Having been disappointed with the service at Pilgrim’s kitchen we settled for the cornish bakery. Very busy as it was lunchtime, but we managed to get a table for four. Lots of dirty dishes on most tables but they were soon cleared away and the staff seemed to be working well as a team. Food was delicious and hot and atmosphere was chatty and friendly. Would recommend the pasty, very filling.

Easily the best place for a coffee and a small bite to eat in Bury. We’ve visited multiple times and we’re always very impressed. Plenty of room for our pram too. Staff are great, food selection is by far the best in town; far superior to any other coffee shop.

On appearance, it looks lovely with its selection of pastries and pasties. What's served isn't impressive. The pastry looked squashed and obviously been caught in the oven, very sorry looking. The coffee was very watery and flavourless. I left feeling very underwhelmed and wish I'd gone to a generic chain.

We are so grateful for the help given to my somewhat frail husband who had trouble to get from sitting to standing in the cafe today after we had enjoyed coffee and pastries. My husband struggled to stand up and we were so grateful to a member of staff who came over to us and put great strength into lifting my husband to his feet . The young gentleman also considered alternative seating next time we visit the cafe and we will try his suggestion.

We paid just over £14 for 2 cloudy lemonades, a small piece of carrot cake and a doughnut (advertised as a bronut). The lemonade appeared to be just syrup with fizzy water and half full glasses. The carrot cake was ok but nothing outstanding and the doughnut was nowhere near the quality compared to the price paid. A tiny portion of filling and the rest just bread. Far too expensive for what you get.

New addition to Bury St Edmunds. Quite spacious and light. Accostics were a little disappointing and loud. Strawberry milkshake actually tasted of Strawberry 🍓. The cloudy lemonade was lovely. We had a cinnamon bun, cornish pudding (like bread pudding), and pain aux raisin. All fresh.

First visit, good selection of cakes, from modest size cinnamon buns to traditional pain aux raison and cornish puddings. Drinks available were fairly varied and custom-made Acoustics were not so good with ambient levels too high, as the soundproofing of the old style department store is sorely lacking. I might avoid on busy days

First time visit this afternoon, just after 2:30pm. Judging by other reviews about friendly staff, we must have visited on a bad day. Unsure how things work, we waited in vain for a few minutes but were not acknowledged. Despite nobody ahead of us and a staff member behind the counter appearing to be unoccupied. Earl Grey and pain au raisin for two at £11.70. Both good quality. The really should have blinds on the outer windows to half draw. When the sun is out and the only choice is the window seats, it is like sitting in a greenhouse - not nice. We left early, abandoning any thought of buying another drink or anything. Not we would return.

The cappuccino is ok but expensive. To charge £1.40 for an extra shot is excessive. The chocolate cake was ok. We overheard the discussion between the customer in front of us and a member of staff. It shows how this company sees it's customers. The customers had bought two pasties and drinks. The bill came to almost £20 and he paid. He then asked for a tomato ketchup sachet. He was told that he had to pay extra for that sachet. I don't know what other customers would think if they had heard that but I won't be visiting Cornish Bakery again.

A busy spot brimming with pasties and queues for pasties. While the sweet pastries were good, not great, the pasties rightly stole the show. Of the 4 I tried, the best was the Beef & Chipotle (too many tame fillings within the most robust of jackets in my opinion). Service was confused. I could sense rage within the queue for hot drinks, which couldn't keep up with the pasties being dashed into paper bags. 15 minute wait for a cappuccino. Others in the queue waited a similar amount of time. The Christmas spirit softened the blow, fortunately.

Really disappointed that when I found a large piece of paper towel cooked into my food the staff were apologetic but not concerned about how it might affect someone wanting to eat anything there again. What's it worth to them? The cost of the item apparently, and not a penny more. I would want to make sure anyone that had had that experience left the shop properly compensated and happy. I left hungry and slightly sick. An odd experience.

This photo was taken mere seconds before the packet of brown sauce exploded under the merest hint of pressure from my clumsy hands, coating the pasty, the table, my phone and anybody else who happened to be in a nuclear blast zone range of Bury St Edmunds. On the plus side, the staff were brilliant at helping get me cleaned up, the pasty was delicious (if a little brown saucy) and the hot chocolate very nice indeed. Go on. Treat yourself. Just go easy on the sauce...

We held our wedding celebration here on 1 November 2024. The food and service was fantastic, they worked their socks off to make it a memorable day. We've had so much great feedback from our guests and the empty plates said it all. The room looked fabulous and was perfect and intimate for our party of 29.
