Lovely place, lovely manager's great atmosphere would come again any day of the week. The staff are friendly and have great personalities would recommend.

A breath of fresh air......after watching the macebearer limp along for the last couple of years new life has been breathed back into the place, a new family have taken over our local pub, loving there enthusiasm and excitement about about their new venture, keep up the good work!!!

Great pub on the Nowton Estate serving a great range of GK beers and lagers. Recent refurbishment of this pub has given it a new lease of life. TNT Sports and Sky Sports on the TV and just in time for the Premier League season. Great welcome as always

This pub situated on the Nowton Estate in Bury St Edmunds is well supported by the locals. Great selection of cask ales and keg beers including Greene King IPA and others as well. Not too sure about food but I have known the pub to do Sunday Roasts between 12 and 4pm on Sundays ( of course). Great parking with two big car parks. Live sport on SKY and TNT Sports including Premier League football.

Served by a lovely bar lady, sadly didn't get her name. Lovely bright atmosphere and environment inside. Low maintenance back area with covered heated seating as well as picnic benches. Standard pub drink pricing.

Roast dinner was lovely, for £10 it was a big meal, perfect 😊 Friendly staff too ,bent over backwards to accommodate your needs 😊

When a client drops a 15 quid in an empty place, your appropriate response is thank you and please come again not being snotty and banging doors in their ear. I'll get my beer somewhere else in the future.

Popped in after a hospital visit, clean and tidy but unfortunately was a little too late (3pm) for a meal. Lady who served us with our drinks was very friendly, some customers already in were also friendly and chatty. Although quiet the atmosphere was relaxing and the enclosed garden area was lovely to sit in and soak up the sun.

Yeah it's not a bad pub, I have had food it wasn't the best but if it was about 3 to 4 pound cheaper it would have been better for quality to price , but other wise service and location good decor and is alright too

This is a wet pub don't be put up off by the outside its the people inside that makes this a proper pub.

Went in here for a couple of pints to try it out under the new management. Unfortunately the guest ale was 'off' despite having been told it was a new barrell. I suspect they hadn't sold any for a couple of days so it was the beer from the line. However we then went onto the IPA which was very nice. We spent a couple of hours in here and it was nice and enjoyable.

Great pub! Can't really comment on the beers as I mainly stick to soft drinks (usually driving these days) but the Landlord and staff are always cheerful and friendly/sociable. Thoroughly recommended.

Played a game of pool, then a couple games of darts. Bar staff member was lovely and friendly too

The MaceBearer was a great evening out at the Quiz Wednesday night bit of a pity the kitchen closed at 19.00 and the Quiz did'nt start until 20.30 but hey ho good night any way

Good old fashioned family pub...with sports tv! Child friendly. Usual Greene King menu - adaquate range within a budget price. Meals are well presented. . Friendly staff. Only marked down a star because we have visited twice...once we had to wait for food, the second time our main choice was out of stock. But would definitely return.

Could do with a touch up and food not always available but small and friendly.

My family and I visited the Macebearer on a quiet Friday afternoon, we love the menu choice here, catering for children of different ages as well as adults and even seniors! The food was served hot, well presented and tasted lovely! We sat in the garden which was great for my little ones, as it is enclosed with a gate to keep them in. The plates where cleared away promptly and the staff where very friendly. Another great visit, and very affordable!

The building looks worse than it is from the outside, inside its quiet nice. Went twice in one day as my dad was in the hospital up the road, first visit they didn't know how to make a coffee and the second my soft drink came with the stirrer upside down....so its a drinkers pub....which brings me on to the locals...... Would mix well with Donald Trump or Alf Garnet, no chance that any of them is going on mastermind. Conveinent but not nice.

Good duo singing Friday night, iv recently moved too area and attending the locals "local" can at seems be a bit off putting but was made very welcome, brilliant time and service ...thanks guys

Popped in the other day for a bite to eat, was not dissapointed! I had the cod and chips, much better value than the chip shop, without any compromise! Will definitely be returning!

Went in for football with my dad and the atmosphere was amazing! Service was fast and everyone was so friendly. The staff were very polite and were fast to serve me. Ian the owner was very friendly, came over to check everything was okay and had a chat about the football. The food was also very good and I really enjoyed it! I’ll definitely be returning and bringing more friends and family.

Exterior leaves a lot to be desired health &safety issues, staff are polite.

Decent pub for outsiders, just a run of the mill GK pub. Odd landlord who has zero perception to his base customer needs and has no real people skills. It's an estate pub which relies massively on local, repeat customers. Hanging on..

Stopped in for a burger and cold drink to replenish when moving house just down the road, burgers were delicious and juicy, staff were all friendly and it was just what we needed, great value for money and didn’t have to wait long either.

I attended the macebearer for a quiz night on Wednesday and after taking part in a number of quizzes around Bury st Edmunds, I have to say this is up there with the best of them. Great atmosphere and fun. Highly recommend.

We popped in as have walked past many times, what a little gem off a place, we came in on Monday night as they show a lot off sport, what a fantastic atmosphere everyone enjoying the match, we was served by Ian who may off been the person in charge as he was everywhere, making everyone feel welcome and attentive too, we managed to find a table so decided to order one off there burgers which was on offer, we was advised we could pre order ready for half time, which was a fantastic idea, the food arrived just as the Match was half time, the food was fantastic great value for money

I recently visited the Macebearer on a Sunday afternoon for the football. I had a great experience with a real bonus of getting 10% off drinks. I enjoyed a really tasty burger which was super value for money. The staff were attentive and friendly & the pub was clean and well maintained. I will definitely visit again when I’m in the area

Great family outing for lunch, service was prompt and pleasant. The variety of food and drink was great, something for everyone. Prices where very reasonable as we are of the 2 for £9.99 menu, all main meals where of good size,quality and presented great. Staff where very friendly, would definitely visit again. We also noticed on our visit that they show alot of good sport, so now my husband intends on popping in to watch England play in the upcoming games.

Went in for a quick lunch, the staff were very friendly. They had a good variety of food and the prices were really good for the amount of food we received.

Ordered our food and drinks at the bar with George; who asked if we would like any extras to go with our meals. Very friendly and efficient no wait for the food which was presented well 🤩

We arrived at 7:15pm Monday 23rd to have a meal because we saw signs saying they serve food until 9:00pm. However, after we’d sat at the table for 10 minutes looking at the menu we got told we couldn’t order as they stopped food at 8:00pm.

Visited for dinner.. half of the meals weren't even available.

Absolutely amazed by the food, recently been to the spread eagle in Bury St Edmunds but was very disappointed with green king food here. But recently been to the macebearer and was amazed by the food and how quick it came out. Had a family meal and we were all very satisfied. Thank you

Nice pub to pop into for a quiet drink and catch up with friends. Only ever been midweek afternoon so cannot comment on other times and days.

Good food, but a limited menu. Great if you want to get away from the hospital food and have a quality drink. Only downside is greedy kings monopoly on the real ale.

No frills estate pub but the atmosphere is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is good quality and good value. What more could you want?
