Just We have had the worst restaurant meal this lunchtime for many years at No.4 Abbeygate. A new Chef is most definitely needed and much needed staff training is also necessary too. Lovely polite youngsters working there however they are not well trained. If you order two courses they should immediately bring another knife and fork or soup spoon however this did not happen so sitting there with my soup for several minutes waiting for a spoon. Still no further cutlery for main course so I am sitting there with just a fork and my husband no cutlery when main course arrived. Then we had to wait again for them to go and get cutlery. No offer of any horseradish with the roast beef meals so I had to call a waiter back and ask for it. Now to our main gripe the actual food! (Photo attached of the plates sent back at end of the main course.) My husband had a nondescript pate to start with although toasted bread was lovely, I had the leek and potato soup that closely resembled thick wall paper paste and had no flavour it dropped off the spoon in globules gross. Again the bread was good so dipped it but had to leave most of the soup as horrid. We both had the roast beef main course and most of the meal was burnt as you can see in the photo. The beef was so tough we could not eat it, the roast potatoes were like rubber they seemed to have been recooked several times I actually cannot even imagine how they managed to get them so bad no potato just this thick rubbery skin with nothing inside it đ¤˘, the cauliflower cheese looked ok but when you touched it, it disintegrated it was like mush, the roasted carrots were burned, the other boiled/steamed vegetables were terribly over cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were over cooked/burnt and they were just like crisps on a positive note the parsnips were ok. We have eaten at No 4 several times over the last few years and never previously had any complaints so goodness knows why they have gone downhill like this. It was all so bad we ended up laughing it was the real talking point of the day. We did tell them how bad it was when they removed the plates and the young waiter came back and said the manager had knocked the drinks off the bill. My husband said he could think of better ways to spend ÂŁ47 (without drinks) which considering what we actually ate is so very true.

I have lived close to Haverhill for over 15 years and for the first time I thought as I was going to the Dentist, I'd have a big fry up breakfast just in case it was going to be some hours before I could eat again. I was made to feel welcome on entry and found a table easier, (this was about 11am). I ordered the number 1 and had a cappucino whilst I was waiting. I could hear them cooking it and after 15 mins out in came and it looked lovely. I was not disappointed, very tasty indeed. I was asked when I was going to pay what I thought and I said it was yummy and I hope to be back again soon. Well done Amber Cafe. Keep up the excellent work.

Day trip to Bury St. Edmunds and called here for lunch. Great menu choices and nice environment too. All staff were pleasant, particularly our server who was friendly and helpful. Drinks and food orders taken and served pretty quickly. Great choice for lunch.

Booked a special family lunch for a special birthday. Tried to book over the telephone, but nobody ever answered, left 3 answerphone messages and nobody came back to us, eventually had to send an email and then somebody rang back, I was trying to pay them the ÂŁ90 deposit they insist on!! Not a good start. The âwelcomeâ at the restaurant was non existent, it seemed we were an inconvenience! After 20 mins nobody had come to take a drinks order and we had to try and catch a waitresses attention, many drinks were ânot availableâ, drinks took a long time to eventually arrive (a beer was served in a wine glass!!) and still nobody had come to take out food order, again, we had to get their attention and ask to order, this is just not acceptable, the staff do not actively look around the restaurant to see that customers are not needing anything, this is noted in several reviews. The starters all arrived hap hazardly, some of us had finished whilst some had not even arrived, terrible. Several items on the mains were wrong, missed off or forgotten, one of us asked for no mushrooms as have an allergy (incidentally, nobody asked if we had any allergies) but the meal came with mushrooms on the top, when queried, they took the plate away, scrapped off the mushrooms and brought it back! Having any mushroom residue can still cause any allergic reaction! All in all, the service was extremely slow, non attentive, sullen and as if we were a nuisance. This place charges a lot for what is actually offered, it is rather pretentious, we do not object to paying premium prices if the food and service reflects this, but, unfortunately The Leaping Hare provides neither. Very disappointing. Which is a shame.

What a fab stopover, we had 2 nights here around our son's wedding, couldn't have asked for better service. We has 2 great meals including a Sunday lunch for 17 of the family. The staff couldn't have been more accomodating. Water available and loos when the pub was open and level parking. Lovely walks through the fields with our dog, highly recommended. Thank you
