A cut above the usual pub grub place. Food is of a high standard and service first rate. Recommend the garlic pizette and the onion rings.

Lovely warm welcoming pub. Food was so lovely and the service was incredibly quick. Also not forgetting our waitress, Nicky! She made sure we were looked after well and nothing was too much trouble for her. Will definitely be back.

Excellent gastropub. Very busy on Saturday night but still excellent service from Penny and the other serving staff. Our table was slightly cramped for 6 people but Penny saw the problem and reset another table for us to move to without being asked.Good varied menu. Food very nice. Recommended.

We booked the chilworth arms as it was my birthday, my husband went to the toilet and found they smelt, no where you could dry your hands, the door was filthy. On our way out i complained to be told they have closed the gents toilet as they had a problem. It would have been a good idea if one of the staff informed everyone who was there

Manager was absolutely disgusting. I went into the chilworth arms for food and he bought me out a plate of food that my dog wouldn’t even eat. And when I returned the food I was given a passive aggressive sorry as if I wasn’t accepted to be in that establishment. and told that everything which was made was up to standard. Unfortunately it’s ruined me that I thought that the customer was alright right but clearly not. It’s not often I come to Southampton but when I do I always visit the chilworth arms. I will never be returning to this place which is such a shame. I did love it at one point.

Plenty of seating choices, inside/outside you name it. Our waitress was very accommodating and friendly. The menu is extensive with interesting little tweaks. The Beef & Malbec pie being a good example. One of our party has an allergy which our waitress went out of her way to deal with in a sympathetic and caring way. My only small gripe and it is small was the draft beer choice being Doombar. Two other pumps available so it might have been a timing issue, draft beer has a much smaller use by window than the cask beers on offer. All in all an excellent pub restaurant.

Lovely dinner. Went for the Wine and Dine experience. Food was delicious and Phoebe who served us was amazing and attentive the whole night.

Thought we'd try meeting here on a whim, and we were all pleasantly surprised with the quality of our food. Between us we had the sea bass, the pork belly and the lamb. All were excellent. The service was also great, many thanks Nicky!

Had the good fortune to visit here on the back of a customer recommendation. First impressions were another gastro pub. Reality is an excellent foodie palace. Nikki did us proud in terms of professionalism but also a cheeky sense of humour. A varied and thought through menu opens up the eating experience. And the food stands up as well worth every penny. Creative and very insightful with homage to the coastline in the fish and crab options. All in all we had a superb meal with exceptional service from Nikki which means that on every basis this is a place you have to visit and try for yourselves.

The food was ok, if overpriced, and the service in the restaurant was great. What a shame that there is such a mismatch between the bar and the restaurant. The bar completely let the pub down and was very unwelcoming, with cold, egotistical barmen strutting about, muttering to each other about customers. Got the feeling that they only liked locals, not out-of-towners. Wouldn't visit again.

Absolutely super meal here. We did the special deal for 2 people: 3 courses and nice bottle of wine for a great price. Food was delicious, particularly scallop starter and pork belly and scallop main. My dessert, chocolate bombe, was excellent and everything you need at the end of a meal - chocolate! We had cocktails in the pub to start and finished off meal with a great Old Fashioned cocktail. So all told excellent visit! Service was top notch and the ambience was bubbling. Great feeling throughout with happy clientele. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful food and excellent service from Lucy

Sat in the lovely garden to eat. Took over an hour to bring a chicken sandwich, with no prior warning about there being a wait. Service staff acted annoyed when we politely asked where the food was - asked once and had no update, asked again after another 20 minutes and got sighed at. When the chicken sandwich came it was overcooked and tough but also too soggy with sauce. Not acceptable for the price and wait. If you're going to charge bistro prices you need to give good food and service. Won't be back.

Excellent dinner last night - food was superb and the service from Nicky was some of the best we have experienced at The Chilworth Arms. We eat here a lot and would thoroughly recommend Christmas Day. Had two lovely pints for Beavertown Neckoil - sadly no Neckoil glass as they've all been stolen

This was our second visit to The Chilworth Arms and it was perfectly pleasant. Our server (Jordan) was very kind and efficient, joined in with our tables jokes and make created a relaxing atmosphere. Our meals arrived quickly and were well cooked, and to our personal specifications (eg. well done lamb rump was well done). The only let down was the desert…the ‘chocolate’ sauce would have been better served on 99 with a flake than a poached pear. The table was sufficiently large but the chairs a little too sharp on the backrest, clearly solid wood which felt premium but could have done with a cushion. Unfortunately the floor bounced as people passed too. Would definitely go back and enjoy another meal, but would perhaps ask to be seated elsewhere and for the sauces to be placed in a pot of the side.

