in the area. As on previous visits the building is a little shabby and needs Greene King to invest in its' upkeep. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable, the breakfast was good quality with a lot of choice. The main reason I keep returning is the staff. They are always brilliant - welcoming, efficient and helpful. If you need somewhere to stay in Banbury I would recommend the Cromwell.

We as a party of 11 came for a birthday lunch. Amazing food, service and attentive staff. The chap who looked after us was called Rev and he couldn’t have done a better job. Very enjoyable and beautifully set out.

We stayed 3 nights. Also had breakfast and dinner on one night. We travelled from the Highlands and arrived to be pleasantly surprised at how central and convenient the hotel was. Free, safe parking. Clean rooms. Very comfortable 3 nights and staff were very friendly and super helpful. Evening meal we had was very good as was breakfast. Would recommend and will definitely be back next time we go to GB3 in Silverstone 👍

We have visited many times over many years for coffee, this was our first lunch. We chose a selection of Scotch broth, chicken liver pate & chips (to share). We were served by the delightful Tim who was charming & efficient & remembered our order perfectly without writing it down. The food was plentiful & delicios. The dining room is light & spacious & the tables were beautifully set. The only disappointment was the doors & paintwork leading to the ladies toilets are scratched & unsightly & this has been the case ever since we first started visiting some 12 years ago. On the whole a lovely experience which could be perfect with a lick of paint.

We stayed at The Cromwell Hotel, staff go the extra mile nothing is too much trouble. Stayed for long weekend visiting family. We will definitely return.

Very welcoming staff, rooms are of a good standard, food was also good, situated in the centre of town, so bars and pubs, and shops are located across the road, I would recommend a visit, would definitely go back, over all good experience

Stayed here Friday and Saturday night. The Cromwell lodge is in a great location for bars, restaurants and shops and it’s a nice little town. There is a free car park too which is a bonus, and also pay and display right outside in case it’s full. There is also a pleasant garden to the rear. The hotel itself, the common areas and bedrooms(we saw three) is very tired and in desperate need of updating and refurbishing. The reception area is quite depressing. Our room had cracked tiles in the bathroom and the windows were very draughty, and there were damp patches on the walls. No remote for the tv. We did book quite late and the hotel was full so it’s possible the best rooms had already been taken. It wouldn’t need too much spending really to vastly improve the standard. The restaurant menu was good with plenty of choice, but our steak wasn’t cooked as ordered which is not unusual wherever you are to be honest. The pate was probably the best we have ever had. Some little other niggles but overall not bad on the food front. Where I would give this hotel a really big well done is for the service. When we asked to move rooms upon arrival we were happily shown three others to choose from and when we asked for a blanket it was cheerfully located and delivered to the room. The restaurant staff, Jamie in particular, was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and she worked really hard. I would recommend the hotel for the staff alone. It was a very friendly place, dog friendly too and although it wasn’t the nicest place we enjoyed our stay and the town

A no-nonsense pub menu at very realistic prices, which beat Wetherspoons easily, for price, quality & quantity !!Good open lounge areas with plenty of relaxing sofas, with a choice of rooms. Of particular note, is the tucked-away rear garden, which appeared to be well manicured, even during the off-season weather. I even spotted a rare yellow winter flowering rose !I had the steak & kidney pie, with mash and peas. At £5.99, I can't complain, but....... anyway, it filled up a hungry man My room was well priced and clean.A free guest car park at rear is an extra bonus, especially with the scandalous parking charges in Banbury.Well done Greene King I'll give 9/10, but that's only because, 10 is impossible, unless you're The Dorchester !!

Went for a lovely meal with family to catch up just before Christmas and the setting and staff were warm and welcoming and the covid measures in place were reassuring. Jenny looked after us and she was absolutely incredible, a lovely, cheerful and polite lady who really made it that extra bit welcoming for us. A true credit to the staff.

I would just like to give my review on the food and service here. My family and I loved our visit to the Cromwell Lodge. As this was our first visit, we were not sure on what to expect however, we were greeting by a member of staff named Jenny. She was so kind and was patient with us as we really didn't know what to eat. The environment is lovely and the rest of the staff there seem great but Jenny really stood out to me.I will be visiting again.Thank You :)

Came for food the other day and had the hunters chicken which was amazing! Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and the new manager seems lovely! Stopped by at the Cromwell Lodge and the welcome was warming! The staff were lovely and the food was delicious! We were greeted, seated and served by Shanice and Beth. They were lovely. The rest of the staff that were there were also really lovely, however I didn’t quite catch their names. They really made us feel welcome.All of the social distancing measures were in place and we were kept at 2 meters plus from everyone else! Would definitely recommend this pub to my family and friends.

