We popped in for lunch. We were not staying at the "hotel" so cannot comment on the rooms. The food is excellent, if a little overpriced. As are the drinks. An example is a pint of lager shandy was priced at £6.35 and noted as a pint of Birra Moretti on the bill. I raised this but they said they "could not change it". And the larger used was not Birra Moretti! That is disappointing and, for me, that's a deal breaker.

Camping for one night before driving to Europe. Phone booking was easy for camping. Arrived at 4.50pm, kitchen shuts at 5pm. Denise said no problem, told me what was on roast of the day, we parked up, put power on. Back to pub where Denise had the table ready, got our drinks and the rest is history. Really great spot to come and eat as it was delicious. Thank you the Drum Inn and Denise 👏👍👌😀😀

Stayed on the site the evening before we were catching LeShuttle. Great location, took less than 10 mins to get to the terminal. Service in the pub was excellent. Very organised team. Henry was superb and even though the pub was really busy our food wasn’t delayed and they kept our drinks topped up. Our food was great. We didn’t use the site toilet or shower facilities. Have booked again for the return leg.

My wife had been to the Drum for the Sunday lunch a few times and have always enjoyed the quality of service and food. Today was unfortunately not a good experience for us. We booked a late lunch to end our weekend and we chose the Sunday roast. The vegetables were, to put it it kindly, leftovers, the roast potatoes were inedible, my wife actually bent the knife attempting to cut it, it was quite obvious that they had been through the oven several times! the so called ‘roast’ parsnips were raw and cold, the rest had clearly been sat in a tray somewhere and had been through the microwave. Overall was very disappointing, I asked the waiter barman to attempt to cut through the roast potato to prove my point, he struggled as expected. I asked for the bill and although he had taken off one of the meals, I would have rather paid full price for the meal we expected. I hate writing this, I have recommended this place to so many people in the past, but after today I’ll think twice. In closing, if you are not able to provide a late lunch, I would rather choose something else than be served this sub standard food.

An excellent place to stay on your way to Le Shuttle; it’s literally just a few minutes away. The campsite is simple with basic shower and toilet facilities but they do the job. The pub is charming with a very good menu and the food is tasty too. A special mention for Henry behind the bar who could not have been more helpful - he’s a credit to the pub. We shall return !

We came to The Drum Inn for a one night stopover en route to the Channel Tunnel and our camper van holiday in France. It exceeded all our expectations. We had our Border Terrorist with us and Denise made sure we were going to be away from another couple who were booked in with another dog. The service was exemplary. We had a pint of Olde Trip which was sublime. I had pork belly with celeriac coleslaw and black pudding and MOH had chicken shish kebab. It’s going to be hard to beat! Lovely pitch for the van, very easy-going and chilled right next to the pub beer garden. Showers were pretty basic tbh but the location, food and great service more than made up for that.

We booked a stopover visit on our way to the tunnel for a camper van holiday in France. We ate in the pub and had our Border Terrorist with us who can be a bit grumpy. As soon as we walked in we were put at ease and Denise found us a table which would be away from other dogs. The food really was amazing. I had pork belly with celeriac coleslaw and MOH had the chicken kebab - honestly best meal I’ve had in a while - what a great start to our holiday. Campsite was very pleasant and chilled although the showers were not the best. However the service, quality and friendliness more than made up for it.

We stopped over at this site prior to getting an early morning crossing on the Eurotunnel. For this purpose, it is a perfect location. However, the site for us was a complete let down. Firstly, to get to the pitches you have to go up a very steep and narrow incline, followed by a sharp right turn. This is far from ideal when towing a caravan. The pitches are very close together. A motor home arrived next to us and we could nearly touch the side of it from inside our caravan. The facilities are very basic and dated. The fresh water outlet is on a hose next to the chemical waste disposal which for us is a big no. As the site is at the back of the pub, it was loud until the pub closed. But once it had, it was very quiet which was a nice point. When we left the site it was pitch black and no lights to help navigate out through the narrow gate or down the steep decline. Overall it is great for location but that is about it.

First off, don’t believe the negative reviews, some people are just negative! We booked this site as a one night stopover due to its proximity to the channel tunnel. We arrived with mixed expectations due to some of the more unreasonable reviews left on here, but were VERY pleasantly surprised when we got there. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially Matt. Thank you The site was very clean and the pub atmosphere was fantastic. We were lucky enough to arrive on Caribbean night which we later found out only happens once a year! This meant that we had the joy of listening to a full steel band playing as we set up camp! Incredible! Another band set up following the steel band and played into the evening in the beer garden. The house ales were lovely, hazy day went down a treat in the afternoon sunshine. We will definitely stay again!

