Really nice food and good value for money! However, it took ages for our food to come out and the the beer garden seats were broken.. other than a few minor issues I recommend visiting!

My family and I visited the Macebearer on a quiet Friday afternoon, we love the menu choice here, catering for children of different ages as well as adults and even seniors! The food was served hot, well presented and tasted lovely! We sat in the garden which was great for my little ones, as it is enclosed with a gate to keep them in. The plates where cleared away promptly and the staff where very friendly. Another great visit, and very affordable!

Popped in the other day for a bite to eat, was not dissapointed! I had the cod and chips, much better value than the chip shop, without any compromise! Will definitely be returning!

Went in for football with my dad and the atmosphere was amazing! Service was fast and everyone was so friendly. The staff were very polite and were fast to serve me. Ian the owner was very friendly, came over to check everything was okay and had a chat about the football. The food was also very good and I really enjoyed it! I’ll definitely be returning and bringing more friends and family.

Popped in hear for some food after visiting the local hospital and was very impressed. The food was great and the service was just the same! Would definitely return if I was more local.

Decent pub for outsiders, just a run of the mill GK pub. Odd landlord who has zero perception to his base customer needs and has no real people skills. It's an estate pub which relies massively on local, repeat customers. Hanging on..

Stopped in for a burger and cold drink to replenish when moving house just down the road, burgers were delicious and juicy, staff were all friendly and it was just what we needed, great value for money and didn’t have to wait long either.

I attended the macebearer for a quiz night on Wednesday and after taking part in a number of quizzes around Bury st Edmunds, I have to say this is up there with the best of them. Great atmosphere and fun. Highly recommend.

We popped in as have walked past many times, what a little gem off a place, we came in on Monday night as they show a lot off sport, what a fantastic atmosphere everyone enjoying the match, we was served by Ian who may off been the person in charge as he was everywhere, making everyone feel welcome and attentive too, we managed to find a table so decided to order one off there burgers which was on offer, we was advised we could pre order ready for half time, which was a fantastic idea, the food arrived just as the Match was half time, the food was fantastic great value for money

I recently visited the Macebearer on a Sunday afternoon for the football. I had a great experience with a real bonus of getting 10% off drinks. I enjoyed a really tasty burger which was super value for money. The staff were attentive and friendly & the pub was clean and well maintained. I will definitely visit again when I’m in the area

Great family outing for lunch, service was prompt and pleasant. The variety of food and drink was great, something for everyone. Prices where very reasonable as we are of the 2 for £9.99 menu, all main meals where of good size,quality and presented great. Staff where very friendly, would definitely visit again. We also noticed on our visit that they show alot of good sport, so now my husband intends on popping in to watch England play in the upcoming games.

Went in for a quick lunch, the staff were very friendly. They had a good variety of food and the prices were really good for the amount of food we received.

Ordered our food and drinks at the bar with George; who asked if we would like any extras to go with our meals. Very friendly and efficient no wait for the food which was presented well 🤩

We arrived at 7:15pm Monday 23rd to have a meal because we saw signs saying they serve food until 9:00pm. However, after we’d sat at the table for 10 minutes looking at the menu we got told we couldn’t order as they stopped food at 8:00pm.

No frills estate pub but the atmosphere is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is good quality and good value. What more could you want?

Four of us visited today from West Suffolk Hospital. Food service was really slow and could not understand why. The guy behind the bar was very apologetic about the delay, not his fault ...but our food took over 40 minutes from ordering to arrive. Food was ok, pretty much standard Green King pub grub, price was ok. Kinda average but slow.

Recently moved near and using this now as my local. San Muguel Beer is Perfect. Food is Very nice and you can watch live sport .. I am Hong to love this place ....

Staff members are nice and friendly.Food is good pub food. Do children's menu s too.They don't have High chairs tho? Apparently being ordered. Only down side is the owner of this pub, can be very rude.But apparently he is leaving or has left.So give 5 out of 5.I visit around once a fortnight.

Visited this pub with friends as it recently been refurbished and heard there was a new chef so thought I would give it a try as I live on the estate. Would not eat there again, food was Luke warm and our meal came out first and it took a further 40 mins for our friends food to come out and there was only because we asked about it!!!!! Wasn't even offered a free coke whilst we wait yet another 10 mins for the food to come out!! Will take the short trip into town next time and not waste my money on Luke warm food.......

I visit the Macebearer once a week for a meal with my partner, at first we were skeptical as it is an estate pub, however our idea of it couldn't be further from the truth! The staff are very friendly and will always go out of their way to accomadate you and the decor and atmosphere is always nice.. In comparison to larger resturants this is better service and better value. The menu is good with a variety of food and the food is always greatly plated and most certainly exceeded my expectaions. The food hours are a little short so always worth a call first to ensure they are serving food as they change from the week to weekend. Would defo advise a try!

The Macebearer is the closest and handiest for the West Suffolk Hospital. We were taking a 98 year old WWII veteran to an out patient clinic at the hospital and stopped there for a light lunch. The 98 year old is rather set in his ways and although the Macebearer has a new menu, there was nothing to suit.The staff sprang into action and re-arranged the menu to find something that he was able to eat. When it arrived it was exactly what he wanted.The nature of the day was such that it was going to be stressful for an old man. The staff did all they could to make the experience pleasing and effort free.I cannot praise the staff highly enough!

I visited the pub twice now in the last month. I have always found the staff very friendly and helpful if you have any questions about the town or area. The beer was good and the burger I had with it was excellent. It is not a fancy place but a good place to go and meet the locals and enjoy yourself. I will go back again next time I am in the area

spent the afternoon here last weekend for the football..spot on pub good atmosphere and the food great..woiuld defo be coming back or a few beers and spot on food to be washed down

The Macebearer is a well established estate pub that serves food. It is not far from the West Suffolk Hospital and is the first eatery outside the hospital complex. My wife and I visited the Macebearer while waiting to pick up a patient.We both had a chicken, bacon and cheese dish with side salad and chips. The meal and the rest of the experience was average - not good, not bad - just average. It was not disappointing, but neither was it exciting.The only niggle was the chips. They had been rolled in flour before being deep fried. This meant that both the mouthfeel and the taste were different, not bad, just different.I know that this is a technique that is often used to impart a spicy flavour to the chips, but on this occasion it really didn't work. We don't eat a lot of chips, but when we do, we like them to have a taste that we are expecting. As I say, not bad, but not better than ordinary chips.Overall, the experience amounts to average. They obviously know their clientèle and that is whom they are catering for.
