Visited the George totally by chance. Menu was predominantly burgers, which we were sceptical about, but when you’re hungry, you take a chance on these things… Both my partner and I were hugely impressed by the burgers we ordered. Definitely up there with some of the more pretentious burger restaurants, but without all the pretentiousness! Lovely staff, great atmosphere, check it out.

I don't review unless the experience is very different to the expectation and I have never before written a bad review, but our experience here was awful, no exaggeration. So I think I should report this as it may help others. Firstly the only acceptable part, the servers were enthusiastic and helpful, they did their best but they are not professional or experienced hospitality staff and at a busy time were out of their depth. The music was too loud indoors to hold a conversation, we asked for the volume to be reduced but nothing happened. Fortunately a table opened up in the garden and we moved there but as soon as we did the bell ringers at the church next door started their practise, not the fault of the restaurant I know, but... The food took an age to arrive, when it did all four speciality hamburgers were burnt, the fixings were not as advertised, no mushrooms or truffle sauce on mine for example. the quality of the meat seemed good, but it was ruined by the cooking. Clearly the chef did not know how to prepare a burger. To sum up: service OK, ambiance ruined by noise, food badly prepared by amateurs. Maybe they just had a bad night, but we still had to pay so I report as it was.

We were a family party of three generations aged between 4 and 84. Our service was welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. In the middle of the holiday heatwave we sat in the beer.garden at the back. The lunch menu was an interesting combination of originality for the more discerning and tasty treats for the younger members. The halloumi burger was the star. Hoping for the opportunity of a return visit.

Stopped off at the George today for some lunch. Very nice looking pun outside and inside with a nice garden area to the rear. Quite a few people in the Garden as the ewather was excellent but the inside looked nice and so I sat inside. Very comfortable chairs (though not all are the same so... ) which is nice as so many places have ones that are ok but not great. Could happily sit there for hours. Staff were lovely and friendly with me and with other customers. Kind of staff you want to be around as a customer. Looked at the menu and was a little dissapointed at first, lots of burgers and burger type stuff, which isnt me, but then it may be great for other people so Im not marking them down but people should check the menu before visiting in case its not your thing either. They had other items as well, including, on Sundays, a Yorkshire pudding wrap. I decided to go for that. And it was a wrap. Beef and veg done up like a weap inside a yorkshire pudding, with a pot of gravy, roast potatoes, bowl of coauliflower cheese. The potatoes skin was hard and difficult to cut but the insides where soft and fluffy and they tasted great. The beef inside the wrap was think and juicy. The whole wrap was really nice and if you dont want to eat it like a wrap, it holds up well to cutting with knife and fork. The cauiflower cheese was superb. Best i've ever had. 9.9 / 10 for the food. Loved the presentation as well. So much better than just plopped on a plate. Not one for taking photos but probably should have done on this occasion. Price was excellent as well. If this was my local I would be very happy indeed, but sadly, it isnt. However, it is close enough that I will be back, need more of that yummy cauliflower cheese.

Took my partner for his birthday lunch here, one of our favourite places to celebrate/ I had a G &T [5.50] and my partner enjoyed two large glasses of House Sauv Blanc [13.60]. We enjoyed two large portions of pork scratchings [3.00] and I had the 'dish of the day' - Whole Plaice served with some delicious accompaniments [16.75] and my partner enjoyed his Duck breast [21.00] with a side order of chips [3.50]. We finished with two Panna cotta [14.00]. Our delightful waiter also realised we were celebrating a birthday and brought courtesy of the chef/owner, a delicious chocolate brownie with ice cream for my partner! Finally we drank a cappuccino and a flat white [5.00]. Total bill was £82.35 + tip. Another delicious lunch at a very agreeable price too.

Cod for main was bland to be honest, nothing on the dessert menu appealed. Waitresses looked as though they would like to be anywhere but there. An alarming amount of flies buzzing around us, and it was so hot, not the restaurant’s fault I know, but still off putting. A lovely relaxed place to have a meal. I’ve been here for lunch on several occasions and always enjoyed it. Staff are cheerful and service is good. Unfortunately on my most recent visit they had changed the menu. It’s never been brilliant for vegetarians but today the options were tart tatin on the a la carte menu and (big yawn) risotto on the cheaper lunch menu Risotto - unimaginative and easy to make appears so often as the veggie option so I chose the tart tatin. It consisted of thick soggy pastry and a heap of caramelised onions. There were a few mushrooms and some salty spinach underneath. The dish was quite greasy and at £14.50 it was hugely over—priced. Lemon posset to follow was delicious, however. Over all I’ve rated The George 3* but my main course today was worth only one star.

It was cooked beautifully so a big thank you to the chef for creating something on the spot.