Went for a meal last night, was seated promptly, drink order was relatively quick but waiting for them to about 15 minutes... We received our drinks then wait about another 15 to order, the starters came and the cheese doughnuts were just deep-fried batter with a bit of cheese sprinkled over, but you couldn't complain as you never saw the waitress.. our mains were then delivered and they shot of before we could ask for sauces and more drinks... I had lamb which was supposed to be medium it was well done and crunched when I bit into it, but it was still edible the rest of the dish was lovely, we never had a check back only after we had finished 20 minutes later, would of had pudding but honestly didn't want the disappointment and wait again... Overall wouldn't return I understand the restaurant was busy but I could still count 5 servers.. shame.

A very pleasant pub let down by sloppy administration and monitoring. Months (if not years) of dust in the wine cabinets, no soap or toilet paper in the toilets, fire door regularly left locked during opening hours, if the obvious stuff is missed, what else goes on behind the scenes.

We all ordered chicken liver pate it was served with dry toast, no butter, so butter came after requested, followed by three fish and chips, sent back as chips cold , returned with hotter chips and cold mushy peas,we didn't send back as the fish was going cold, nobody came back to the table after to enquire , we had to ask for coffee, no upselling of drinks or desserts so a shame as nice location ,ate here 1 month ago and much better food, so hit and miss really, won't rush back

Not the cheapest but good food and beer. Went there at about 6pm on a weekday - it was quiet.

Stopped here for dinner. Great service was evident from the start. Friendly greeting at the door and shown to table in restaurant. Nice atmosphere and smart casual feeling. Menu was varied between classic gastro pub and some more interesting choices. Live music was playing in the bar. Service was quick and friendly. Drinks arrived quickly and ordered the truffled cheese doughnuts. Really nice. Then prawn linguine with extra scallops to follow. Very nice, large and tasty portion. Finished the evening with a perfect Amaretto sour. Will hope to return next time in the area.

Waited 2 hours to get the main course, a steak I couldn't cut into. The manager did though apologise for the wait and the meal and reduced the bill substantially!

Chipotle chicken starter was over cooked and luke warm. Had the rotisserie chicken for main again slightly over cooked as it was quite dry. Not enough sauce on it and the gravy was oily and got cold very quick. We were not asked if we wanted any other condiments as more bbq sauce would have been appreciated. The service was very slow so bad that they never came to take our dessert order so we just asked for the bill and left. Was very disappointed as usually the food and service are excellent.

Took family to share in a birthday meal for my son. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was friendly.

Highly recommend this place for dinner. Large group of us who had the whole conservatory for ourselves. The wait staff are so very friendly and we cannot recommend them enough. Food was delicious - drinks are great especially their non alcoholic cocktails.

My partner and I decided to try out the Chilworth Arms for an evening meal. Unfortunately our experience was quite disappointing. Firstly, although the servers were friendly, we felt the service was really poor. During our entire meal we weren't checked on at all and it was almost impossible to get a servers attention. There also seemed to be a lot of confusion with what food was supposed to be going where. It was frustrating as I had wanted an additional drink during my meal, but flagging down a server was so difficult we ended up having to go to the bar. We felt the staff were completely overstretched. The second issue, and notably the most disappointing, was that one of our dishes was not as we had expected or hoped. We chose the seafood linguine. The main ingredients were listed under the menu title, however the taste ended up being unexpectedly sweet (which I think should have been included in the information). Almost likened to sweet chilli sauce being poured all over it. Neither of us liked it at all. Ironically, if the service had been better, we would have been able to let them know and perhaps change it. For the price, we would have expected so much better. Overall, we were quite disappointed by our experience and won't be visiting again.

More of a gastropub/restaurant than a pub. Quite expensive, but worth every penny. There is an extensive menu, and the quality is excellent, served by friendly efficient staff.

Ate here on sunday, the meal option that I had first chosen they had sold out of, so I opted for a roast dinner, after an 50 minutes of waiting for my food I asked the waitress if there was an issue with the meals, she said it wouldn't be much longer, about a minute after this a TOBY CARVEY delivery was made to the restaurant and walked through into the kitchen, a few minutes later our food was bought to the table, I am 100% convinced what I was presented was half Toby Carvey and half of what the pub supplied, I have had plenty of roast dinners at the Chilworth arms and this was AWFUL quality. we were also in the Restaurant for over 2 hours and was only once asked if we wanted a drink, we had to keep trying to get peoples attention to order more. When questioned whether we were served the Toby Carvery we saw delivered we were sheeplishy told, that wasnt for you....

