The Mill Arms Restaurant in Test Valley

Our family of four plus grandparents had a fabulous lunchtime meal here today. Very busy, which was nice to see, but that didn’t diminish the impeccable service or quality of the food. All meals (including the kids) were amazing. Lovely feel to the place, definitely returning.

We went here on a recommendation for a Sunday lunch. I had booked in advance as we brought our dog with us. Just as well as it was very busy. Extremely pleased with the service, the food and the warm and friendly atmosphere. The meal was the most enjoyable we have had during our two week holiday in the south of England. Wish we had a pub like this near where we live in the Cotswolds. Excellent value food and ambience.

Mill Arms Inn is a lovely place to stay if you are exploring the area for walks, cycle paths, etc. Our double room had a HUGE bed, plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate facilities, an en-suite shower and toilet. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfast is lovely. There is also cereals and toast, tea, coffee, orange or apple juice and so forth. Minor negs is that there were a couple of things that were below standard: towel rail hanging off the bathroom door, shower handset couldn’t be locked in a higher position as the button was unusable, just minor niggles, nothing that would stop us going there again. Prices are a little steep for mid-September but we enjoyed it very much and would definitely stay again. There is access by train for hikers not wanting to drive, the station is only 100m away but surprisingly the trains didn’t disturb or bother us at all.

Visited for food while staying in the area with family. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were 10 of us in total and they were able to accommodate us all comfortably without us being crammed in. The food was very good, with great portion sizes. There were a few requests for adjustments to the menu and the kitchen got our order completely right. A friendly atmosphere, dog friendly, and I will definitely visit again.

We stopped for some lunch after a long dog walk. We were happy to see it was dog friendly & they were serving food all day on a Saturday. We ordered a burger & a lasagne. They were very good. Home made. Good portions. Very tasty. Quick service. Polite staff.

We stayed at the Mill Arms overnight to attend a nearby wedding...early check in was accommated, comfy beds, delicious breakfast freshly cooked ...and good quality biscuits in the room...rare these days but much appreciated 😀

As a group of 14 we visited the Mill Arms for dinner on 1st June 2024. From making the initial booking until the time we finished our meal and left the service was friendly helpful and efficient. Our food came out together, piping hot and well presented. Everyone felt the choice and quality of food was very good. The staff were attentive and we all had very enjoyable evening. Would thoroughly recommend this venue.

We stopped off for a lunch break whilst travelling home and enjoyed the warm welcome and great food. The quality and presentation of the meal justified the price and we all enjoyed our visit, even the dogs 😀

I got a puncture nearby and went into the pub whilst I waited for the AA. I had a coffee and was able to log into the WiFi, taking shelter from the rain. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Thanks!

We stayed for only 1 night but wish it had been for longer.. the surroundings were lovely and the family room was just perfect! All of the staff were welcoming and breakfast was delicious. Would highly recommend:) look forward to our next visit .

Review for lunch only. After the change of management at our go to pub for many years. We sought out the Mill Arms for lunch after visiting Mottisfont. Unfortunately, the food was only ok. Except the cheese and ham omelette, which was cooked very well apart from the excessive use of a very strong cheddar, which ruined the meal. My steak was perfectly cooked. However, it was almost tasteless apart from the accompanying pepper sauce which had an overwhelming vinegar element. Thus, in conclusion we were disappointed. I was worried on entering the bar with the overpowering music, which I believe was for the staff’s benefit as we found it annoying. So, still searching.

Stopped off for a bite to eat after visiting Mottisfont with old university friends from 60 years ago. Delicious food with smaller portions for those of us with smaller appetites. Good range of choice on the menu - we’ll have to return to sample the desserts.

The setting is nice. We ate outside and the service was quite quick. Although there aren't many vegetarian or vegan options, something you can definitely improve on, the food they did have was quite good. Would recommend.

We have had several Sunday roasts at The Mill Arms and every one exceptional, the best in the area by far, and you're always assured of a friendly greeting and very efficient service by the staff. Would highly recommend it.

