We had a small group of friends enjoying a Christmas menu. We pre-ordered the main course from across the menu and ordered starters and puddings during the meal. Wide selection of wines beers and soft drinks. Excellent food Terrific service Very enjoyable pub restaurant. And the cost for 8 was very reasonable worked out at £50 per person incoming all drinks and three courses. Thanks for making our meal just right.

This review is for the pub and not the hotel. I went for Sunday lunch on 15 September with 20 others and I I can honestly say I had one of the best pub lunches ever. I had sea bass with Elton Mess to follow. Both absolutely delicious and lots of lovely vegetables too. The young ladies who looked after us (mainly elderly ……US - NOT the young ladies!!!!) were so kind, pleasant and helpful. The food and wine were a bit on the expensive side but well worth it. I mean to take my family for a pub lunch soon and The Duke will be top of the list! One small query is the vegan option but we’ll check the menu before we book. Many thanks

Visited on 11/08/24. We’ve eaten in the evening here a few times and the food was very nice. So thought we’d breakfast a go. However the quality of the evening food does emulate that of the breakfast. We waited 30 mins to start with and when it arrived well, it was awful. We did try and eat it but the standard was terrible. At £15 for a breakfast, not happy. How the chef could put that on a plate and b happy with it is beyond belief. It was a basic breakfast you get at a very low end cafe. The quality was appalling, I won’t go into detail, but the only edible thing was the toast, even the butter was frozen. The manager offered to replace it but we were so annoyed with the wait we just said no and left. I think I was more annoyed that they tried to palm this off on us. We went into Romsey to the Cork and Bean and had a fabulous meal. I won’t be eating here again.

It's the Duke on the Road not Duke on the Test. You cant see or even hear the river and there's awful smell in the "garden" which is essentially a patio in the carpark. Expensive. But pretty interior.

Lovely location and friendly staff but overpriced and disappointing food. I ordered the trout which I was assured was locally caught but when it came out they had just served me salmon (so not local at all). The olive oil had been watered down with something (I would presume vegetable oil) and half of what we ordered never arrived or was incorrect. Pub looks nice but wouldn’t order food ever again.

We met out Son, Daughter in law, Grandson and Granddaughter here for breakfast Saturday morning. We arrived early having traveled a long way. Thought we got inside... The Waitress couldn't find the booking..but found it later (Son had booked earlier Sat am.... on internet I think). We were offered coffee but decided to wait. We went here in March and sure the menu was bigger with more on tge menu. The rest if our party arrived...it was long time before getting a highchair for our 15month Granddaughter. Service wasn't good...very slow. Waitress didn't seem interested in her job. There were also a number if flies flying about.. I had scrambled egg on Toast ( which was very tasty)and had a sausage extra...it was a very expensive sausage. Husband had Poached eggs on toast which were very vingergy. Food was nicely presented. Things we asked for weren't remembered. If being REALLY PICKY....Coffee pots were different sizes but same price and were for 2 people. No extra coffee offered. Not asked if everything was ok with the meal. Was an expensive disappointment. Shame really... good place to meet up and lovely setting...

A warm welcome and excellent service. The Thai red curry however was awful and would be best taken off the menu. Laid in top of a bowl full of watery sauce was some sort of flat looking fatty char grilled chicken strips (which resembled birds eye chargrills), not sure if they'd run out of rice but not enough rice for the ratio of the dish, and this was poorly presented disappearing into the sauce! The only nice but about the dish was the mange tout floating around in the sauce. It really was a shocking dish and not worthy of restaurant standard. I couldn't complain at the time as the meal was bought for me. Sorry guys but I know you can do much better. 🙏

The staff were a bit off that there was no reservation made, despite many tables being available. Was not made to feel welcome initially, was made to feel that I do not belong in this establishment. Although after the staff warmed up. Food was good but not spectacular and a bit over priced. But certainly not bad. A long black hair was found in my dish. I do not have black hair. Staff did check on me during my meal and asked if I needed another drink, but after no further visits, table not cleared and bill was not offered. The building, grounds and location on the river is stunning. Overall definitely a slightly pretentious place and stiff staff 👎

The food was very good and great value, However, the same cannot be said about the service. There were 3 of us and 2 meals arrived and we had to wait some time for the third. We than had to wait some time for our vegetables to arrive, by this time our meals were only warm. A waitress did ask how our meals were and when told they were only warm clearly did not expect the comment and walked away without even so much as an apology. The waiting staff clearly preferred to spend their time as a group chatting at the bar than providing a service. Reviews a very useful for future customers but don't expect the pub to respond or apologise. They haven't replied to any of the reviews, good or bad. Will be voting with our feet and going up the road to The Goat. 1st class food, great value and brilliant staff.

