Eleven of us had Christmas dinner on Saturday evening. The meals were delicious, every single meal, the staff were attentive but not intrusive and got the service spot on. We were all impressed and would highly recommend a meal at this pub. The atmosphere was nice, music in the background but not too loud and we could hear each other. Well done and thank you.

This is the first ever negative review I’ve given on Trip Advisor but it’s well deserved. We visited The White Horse at 7pm on a Sunday evening which appeared to be very much open with people still dining. Upon entering (6 people), we could see a member of staff (landlady I assume) roll her eyes. She quickly proceeded to tell us rather abruptly that they were closed. This was fairly confusing with the amount of people still in the pub. We explained we were simply after 1 drink before going to see Xmas lights locally, another roll of the eyes followed by her telling us she’d had a long day and we couldn’t have a round of drinks. So people… if you want to spend your hard earned money in a pub I would suggest you look elsewhere as the staff (landlady) is pretty rude here!

Eleven of us had a meal on the Saturday evening. We had the set Christmas menu. All the meals were delicious and the plates hot. The staff were welcoming and professional. The atmosphere was lovely and friendly. We were a large group yet every course from the starter, the main course and dessert was excellent. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone who visits Romsey. It’s a hidden gem and the background music wasn’t intrusive and about right. There is ample parking outside too. Well done.

1. Could only order Festive Christmas lunch is everyone in our group ordered it, so had to order all from December menu - this is not service! 2. One vegan option for lunch - which was under cooked Cauliflower 'steak'- very poor. One vegan option for dessert- apple, granola compote- a breakfast dish! 3. All the desserts bar one contained nuts - very ill-thought out in this era of allergies - certainly didn't expect this. Definitely sub-standard to what we had expected. Very disappointing!

This place is a fantastic old school pup/restaurant. As soon as you walk in the door there's a lovely open fire and you can almost smell the history in the place with the ghost of the past travelers easy to see 😉 But it's not the building or the wonderful atmosphere that's the talking point. This place is all about food. ( The menu is seasonal and subject to change) All the food is cooked fresh from an extensive menu that caters for all. There's a Monday to Saturday menu of multiple choices and for anyone with an appetite I would highly recommend you try the ribs or if you get the chance the belly pork. The curries are all authentic and some really pack. a punch. The clam chowder from the starters Is off the chart. The Sunday roast is without a doubt one of the best you'll ever have from a pub/restaurant. The two landlords john and Gaye have been at the establishment for well over a decade John is the head chef and a lovely man who will mingle when he eventually gets a break from the kitchen. And Gaye is front of house making sure the whole thing runs like clockwork. lovely little gem hidden in the heart of Hampshire this place is well worth a visit for its food and its lovely warm atmosphere. The portions are ALL very generous so you'll go in hungry and come out happy 😊 They do have disabled access ♿ and cater for all.

We visited for a festive lunch with friends. The staff were so dismissive bordering on rude. No one came to the table for drinks order so we had to go to the bar and wait to order drinks leaving our dinner on the table. The girl behind the bar was disinterested and gave one word answers. Pretty unbelievable really. The food was average. The onion soup was a bowl of onions in very little, strong tasting broth, the turkey dinner was good. My desert was lemon meringue and it looked like it had been dropped. Won’t bother again too many great places we could have gone to.

The pub was recommended by a friend who said the food was excellent but I think we must have gone to the wrong pub in Ampfield! For a Friday night the pub wasn't very busy and there were only two other couples eating. We both decided on a parsnip and carrot soup starter which was so thick and gooey it definitely wasn't soup it was also accompanied by thick super market white bread as they had run out of the granary bread normally served. I had pork belly which was ok but my wife's chosen main dish macaroni cheese must have been made during the day then zapped in a microwave before serving it was so dry it was inedible. When asked everything was ok we reported the dry macaroni and got an apology. Unfortunately my wife was still hungry and decided to have a pudding but also most of that was also left because it didn't taste good. To be fair the waitress did take off the cost of the pudding. It's so disappointing when you have a bad experience like this especially as our friends said how good it was here. Sadly a pub we won't be going back to

I am so disappointed and disgusted with our recent visit here. My family and I live locally and are regulars, but after this visit, we will NOT be going there again. After a few drinks, we asked what time the kitchen closes and John, the landlord, looked at the time and said the kitchen closes at 10 to 9 which was the exact time we asked, coincidentally. We sat down to finish our drinks and then the landlady, Gaynor, brought over menus, and told us to order our food quickly. We did exactly that, but then during our entire meal we could hear the drunken landlord and the landlady, who were about 5 meters away from where we were sat, talking loudly and negatively about us the entire time and how unacceptable it was for us to have ordered food at that time, despite the landlady having encouraged us to order. This kind of behaviour is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. This shows a clear lack of communication between the staff and we, the paying customers, were made to feel awkward whilst eating due to this. Because of this terrible experience, we won’t be returning and couldn’t recommend this pub less. Not to mention - you get charged a different amount for the same drink depending on if it’s the owners serving you or the staff! Very shady business.

Individual cauliflower cheeses along with generous portions of meat, vegetables, and great Yorkshire puddings were outstanding. I had the trio of meats, and everyone else had a single meat dish. The beef was really tasty and cooked to perfection. The deserts were again generous in size and very tasty. Priced competitively with similar establishments, but this is a cut above the rest. We went here in December the 22nd with friends. Our Christmas Meal. The atmosphere was lovely and felt very Christmassy. I had the set Christmas Meal and the others of the menu. We have been to this pub/ restaurant on many occasions and never had a bad meal, but on this occasion I was disappointed with the Roast Potatoes, which to me are integral part of a Roast and Christmas Meal. It was nice to revisit this pub restaurant that we've enjoyed a number of times in the past. Particularly good was the addition of a separate curry menu (which several of us ordered from) to the normal a la carte. There were 8 of us and everyone enjoyed their meals. However, the staff were much less attentive than usual and for some reason we were seated in a large empy part of the restautant at the rear, which was cold.

Was invited by friends to a Saturday lunch at this pub. The menu is old fashioned, the food nearly passable and expensive. It’s quite clear this pub is living in the past of the good old days and not moved with the times. I presume the landlord does not get out much and see what’s happening in the food scene and flexible enough to bring his menu into what people want today.

I've been driving past the White Horse ever since I moved to the area but didn't drop in until 2018, a straight case of having become stuck in my ways... The food was very good, certainly a cut above standard pub lunch, with thoughtfully sourced ingredients, well cooked and served. And the building itself ticks a whole load of pub tropes, low beams, subdued lighting, and a real hearth which when we visited on a dreary wet January day had a roaring fire blazing away in it, it's that sort of place. There was a decent (if typical) selection of Wine, and a range of beer on tap, and on draught too. We stuck to the fireplace, but the pub is surprisingly large so it would easily be able to accommodate a large group, noisy group, couples and children, without people getting annoyed. Oh and the staff were friendly, service quick, and we were made to feel welcome with the kids, and without. Prices are completely reasonable, so I would recommend the White Horse for lunch, dinner, or drinks if you'd like a decent pub meal.

Very overpriced pint prices £5:60 upwards for a pint of basic beer. Also got VERY ill after eating a burger from here (weds 19th) not good obviously undercooked or poor hygiene.

Scary hygiene rating. To get one out 5 makes me feel ill since eating there. Haven’t got anything else to add just filling characters now.

End of the night visit with a large group of us. Service was great and live music gave a great atmosphere.

Nice pub lunch but £19 for fish & chips, £9 for a desert is stretching my decision to return tbh. Follow the Coach & Horses in Cadbam who have a £12 lunch menu & is perfectly good.
