Went in for food today as we sat down and started to look at menus we overheard one of the kitchen staff complain and moan about the fact that we was wanting to order food. So got up and left don’t offer food if there’s going to be an issue when wanting to order food. Get better staff

When I first saw photos of the Phoenix I thought it was a typical “street corner” pub, so expected it to a cosy little local bar. In reality it is certainly a local bar and is clearly a very popular one, particularly with the younger folk in town. The surprising thing for me however was its size, as it is much larger than I expected. Having said that, it still had everything that I hoped for, ie traditional style and decor, good service and a friendly atmosphere.

Booked a table for 4, for football playoffs on tv, to include a roast Sunday lunch. So 4 hours in total. The “girls” were under huge pressure and you can only admire the efforts they made to keep everyone “fed and watered.” Real ale took an age to pour!? The roast was small, the “choice” reduced by half as no beef or lamb by 1pm; no Yorkshire puddings and only two very small portions of veg. One mini stuffing ball with the pork and chicken. It all looked a bit lost on a big plate! Generally disappointing but at least it was hot! Sad that the whole bar area was polluted for the whole four hours by an e-cigarette owner? He just sat at the bar and it reached every one? Children included! It stank! I think a policy change there would be welcomed by most. “Real” smokers go outside? Why not him? So, a bit hard to recommend but 10/10 for your efforts and hope it all works out for you. Unlikely to go back though.

Went for a midday lunch with my Mum. After waiting 1 hr for the food to be delivered to our table, only to see a long black hair entangled with my Mum's food. The lovely girl serving was very apologetic, for the waiting time & the hair found, but unfortunately, it hasn't encouraged us to return.

Stayed in Romsey for a few days and visited twice. First was early in the evening for food which was okay. Young staff, friendly but kind of loud between each other, eating at the counter and vaping. Came back few nights later for beers but was even worse with the local youth ànd the music (not live music) very very loud. We are a little older and therefore left after one drink. So.. okay for young people but not a cosy pub for the more elderly.

Decent boozer and decent booze on tap. Not much more to say.

Didn't eat but the beer was good. Dog friendly.

I went here with my dad tow watch Liverpool ve arsenal 1-1 (great game btw.) The food was really good too, we both had the buttermilk chicken burger. That was well nice. Service was great and the atmosphere was great too. One thing I can complain about is it was a bit rowdy.

My wife and I came to this pub for some light lunch and a drink. The food is lovely but we overheard some staff members talking about how the landlord of the pub sells cocaine. I understand if you enjoy that but it’s not something we want to be hearing whilst having lunch!

Stopped for a quick drink in the rain! Staff were friendly, polite and fun. Other customers were nice. Drinks as you would expect. Glad we decided to pop in and will definitely be back.

Went to watch the women's football and enjoyed

Great location the staff are very nice and they open up the sash windows when it’s sunny. But it is populated with very unfriendly locals so never again.

Nice bar, staff very pleasant and very good service. Had a meal with our family, food was tasty and at a good price. Would definitely go back if in the area

This is a pub we enjoy more and more they make the best omelette in town excellent service nice friendly bar staff. Today we tried something different The all day breakfast and sausage and mash excellent keep up the good work guys. Simon & Ron

Hot day but poor service and limited food

If you enjoy a great omelette try this they are superb four eggs and a variety of fillings. Also very good wine selection.

Went here for Sunday Lunch as was in Romsey but we couldn’t find anywhere open for Sunday lunch and we asked someone in the street and they recommended here. Greeted with a cheery hello how can we help. We were given a choice of tables . The menu was quite good besides the Sunday roast. Hubby had the chicken and had 2 large pieces of chicken breast. I had the nut roast. We had about 5 lovely crispy roast potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire’s, green beans, carrots, cauliflower cheese and gravy which was all delicious and piping hot, couldn’t eat a pud. Great value. Lovely pub nice and bright inside. They had a garden but didn’t go out there. It’s on the high street and we’ll worth a visit. We will go again if in that area

Went in for a coffee as it claims to have a batarista mkaing good coffee. Coffee was badly made, not a well trained Barista. We shared a slice of Victoria sponge. It's not worth the calories, I'm afraid. Maybe good for beer, but not a coffee stop.

