Ate here recently. The food was, unfortunately, a mixed bag - the ballotine was ok, rescued primarily by the puree and carrots. The hake was delicious, but the prawns served atop it were painfully overcooked, and had lost all texture and flavour as a result. For the price, the food should be better. It wasn't even particularly busy.

Cosy and posh. We had a lovely afternoon tea there for my partners birthday. Amazing view. There is no changing unit for a baby, but the place is family friendly

Went for a family dinner recently. The staff are so polite, friendly, and attentive. They made it a relaxing and enjoyable evening. The food was outstanding from the best beef wellington we've every tasted, to the sumptuous sirloin and skate steaks to the melt-in-your-mouth fillets. The portions were just right. However, the deserts were the stars of the meal. The apple pie and carrot cakes looked like they came out of a movie. We unanimously agreed this was the best meal out we've ever had.

We went for a meal. I had beef wellington. The pastry was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. I did mention it to the waitress. She didn’t come back and say she had spoken to the chef! Took age to clear out plates. When they did clear the plates they left one on the table and brought the desert menu. Staff were very friendly just need training. I would suggest a mystery diner once a month as the setting was truly wonderful!

2 stars for the lovely brand new place But there is a lot of work to be running to a high standards. Young staff that require training. Charging to use the facilities for only 2 hours either limited hours was the biggest let down for me . The rooms are super small, there are no music system. Lack of attention on the details. There were no shampoo in my room.

We had an excellent stay. Can say nothing but wonderful things about the staff, a special shout out to David. Ryan, Emma, Annabelle, Lucy, Katie and all the other people on the staff. The facility was new. Has a few teething problems, but would highly recommend it. The spa was exclusive and absolutely wonderful. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

My other half and I use the marquis as our favourite spot to celebrate (birthdays, achievements, etc) and are always excited for our meals here. Since our last visit the venue has really flourished in presentation, they have expanded their venue and it does look wonderful, the attention to details - woodwork craft and decor is lovely. We arrived excited as usual, however became slightly nervous at the price increase of the meals, but we felt comfort in the portions and quality from previous experiences, plus we’re celebrating and figured we deserve to treat ourselves guilt free. For starters we shared the dressed crab and the steak tartar (which I was most excited for as it’s typically my go to starter when dining) - both presented beautifully, however the taste was slightly lacklustre, the crabs pairing of flavours and plays with textures and temperatures were interesting though somewhat strange. Most unfortunately the anticipated steak tartar was disappointing - though a nice amount of great quality meat, only a very small quail egg to mix, no seasoning at all, no acid and no option of spice either and the strangest thing is it was served with a popadom? Though neither of us were particularly impressed with them they were £19 each so we felt compelled to finish them, wrote it off as a fluke and remained excited for our mains. My partner had the beef wellington (his favourite from the marquis) at an increased £44 and I had my very first half a lobster at £30. The lobster, chips, salad and truffle mayonnaise was quite nice. My partners beef wellington (as usual) was beautifully cooked and tender, the only downside of the dish was the lack of additions to the plate, at £44 we hoped for more as previous orders of the wellington had the same amazing quality meat but the plate was near brimming and at a smaller price, so on comparison it was disappointing. We had a coffee outside to finish with a lovely view of the garden space, my double espresso was cold after a minuet, but I write that off as my error for not testing the heat first and judging then, rather than assuming it would be piping and need a minuet. The service overall was a somewhat hit and miss - one waitress was kind and attentive, the floor managers eye for details were as usual superb however they were focused on the floor and functioning in general so we understandably didn’t see much of them. Some staff I feel could have more training - like pouring the water for us when being served or opening the doors for us (if able) perhaps be warmer/ friendlier with the customers as it was a quite night, just small things that I feel go a bit further in a fine dining experience. The loo in the restaurant had no toilet roll, and wasn’t very clean. On my way back I briefly peeked into the open room (possible meeting space) out of interest in the changes, I think I was spotted by one of the jacketed men from a distance because after I sat back at the table, he went into that space straight after and then left I believe to check? I’m not sure why but I felt a bit strange about that. Overall we spent £170 +tip, our choice and we knew the prices upon ordering, however it was unfortunately our least favourite meal/ experience at the marquis which I hate to say. We came away feeling a bit embarrassed to have spent that money over 2 courses for an outcome we feel wasn’t worth it. I felt like the consistency in care of presentation throughout is a forward thought across the establishment, however I feel that the substance (some dishes, pricing and staff/customer relationship etc) were a slight afterthought. If this is read I hope the staff don’t take this review personally, I previously worked in fine dining and know the effort that goes in, I want to be as balanced on this as possible and hope you’re all enjoying your work. We are considering other venues for or next celebration however don’t want to say goodbye to the marquis completely after one night, we hope that this is a fluke and that perfection returns soon (and hope the prices lower a tad)

