The Horns Inn in Test Valley

Went to the horns on Sunday 5th with some friends, first of all the bar staff are very friendly and polite we decided to have food and on the special board they had curry so thought I'd try the chicken tikka, when it came out the portion size was really small and very disappointing, when I complained to the land lord I was told, well you shouldn't have ordered it so you're no for next not to get it and he said that the portion size are down to our supplier,so there not fresh there frozen and it looked like one of them cheap curry's from tesco, for the price of just over £15 this was a complete rip off, being a regular to this pub I thought the landlord kerion would have be more professional and offer a refund or either a complimentary drink but didn't do either, I don't normally write reviews with negative feed back but the way I was treated I feel I have to, see the photo and make your mind up

It was a great pub with friendly staff and locals. We had a family wake there. The quality of the food was very good and plenty of it. They have a lovely outdoor area.The new landlord checked that everything was going well. It is the second wake our family has had there. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

The food was great & the lady who was looking after us was very nice. The problem was we had pre ordered our food and yet it still took more than an hour for our food to come out. Such a shame because everything else was good

A table of 3 had just ordered before us we were the only ones in the pub. I ordered the meat lasagna. We waited nearly an hour before our meals came. By this time the bar was busy so the cook brought us are meals without ceremony plonked them on the table and left. I think if he needs to serve tables he should have clean whites on and employ some front of house hospitality skills. I started my meal and found the lasagne a little watery and tasteless, the garlic bread bland and the undressed salad looked like left overs from a previous meal. Continuing with my meal I found the center stone cold. A this point the cook had returned to the bar I called him over and told him how disappointed I was with the meal. He responded with it wasn’t his fault as he had followed the time instructions and did I want him to heat it up again. To which I replied you didn’t make a very good job the first time could I have a refund ? Without reply he went to till to make out he was refunding me (which he didn’t) and went back to the kitchen. I have been to the pub before and meet the landlord and returned due to the fact he always puts on a good cask ale. I think he would be very disappointed to find such poor food and service coming from his kitchen. I will not return again and defiantly will not recommend the pub to anyone.

The food was beyond basic house salad consisting of 1 tomato 4 slices of cucumber, and lettuce was meant to be grilled chicken, and we got a few pieces of southern fried chicken ,would 1000 % recommend or ever return

Well! What can I say about this little gem of a place. First time we have been here In years and what a change! New landlord has obviously worked hard to improve this place. Very nice welcome by new barstaff on entry. Food was delicious and fresh. Reasonably priced too. Very clean and nicely decorated. Highly recommend and shall definitely be returning.

Very disappointed with the food we had last night. I had Hunters chicken and my wife had tuna baguette melt. The chips were barely edible as they were the usual take away style chips but were cooked to almost hollow and full of fat. We asked if the tuna baguette was cold with melted cheese on top as warm tuna is awful and was informed it was which when it arrived the whole thing was microwaved hot so the cheese melted, obviously she wouldn't eat it. Hunters chicken was tasty but microwaved and tough. Don't be fooled the chips in the picture are not what you'll get.

Food was fabulous but place was like a creche with loads of kids, couldn't hear ourselves speak.

Great food, large portions, good value, great real ale, particularly the Buttcomes Bitter. Lovely wood fire in the inglenook every day, great touch, really cosy.

It had been far too long since I visited the wonderful Horns Inn, and to no surprise it’s got even better, a delicious fresh menu and polite and professional service from Zoe!

Booked for my daughter’s 21st birthday. There were 5 of us eating then her 3 friends turned up for drinks. Spent a fortune on food and drink only for the pub to turn the lights off when the youngsters who stayed on for a few drinks were made to feel no longer welcome! Very poor from the management, will never get my custom again! Overcharging already very expensive drinks, dog pissing in the floor in the dining area also.

Not been here for almost a year and always the atmosphere was good. Nice cosy pub. Had food this time and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was, finely! Well done to the person who has taken it over to turn it into a quality pub again. This place use to be my local years ago until I moved away from Rownhams. Now I know the food quality has improved, I'll be back again soon as parents still live in the area.

Went for a Sunday lunch food was great especially the beef and the gravy.

We were staying at the nearby Premier Inn, and fortunately the associated Beefeater was fully booked, I asked for a bit of local guidance from the hotel reception, to be told that this pub is two minutes off site. A missed trick for many as we have used Beefeater many times before and have mainly been disappointed. The staff here are very welcoming, a great selection of good beers. We had a platter, followed by a lamb pie and a chicken chorizo pie. All very good pub standard food. The pies were particularly tasty. Good portion sizes and well presented. All in with two drinks £56. Nice atmosphere low music with an 80’s vibe.

