The Manger in St Edmundsbury

We held our wedding celebration here on 1 November 2024. The food and service was fantastic, they worked their socks off to make it a memorable day. We've had so much great feedback from our guests and the empty plates said it all. The room looked fabulous and was perfect and intimate for our party of 29. Highly recommended and great value for money. The Manger has been our go to place over the last 12 months, many thanks John, Carolyn and all the team, we'll see you soon for Sunday lunch

We popped to this pub for dinner as we had passed many times - and are we glad that we found a place that we will come back to time and again. The food is good British fare, excellently cooked by Chef Richard. His steak and kidney pudding had suet pastry that was perfect. My wife’s veggie tart tartin was as tasty as you can get and the desserts - home made like everything else- couldn’t be beaten. Really, really good!

Excellent as always. Generous portions, delicious food, attentive staff and good beer. So pleased to have this reliable pub so close to home.

We visited The Manger two months ago when passing by, had a family lunch! The staff are so friendly and food is delicious the portion size is great! Great selection of drinks, very nice seating outdoors ! Last week we stayed at the nearby perfect church farm b and b and visited the Manger several times. I just wished we lived closer that 210 miles because each visit was sublime and we would love this as our local. The welcome from John and his team was so friendly and we were really looked after. We had several meals and the food was top class, and I’m still dreaming of the pork belly. John suggested booking for Sunday lunch because it got busy. We did and wow no wonder it gets busy. My husband and I both thought it was the best Sunday lunch we had ever eaten. Glorious. Truly a lovely pub, fantastic staff and wonderful food and all round pleasant experience

Excellent food and service for our classic car club's pie and pint night. Cannot fault anything. Steak pie was so tender as was chicken, big tender pieces of chicken breat and all home made. Thank you

Friendly staff (a dog) good food.

Nice small menu and the food was made well. Service was very slow, staff not very knowledgeable and the atmosphere a little quiet. It was a nice stop overall though.

Ridiculously loud music playing well into the night, given me a headache from half a mile away. Turned down a little at about 9.30 pm, but still blaring out gone 11:30 pm. No consideration for neighbours.

Visited on Saturday evening to watch the ever excellent Bootsy 10 piece Soul/Funk Band with friends. The stage, lighting, sound system,outside toilets, table set up, drink ordering system were all top notch and the management and service should be commended for their efforts in offering all the guests that attended a special summer evening. The food tasted good, more choice would be welcomed. Highly recommended venue.

We stopped en route to Diss for a drink, a lovely pub, and a very friendly staff member. We sat in the garden, which is kept very well.

We've been here a couple of times for Sunday roast, food was delicious, very reasonably priced, staff friendly plus it's dog friendly.

Food is very good and the portions are large, prices are commensurate with the quality. Decor and atmosphere pleasant, staff friendly and attentive.

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at the Manger; between us we had roast lamb, roast Pork, apple and berry crumble and a vanilla and almond brulee. All the food was delicious, the service was excellent given how busy they were. We highly recommend the Manger and are sure that you will enjoy it as much as we did.

Shocked by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Decent, classic British pub for drinks but have eaten here 3 times and it's been awful. Bland, stodgy school dinner style food. Especially at what they're charging you. Lovely friendly staff though and they do seem to have lots of fun events.

1st time visiting here. Stopped in for lunch had great burger, the outdoor area is lovely and staff friendly. Ended up staying for 7hours due to great band playing and amazing atmosphere. Will be back soon.

Wait far to long for hour meals nearly 1 Hour not expectable not even busy.

A snap decision to go out and try something further a field. We had been told of a 30 min wait for food, which was not a problem. Food was lovely, nice and busy, we will definitely be returning. Neckoil went down a treat as well

Lamb and beef roast dinner. Seasonal veg, Yorkshire pudding, roasts and cauliflower cheese, all exceptional. Staff, service and everything else was perfection and nothing too much trouble. Made my day with lemon and lime cheesecake. We will go back as soon as we can.

Went for a family meal here this evening, from the moment we walked in we were given a warm welcome from the owner and the dog Wilson!! . The serving staff were very friendly and seemed to enjoy being at work ! We ordered steak and ale pies , fish and chips and a Rogan gosh curry all were really tasty , hot and portion size was big! We managed to fit in a dessert, Again really tasty and certainly not shy on portion size again ! Overall great meals ,will definitely go back again ...well done The Manger!