Update 1st August 2024 Superb, once again! Four of us came for lunch and the food, yet again, was simply lovely. Such a friendly pub, dog friendly and a happy place to be. Wish we had this one in Sellindge🙄 *Update on previous review below: Sad to say that I hadn't been back to the Drum since my last review which was during Covid. Today we decided to visit again. The pub is literally on our doorstep, yet for no known reason we always seem to go elsewhere, The Drum doesn't seem to be on our radar, but today four of us stopped by for some lunch and oh my, it was absolutely superb! I had Clams in a garlic and spring onion jus with a side order of fries. Others in the party had filled Ciabatta's and fries and my Mum had the Scotch Bonnet, garlic prawns. All of which were cooked to perfection and served beautifully. The bar man/waiter was so friendly and was genuinely happy to serve us. The food here is a major step up from the usual pub grub and a high percentage is home made. Please, please make time to visit this gem of a place. I have learnt my lesson and we will definitely be back soon. My husband and I have just returned home from having a meal at the Drum Inn in Stanford. They are not doing the Government half- price meals but that didn't matter to us as we just wanted to go somewhere different. The location is really nice and the place this evening was buzzing, clearly it is somewhere on the map for local motorbike clubs, as well as being a listed camp site. The staff were really friendly and they have worked hard in putting social distancing measures in place; the pub itself was spotless and we cannot wait to revisit in the near future.

We used the Drum Inn for a second year as an overnight stop before getting the train to France! I decided to write a review this time as we had such lovely service from Denise from the moment I went in to check in to our pitch, to leaving after our fabulous meal in the pub that it all deserves a good review! The campsite is great for a one night stop. Check in was quick and easy (with Denise)! Pitches are a good size and having the pub for dinner means no need to cook etc if you up and out early in morning. We didn't use the shower facilities so can't comment on those. Leaving was easy, just a code to gate so can leave as early as you need (we left at 5am)! We ate dinner in the pub which was fantastic! My spaghetti vongole was amazing! So fresh and flavours were spot on. Boys had the steaks and said they too were great! But the 5 stars definately goes to Denise. So friendly, so efficient, she did EVERYTHING for us. Checked us in, got us drinks in the pub, took our order, served our food, cleared our table. All whilst serving regulars at the bar, other tables in the restaurant and not once leaving us waiting. And all in a non flustered, really friendly manner. Multi tasking at it's best. Wouldn't hesitate to go back for a 3rd year if we need to. I highly recommend if you want a no frills campsite and an excellent meal with fantastic service. Thanks Denise. You were awesome.

We camped over here the night before going over to France in the morning. Perfect location and very close to Le Shuttle. 15 minutes drive to Dover if going by ferry. The Campsite was lovely, clean toilets and shower area. Only issue we had was ordering food. Some of our group was refused a food order due to being busy and the kitchen closing what I would consider early. Think it was 8:30. The Campsite was full and we all got asked if we were eating in the pub while checking in. It wasn't like they were not expecting us. So we did leave disappointed as the couple that was refused a food order had to order a takeaway away. All in all a pleasant enough experience for myself. My advice is book a table if you want to eat in the pub and you should be fine. Certainly will be back if I need an overnight stop before travelling to the continent.

Stayed here for 1 night as a stopover for the Channel Tunnel We had stayed last September as it's a great location and the staff are very nice. Unfortunately our 8.2 metres motorhome we felt was too big for the pitch and the incline on the bank into the site was too steep and our vehicle bottomed out. There are alot of pot holes which adds additional problems. Also to note the actual toilets and showers appear to be more neglected since our last visit. I know it was only a stopover but we would still expect a clean and well maintained toilet block.

So many wonderful choices on the menu too - totally spoilt for choice! Hats off to the chef and team for our perfectly cooked & quality seabass and steak meals. The ice cream and plum brulè were gorgeous too & bigger desserts than we expected - ice cream soft and creamy, plums perfectly poached under the creme brulè. Food heaven 😋 Thank You all! EDIT Have been back many times now as a couple and a group. Food often consistently fab. Except sadly, for a Sunday roast we had. I am sure the meat was processed/ ready carved. Excellent food, fine old pub building too, food was a bit slow to come out of kitchen (but I reckon they were very busy). You wouldn’t expect much from a pub in the middle of nowhere just off the M20 by the ‘Stop 24’ truck stop. You’d be wrong. Clearly it’s a local restaurant not a destination, but instead of heading for ‘Stop 24’ on your way to the Channel Tunnel you’ll get a better meal at a decent price for the price of a five minute diversion if you’ve got some time to kill. I’ll go again.

Lovely old pub and friendly service from the staff. Went there for Sunday lunch. Other dishes are on the menu if you don’t fancy a roast and caters for vegans as well. The downside is that it is quite pricey, puddings are a whopping £8.50 and mains were £13-21, and they include a 10% service charge on top regardless of the size of your party, which is a bit cheeky if under say 8 of you. I had the lamb which was a bit fatty but tasted nice. Cauliflower cheese had a really runny sauce and it wasn’t very nice. Otherwise, a good selection of veggies and lovely roasties and homemade yorkshires. Great selection of puddings, again with vegan options. Would visit again but the service charge needs to be removed from the bills.