Even though this pub seems like a locals pub, all I can say is all the guys behind the bar welcomed us (out of town) amazingly. The food we had on our 3 night stay in the area was fantastic. I couldn’t recommend this pub more highly if our are staying in the Nursling area. Thank you guys. The Cherrimans

What has happened to the Horns Inn. They used to serve a wonderful Sunday roast here with the most delicious gravy ever. Suddenly the gravy is decidedly average and parsnips are to hard to eat. And cauliflower cheese and broccoli every Sunday. A bit more variety would help. The meat is still delicious but they always have gammon, no pork. It's on a downward spiral I feel.

Overpriced food which was nothing special. It was an averagely busy Friday night and food took 1 hour 40 minute to come out after being told it was a half hour wait. Won’t be returning anytime soon.

Landlord really accommodating on arrival with large group, including children. Super friendly and relaxed! We had a lovely evening, thank you 😊

Our U8's football team stayed in the nearby premier inn. The restaurant there was full so we went to the Horns Inn. The landlord was great! He made space for our large group and couldnt do enough. He was great with the excited kids. Really relaxed evening.

All round a very pleasant environment with a good outside area. Lots of choice. I didn't notice anything specifically for children. Reasonable prices and good quality food and a good choice of wines and other alcohol available. Friendly and helpful service. Nice decor, which makes for a good place for a quick drink or a meal. It is on a busy road junction, but if you avoid rush hour or are patient, you can get into the car park.

Nice garden, busy but not full on a pleasant evening

Normally an excellent quiz night on a Tuesday, run by the talented Paul Mico, but spoilt by one team of 'Ladies' blatantly cheating with smart 'phones. Kerien or Paul need to stop this or they'll be losing trade & spoil a great night out for the regulars.

Needed a stop after leaving Romsey we only had drinks in the wonderful beer garden. The pie menu is extensive so we shall return

Very very poor, mash potato from a packet which had bin microwaved to much. Vegetables that were rock hard, to be fair the pie was ok. Will not be returning

Very disappointed, ordered food my mum had scampi meal I had the breakfast brunch with chips food was cold and scampi cold not enjoyable will not be returning.....

Good food good price nice friendly service

Nice old pub that has been done up , food, and a pretty average , and reasonable prices seem to change hands fairly often . 6 of us ate here today. We were not really impressed, fairly long wait couple of meals tasteless and not very hot .

There is a new Chef at the Horns Inn, as a table of 9 we all enjoyed our meals. Lovely back ground music playing, nice atmosphere is a lovely pub, helpful service with a smile. will defieatly be going back

We were passing by and decided to try our luck at getting Sunday Lunch. We Hadn’t booked but got a table at 12:45. We were lucky as the place soon filled up with diners. We ordered Roast Beef and Lamb. My plate arrived 15 minutes after ordering. My slices of beef were perfect. Medium-rare or just over, honey roasted parsnips, swede mash and cauliflower cheese! Perfect roast potatoes and an obviously home made Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was more a sauce than a gravy but the taste was deep and flavourful. My wife ordered the gammon. 2 decent slices of succulent gammon, served with the above mentioned vegetables and Yorkie were perfect. The addition of a cider and cream sauce made it even more opulent. Staff were attentive but under pressure slightly. Overall, Fantastic meal and very reasonably priced.

I celebrated my 50th birthday here with about 20 friends, Kieron made us very welcome and even gave us a dedicated area to all sit together, the kindness and hospitality shown by kieron and his staff was amazing, he went above and beyond to make sure we all had a good time x thank you and il shall return

Sunday roast, the meat was nice but sadly after a long wait the dinner was lukewarm.

Absolute shambles, had christmas dinner here with my dad and brothers safe to say we won't be returning next year. Firstly, customer service was not great. No one asked if our food was ok. No hospitality and was very clearly understaffed. Under cooked food Not worth £60.

Very overpriced food & drinks. Below par quality of food. Weirdest tasting mashed potato i have ever tried. If they are going to charge that much then the quality of what they're selling needs to improve. On a positive they do a good Guinness.

A very dissapointing experience visiting with family recently. Parts of our food order were forgotten and the quality of the food is really bad. We paid £7 for 2 bowls of chips that were forgotten until almost the end of the meal and half empty. A desert came out so late we were already leaving and had been forgotten. Extra charge for bacon in the baguette however there was next to nothing in there and the side salad was extremely dissapointing. Other family members said their dishes were cold and not good either. To top it off a dog weed on the middle of the restaurant floor and even when the bar staff were made aware, it took about 15 minutes for the chef to come out and clear it up on his hands and knees!

First time back and under new management. Food was so much better and the new landlord seems to have his head screwed on and has some great ideas. Hopefully he can turn things around and get it back on track.

Visited for the first time for quite a while. New landlord has worked his magic. Excellent beers and very decent food. Pub is spacious and staff attentive. Right on the number 4 bus route, we'll definitely be back. Cheers!

