Always a great out in the countryside place to visit for a drink, lunch or dinner. Sit by the beautiful fireside in a comfy chair, dogs welcome on leads so your furry friend can accompany you too, or eat in the dining room or garden. Large garden for kids to run around and have fun. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Only question is why haven't you been yet and secondly, can you keep it a secret so there's a table free for me when I visit? 😜😁🥂

To celebrate our eldest daughter's 50th. birthday we went to the Queen's Head for dinner. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Service was extremely slow and we were overwhelmed by the size of portions of the battered haddock which was very oily so a lot was wasted. The chairs were very hard and uncomfortable.

A beautiful old dog friendly country pub complete with low beams and open fires. Although it is August it was a cool day and a fire was lit while we were there. Set in the lovely Suffolk countryside. We were made welcome on our arrival and shown our table. A good menu with vegetarian option. For starters my daughter and mysel had pea, bean and herb soup wit croutons and blue cheese, Unusual but very nice. my husband had Duck spring rolls. My husband and myself ordered the double roast (pok and beef) for the main course and our daughter had the fish pie. Served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables. Both meats were cooked to perfection the beef was medium rare and the pork cooked just right, both were very tender. Half the plate was meat lovely thick slices, in fact so much that we asked if we could take what we couldn't eat home with us, it was packed up in a takeaway box for us. The fish pie was full of chunks of fish in a lovely thick sauce with a puff pastry top. We were so full that we couldn't eat a dessert of what looked like a delicious menu. We would definitely recommend the Queens Haead and will be going back. Well done team.

Fantastic find, recommended to us by a couple who live locally. Characterful building inside and out, much smaller than it appears but it is home to the most welcoming host and friendly group of local patrons. Fine selection of drinks and the food is really lovely. Wanted to eat there again during our week's stay in the area but it was fully booked. Lost a piece of jewellery at some point and, quite literally, everyone there set about looking for it, it was amazing how helpful they were. Totally blown away by their concern and kindness. (It turned up, so all good!).

This has been my favourite 'local' pub for years despite being some 30+ minutes drive from our home. We had dinner there on 6th April to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday (low key event). My wife and I both had the battered haddock which was a good size although when cutting into the batter we noticed oil oozed out. So I'm not sure whether it was removed from the hot oil too quickly and not left to drip dry or something else. So we were somewhat disappointed. Our friends had the beef en croute and burger which they said were good. The food over many years has been excellent. We hadn't been there for lunch/dinner for over a year. We also noticed the menu appeared shorter than we recalled which is not always an issue. I do recall some years ago there used to be an outstanding fish pie, but I know menus change although I'd like such a meal to be available all the time.

Sunday Roast Delicious 😋 Party of 6 had a mixture of Sunday roasts. Very generous portions, excellent crackling and authentic hot horseradish. Lots of fresh veg and gravy, staff are all friendly and welcoming. Fantastic wine list, only shame was my husband was looking forward to drinking some of their own microbrewery beers which weren’t available. We will definitely be going back. 4.5 stars actually. Only a little taken off because of the lack of attention paid to my friend’s pre-arrangements for gluten and dairy free items for a few guests. Otherwise, we had a family style roast dinner, which was quite frankly amazing. One of our party of 25 had to carve the beef, but that meant it was quite generous! Greens (cabbage, green beans and pea pods), carrots and parsnips, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes (stellar), Yorkshire puddings (amazing) including gluten free ones, and gravy. And apple crumble that was out of this world.

Aggressive locals ruined a perfectly pleasant evening with my parents who I haven’t seen for a year. I was very, very sad to be verbally abused by a loud person outside the establishment. While the food and drinks were absolutely fantastic, I did not expect to be made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Me and my boyfriend were really excited to visit the restaurant as we are visiting from Canada to see my family in suffolk. Sadly, this verbal abuse encounter and prior to that, loud political discussions, mean that I would NOT recommend this place to friends and family. Until the pub deals with aggressive, rowdy patrons who abuse other patrons please avoid this place. Awful experience - booked for Tuesday evening at 7pm but now regret turning up and spending a lot of money on a lovely meal. Remove your bigoted patrons.

Decided to have dinner here following recommendation and reading the reviews. Not sure what went wrong but clearly didn’t get the experience others have had. Whilst the service was good and welcoming the food was anything but. The buffalo wings were plain with an unpleasant sauce that tasted like it came from a packet. The margarita pizza was clearly over-cooked and shouldn’t have left the kitchen except in the bin. My wife had the risotto which didn’t look appetising and she told me it was too rich and didn’t finish it. Whilst my nephew had a calzone which was the most ok of all the dishes but still not anything worth repeating

Dinner on Friday night. The bar was heaving at 18.30 hrs but the eating area was relaxed and welcoming. The staff were lovely. Friendly and tried hard. The food was piping hot and the service speedy. The cod featured on the fish and chips was slightly greasy, but offered a huge portion. The Green Thai curry was flavoursome and tasty, but the portion was just too big, even for a big appetite. The “lobster “ was in fact a crayfish. It was tasty , but the portion resulted in two small mouthfuls.Disappointing and over priced. I asked for a coke with a dash of Angostura bitters. Third visit in as many years, arrived unannounced at seven on a Sunday evening in August. "Table for 3, certainly sir" from the very helpful front of house. The bars were full and the place was hopping....not many places serving food on a Sunday evening, not many places this good; not your usual pub grub with choice of 3 ghastly new world wines. Food was top notch as good as I've eaten anywhere, but the wine list is truly excellent by UK pub standards. Shhhh! don't tell everyone.

My wife and I always try to have lunch here when visiting Bury St Eds but there are times when the dining area is full, yesterday we were in luck and found a vacant table. My wife ordered the quiche which was a good size and, to quote, was very nice. I had the Pilgrims rarebit thinking it would be a nice snack-sized lunch before continuing our shopping. What a surprise when it arrived; it was like a slightly reduced in size dinner main course and positively delicious in all respects. It was delivered to our table in good time by a lady waiting staff member who had a great sense of humour and, further, made us feel most welcome. Both my wife and I wondered how they could present meals of these proportions at their prices when, at least for my rarebit, I would feel it would be a few £s more in nearby cafes/restaurants.