I was on business in the area and popped in for an evening meal. I was greeted by a lively bar and restaurant with a real buzz and friendly vibe. The staff were great - very friendly and helpful. The menu was good with plenty of variety of options - food was well prepared and tasty. I’ll definitely be back :-)

I came here before had a bad experience, but I thought I will have it another go.. Sometimes when you arranged a party and suggested somewhere to go you feel responsible but last night was good my friends enjoy their meals. But it was a bit cold where we sat. I might suggest and come back for my Birthday again around 18 May The young lady who looked after us she is very very nice and very knowledgeable about the food when we asked her. Wrote this review whilst stood at the bar waiting to be served, having been spotted by 2 members of staff and ignored by both I'm just stood here waiting, if it wasn't for the fact I'm meeting someone I would have left.

Dinner with some really good friends. Very attentive Staff, thanks Joe and Nina. Lots of choice on the menu, and all our meals were well presented and very tasty. Although it was clearly a busy evening the service was spot on from beginning to end. We will definitely be coming back.

The restaurant area was fairly empty. We were sat down and waited 20 minutes or so before our drinks order was taken. We ordered food at the same time which arrived in a timely manner. My partner had the half rottiserie chicken which he said was tasty but very dry and his red wine tasted corked. I ordered the banana blossom and chips and I couldn’t eat more than ¼ because the batter was so greasy. At no point anyone asked us how the meal was until we mentioned it during our starters and then one of the servers came quickly to check as soon as the mains had been served, which didn’t really give enough time to eat a couple of mouthfuls to see if the food was truly any good. We were sat by the window near the car park and it was full of mould all over the edges of the glass panes. The gloss painted window sills and wooden trims was all tired looking and scuffed, the same thing with the skirting boards. The carpets in the restaurant are filthy (they’re overdue a replacement) and you can see the dust on the chairs. The tables are in need of sanding and varnishing. The dark carpets next to the kitchen and bathrooms are worn down, thick in dirt (most likely from spilled foodstuffs) and stink too. The bathrooms are filthy with the urinals smelling bad and the stone tiles in severe need of cleaning and descaling, in addition to that, the area around the sinks needs a deep clean and directly around the hand dryer is disgustingly filthy too. The whole area needs a good lick of paint. The only positive I can give is that your staff is polite and friendly but, unfortunately, that doesn’t get enough stars and a good review, specially when you charge top dollar for dining at what’s meant to be a top notch restaurant for a great experience.

Returned after a fantastic visit about 6 months ago really looking forward to repeating the experience. I was not disappointed!!! The service, food, drink was simply phenomenal - way, way above a 'gastropub' which if you look at the facts that is what it is.....I saved the lamb until the last evening and they say you should save the best till last.....and it was.....highly recommended - thank you.

The pork with scallops looked great. The salad with prawns and scallops was a genuine winner and tasted great, although £4 for two scallops! The first two old-fashioned cocktails were missing sugar. I didn't realise until i had a third. Really nice pub and food was very tasty, really pleased with my meal.

Sunday evening so they had obviously been busy as the waiting staff informed us a few items were not available. Large menu so no problem. We arrived early and were sat in the bar. Had drinks. Went to table and ordered, so far so good. Food was excellent, at least what arrived was. The greens were advertised as including brocoli, spinach, green beans, and samphire - no samphire was evident. The dish had obviously been on the hot plate a long time as some of the spinach was crusted to the edge. But, and I can't stress this enough - the food we had was excellent. However I was watching the other meals coming from the kitchen and the Yorkshire puddings that other had looked very over cooked ( I'm a Yorkshireman and they just looked wrong. Waiting staff cleared our plates away - but not the side dishes; which remained through the dessert until we left and pointed this out. Speaking of dessert, I ordered a "mini-dessert with a hot drink". The coffee arrived but the dessert didn't; until 10 minutes after. I'd expect simultaneous arrival or dessert first. Coffee is the last part of a meal. The dessert arrived without a spoon! They'd had exactly the same issue with the next table so should have anticipated it.

Table for three for Sunday lunch booked the day before. Ordered three roasts which came in around 15 mins. All were delicious, especially the Yorkshire puddings. We all had puddings which were also very good. Service was fine and no complaints from us at all. One to return to. Quite punchy in terms of price but you do know that when you book - meal for 3, including drinks was just over £100 which was fair enough.

This place needs to improve on its food quality and staff attitude We booked a table arrived before time to be informed table just needed to be cleaned. Modern contemporary decor, very busy even on a rainy Tuesday night. Lots of wealthy customers which is good as the food is on the slightly higher end of good. Good choice on the menu, starters, sides, mains, desserts and sharers. When busy service can be slow, 20 mins+. Dirty burger is good and comes with dipping sauce. Cut the burger in half and dip away! Washed down with Hells larger. Roasted pork belly with scallops a bit disappointing, as meat came with a large amount of uncooked fat. A pint of Neck Oil a good choice with the pork. Billionaires chips are tasty and worth a little treat with Asahi beer.