Booked one nights camping before tunnel as we have in previous years. Turned up to find landlady had decided to hold a family bbq in the camping field. Rugby balls and footballs being kicked around our van all afternoon by adults who obviously got more and more enthusiastic and less careful the more they drank. Asked if we could be moved to another pitch away from that field ( previously told not. Possibly) we did Move and then went to the restaurant for dinner. Firstly put on what I assume was the table the staff normally eat at right next to the kitchen so asked to move as the place was virtually empty apart from all the bbq quests buying drinks. We we moved to a nicer table and settled down with a nice cold drink and ordered our food. My chicken was like trying to eat the sole of a shoe and my husbands steak was cold! We were asked twice if everything was ok and said yes because I was so fed up of moaning. The third time of asking though my husband did say all was not well and the manageress apologised and deducted the food from our final bill. The staff were all lovely and really hard working so not their fault . I feel if the owners want to hold a party in the camping field they should have informed all those with bookings before hand. Forewarned is forearmed . We could have decided that was acceptable or not and booked elsewhere. Never Again!

Stopped for 1 night for a nearby event. It was a nice, fairly quiet site, although you could hear the traffic from the nearby M20, but it was not intrusive. I pitched a tent for the night. The ground is level and virtually stone free. The facilities are a bit dated. Hence, I waited to get home for a shower. Food at the pub was a bit gourmet for me. The only thing on the menu for me was the Ham, egg, and chips, which was fantastic and an ample portion. All the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. A lovely place to stay and would recommend.

Very good food with interesting and traditional menu offerings. Sea Bass was cooked perfectly with delicious side of gnocchi and samphire. The pork belly also was excellent and beautifully prepapred and presented. The BLT ciabatta was toasted to perfection with a wonderful balance of tomato, rich bacon, fresh lettuce and mayo. Service was very good; prompt, attentive, and well timed and professional. The location is very good to the countryside as well as close to the channel tunnel with plenty of parking and good seating options both indoor and outside. Would come again. Recommend.

Very unwelcoming, asked for a table for 2 hardly anyone in the pub 6pm....barman asked a waitress then the manager, neither of which looked at us, or showed any interest whatsoever, then barman said you will have to wait till 7. No apology didn't offer a drink whilst we waited. We obviously left and took our business elsewhere. Awful unfriendly atmosphere.

£25 to park our motorhome on gravel for the night 😲 The toilets were clean but very rustic. We had a meal, 2 x baguettes and 2 glasses of wine, which was nearly £40. The young waitress was very pleasant and that's about it. For us, the best part was the location, as it was only 5 mins to the Euro Tunnel. Wouldn't stay again.

This place was great, seemed quite busy for one bartender/waiter (surprise sunshine the likely cause) but Colin took everything in his stride, welcoming, friendly and genuine service with a smile and no signs of the pressure 😊 Food was fab too, but the service definitely made the is 5* experience. Thank you

Lovely little English pub, the food was well presented and tasty with a good selection available. The service was very good, the bartender being polite and friendly. Had to grab my own salt and pepper but otherwise couldn't have asked for anymore more.

Absolutely amazing food! Spicy prawn and veggies were amazing and the short rib starter even better! The service was prompt, friendly and efficient even though it was busy for only one person. Highly recommended 10/10

We took my in laws here for a late mothers day meal. Not everywhere is open and serving food late afternoon on a Monday, so I was happy when I found this pub. I had called ahead to check they had room, but I needn't have bothered as there was plenty of space. The bar was full of locals, and the welcome was very warm. The lovely barman showed us to a table and gave us some menus. We ordered a wine (obvs) 2 beers....I want to say maybs San Miguel and a lemonade. My in laws don't generally eat a lot so we had 3 started between us, a prawn and salmon cocktail and 2 lots of the halloumi fries. The halloumi was delicious. We all know I like my cheese and I was not disappointed. We followed this a ham egg and chips, a cajun chicken burger, a beef burger and a cod burger. Everyone said the food was delicious and all plates were cleared. I thoroughly enjoyed the cod burger. Then we had 2 chocolate orange bread and butter puddings (one with ice cream, one with custard) and a pecan pie (I think). The pudding was a bit rich for me with the massive slab of ice cream bit delicious all the same. We had a few more drinks, maybe a coffee and the bill came to around £160. The pub had a decent atmosphere, a roaring fire and excellent service. I didn't use the facilities but no complaints came from my family. Would defo recommend and go back for more!

We had booked a room in the adjoining B&B (highly recommended) and also reserved a table at the Famous Ship Inn. Our drive from our home Devon took us over 7 hours (thank you M25 and M20) so we were only just in time for our reservation. The inn itself is very old but we were shown to a table in a modern conservatory on the south side. The food and service were impeccable and the place was doing a great trade, which created a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. This was an excellent dining experience.