We arrived at 7:30pm with our small, very well behaved Cavapoochon dog to watch our friend perform in a band that evening. There was a doorman on the door who welcomed us in at that time. At 9:15pm we took our dog outside to find some grass so she could go to the toilet. Whilst one of the doorman stroked and commented how adorable our dog was, we were most surprised when the other doorman said dogs are not allowed in after 9pm, you can’t come back in and must leave (he was even reluctant to let us back in to retrieve our coats). The doorman even went to check with the manager who confirmed she could not come back in. I had previously checked their website which says that the pub is dog friendly and there is no mention of the 9pm rule. I’m not sure what the management thinks happens to dogs at 9pm, our Cavapoochon is not a werewolf.

Large pub with garden space, staff were friendly and food was nice and reasonably priced. It was noisy as a football match was on, bad timing on our behalf.

Band were great. Staff friendly. Fab atmosphere.

We didn't go for an event , we just popped in for a coffee after a wander around the town. Nice enough although a little pricey I thought.

Lovely atmosphere would 100% recommend. Went here today for brunch, food came out perfect and all of us were very happy with it. The chef had lots of people to cook for and the timing was excellent all came out at a similar time. Brilliant place to go for a couple of drinks at the weekend too. Staff are amazing and really friendly.

Had an amazing meal here today with my family. There was 11 of us and the food was tasty, got and all came out together so compliments to the chef! Awesome group of people working here. Thankyou for a great experience

Well priced food nice range of beer need to go back for the live music

My friend and I visit this eatery at least once a month for the excellent omelettes made fresh by the chef (4 eggs multiple fillings) The staff and service are excellent keep up the good work.

Had great night out amazing entertainment

We went as a fairly large group for leaving drinks. The service was a bit slow, but everything else was as you'd expect in a pub. 👍🏼

Food average but took over 1 hour to come to table. Which at that point has Teeth marks.

Nice guy serving, yummy cake and latte, enjoyed sitting on the high stools watching the world go by. My friend enjoyed their beer and cake too!

Ordered 2 fish and chips and a curry took over an hour to come with no previous warning of a time delay and saw multiple other tables with the same issue once meals arrive still was missing some elements from the description. Overall bad experience with no real apology

Good old fashioned pub with good selection of beers and meals. Friendly staff, popular with the locals and brightly decorated, this pub should not be missed.

A went here. They eventually served me, then turned the lịghts on. Southampton wịll probably stịll be relegated.

Four of us went in for lunch on Tuesday this week.Three meals were warm but definitely not as hot as they should have been. I sent my meal back. We waited for a response from the manager but gave up in the end and left. Real shame as we've enjoyed it in there previously.

I had dinner here with friend one Saturday. We had booked online, but for some reason they did not have this registered. However, we were able to get a table. The food is fine, but nothing special. It's good that there are small portions which are available to adults. The staff were friendly enough, & the service adequate. I won't be rushing back though.

No heating so was very cold. They could have plugged in some electric heaters. Jacket potatoes had run out. Not our best visit at all

Awful people. Refused to serve us as Indians. The locals were absurd and abusive and the employees heard and didn’t care.

Friendly pub with a live band playing gentle Abba etc covers.

Great staff, great entertainment and even better now it has sky sports.

I have been going in this pub for donkeys years, even back when it was the Tavern. Never had an issue before. While in there on my last visit, a few of our group were asked to leave. When we asked the bouncers why, they were completely arrogant & just said "we don't have to give you a reason". While technically that's true, there are ways to talk to people & these jobs worths just don't get it. I genuinely believe they will cause more issues than they solve. Refused to give company name & ID numbers. Having read one or two reviews here & elsewhere, I am not sure why they don't just change the door company. They're going to / have lost a lot of custom. A good number of people have also said to me directly they avoid the place now due to similar issues. Such a shame as it used to be a good night.

