We turned up this evening without having made a booking and were told that we could have a table but would need to wait 55minutes. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. Unfortunately my pint of beer was off, I was given an apology and the beer replaced with another which was fine. After about 45 minutes we were seated at a table in the bar area but no one took our order until I asked at the bar for this to be done. We ordered rump steak and gammon. Both meals were fine but the steak was a little tough and my wife’s gammon was on the thin side. The beer I ordered with the waitress didn’t arrive and I had to go back to the bar again. As we were sat in the bar area we had to put up with choice language from a group of men at the bar and a couple sat nearby had a fairly large dog with them. I have no issues with dog friendly pubs but this dog barked very loudly and annoyingly throughout the entire meal and the owners were unable to stop it happening. When the bill came I saw that I had been overcharged having been charged for the sour beer, as well as the replacement. As if this wasn’t bad enough, I had in also been charged an additional 10% service charge for it! There is an automatic 10% service charge added and it takes no account of drinks consumed at the bar nor for poor service.

I’ve attended this pub twice, both at private functions. The pub is beautiful, albeit short but for such an old building I hardly think that’s a worthy issue, just take notice of the duck signs! The staff are excellent, provide a quality service, and are most welcoming. The food provided at the functions was impeccable. It was well prepared, well presented, and tasted fantastic. Luke, the manager, is a class act. That is all that needs to be said. A friendly man, and an excellent face for this brilliant pub. Will visit again in the future for dinner and drinks, and will be delighted to enjoy it as much as I have on both visits. 10/10

Great Venue! We recently had our wedding reception at the Black Horse and from start to finish Luke (the manager) made us feel at ease. We had already eaten in the pub a few time before so we knew how good the food was going to be, and the day of our wedding was no different. Luke and all the staff did a fantastic job with our wedding in all aspects and we couldn’t thank them enough. As for the pub itself it is a beautifully kept traditional English pub with a variety of places to sit inside & out. The roast dinner is a must if here on a Sunday too!! Would highly recommend contacting Luke for any future events. Nath & Sara

The beer did not taste great. The steaks were average. The salads had a funny, slightly charcoal aftertaste on the meat. The service was mediocre at best with no offer of a dessert menu or coffees. The noise in the pub was intolerable. We asked for it to be turned down in The dining area - which is was - but it was then turned up ultra loud in the squiffy boozers area of the bar - so you still could not hold a conversation. Most unsatisfactory.

Our whole experience was absolutely incredible. We are visiting from Australia and came in with our baby and the staff were more than accomodating for our pram. We sat in the garden out the back of the pub on a beautiful day and it was abundantly clear that the pub was very child and pet friendly as well as being a place where locals and visitors alike all gather. We ordered the Chorizo bravas starter and the Sunday roast and both were excellent. The yorkshires were great and the trimmings were all cooked just right. Special shout out to the staff who made our experience even better by being so helpful and really lovely. We can’t wait to return in the future next time we are in England. We visited for lunch, with two dogs and three of us, on a rainy British Thursday and it was great! Firstly, dogs and kids are very welcome and the team here at The Black Horse are lovely. Its got a great local pub feel and you can eat and drink from the plentiful main menu, specials or lunch menu (dependent on time of day of course). The roaring fire on a wet and cold day was well appreciated and well tended to 👏🏻 The food, was brilliant. We had lunch, so it was Falafel Wrap, Beef Burger and Buttermilk Chicken Burger for us, which were all expertly prepared. Delicious! Topping it off with some equally well made coffees and ice cream and we were suitably well fed. Its the lovely people here that shone the most though. The Chef, Bar Staff, Manager, were all really friendly and are such a nice bunch, thank you guys 👏🏻 We stayed nearby at the equally brilliant Lincoln Farm Park and if you're staying there, drop by and support the local, you won't be disappointed.

We enjoyed our meal here - the food was good and the staff attentive. For a quietish meal in the restaurant though, there was a telly rigged up showing the rugby and the volume was extremely loud which clouded our experience as we struggled to hear ourselves talk. The bar got very busy towards the end of our meal, to the point where the staff rather gave up paying attention to the diners and we had to fight our way to the busy bar through people (loud music by this point) and ask if we could pay as we'd been waiting ages for someone to come back and take our money.