We’ve just had a really lovely steak meal in wonderful surroundings and all of the staff and owners were extremely friendly and the service was excellent. We have visited before and had sunday roast that time which again was excellent. Really good value too. Looking forward to our next visit! Thank you regards D and J

Lovely old pub. Very dog friendly. Had a bowl of water and a dog treat by the table. Will definitely be back.

Held a family get together following funeral. The back room was fully packed and had seating for around halve of the people.

Fantastic food good wholesome home cooked and fresh, went 4th April at lunchtime party of four, we all left full only had main course but couldn't manage a pud, plates were well stacked, steak and kidney pud amust ,also chicken and leek pie, and belly pork. Thumbs up will definitely be dining again next time we are down from Yorkshire.

Just stopped in for a refershment stop on a long journey. Unfortunately, we missed the food but had a drink but I must say the staff were great and helpful and the pub itself was beautiful a d the surrounding area looked amazing would be a fab summer pub destination

Just had a Sunday roast here, it was not only very good food but also excellent value for money. Pub has a lovely atmosphere and, with outside tables with views across the fields, will be an excellent place to visit when the weather is nice too.

Took forever to book never bothered calling back when left message with name and number , got through in the end . Food poor and lifeless place Avoid at all costs

Table we had booked & been allocated was completely unsuitable as we would have been right in the way of people trying to get past. The young lady I spoke to was very polite and professional went to check with the male working behind. It was his sarcastic face pulling that & muttering that made us choose NOT to stay any longer & leave. I would never return I would like to point out this score is on that experience and not food as we didn't eat any

Me and my wife went to the Manger with the motorcycle club I'm a member of. Service was excellent food was very good. And the timing of bringing out people's meals was also excellent considering there was 40 of us. We did pre order our selection of meals before hand but even so still excellent. I've heard that it's the same chef that's been there years. So he must be doing something write and obviously they look after their chef as well. So much so, That I'm going to book and have my retirement there. As they have a large function room out the back. And looking at the generous portion sizes of meals served. I would highly recommend giving this pub a go.

Super little pub, did a fantastic job of accommodating our birthday party and helped to make everything special for the birthday boy. Staff were very cheerful with nothing too much trouble. Service was prompt, good choice of alcohol, food was nice with good portions.

Absolutely amazing dinner today at The Manger Inn Bradfield Combust . A booking error meant that our friends surprise 60th birthday party looked almost doomed but the whole group of 13 was quickly accommodated in the barn. Great food🤤🤤🤤. Great service.♥️♥️♥️ Could NOT have been better. Hats off 🎩🎩 to the chef for turning out an extra 13 meals when the main pub was already sold out at every sitting. 👏👏👏

Delicious food and greta portion sizes

We were looking for a place to meet family that was about medway between us. We chose The Manger because the name was right for a Christmas lunch. It turned out to be a perfect venue with easy booking, attentive service and excellent food. The Christmas menu was well cooked and great value. Having chosen in advance, we could concentrate of catching up with each other's news rather than having to work through the menu. We will be back!

We had a pre booked Christmas meal here, it was a little disappointing as we have had some lovely meals here before. My sister's Yorkshire was burnt and the roast potatoes were hard to cut. They were very busy and we should have mentioned it at the time but we just put it down to being overstretched. I,m sure our next meal will be fine.

We only had a round of drinks but, for sure, we'll be going back to enjoy more and definitely to dine. I cannot recommend enough this unexpected gem of a country pub... I wish it was my local!

I went there for our churches Christmas party meal, food was really nice and a decent portion. The young ladies that brought us our food were very polite and friendly. Will be taking my wife and family back there to have a Sunday roast at some point

We went here for a family get together...21 of us in total... We were given the large room which was nice warm and comfortable. The staff were terrific, attentive and the service was excellent. The food was wonderful, it came out hot and tasted great. Would recommend and go again.

Tried to find a table for two without pre booking. An they managed to fit us in for an amazing Sunday roast. Such a great atmosphere an friendly staff. Very reasonable price too. Will definitely return an book next time.. very grateful customers 🙏

Had my daughters baby shower today. It was wonderful. Buffet for 17 people was amazing. Lots of choice of sandwiches, quiche, sausages, savoury snacks, scones and more. Catered for vegan, gluten free and vegetarian. The staff let us decorate the area we were seated and were very accommodating. Thank you all for making it very special.

