Don’t expect smiles in this place, but expect waiting for 10 min just to get tea in a dirty cup

They don't accept cash. This is simply a violation of our human rights. No signs anywhere stating this, I had a good look for one too. I think this is on purpose to mislead customers into the establishment and queue for a good few minutes, order their food etc, and only when they go to pay are they told they dont accept cash! Customers then have to decide whether to abandon what they just ordered and waited for, or begrudgingly pay by card! Place was stuffy and too hot, staff were miserable and didn't look like they wanted to be there. Will never return due to them not accepting legal tender. In a small market town, this is not supportive of the locals at all. No signs anywhere staying they do not accept cash. This should be clear on ENTERING, but they won't do this as they know they'll lose half their customers.

I am from Devon and really enjoy a devon and cornish pasty and had high hopes when we went in, I can honestly say this is the worst so called cornish pasty I have ever had. I had two pieces of meat in mine other half had one in his. It was really dry like it had been sat on a hot plate too long. A total waste of money and will not return.

Fresh off a 2 hour motorbike ride, we were treated with a warm welcome, hot pasties with crisp flaky pastry and some of the best hot chocolate we've had in a long time. Velvety smooth, and a fluffy rich cappucino to fuel us onwards. Thanks guys!

Iv been here a couple of times now and written a review once before but I just have to fo another . Each time Iv been served by Jessie , she’s an absolute delight . Always smiling , and patient , as my partner and I can’t decide which items to choose lol, it’s all so delicious . It’s always difficult to get a table which isn’t a complaint but an observation and proves that it’s very well supported which in itself means we are not the only people that love the atmosphere and food choices .

Nice little coffee shop, food offering is very very good. Staff are polite and friendly. Karine was very helpful in helping my indecisive partner choose some food.

I bought the chai latte and cauliflower and onion pasty, and it was DELICIOUS! I even came back the next day for more <3 The service was top tier and I would definitely recommend to a friend. Best believe you will be seeing me more in the future!

I have been coming to this wonderful cafe since it opened March 23. I want to highlight the wonderful coffee and pastries that are out of this world! And, I am a frequent visitor of many coffee shops in and around Bury! The other thing I want to highlight is the outstanding service I have consistently received from a young lady who I think is called Jen and her colleague who I believe is called Grace. I used to run a very successful organisation and would have willingly employed either, or both, the above personnel. Well done management for having such an effective recruitment system!!

Disappointing choice of cold drinks for children - only "homemade" lemonade (cordial and a can of schwepps) available. Cost £5-£15 per person for a pasty and drink. Doesn't accept cash!!

The seating situation during busy times is not fun as people circle tables like vultures. Additionally, the seats are worn and gross. Great food and coffee. Dog & kid-friendly, too.

I always enjoy my coffee at the Cornish Bakery, probably the best in Bury St Edmunds. But I would like to mention a particular member of your staff, Jen. She stands out with her magnificent customer service and attention to details. It took me a couple of visits to your place for her to know exactly what I need every single time, and how I like it. We don’t even have to ask her anymore, she’s got it all with a smile on her face. She is polite and absolutely lovely, a real asset to your branch. We always look forward to seeing Jen when we visit.

Good tasting food and coffee. Service was slow, considering how busy they were. Need to put more customer facing staff on when busy.

I had a great pasty here which was piping hot! My other half had a lovely Italian hot chocolate. I’ve been told it is the best hot chocolate she has ever had!

We called into this bakery this afternoon as we had walked past it earlier and thought it looked nice. On entering, there was no queue and it wasn’t very busy. A young girl was cleaning a shelf at the front and I asked her if they sold mince pies, to which she just stared at me, said ‘no’ and carried on what she was doing. I then asked if they usually did them but had just sold out maybe, to which she again replied with a very unfriendly ‘no’. I commented that was a bit unusual (considering the time of year), to which she replied ‘why?’ and ‘well I don’t cook’?! At this point I decided to give up and leave after such appallingly unfriendly and unhelpful customer service but as I left, I turned back and saw this girl obviously telling her work colleagues about our conversation, which they all then laughed about, I re entered the shop at which point she completely and utterly ignored me and walked off. I then spoke to another young girl (who said she was a manager but I’m not sure) who seemed to know what had happened and completely missed the whole point of my complaint and how terrible this girl’s attitude and behaviour was right from the start of our conversation towards a potential customer. She said she would tell her manager, which if I’m honest, I have my doubts about. She was also unhelpful and unfriendly, nor did she give me any confidence that she would be dealing with this girl’s poor attitude and inability to deal with a customer query in a friendly and helpful way. This girl should either not be dealing with members of the public or should receive some training as she lost our custom today and the whole experience upset me greatly. The fact they didn’t sell mince pies wasn’t the problem (there are much worse things to be worrying about!), but this girl’s poor attitude and rude responses to me was confusing and unnecessary. We will not be returning. Ever.

We popped in to Bury st Edmunds Cornish pastry for a cup å tea and pastry was a rainy day. Young girl served us she told us she working weekend she was really friendly and helpful. We will be back 🙂🌹

I was in Bury St Edmunds doing some Xmas shopping and popped in the Cornish bakery for some lunch. Never been before but was pleasantly surprised. Food was great and friendly service from the waitress. I think her name was Jess?