I visited the Cromwell Lodge Hotel for lunch with my friend. It was a lovely experience and the food was excellent. I felt very safe in the pub and the staff (Charlotte and James) were courteous, friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend and visit again.

Having visited Cromwell Lodge Hotel 3 weeks ago with a friend we enjoyed the hospitality shown by Nigel (Gen Mgr) so much so I decided to book a 3 night stay with my husband over bank holiday weekend.Jamie (Asst Mgr) checked us in,we were initially given room 20,it was appalling,wallpaper peeling,chipped paintwork,creaking uneven floorboards.I asked if we could be relocated,Jamie could not have been more helpful,she escorted us to room 10 which was marginally better but still tired & unappealing.We didn’t stay,we did a U turn & returned home.Jamie was apologetic & explained that it was out of her control.She is a credit to Greene King.As a multi national company they need to invest in a total refurb to make it habitable.They are incredibly lucky to have dedicated professional staff.

Today we had my son & his new wife’s wedding reception here. It was simply fabulous. “Nigel surpassed himself”, “the perfect wedding reception”, “such polite and friendly servers” were some of the comments from the guests. I met Nigel last Thursday with Tom & Indya which only gave him 8 days to sort everything for them. He put Tom & Indya at ease, promised them he would look after their every whim and he did so, 100%. An excellent MC too! Nigel, thank you SO much for a wonderful meet and greet, mocktails, 3 course meal and all the hard work sorting the marquee, tables, layout etc, it was all superb. The social distancing was easy to follow and we even had a break in the rain for photos in the garden! I recommend Nigel and his team to anyone considering an event here & we look forward to seeing you all again soon for a family meal at the Cromwell Lodge. Sally xx

Taking advantage of 50% off and decided to try this place. Distancing measures very good and staff wearing visits at all times. Food was exceptional. Not sure why I haven’t been here before but will definitely be going back to try out the rest of the menu.

Had a lovely night, food was amazing. So cheep for the size of a portion you got. And Stu was an amazing server, he was helpful and chatty, he knew what was on the menu and really felt like he cared about the service he put in! Highly recommend!!

I was staying in the hotel upstairs, so my partner and I decided to check me in on the Saturday and then have some food in the garden area... The whole meal was fantastic! And very reasonably priced. We stayed for a couple of drinks then headed back into town. The next day (Sunday) I checked out of the hotel and waited in the garden for my partner to return... The service from all the staff was faultless. Nothing was too much trouble, and every single one of them was polite and friendly. We stayed for lunch (and a few more drinks!) - the trio of roasts was exquisite. My partner had the steak and was also suitably pleased. Everything was cooked to perfection, and all our 'quirks' were happily catered for. The portions were generous, and (unusually for us) we ate almost every last morsel! It was just too tasty! Thank you again to everyone at the Cromwell, we had a lovely weekend... and I know for certain we'll be back when next in Banbury! (for hotel, drinks and food!)

Went for an evening meal. The Lady who served me (maddie) was so friendly and helpful, i had a burger recommended to me by her and it was lovely. She really is an asset to the company. Will be returning

Went to the Cromwell Lodge for lunch today (6th Aug) never been before and chose it because it had wheelchair access & was dog friendly .. The whole experience from booking a table with Beth to leaving after a lovely lunch was great .. No worries re social distancing here with tables in the bar spread out and clear notices all in place .. will definitely be visiting again .. thanks again Beth and also Edward .. you took the Banter well .. To the Manager, you should be proud of your staff

Went in for a quick beer and ended up staying for most of the evening! Had been here previously and there seems to have been a marked improvement in the service levels, which I have found to be inconsistent in the past. Got talking to the chap on the bar (his name was Nigel) who said he had relocated from another pub in the chain and was looking after The Cromwell on a temporary basis. From what I experienced, the company should make him permanent, as given the difference he has made in such a short space of time, I’m sure he could make this the restaurant and bar of choice for many of the locals if he was here long term. I for one will now definitely be a regular visitor and will be bringing the family in to eat at the weekend!

Me and my partner arrived for a late lunch this afternoon, firstly we hadn't booked so were worried that they might not be able to fit us in but we were met with smiling faces and shown to a table right away. We felt safe straight away as this was our first meal out since lockdown. Food was delicious and drinks were really fast to our table. All the staff were fantastic but the landlord absolutely made the experience for us we can't compliment him enough i think his name was Nigel but could be wrong. Cant recommend this place enough! Five stars!!!
