The Chequers at Brize Norton in West Oxfordshire

A nice pub with lots of options for families. Staff were really friendly and helpful for was good but not of the greatest quality. My burger was tasty but dry and nothing on side with burger and chips e.g salad or slaw

We had a great meal here today. The carvery was fantastic. I’m a vegetarian and I wasn’t disappointed either. They have a couple of options and they brought it over separately. They also allowed my dog to come as well which was appreciated. Would definitely visit again- highly recommended.

Arrived for birthday meal on a Saturday night, arrived, pub was quite empty. Nothing written in the book to say I had booked couple days before via telephone. Told to pick a table. Cutlery was just put in a pile in middle of table for us to sort out. Freezing cold, so everyone kept their jackets on. No tartare sauce with scampi which was on the specials board. Empty salt pot on table. When dish of onions rings had been eaten, there was a dead fly in the bottom. Children running around between tables. Went to pay for food and they didnt even know which drinks went with our table. Tried to put someone else’s on at first. Not a pleasant experience and birthday meal ruined. Will not be returning. Emailed them and explained the above and not even a reply. Definitely gone down hill.

Food was lovely, faultless even. The whole running of the place was disorganised though. It is hard to distinguish staff from customers, when we eventually located a staff member we managed to find our table. There were a whole load of people waiting around like us unsure if we seat ourselves/ wait to be assigned a table , this meant the doorway was incredibly crowded. Despite booking for the carvery they failed to give us our tokens so we had to wait for the person giving out meat to check our booking. The toilets weren’t very clean and we went for first sitting on Sunday so they had only just opened so no reason for them not to have been clean.

Would not return food was great but unfortunately sat evening and children running around not my idea of a lovely sat evening. Trying to exit pub dogs outside by door. First glass of red wine was returned as tasted awful second glass abit better putting it down to a cheap bottle the chefs talent is wasted in this establishment

Great impromptu evening meal at the chequers. We enjoyed meals off the menu served piping hot. Great to have the chef back! Fantastic food at good prices.

Stopped in whilst in the area and was perfectly happy with the food we had. Nothing fancy, but good proper food at a sensible price - can’t really argue with that. We were the only ones in the building (mid week) which was a bit strange but the staff were all really lovely. Would happily return.

Food was tasty and service was goid and friendly.

This place caters more for children than it does adults. It’s just swarming with them. On social media they consistently advertise face painting, Easter egg hunts, massive inflatables in the garden - all for kids. Incredibly, in the bar they actually have a ‘kids corner’ brimming with toys and books. It’s literally like a nursery there. One of our friends had to navigate a ride on toy and 3 kids on the floor on the way to the toilets. Not a parent in sight. We went with a group of friends and were astonished at the amount of children. I would absolutely NOT recommend this adult establishment to anyone, unless you have kids of course. You’ll be in heaven supping your beer with your children left to their own devices. If you’re looking for a quiet pint and good food then this isn’t the place to visit.

Putting aside the long time it took to order, having ordered 8 meals, only four arrived…the other four were not cooked at the same time OMG; as they were on a different piece of paper 🤷‍♂️ To add insult the waitress service was subpar, as though she wasn’t interested. All in all after going there for over 20 years, we shall be taking our trade elsewhere from now on.

Mother’s Day lunch. Arrived 10 mins early, sat down and ate. Whilst I was eating, a server came up asked if she could take the other empty plates, as I was still eating. No very good manners. The person justified this by saying that they had 3 sittings today and wanted to clear tables. That’s dreadful practise. After we’d finished the mains, another server came along and asked what we wanted for pudding and struggled to recite the menu board. When we’ve been previously, the server has brought the menu board over. Comments: 1) I work in Hospitality and know how tough present times are, however don’t sacrifice your reputation for short term profit. 2) Train your staff. I would have come and spoken to a manager, however it was clear that the restaurant was organised chaos today, as opposed to a well oiled machine. Thank you.

My wife regularly raves about the cajun chicken wraps in this pub so I finally gave in. Wow. Really very nice. Packed full to bursting with chicken, peppers, mushrooms, cheese and very tasty. The pub also does my favourite cider (Aspall) so it was a great lunch.

Called in on Sunday lunchtime in the hope of a roast. We were made to feel very welcome and accommodated. There was a great atmosphere and the roast was incredible. Great portions and a fabulous selection of vegetables. All of the staff that we spoke to were so friendly. Thank you 😊.

Third year for Christmas Lunch. 6 of us had a great meal. The Turkey and ham were excellent,, and and plenty of it. All in all an excellent meal. We'll done everyone concerned.

Food was cold and very little of it

Visited with friends and we all brought children! Pub could not have been more accommodating considering we all had children ‘on mass’. Lots of kids toys and food was great! Thanks for a lovely afternoon

Went here with a works Christmas party, all I can say is it was awful, the size was so small, not a lot of anything, what was worse it was served with one, yes one Brussel sprout cut in half, four slices of carrot, three roast potatoes, no green veg at all, staff were not very happy either, the dessert was just as bad, and they expect customers to pay 35 pounds for 2 course meal, I would have been embarrassed sending this out, my friend gave me her potatoes as she does not like roast, no other choice

Had a lovely meal: I had the beef cheeks and cheese board and would have both again! It was nice and cosy in there and had friendly staff. Only small things were carrots were a bit al-dente for me and not the best grapes, otherwise faultless.

Went to the Halloween party with my family, the children loved apple bobbing, cake decorating, all the arts and crafts for free! My little boy played for ages in the toy area and my daughter got a snake painted on her arm! Busy but fun atmosphere, quick service and the friendly staff worked very hard to make sure everyone had an enjoyable night.