I was served by a worker named Jess and she was lovely the whole shop is an amazing atmosphere and I just feel at comfort when I enter the bakery.

Came here for the third time and it’s still lovely, I was served by a girl named Jess, who was very kind. Staff are lovely, will come again

This is the 3rd time I purchase large order for a party from them. This last time I spent over £80 on pastries and sausage rolls for a pick up only to find the they threw everything in two paper bag!!! The last two large order I made they presented it well with large boxes and it was such a hit for the party. Hence why I keep coming back. This time the worker was rude when I ask if I can place the pastries in a box and instead of giving me a party platter box, he put it in smaller boxes and again he put it in a paper bag… he also mutter and rolled his eyes as if I’m not the paying customer and me asking for a box goods was a crime. Mind you, I wouldn’t mind paying more for the box and his service if that’s what was needed but nope. Just rude service when I’m a regular customer. So sadly, id be thinking twice going back again for bigger order.

Amazed by the reviews… Second visit here and second time I’ve had bad service. Nice shop but had to wait for order to be taken, then they really rushed like it was a major inconvenience and then the staff run off. Wrong order taken but - too late - they’d run off again. Won’t be back!

Watched them make and bake Cornish pasties. Served fresh and very warm.

I recently visited this lovely bakery. The staff were friendly, and they offered a great variety of food. I particularly enjoyed their mocha, which was very nice.

Easily the best place for a coffee and a small bite to eat in Bury. We’ve visited multiple times and we’re always very impressed. Plenty of room for our pram too. Staff are great, food selection is by far the best in town; far superior to any other coffee shop.

Having been disappointed with the service at Pilgrim’s kitchen we settled for the cornish bakery. Very busy as it was lunchtime, but we managed to get a table for four. Lots of dirty dishes on most tables but they were soon cleared away and the staff seemed to be working well as a team. Food was delicious and hot and atmosphere was chatty and friendly. Would recommend the pasty, very filling.

Coffee is pretty bland and flavourless, could be hotter too. Cashless business which is always a minus.

Only had a hot chocolate. Female staff handling croissants & then putting them into display cabinets - gloves would be appropriate.

Girl with red hair serving coffee and drinks extremely rude. Slammed my coffee on the worktop and left a carton of milk by it and said “anything else” in a curt manner then gave me a stern look. Not impressed!

The food is lovely, although the restaurant is very noisy and the girl who attended us, it looked like she didn't want to be there. She wasn't rude or impolite, but not the usual chatty, smiley face that you see in other places.

Coffee was pretty lit if you ask me; Dad seems to love it more than me - he buys roughly 2 bags per month! 20/10, would buy multiple lattes everyday if I had the funds!

On appearance, it looks lovely with its selection of pastries and pasties. What's served isn't impressive. The pastry looked squashed and obviously been caught in the oven, very sorry looking. The coffee was very watery and flavourless. I left feeling very underwhelmed and wish I'd gone to a generic chain.

Lovely place with a lot to choose from . We were travelling around enjoying the surrounding and the town, saw your place with such tempting display and we could not miss it. We are so grateful for the help given to my somewhat frail husband who had trouble to get from sitting to standing in the cafe today after we had enjoyed coffee and pastries. My husband struggled to stand up and we were so grateful to a member of staff who came over to us and put great strength into lifting my husband to his feet . The young gentleman also considered alternative seating next time we visit the cafe and we will try his suggestion.

A really lovely new coffee shop , all food home made, yes bit pricey but delicious, and now get free coffee on a reward card, always nice and clean , we choose to go there now rather than our usual Costa Coffee. Well worth a visit great place.

Nice place to sit and watch the world go by. Counter service only, which was a bit slow. Food and drink on a par with similar establishments. Main criticism is that they don't take cash - think about your older customers please, @CornishBakery

After 5 there is a discount on baked goods. We took it for a picnic in the park, it was delicious

We paid just over £14 for 2 cloudy lemonades, a small piece of carrot cake and a doughnut (advertised as a bronut). The lemonade appeared to be just syrup with fizzy water and half full glasses. The carrot cake was ok but nothing outstanding and the doughnut was nowhere near the quality compared to the price paid. A tiny portion of filling and the rest just bread. Far too expensive for what you get.

New addition to Bury St Edmunds. Quite spacious and light. Accostics were a little disappointing and loud. Strawberry milkshake actually tasted of Strawberry 🍓. The cloudy lemonade was lovely. We had a cinnamon bun, cornish pudding (like bread pudding), and pain aux raisin. All fresh.

First visit, good selection of cakes, from modest size cinnamon buns to traditional pain aux raison and cornish puddings. Drinks available were fairly varied and custom-made Acoustics were not so good with ambient levels too high, as the soundproofing of the old style department store is sorely lacking. I might avoid on busy days

The best coffee in town by far. All the food is incredible too and baked freshly in store. The staff are so so helpful when I visit on my own with my newborn, bringing my order to the table when I’ve got my hands full and offering water when I’m feeding.