Starting with the good, the flat iron steak was perfectly cooked and the hake fillet blackboard special also, so the chef knows what’s to be done. We were left unimpressed by the service. We had booked and on arrival taken to table with an A3 sized sheet and two smaller pieces of paper arranged for us with no explanation of what they were. Turned out to be a large drinks menu, a set menu and a main menu. We sat by the blackboard so could see the specials. That was the arrival, some minutes later another server placed a bottle of water on table. Ten minutes later the drinks order was taken and after what seemed a long time the drinks arrived with another bottle of water. Other diners had bread rolls and I saw ours do a tour of the restaurant before the server found out that the rolls she was carrying should come to our table. Food arrived with another server who asked if we wanted a second drink which we did but never got before we finished our meal. We didn’t bother with a dessert as four loud staggering drunks arrived and were seated next to us, so we left. We got a “sorry “ for the lack of second drinks when paying at the bar and were asked to identify the one who took the order but we had had so many at our table it was hard to say. A disappointing evening.

For the last six years The George has been my "go to" restaurant for a really special dining experience, not just because the food is exceptionally good but also because the service and atmosphere contributed to the whole evening. Sadly things have changed, although the food is still exceptional the atmosphere has become more of a drinking pub and has lost its restaurant credentials. We didn't book and were accommodated with a smile. The area of the bar we were in was a little noisier than usual due to an extractor fan but otherwise the ambience was good. The food was very good indeed, so much so that we went back for lunch the next day. Overall reasonably priced gastro pub. Also very good in identifying gluten free dishes on the menu.

Food very good although selection is limited. We stayed the night and that is why this establishment is only getting a 3 out of 5 rating. It's in a very tired state with the smallest TV in the world in our room! The staff were great although the place didn't unlock the restaurant for breakfast until 8.30! The garden furniture was tatty and no grass. Very friendly towards dogs and a village green opposite. Be careful before going on walks as the route is not clear and if you are forced like we were the roads are busy and the traffic is fast with no pavements. Very comfortable bed and therefore a good nights sleep.

Quaint old pub trying to be upmarket. A bit over priced for what it is, nice beer to be fair. Busy so guess customers like it.

A great experience for an Anglo/Australian wedding. Parents and relatives brought over from Australia. From the moment of arrival through to the end the professionalism of the host and staff was excellent. All went well, the food and service was exceptional.

We took up one of the offers and we found the dining area to be spotlessly clean, good quality table ware and a good table. We had two courses that were perfectly cooked and the retired to the garden at the rear.

We came here for a Sunday roast, and were not disappointed. The food is fresh and cooked very well, I had the pork and my husband had the beef. We weren’t huge fans of the sides (cauliflower cheese and red cabbage) but I am sure plenty of others would be. The chocolate brownie was also fab. There are plenty of places locally where you can go for a roast and pay less, but the quality definitely isn’t the same.

Despite not initially having a free table after we had turned up late on in lunch service, the staff were extremely attentive. The moment there was space we were seated and we enjoyed a delicious meal in wonderful surroundings.

Visited this evening after being recommended. The service from the outset was abysmal. We were shown to the bar to wait for our table and then just left there!! The one poor girl behind the bar was run ragged and after waiting about 15 minutes we had to ask if we could have a drink. The waitress apologised and then we were served. Eventually we were shown to our table and then again just left!! After a long wait we had to ask for a menu! Our food when served was delicious. The two chefs in the kitchen were rushed off their feet. Enjoyed our main courses. Dessert was a berry pavlova which was the size of an egg cup. Very nice but certainly a laughable portion. Overall very disappointed with the whole experience. The waitresses seemed to serve the chosen few. Obviously haven’t got the staff to serve all the customers. With so many pubs in surrounding areas we are spoilt for choice so won’t be visiting here again.

My youngest son took me and my partner out for a Mother's Day lunch yesterday. We booked a late table for 2pm and when we arrived, the place was packed. We were quickly shown to our favourite table in the window whilst we perused the menu and 'specials' board. I had a glass of Prosecco [£5] and my partner had 3 x175ml glasses of house Sauv Blanc [£15.45] and my son a Frobishers [£2.50]. As usual, we were served with 4 delicious warm rolls and butter. I then chose the tiger prawns as a starter and thought they would have been in the shell but sadly they weren't, accompanied by a nice dip and salad leaves [£7.00]. My partner and his girlfriend both chose the cod starters [£14.00] and my partner the asparagus [£7.00]. My main was the Seabass on a bed of Tagliatelle, [£16.50] my son had the fillet of beef [£25.95], his girlfriend the Roast Pork [£12.50] and my partner the Roast Beef [£14.95]. I rather felt that the portions were somewhat smaller than what we enjoy for a normal lunch there. I had a trio of Strawberry & Chocolate ice cream and a scoop of Blackcurrent sorbet [£4.50]. My son finished with an Americano [£2.20] and my partner a Cappuccino [£2.45]. Total bill was £129.10 + tip.

I can't tell you how good this place is! Half dozen rooms, we took a couple - room at the front was pick of the two, spacious, not too tarted up, okay the radiator in the bathroom was on full throughout, no heat control, so more like a rainforest (didn't effect bedroom), and maybe a re-think of the furnishings to get rid of the Ikea horrors but But BUT this place is fantastic value and lashing out the cash could spoil the character and kill off a modestly price gem.

NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED :-( The Plough at Rede is one of Suffolks best kept secrets. A thatched pub with oak beams, an open fire, all tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Rede. Stunning location, fabulous atmosphere with a warm welcome and the best food for miles around. Brian and Joyce have been running the Plough for over 30 years with customers returning time and time again. Ide give 100 stars if I could.