Great atmosphere, they had a live band on who were brilliant and the staff were fantastic.

The food was good but the place isn't particularly clean and the restaurant staff are not that friendly (a bit of an attitude). The window sills in the restaurant need a good clean - dead flies are not a pleasant sight. The toilets are very tired and the whole place needs a good refurb. Shame, as the bar staff are great but the waitresses and general condition of the place let it down.

We went for dinner on my wife's birthday. We went there because we had had a good meal there previously. Last night was a disappointment. Perhaps it was because it was Easter Monday and they were short of staff maybe. We were a party of five, me, my wife, our two children and a friend of my wife who was staying with us on holiday. My son had the fish and chips and complained that the chips weren't crisp and were dry, as were the minted peas. The fish was fine. My daughter complained that her Pizza was dry. My wife's friend said that the fries with her dirty burger were dry (dirty burger doesn't sound very appetising, does it?) My wife's seafood linguini and my salad with grilled chicken breast were fine, although it is difficult to ruin a salad. So three meals with complaints that they were dry? It points to them being kept under the lights for too long before serving. We told the waitress about these complaints and she knocked 10% off the bill. Naturally we would have preferred to pay the full amount and have an enjoyable meal on my wife's birthday. Normally we would have had at least a couple of desserts, but my children didn't want to give the restaurant the extra business.

Service is at best below average. We had to put our finished plates on the adjacent table where they remained until we left! Clearly staff training us not something that happens or if it does not achieveing anything. Mains were over priced for the quality served to us. Whwn servers were asked about the dishes they had no idea of what to say, quiet embarrassing really. Cheese board is a complete joke at half the price. Blue cheese was a 2mm thick slice but tasty, the brie must be asda value range like rubber, the cheddar said to be strong and tasty is anything but iceland mild Cheddar has more taste. The biscuits are those carboard chewy things that are trendy but tasteless, where are the water buiscuts as an option az this is not cheap. Worse still it is all served straight out of the fridge very cold adding to a very dire experince. I do not know who selects the wines, but the shiraz that haz a wonderful description is anything but, and just a fruity wine lacking body & spice of even a mediocore shiraz and at almost £12 a glass. I do not leave many reviews but this deserves one as its way below standard.

An utterly dreadful experience for a birthday evening and cannot recommend this establishment. Service was glacially slow, a table booked for 7.30 and we didn’t leave until almost 10.00 pm. Constantly referred to as “ you guys” by the male servers showed no respect for more mature customers. Food was very underwhelming and lukewarm at best. Chips being sent back to kitchen as they were almost cold and unpleasant. For pudding we chose apple tarts, but sadly these too were a letdown, the puff pastry was more akin to chewy rubber - not at all crisp. The final insult of course was an incorrect bill just to round things off. Sorry “guys” you have lost us as customers, we will not be back after such an awful evening meal.

Turned up having not booked a table but Tahla was so accommodating and sorted us out a table immediately and made us feel very welcome. Tahla was a lovely natured person and very professional

It's a comfortable place to while away a few hours, the bar area especially but it can get very busy during lunchtimes and sometimes finding a seat is hard. The dining options, in either the restaurant (usually requiring booking) or bar area are very good, with an excellent, uncluttered menu. The food is delicious and prepared to a very high standard and the service is friendly. During the summer, the garden area (including dining) is a welcoming option, in a pretty setting (Chilworth). I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

We quite often go to Chilworth Arms for a nice supper. The food is generally good and the service is friendly. Tonight we were happy with our experience and thought there was a younger vibe. The music was more upbeat and there was a good crowd in the bar. Not crowded in the restaurant though. The fillet steak was excellent and I enjoyed the steak pie, though there was a bit more pie than steak. A nice wine list and friendly service from Carrie. A nice way to end the week.

We visited the chilworth arms after meeting some friends. Very good menu, and we all had roast dinners. Incredible quality and very good portion size (I'm a big eater) . Highly recommend and we will be back when in the area again.

Very pleasant surroundings and the tables are crammed together like a lot of places. Service was disappointing. We had to ask twice for a jug of water, and even when it came the second time it took a while. Similarly in asking for condiments, the first person we asked we never saw again and had to ask someone else. The trio roast tasted good, but it wasn’t very warm, the beef was quite gristly and the pork was about 40%fat. My wife said her sea bass was quite bland but very nicely presented. Overall a bit of a let down.