It was OK. It wasn't bad as such. Staff OK, bit slow service-wise. Not as attentive as one would expect. Local 'yoof' drinkers seem to be well catered for. Food OK. Mostly. Prawn & Chorizo starters - tasty but very minimalist. Chorizo is not that expensive. Mains - Fish & Chips good (MASSIVE chips !). Chicken with Cajun fries/chips = chicken & PLAIN fries/chips. No Cajun spice/seasoning at all. Someone either forgot or more than one person (chef & server) doesn't know the menu. Sausage & mash - very disappointing. I hate to say it but really very bland/poor sausages (2 thin chipolata type/looking and similar to those you might get for a greasy spoon breakfast), mash was just OK but dry, very little gravy (as in VERY LITTLE) and fried onions were, er, 6 pieces as a token gesture. You would have been better not putting those 6 measly pieces on the mash as it looked like you had either run out or were simply skimping. So for food 1+1/2+1/2+1/2 = 2 1/2 out of 4 maximum I'm sorry to say.

Took my elderly dad out for Sunday roast as recommended by a local friend. First impressions are great, a lovely pub, with lots of character, but unfortunately the service and experience took a nose dive thereafter. Although the eating area was not fully booked, we were seated in a small recess, which I guess used to be a cupboard, not at all ideal for a 90 year old, and no offer of alternative seating, even though available. As said by previous guests the service was disjointed and several people attended us (when they remembered) and we had long waits in between, to the point we had to prompt ourselves to ask for the desserts menu. A steak knife would be a good option for the roast beef (poor dad struggled to cut up his meat) and when asked for feedback at the end, felt they are not really bothered or care and were just going through the motions. Told they were ‘short staffed’ but as dad commented the staff had time to chat amongst themselves and with the bar customers! Happy with the prices and food was ok, but overall there are better comparable places nearby who provide a better total customer experience who we would rather patronise.

We went to the Black horse pub for dinner last night. It was barbecue night, we had a booking at 7.30pm. The staff were rushed off their feet and most of what was on the menu was sold out , which is most likely a teatament to the quality of food. Our the meal took a while to arrive and the chef offered a free drink to compensate which we refused as we are not big drinkers. We ordered steak and a chicken kebab and the food was cooked beaurifully and my steak perfection. I have nothing bad to say really, except for some patrons who were rude to the staff about the wait or being turned away. Not sure how many people read these reviews, but perhaps recognise that the young ones at the restaurant are working as hard as they can and perhaps a little kindness would go a long way. All in all. I'd recommend the place 100% . Perhaps plan an earlier dinner if you want the specials for the day 😁

Decided to book here for Sunday lunch as it was recommended by someone locally and we'd not visited since it was refurbished a good few years back. It's a lovely village pub and we didn't have a problem booking a table online a few days before hand. Food wise, it's five stars but we found it a little on the expensive side. The roast beef was £22 but it was a lovely plate, generous amount of meat, crispy spuds and some lovely seasonal green beans which came from the small garden plot out the back. The kids fish and chips was £10 but was enjoyed by our younger diner. Dessert wise, didn't find the choice very inspiring so we ordered a children's brownie which was £6, only £1 less than the full price menu one. Service wise it was okay but we had 3 or 4 different people serve various bits which I think makes things a bit disjointed and you don't get much continuity. Our bill was also charged wrong as there were a couple of things on it we hadn't had which doesn't close off the experience on a great note. There was also a 12% service charge on all dining bills which is a little unusual for a pub and also increased our spend (not adverse to this as worked in hospitality for many years but prefer to have the choice to leave a tip). We would recommend if you want a lovely Sunday lunch in an equally lovely pub but it was a little more expensive compared to our usual expectations and recent experiences. Not sure we'd return straight away as a few other places in the area that we want to check out or go back to first.

Had dinner booked here on a Monday evening. Most things were off the menu which was disappointing. There was no chicken jerk, no lobster and only one pie left. I’m not sure how as I believe the pub does not yet serve lunch on Mondays so to be off the menu by 7pm is quite something! Instead of a dessert I ordered a liqueur coffee which was on the menu. I couldn’t have this either and was told that only the manager can make these and wasn’t working…! Also, the back garden is looking a bit scruffy and overgrown and wasn’t a particularly nice place to enjoy a drink. The only good thing I can find to say about a really disappointing evening was that the 2 girls working were friendly and doing their best.