I last visited this pub with, my wife, shortly after lockdown. I wasn't very impressed and vowed never to return. Having learned it is under new management and the real ales are being kept well I ventured a return visit, to meet some friends. What a transformation! There were four excellent real ales available as well as the usual glitterati of ciders and lagers. The staff were courteous and attentive. We were impressed enough to order food. This came in reasonable time, was of good quality and was reasonably priced. Thanks to a competent manager/cellarman it's another decent real ale pub back on the list. Well worth a visit.

A booking was made for me and my husband for an evening meal on 23rd September 2022, due to the Beefeater being closed. On arrival we were told there was no booking and I know there was for 8.00 o'clock !!! But a table was available, (funny that, as only three other tables had people eating at them) so we both ordered ham, egg and chips, we waited for nearly an hour and what came up was peas as hard as bullets, cold chips and fried eggs that were so cold it was almost like they had been taken straight out of a fridge. When we told the waitress, she apologised, took our meals away and five minutes later brought both plates back and explained that the kitchen was now closed and that she had "put the eggs under the grill to heat them up a bit!!!!" We both ate most of the ham, some cold chips and left the rest. We had been travelling for approx 5 to 6 hours and come the evening were hungry and looking forward to a decent meal. How very disappointed we were that we didn't get that here and how very certain we are that we would NEVER eat at this establishment again. We would rather go to a petrol station and buy a couple bags of crisps.

Have not been there for a while due to work. It has changed hands apparently and the Sunday roast is not as good .

We enjoyed our first Saturday evening there last week, great atmosphere, lovely friendly staff and lots of laughs with the locals. We returned the following day for a Sunday Roast...Chicken and Beef it was just the ticket, perfectly cooked & presented and the gravy is best we've ever had...Amazing !! Lovely friendly, attentive, hard working staff nothing was too much trouble. We will be returning and recommending this place.

Not a huge menu or large range of beers but perfectly nice and very convenient for anyone staying in the Premiere Inn next door.

We recently hired the Horns Inn for my Mothers Wake, we had a buffet for 40 people and we couldn't of been happier. There was plenty of room inside and outside, which was great to sit in especially with the recent weather we have had. Overall the Food was Great, the Venue was Great and Jayne and all of her Staff were Great. We would recommend the Horns Inn for any private function or get together.

I'm sorry to say the food was that bad, it made me feel ill. No Chef, who's cooking then Would not recommend

If you can get served in this pub it’s a miracle, staff like to do anything except serve customer, use to be a good place to drink and eat, now avoid at all cost

Wrong drinks,expensive food for what it was and not a great choice either. Ended up going nxt door to balmoral for pudding as rubbish choice at horns. Staff weren't rude but couldve smiled a bit as looked totally miserable. Wouldnt return again

Always intended to visit but after a decade or more, I just got round to it. Much more spacious than I anticipated, good decor, lovely food, friendly staff. There is a garden and plenty of parking. We'll worth a visit.

Thursday lunch , dinner and a pint ! Why not. London Pride - well kept crisp pint. The first pint was a little tepid but the second was a lot cooler and both tasted as they should. Fish and chips. For me it was a little bit mixed. It wasn't the cheapest fish and chips, and price isn't a problem as long as it is good value. £13.95 Breakdown. Chips were good and crunchy. Not greasy. Fish was a good size and cooked well. Good flaking meat and not overcooked at all. There is a but! It's a small one , but the batter was a little oily for us. Nothing major. Peas good. Had to ask for tartar sauce and was not homemade.( I don't think). The lemon wedge was just about visible! It felt a bit overpriced. Staff were friendly and laid back

Friendly staff, accomodating. the pub is clean and well presented. Nice drink selection. Carpark could benefit from some lighting (like a wall light or spotlight) to help in the dark.

This pub was clean and tidy, directed towards dining. Unfortunately the prices were extortionate. £4.90sterling for Guinness , £4.20 for watery piss trying to pass as bitter. Unfortunately I didn't try the food as I'd spent up before getting hungry. The staff were reasonably friendly altho as a stranger in town I felt they were more interested in keeping the locals happy. I think I'll be going next door to the beefeater pub if I ever call around this parish again.

Great staff very welcoming lovely food

Popped there for a coffee with a friend one Friday evening around 8pm. Girls behind the bar were very friendly, but advised that the coffee machine had just been switched off. They said it would take 20 minutes for a coffee, which was fine. One of the girls came over with our drinks after about 15 minutes. My friend then ordered an alcoholic drink, but had to take it back as we noticed there was still lipstick on the glass. Girls were again, helpful & apologetic. All this side, I will definitely be popping back.

Went for a Sunday lunch with my Wife and my Dad. Food was delicious my wife and I had a couple of the Vegan leek pie very nice!