Second visit, Saturday. Very busy good atmosphere, decent food, good service. A note of caution :- Make sure ✔️ you don’t end up on one of the tables near the door… this time of the year it’s freezing 🥶🥶🥶. We asked to move. Not possible as FULLY BOOKED. It spoilt our evening. Christmas lunch. Food was good service was good BUT ( I’m a youthful 70 year old) the waitress was condescending… as if my friend and I were senile and in a Nursing Home 🏠 environment. When it came to paying the bill they charged us for 2 x 3 courses as opposed to 2 x 2 courses. When pointed out it was accepted but with a smile 😊😳😳😳😳. It was a £10 difference. I remain unconvinced. The overall bill with 2 x glass of wine circa £90 so TOP END pub prices

On arrival we were seemingly dismissed the staff were too busy on their mobile phones or chatting amongst themselves to bother with customers. We were eventually and grudgingly shown to a table. In ordering drinks of the five we selected including alternatives only two were available and no apology or explanation was given. The food was however of very good quality and fairly if not cheaply priced. Such a shame this was let down by terrible customer service, fortunately Romsey is blessed with far more welcoming pubs although the food does not match

Went to Dukes Head to celebrate a friend's birthday. Lovely location and good ambience. However the service turned out to be terrible. First - staff forgot the dinner for the birthday girl. Her food arrived once others have already finished their main course. Then they brought plates for the birthday cake but we had to ask for cutlery. All main courses were either cold or lukewarm. Pub was not busy and it felt more like they did not care about the customers. Also very badly managed. Gents had to go outside to a portaloo as the internal toilets were out of action. We do not mind paying the price for good food and service but this was really really pathetic. Appalling experience. Stay well away. Romsey has better dinning facilities.

We ordered our food and drinks, which were brought to the table, in new wine glasses, but the upside down ones were left on the table. We moved them to one side which was a bit strange. Other diners had glasses left on their tables as well. The main course was acceptable, but the pudding was heavy. We then had coffee which was luke warm and not very nice.

My husband and I have been looking for a "gastropub" near Romsey and a search brought up a recommendation of this pub and it did not disappoint! We went on a quiet Wednesday and there were only one other group of diners, but some others enjoying dinks in the pub area. For fish fanciers like my husband, there are many fish dishes offered on the menu, but surprisingly he chose the chicken in mushroom sauce and I, still on the search for a worthy pub-burger chose it with a smoked black bun, which sounded interesting. They were also very accommodating in my request to exchange the chips for the seasonal vegetables.Well, all I can say is "Wow! Our search is over!" Everything about this meal was simple supurb! My husbands starter of bread and marinated olives ( did I really steal half of them...not me! ) was delicious and the bread tasted homemade. My burger was amazing and the black bun was so tasty; the seasonal veg of kale, carrots and beets was outstanding...I just wish I could cook my kale so perfect! My husband raved about his chicken dish as well.It is a tad on the pricey side, but we are so willing to pay it for this caliber of food.Service is great and the staff helpful and friendly. We will be back soon!

The last few visits under several previous management regime have not been good so it was with some trepidation that my wife and I visited for a meal on a Saturday in mid September 2017. Beer on offer was a local ale from the Flack Manor brewery, "Doom bar" and Adnams "Ghost Ship". My choice was "Ghost Ship" which proved to be a poor start to the evening as it was off. However, this was exchanged for "Doom Bar" with no issues and this was OK. The menu was very varied and appealing. My wife went for the wild mushroom risotto which she said was excellent and I went for the boring choice of Rib-eye steak. Boring that is except for it came with the intriguing "Black and White" chips. I was told that these were chips part cooked and then soaked in Balsamic vinegar and then finished off. These were absolutely outstanding. The taste was exceptional and the texture I can only compare with chips I remember from my childhood 50 years ago when it was proper fat the chips were cooked in (I did not ask what these chips were actually cooked in). Anyway, it was a very enjoyable meal and although quite expensive I'm sure my wife and I will revisit soon.