A lovely country pub. Great location brilliant local beer and wonderful food. We had not been here for years,pass it regularly, and it was nice to see in in very good nick. Has a lovely large garden and conservatory. A real jewel of a pub right next to the railway station.

I had a skittles evening here for my 70th Birthday. The hot buffet was excellent and the skittles room was perfect with 2 skittle alleys for the 28 of us.

We had the best Take Away from here!!! It was lovely and hot and fresh!! Just what we needed when we couldn’t be bothered to cook on a rainy day! The salmon supreme was amazing!!

I do a monthly club walk and this pub was our start and finish point where we had lunch. The staff were great, service was prompt and best of all they had salad cream. This pub is also a short walk from a local train station.

A really nice place to eat, great food, great service, great atmosphere, lovely venue. Caters well for vegans. Plum spring rolls Sourdough bread with olives Veg Curry Beyond Burger Salad with chickpeas, avocado and sun dried tomato Bakewell Tart with Vegan vanilla ice cream. All diets catered for including gluten free.

Came here for Sunday Lunch a few weeks ago. Firstly, brilliant service. Friendly staff, good range of drinks, nice atmosphere. It was nice also to see that over Christmas the hours were reasonable - open a few hours on Christmas Day, not all of New Years Eve etc so staff could have time off. Secondly, really really good food. We preordered, all came together warm, good portions and reasonably priced. Desserts I didn't have but I really regretted my decision as they looked great. Shame I don't live nearby, would come all the time.

What a gem of a pub! Popped in for a drink mid walk with muddy dog and boots and we received such a warm welcome. The whole place had such a friendly atmosphere. We will be back.

Didn't stay long as it was a brief break stop, however the chips were amazing and service was friendly and fast. My partner also confirmed the garlic bread was adequate as well 😂 will be visiting again.

Travelled to the area for a wedding and booked a double for 1 night at the Mill Arms because its the nearest to the venue, but I'm so glad we did as it was lovely. Rooms were lovely, spacious and light, great en suite shower and toiletries, well stocked tea station, and possibly the highlight- the cooked breakfast with local butcher produce. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and there's great after hours access once the pub is closed. Definatey coming back with the kids and dog for a longer stay.

Good lunch with decent portion sizes. Smaller adult portions available for some meals which pleased my elderly mother.

Went for a late Sunday lunch with friends after a visit to Mottisfont. Three of us had a roast (potatoes were amazing), and my wife had the pie, which looked incredible (and she tells me it was!). All had dessert, a drink with the meal and a coffee after. Bill came to £120 (£30 per head), excluding service. Nice place. Great value, tasty food. Will return if in the area.

4 of us had a wonderful Sunday lunch here,very well cooked & so tasty. Good portions, lovely staff, great atmosphere no wonder it won pub of the year. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a Sunday lunch here you won't regret it.

A very pleasant pub in the countryside with great service from their staff. A good location to watch trains as it's next to the Romsey - Salisbury line.

We went here for dinner. Lovely menu, lots to choose from, reasonably priced and tasted great. Coming again whilst we are down here as unfortunately we live 2+hours away.

Had a " quick " lunch at Mills Arms. Ordered Surf and Turf. One of the best I ever had! As a desert I had a Apple and Berry crumble with custard. Delicious! 🤤 Great service by Sian and Vicky and well done to the chef! Highly recommend! 👌🙂

We visited the Mill Arms today with a couple of friends and our dog and had a thoroughly fantastic lunch. We asked to sit outside (in the rain!) as our friends are from a tier two area and the staff were very accommodating. We felt very welcome and were particularly impressed by the young waitress who served us as she was so friendly and attentive despite weather conditions being terrible! The menu had excellent choice including good vegetarian options and the food when it arrived was delicious. We will definitely be returning again (though hopefully to an indoor table!). Highly recommend this lovely Pub.