Just popped into the pub for one drink after broadlands concert to wait for our lift, ask by door staff to leave, not allowed to finish our drink, not allowed to go back in to get my bag or coat, my niece had to bring it out to me. We did not do anything wrong, we were sat at a table with the one drink we brought.

The pub is really good it's got good staff and the food is amazing we'll worth it the girl on the bar was really kind and friendly and amazing customer service skills

Very rude staff, that don't serve you in a friendly manor at all. Place feels very uninviting. Staff drinking on the job behind the bar, one of the staff swearing at customers in front of other customers. Bouncers are very blunt and rude, drinks are okay but nothing special at all except the price, which is ridiculous. Very disappointed to visit after all this time to see just how much this place has fallen apart. Would not reccomend for any occasion. Definitely not family friendly anymore, I wouldn't dream of bringing my daughter here, ever. Neither would I want to be anywhere near that place on a night out with mates either. Atmosphere is genuinely horrible.

Unfortunately this Pub is going down hill Rapidly . The food was cold and tasteless , rats in the garden and cigarette ends all over the floor and benches .

Very very rude bouncers Rude very rude to me as a non drinker going to the toilet, if worried about abnormal behaviour that’s fine but could be a lot more considerate. Also when we entered the girls of the group walked straight in whilst men got IDed and when asked why the bouncers said ‘ because they are girls’. Great music but sexist and inconsiderate bouncers.

Not good. Visited once for a friend's 60th birthday party. I was one of the youngest at 57y.o. We were just a few ol' bikers, grateful to be able to meet up after such a long time (covid). When we left at the end of the evening, upon returning to the hotel, we were surrounded by police, who had been informed that driver was drinking and driving! WRONG!! Designated drivers tend not to!! No arrests profuse apologies from the police, who said they would be having words with over zealous door staff. Totally ruined the evening. Thanks phoenix. Won't be going there again!!

Good music tonight the strand were playing

Such a good night until my disabled friend was accused of taking drugs and drink driving..none where found to be true and more so the police did the appropriate test and after the negative result they understood why we were frustrated

Standard pub. Nothing wrong with it, nothing great about it. Got the food order wrong a couple of times and the macaroni cheese is awful, but it is what it is and that is not a restaurant.

Update December 21 I really enjoy going into this pub, the bar staff are really friendly and give the sort of welcome only given to regulars. My one and only thing is that the games area is really noisy and loads of shouting as the evening goes on, add that to the music and it really isn't a pub for a chat. Great fun if you are with a bunch of friends but if you want a quiet drink and a private chat then this may not be the best place. The one area of the pub that is a bit more peaceful is right by the, very, smelly toilets and no way I could sit there! 2018 This used to be the sort of pub I wouldn't go into but they have really turned it around. Now it is a lively, friendly place that attracts a much different clientele. Great gin selection, good wines and beers. I have not eaten here but people, whose opinion I trust, i know have and they say it is great. I will try the good very soon I hope.

Visited Romsey looked for a good place for lunch, this is it friendly staff, good food, sensible prices, good atmosphere.

Not very good when you have booked a table and they then tell you that the kitchen is closed. Won't be going again. More interested in the baby shower the the people who booked a table!

Good food, excellent service, friendly staff.

I heard a few bad things about the place before visiting. I'm not sure if this is based on a reputation the pub used to have .. Went to watch an England game. The bar staff were very efficient and the atmosphere was great... Everybody was talkative and I didn't get a bad vibe of the place at all.

I'm still blown away with how friendly the staff were, one staff member locked eyes with me less than 2 minutes and immediately came over to serve me I loved it here, definitely recommend!