Went here today as we heard some good reviews about the new takeover. We got a nice warm welcome,we looked at the menu it's a tad pricey but thought we would see what the food was like first ,to see if the food reflected the price .We both chose the black king prawns in garlic. When it arrived our eyes nearly popped out of our heads the food looked amazing, beautiful fresh mixed leaf salad with cherry tomatoes & a light tasty dressing, created in a dome shape. Fantastic soda bread, like it had just come out of the oven & a delicate slice of butter on the side , the hot prawns were fanned & large as you like with sliced garlic & a drizzle of butter. This all came plated on wooden boards with two ceramic bowls one for empty shells & one with Rosemary Spriggs to wash your hands. Super new cotton ( not paper as standard) napkins with our highly polished cutlery tucked inside (splendid) we absolutely loved this amazing tasting food & worth every penny £8:50 . The newly decorated pub with its white tablecloth decorated tables full of sparkling glasses and cutlery was a rare sight to see in puds these days . Thank you to executive chef Aaron we will most definitely return to try this exciting menu. If I could change one thing it would be the out dated tables in the bar area & replace them with soft furnishings ( just a personal thought) hopefully the weather will be nicer next time to sit out front in the beautiful Patio area. Once again thank you to all who looked after us so brilliantly.

The new decor has really lifted the place. We had really good food, couldn't fault it, very friendly staff, the food is definitely a cut above 'pub grub' with lots of imaginative fish dishes. The homemade hot chocolate souffle was superb!! Just one thing as a local person if we just wanted to stop for a drink, there is limited comfortable seating because most tables are laid up for eating.

Really good meal this week. Finally found good food pub around Romsey. Great menu- fish, meat and veggie. Combination of pub classics and great interesting things- pigeon pie starter and fisherman's platter main with trout, prawns etc. Will definitely go again. My favourite food pub in or near Romsey.

Food was well presented and service was fine however I do feel overall it was overpriced especially the wine.

I booked this meal as a company treat so 9 of us in total. We sat outside in the back garden area and were able to sit at the large table which accommodated all of us without having to move any tables around! We ordered olives, bread and dipping basalmic vinegar to share for a starter which was more than adequate for the 9 of us and beautifully presented. Our main courses consisted of a variety of dishes all of which were again presented excellently and tasted superb. The side of vegtables were gorgous, cooked to perfection and the men agreed that their chips were equally as good. I would certainly recommend this pub and long may it continue to be as good as this. We will be back!

Been for a summer evening drink this evening in this newly refurbished pub, really excited its the closest to home and was so disappointed. The bar wasunmanned when we arrived and then the barmaid arrived and did not say a word, took our order and said how much. Did not feel valued, she did not ask if we wanted to eat, in fact she said nothing other than £8.20. Sullen and frankly quite rude.Would I recommend a visit to this pub NO.

What a fabulous job the new owner has done. I had a fish platter and my partner opted for the venison, both were very good. I'm sure we will be back very soon.

Myself and my partner and teenager popped in after a long walk. We only ordered a few sides and some drinks but really enjoyed it. The service was friendly and the food we ordered was delicious. A read of the menu and specials board means I will definitely be back!

A group of 4 of us turned up today after visiting simply Ford at beaulieu. We were all cold after walking around beaulieu for a few hours. We were greeted by two lovely young ladies who found us a nice warm table. We all ordered roast dinners and all thought they were fantastic. We have never had 7 different vegetables served to us before with a roast dinner. The swede was amazing along with the red cabbage. Two of our party had desserts and they were served promptly and tasted lovely. All in all a lovely dining experience and I would highly recommend this eatery to all. Well done !!

Six of us, from Kent, arranged lunch here on Easter Sunday. We each opted for the various roasts on offer. The food was excellent, with a wide range of fresh vegetables and succulent meat - clean plates all round. The girls waiting at table were pleasant and efficient. Sure, the outside of the pub has seen better days but the food and drink could not be faulted. Well done!

Great Spoons. Excellent beer, food and service. The roof terrace is a good beer drinking location when not raining. The hotel is highly recommended if staying in Andover.