Best homemade chicken and ham pie ,atmosphere had wood smoke in the air you could see and feel ot on your throat. But it would not put me off going again as I hope it's not like that all the time

After driving past many times finally able to get a chance to have lunch. Pleasantly surprised beautiful historic building. Lovely outdoor seating area. Greeted by staff with a lovely smile was given rhe choice of four different tables. Excellent Malbec. Nice choice of sandwiches or baguettes fillings all served with chips & salad. Pleased to see gluten free options available. We were checked on a number of times feeling well taken care of. Will definitely be returning perhaps for an evening meal.

For a new couple that have taken over a pub I used to go regularly, the food was better and service was great they really made us welcome and I fully recommend for drinks and food !!!! Car park and disability access and dog friendly..

Had a few meals at the rushbrooke arms was told that it’s ok!? Not great! Then Stopped off randomly at the manger bradfield combust for some lunch! Highly recommend the food!!! Been there a few times now Very welcoming staff especially Georgie and Lyndsey. Nice atmosphere and a great old style pub. Not been to an event there yet but have been told that when they have ones so well worth a visit!

We had one of the best experiences we've had for a long time in a lovely country pub for a roast dinner. We hadn't booked but they really really accommodating and especially Lindsey who had only just started recently? We couldn't have been more welcome and the roast lunch was amazing. Decided to try the manger a few weeks ago for an impromptu meal out one evening, was so impressed have since been back 3 more times with family/friends and again today as a couple. Cannot fault the food or service. Food is plentiful, tasty and all freshly cooked, service is excellent and friendly. As a vegetarian the menu has a variety of choices. By far my favourite restaurant in the area now!

Absolutely hands down the best Sunday roast I’ve had in years. Staff were brilliant. Home made cauliflower cheese along with everything else homemade was amazing. There really is no point in making it yourself at home when the price including drinks works out less than if you went to a supermarket. Highly recommended and we’re be going back that’s for sure 😋

Great place to have a wonderful pub meal in rural Suffolk. The portions are huge and the quality is top notch. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately we didn't enjoy our food at The Manger. Husband ordered a kebab from the Specials board and I ordered a Sirloin steak from the menu. We waited an hour or more for our food. We don't mind this if the food is good and fresh however it wasn't, disappointing. The Dishes are supposedly dinner size... the kebab arrived with two very small kebabs and a small pitta sliced in half. A very small dollop of salad. Nothing else, no chips or anything. It literally looked like a starter or a kid's lunch. I asked for my Sirloin steak to be cooked medium rare. It arrived medium to well done. It was chewy and bland. Tbh, it tasted more like a rump than a sirloin as there was no flavour you'd expect from a sirloin. For such a long wait for the food and the food to be less than satisfying, we will not be returning here.

We hired the function room for our wedding reception, John and his staff were amazing from first enquiring to saying goodbye on the night. I cannot thank them enough, it was everything we wanted and more. Great hearty food that catered to all our guests, there was something for everyone. The room itself was beautiful, we barely needed any decorations just a couple ‘just married’ balloons and banners. We know the importance of supporting family businesses and it was a pleasure to do so. I’d also like to add that when visiting the ladies room it was lovely to see free sanitary products available for those unexpected moments, I wish more places catered like this. Thank you again for everything, we hope to see you again soon. X

Absolutely perfect venue for my so and daughter and laws wedding reception. We had a private room and we're made to feel at home. The food was amazing and the service was attentive. Could not have wished for better.

We hired out the function room in the manger for our small sized wedding reception and we cannot thank them enough for making our day as special as it was. The food was incredible. The service was amazing and the staff were so accommodating even helping us find taxis at the end of the night. After an evening drive with our car club, The Manger was our final destination. Large car park so perfect for our Classic cars We were a party of 16 plus 3 children and we were made to feel very welcome. The pub was very busy...

Oh what a lovely Pub. Taken there for a pre -Birthday meal. There was a vintage car rally (TR owners club) in the outside area. Some very nice cars. Held regularly i believe ! Period property , timber beams and open fire places. Welcoming staff and comfortable seating. Food to an excellent standard, tasty and very well presented. No rush and attentive staff. Looking forward to returning again.
