My partner's family booked in for celebrating one of his sisters bithday. Best meal ever. The restaurant and staff are lovely. The starters are delicious especially scallops, fresh and juicy. We also had bread and butter from nibblers, wellcooked handmade bread I ever had. Mains are also great, can't fault a Steak cooked to perfection. We had a good time and will definitely go back.

Food review on hold until kitchen open, but this is a traditional Grade II listed English pub - sorry, does mean watch your head. See the pubs in Midsomer Murders, with real atmosphere and genuine locals enjoying excellent hand-pumped Brakspears ales. New young and enthusiastic tenants bring sparkle to the establishment.

First visit. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Nice busy pub with a pleasant atmosphere. Had the Sunday carvery which didn't disappoint. Good choice of turkey, beef and gammon with a varied choice of vegetables. Following a perfect Sunday lunch we will be returning again. Recommend booking well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Lovely sweet staff but useless. Guinness barrel needed changing. We were sat for food. Ordered a bottle of wine and given no glasses. At which point we were the only people in either food or drinking area. Ordered food. Sorry we dont have that. Sorry we dont have any of that. All once we had sat and had time to choose. Given steaks with no steak knives. Lamb with no sauce. Which tasted like chargrill more than any type of meat. The chocolate fudge cake was a chocolate brownie.

We arrived on Saturday, 6th July, around 10:30/11am. The queue was long as expected. It was raining outside, and we saw a group of people queuing under cover, so we joined, asking if this was the correct queue, and they confirmed it was. It wasn't until we got closer to the front that we saw a sign indicating we needed to see the person inside for seating. Overall, we waited nearly 50 minutes for a table for two. The queuing system was quite bizarre, and it would have been helpful to have a sign at the beginning of the queue indicating the need to speak to someone inside for a table. We weren’t the only ones confused. At no point did any staff member come out to clarify the process, but they did seem to usher in people behind us, and then we wondered what was going on. In retrospect, I'm not sure why we waited so long, but perhaps hunger made us persevere. While the coffee was lovely, we noticed several empty tables inside which would have seated two, as you can't book and a lack of urgency from the staff member checking in. My husband noted that his sausages were cold. When we paid, nobody asked about our experience, which felt like a missed opportunity for feedback. The queuing system needs significant improvement, particularly with better signage or staff guidance. The service lacked attentiveness. I won't be rushing back.

As always the staff were helpful and polite. However, we were not happy about the air conditioning being put on in October and as we were sitting almost directly underneath an air vent, it became very uncomfortable and chilly sitting there. This spoilt the experience somewhat. I ordered the salmon muffin for lunch which was on a 'toasted' muffin. Sadly, the muffin was rather soft and didn't taste toasted at all. Otherwise an agreeable place to eat.

Came for a family gathering and found the venue very convenient - and we stayed overnight after the event so this was even better. We were able to bring in food for the event and there was a good space available for meeting, chatting with drinks and sitting to eat the sandwiches and cakes. Staff were very friendly and the drinks were well kept and served by friendly staff. A good evening. The rooms are small but well-appointed and although no breakfast is served they frovide an inclusive breakfast pack with cereal, juice and snacks. Rooms seem newly built as an annex and have good facilities - double bed in our room was firm enoough - large TV and good shower in the en-suite.