Really disappointed. Menu changed . Prices gone up - a lot. Quality gone down - a lot. Had 3 meals. Chips overcooked on all of them as was chicken fillet. The gammon steak was as thin as a slice of ham . None of us finished or enjoyed our meals . We wont b returning which is a shame as wed always enjoyed our meals there b4.

Lovely family lunch here the other day. Fish and chips better than by the sea! Perfectly crispy non greasy batter lovely fish and the chips just how I like them all served with peas and tartar sauce. Lovely atmosphere and deco we will be visiting again soon.

In case you were thinking of taking the pooch, this pub is not dog friendly. Only allowed in the garden.🙄

Having visited here previously on numerous occasions for Business lunches we were shocked to see a change in menu especially when the food arrived which at best was poor. Overcooked chicken that had been deep fried, normally chicken fillet, skinny fries rather than gastro chips and an extremely thick sauce which wasn't pourable. Of the 4 meals that we had only 2 of them were anything similar to previous quality and meals coming out at different times was extremely poor and mean that dishes were going cold. Sadly our business is going to be moving elsewhere as we cant afford to be spending good money on poor quality food. This dishes are far from the normal and do not reflect the price pain.

We visited today, we have been before and it was wonderful, the food and the toys for the kids in the garden used to be brilliant, but today the beef was chewy, we had to get another plate to put it on as we couldn’t swallow it. They did bring us over some more beef that was a much better cut. The rest of the food was really tasty and the staff are lovey. After we’d eaten we went out to the garden so the kids could play. It is all run down and end everything needs a referb. All the the kids ride on toys were broken/ damaged, no maintenance had been done. The benches at the table had slats of wood missing so couldn’t sit down. The parasols were broken so we couldn’t use them. The football table was coned off so they couldn’t play there either. The place is run down and needs freshening up in my opinion. It used to be wonderful. It’s a shame as it used to be amazing there.

Four adults & two children came to your pub today It was a treat from our daughter for our fortieth Anniversary We were all looking forward to a roast lunch My daughter & hubby had beef Very stringy I had turkey Quite grey meat Son in law had gammon & pork He liked the gammon The children had pork Roast potatoes we think were frozen Carrots raw Yorkies frozen Gravy weak All in all not the best roast Lacking in flavour We were all still hungry so decided to have a dessert My daughter asked the waitress if the sticky toffee pudding had nuts in The waitress went to check Came back & said it doesn't say on the box Box ?? Not freshly made ? The sticky toffee pudding & chocolate brownie again were bland Also the waitress wasn't dressed appropriately Off white vest top showing too much & ripped jeans Yet others were dressed mostly in black When my daughter went to pay she said about the food but as the pub was busy the waitress wasn't really listening We are all disappointed Oh & hungry

Visited this week (Tuesday) for a friend's meet up and picked it purely on location. Was worried given the recent poor feedback from people but decided to give it a go. The reception from the manager was warm and he actually let us in a...

Avoid this place at all costs. Awful food and awful staff. The place is a health hazard. Half cooked food coming out of the kitchen, Broken toys and unfriendly staff.

It was a great atmosphere lots of kind people and I feel it was a very good service

Having eaten here 4 years ago I expected much better, but this place has really gone downhill. All the soft dinks on draught were flat, and none of the staff were able to resolve the issue. Only alternatives were cans of diet coke or rio for £2 each. Food took 45 minutes to come out and we were the only people in there, and was served to adults before children! None of the burgers looked very appetising, but they were big portions. The slow cooked beef cheeks however were a tiny portion for £20, and the meat was overcooked, served with a spoonful of mash and some undercooked veg. When given the final bill we thought it was too much, but the lady insisted it was correct (the receipt was not itemised, but she wrote down the prices of items for me). Once home I looked in more detail and found they had charged us for an extra meal! I did get an apology on the phone, and told to come back to get the money back, which I did. The lady who gave the refund, however, gave no apology at all for us having been overcharged. I would not go back there again.

Carvery lunch. We have been a few times over the past few years, unfortunately this time would probably be our last. Veg nice but could have been a bit warmer, meat portion very small. Roast potatoes soggy and not crispy. Slow to bring out replacement veg when empty.

Went here for carvery with family and the beef still had a heart beat .gravy an peas was stone cold food was terrible won't be visiting here again .

This is our local pub and we’d really like to support it, but on 4 out of 6 visits recently we have been served undercooked food. Yet to have a properly cooked burger. Not worth the prices I’m afraid. You’re better off taking a trip...

A great pub for the family, as a family we often call in on a Sunday for the Calvary, can’t fault the food but you do feel a little bit intimate whilst eating, it’s like having Christmas dinner in a old people’s home.

It's a great local pub, for simple food, drinks and to relax with family & friends. Very friendly staff. Garden is nice and big with lots of toy and play area for children which is why we love it.

Stopped here yesterday for some food, got a half cooked burger and chips burnt to a crisp which the kids didn’t even touch! Absolutely disgusting raised my issue to which they agreed could clearly see the burger was undone and chips were basically oil paid £14 for the burger and £5.50 for each kids meal was given £5 refund! Extremely disappointing for a nice country pub def avoid if ur looking for some good food!

4.2 stars? How can this be? Chain kitchen pub, rundown appearance, unfriendly staff. I've eaten worse places, but don't be deceived by this place's rating.

Food terrible. Kids menu is a few overdone chips with a ropey burger or sausages with no veg. I went for the Caesar salad special. Received 3 small strips of chicken, skin still on, on top of a few leaves of salad clearly straight out of a bag, places on top of a sea of caesar sauce. Unacceptable