Friday lunchtime, quiet. Very attentive and friendly staff. Lasagne and chilli were the main courses. Halloumi with tomato, balsamic and onions shared starter (I know cheapskate). If you sit in the conservatory you can watch the trains go by.

We had a really lovely Sunday Roast here today , great value but excellent quality . Friendly and competent bar and waiting staff , really nice atmosphere Lovely garden , and inside table very well spaced .The pub is very clean and completely adhering to COVID measures, it felt very safe but un-intrusive Would highly recommend

I’m at the Mill Arms as I write this - the bed is lovely and comfortable (we’re in room 6), my son has the sofa bed and slept well. Bathroom well equipped. Staff lovely, friendly but respectful of social distancing. Breakfast is very tasty - having an evening meal tonight and have no reason to think it would be anything less. We came for a 2 nighter to visit Paultons Park, and would absolutely come again. Really lovely place

We visited for a quick drink on Sunday 26th July and were very impressed with the safety precautions that had been implemented since Covid 19, so decided to book a table for dinner at a later date.We had an amazing meal (Cajun RumpSteak & Mushroom Salad) with a couple of side dishes, all very well presented and extremely tasty., We definitely recommend dining at The Mill Arms and we will return in the near future.

Popped in for a drink, my wife asked for Sherry, was served in a schooner, but the bottle had ran out so only half a glass, but still charged 3.25, I would have accepted if we had been given an apology for the bottle running out and charged say 2.00. So we will not go back. My beer was fine.Very poor customer relations.

We held our company Xmas Dinner at the Mill Arms last night. Food absolutely delicious, all arrived together and piping hot. Staff attentive and helpful. Really great evening. Comments from guests who had been to other more expensive and fancy venues, that this was much better standard of food and atmosphere. We will be back to be sure

Our local village organised a bowling evening at the Mill Arms. For a very reasonable price we had use of 2 alleys and really tasty (pre-ordered) food. Can't fault it. The staff were friendly and helpful.The pub is also a lovely place for lunches, particularly if you have done a local walk.

Wanted a relatively cheap and easy option for a couple of nights whilst fishing in the area. Pub was easy to find and has good easy access parking. Right opposite station ( a bonus if you like trains - like the husband does!). Room was big enough with a bathroom that had both bath and shower. Lots of hot water and excellent shower pressure. Usual coffee, biscuits etc with adequate toiletries. Bar staff friendly. Food ok standard pub fare with a few specials. Breakfast fresh cooked and good. Would (and probably will ) return with the dog. Easy train access to Salisbury or Southampton Friday trip or shopping. Quiet secluded just round the corner from NT Mottisfont.

Really great 3 nights stay. Separate entrance to rooms from large rear car park. Lovely clean quiet room. Comfortable Beds, Splendid shower. Really friendly staff and we were provided with a good breakfast. We had 1 evening meal which was also good. Location was just right for our various visits and we intend to come back for visit to New Forest.

Waited 40 minutes at lunchtime, when it wasn't busy, for our meal. When it turned up, mine was inedible. The 'chef' clearly didn't know how to make lasagne. A dish turned up with fat at the bottom, then a layer of mince balls which were raw inside, then a few lasagne sheets, topped by some grated cheese. Tip, don't order the lasagne here unless there is a change of 'chef'. Our friends had fish and chips which were fine, so go for that.

Lovely friendly staff, very nice pub in a great spot for walking. However, although there was only one other group eating on a quiet Tuesday evening, the kitchen had run out of some very basic pub menu items. I had chosen cod and chips but 10 minutes later was told they had run out of cod, so I said fine I'll have a burger....a few minutes later was told they had run out of burgers! Third choice lasagne.....result! It was very nice but they really should be a bit more organised!

We had a meal tonight for my birthday , 26 family and friends, all food came out together and hot and tasted amazing, service was brilliant well done to everyone involved. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I have been to the Mill Arms frequently over the last year and have always found the staff to be welcoming and very friendly. The food is excellent especially the Sunday lunches and we look forward to many more visits!