Had a great meal here, the staff were lovely and the food was great, they have a fantastic wine selection to enjoy with some of the best view around sitting out on the terrace..the restaurant is beautifully designed with an open kitten concept. It's great being able to see into the service kitchen which adds a different dimension to the experience. We both had specials for our mains which were fantastic but can also highly recommend the petit fours which were extremely good and very interesting. We will most definitely be back again soon

Sublime food, absolutely immaculate. The restaurant is based in picturesque Suffolk countryside and the theme follows suit with a contemporary, rustic and beautiful building. We were looked after very well by the staff and immediately welcomed In. The food was amazing, absolutely top notch. And the focaccia is to die for. Well all of it is to be honest!

Went here on a first date for coffee ... Good coffee, good service, good first date ... We were both (my date and I) made to feel really welcome by all the friendly and efficient staff there. Beautiful surroundings (even though it was raining) and the place itself is lovely! The date went so well, that we've already got a second one booked. Thanks to all the staff there that helped make our date such a memorable one!

My daughter treated my wife and I to an overnight stay with an evening meal and breakfast as a package as a christmas gift. It needs to be said from the outset that all the staff we met or spoke to were absolutely first class in their appearance, service delivery and attentiveness. The food was simply outstanding in presentation, taste and efficiency from ordering to serving it to our table was excellent. Our room was immaculate with fabulous views across fields and a meandering stream. Sadly our wonderful experience was ruined when we were placed for our evening meal in the middle of two other small tables both occupied by other couples barely a single table apart. Simply put, the placing the tables was ridiculously close where we felt like battery hens in a cage and any form of intimacy or privacy just wasnt impossible. We hastily ate our starters and mains in asked to be placed in the bar to have our dessert as we were unable to tolerate the situation any further. I spoke to a member of staff and informed her of our feelings. Had it not been for this my review wouldve been the perfect scores. I would need alot of persuading to return and only would if they review their seating plan particularly for tables for two. My advice for any couples looking to eat at the restaurant is find somewhere else unless you particulay enjoy sharing a meal on a table with total strangers.

Reluctantly we felt we had to publish this on Tripadvisor as we contacted the venue twice to pass comment and have had no response for over a week now.

We were a party of five work colleagues celebrating a business milestone, the setting is superb with wonderful views over open countryside. The building has been upgraded tastefully with no expense spared, staff were attentive and well presented and the menu tempting. All five of us enjoyed our starter particularly the scallops with black pudding, I personally was disappointed with the main course (Ribeye Steak) and the cheese board was really not very good for the price. i asked my guests what they would score their meals and hence we have come up with a collective score of 3.5..... I had eaten breakfast here and whilst expensive it is very good. i would not put off people visiting here but I am not convinced by the consistent quality of the offerings.

Crowds every day with the after work folks. Nice pub atmostphere with plenty of brews on tap, including Blue Moon. Although the servings were hearty, the food was average. Easy walk from Russel Square tube station.

My wife and I always try to have lunch here when visiting Bury St Eds but there are times when the dining area is full, yesterday we were in luck and found a vacant table. My wife ordered the quiche which was a good size and, to quote, was very nice. I had the Pilgrims rarebit thinking it would be a nice snack-sized lunch before continuing our shopping. What a surprise when it arrived; it was like a slightly reduced in size dinner main course and positively delicious in all respects. It was delivered to our table in good time by a lady waiting staff member who had a great sense of humour and, further, made us feel most welcome. Both my wife and I wondered how they could present meals of these proportions at their prices when, at least for my rarebit, I would feel it would be a few £s more in nearby cafes/restaurants.