Popped in for a bite of lunch and ordered the fish butty on malted bread with tartar sauce and the chicken, mozzarella with pesto panini. Well what we had vaguely resembled the above. No malted bread so they served the fish butty in a panini no Tatar sauce but covered the battered fish in garlic mayonnaise??? The chicken pesto panini was deep fried chicken in bread crumbs on a slab of mozzarella with no pesto but garlic mayonnaise again?? If they had said they had no malted bread, tartar sauce or pesto we would have chosen something else. Just for the record garlic mayonnaise doesn’t work with these dishes. The young ladies behind the bar were delightful. No I didn’t tell them so they can put it right as I don’t think basics like this deserve a second chance. Perhaps the chef thought we wouldn’t notice which speaks volumes.

It's been a few years since I stopped in, but I'm very glad we did as the menu was varied with great options. My son had the burger, probably the best burger I've tried in a very long time, and I had two of the smaller plates with a salad. Beautifully cooked food, with just great combination of flavours; even the salad was was tasty and fresh and varied ( usually the weak point). My son also had the special of the chocolate mousse for dessert...well, for the chocoholics amongst us, I will just smile and say "leave room for dessert"! The service was just spot on too, with nothing missed and a professional but friendly attitude. Very reasonably priced as well. Definitely will be back next time I'm up in the area.

We would like to thank Luke, Jamie & The Team at The Black Horse for a superb weekend. We came in for steak night on Thursday & Lunch on Sunday and were both exceptional. The Easter egg hunt for the kids on Sunday in the garden was a lovely touch and they thoroughly enjoyed it. We have booked already for when we are back in July. Thank you so much Bradshaw Family

Nice pub, the roast dinner was lovely. However the service was disappointing, food was missing, didn't get the second drink we ordered, waited 40 mins for someone to take our dessert order and nothing, so in the end we ditched the dessert and left.

Went for mothering Sunday lunch , had roast lamb and it was beautiful as was all the diners, the service was brilliant the only downside was the pudding I had the sticky toffee pudding but had custard instead of ice cream so I had no toffee sauce which was a let down

Visited for drinks on Saturday and for lunch on Sunday as we were staying nearby. Staff were very friendly and really welcomed our dog. We all agreed the roast dinners were the best we’d had, really amazing. Will definitely visit again.

As a lady on her own it is not always easy to go out to a pub. You tend to feel like a square peg in a round hole. The Black Horse is different. The staff are welcoming, they talk to you; the food is...

I can’t knock the quality of the roast dinner, it was lovely, just felt somewhat ripped off the be charged £3 plus service because we asked for some more gravy because it was a bit sparse…

A friend and I met for an excellent lunch with some delicious beer, both local and well-known. The steak, sandwich and fish goujons were delicious and the chef even did the rounds of the tables introducing himself to the customers. Highly recommended.

We came in on a Friday night at 6:30pm on the off chance we could get a table. Very accommodating whilst already busy with locals having drinks/meals. We were served promptly and chose two meals from the ‘favourites’ board. Good quality food, cooked well and really tasty. Reasonably priced too with generous portions. Our only negative was that the guy on the bar was completely swamped! People waiting to be served and working the restaurant too… he remained courteous and attentive whilst stretched but in our opinion there should have been another staff member as small errors in the orders, not bringing condiments etc when requested due to his busyness could have been easily avoided. All in all though a great place to come for an impromptu evening meal. Thank you

A nice pub with lots of options for families. Staff were really friendly and helpful for was good but not of the greatest quality. My burger was tasty but dry and nothing on side with burger and chips e.g salad or slaw

My wife and I booked a midweek break with our pet dog. Upon arrival we were shown to our room which was spotlessly clean and very well furnished and equipped. The bed was superbly comfortable and a good night's sleep was assured! Dinner was absolutely superb, first class locally sourced ingredients. Cooked to perfection by the top chef - Adam Brown. Breakfast was again top class. Staff were welcomimg friendly and helpful. All in all a superb midweek break. Highly recommended and we will certainly be revisiting again soon. Our dog was very well looked after with a comfy bed and treats.
