We arrived on Saturday, 6th July, around 10:30/11am. The queue was long as expected. It was raining outside, and we saw a group of people queuing under cover, so we joined, asking if this was the correct queue, and they confirmed it was. It wasn't until we got closer to the front that we saw a sign indicating we needed to see the person inside for seating. Overall, we waited nearly 50 minutes for a table for two. The queuing system was quite bizarre, and it would have been helpful to have a sign at the beginning of the queue indicating the need to speak to someone inside for a table. We weren’t the only ones confused. At no point did any staff member come out to clarify the process, but they did seem to usher in people behind us, and then we wondered what was going on. In retrospect, I'm not sure why we waited so long, but perhaps hunger made us persevere. While the coffee was lovely, we noticed several empty tables inside which would have seated two, as you can't book and a lack of urgency from the staff member checking in. My husband noted that his sausages were cold. When we paid, nobody asked about our experience, which felt like a missed opportunity for feedback. The queuing system needs significant improvement, particularly with better signage or staff guidance. The service lacked attentiveness. I won't be rushing back.

The food served here has gone progressively downhill. We went on Saturday morning and both had the Folk fry up. Service was slow, the food was beige and they forgot to include the bacon. The coffee was like bovril and please, do not put garlic mushrooms on a full English! And why no tomatoes? Poor.

When it said FRY UP , it wasn't kidding , bacon hard , fried eggs solid , tiny pot of butter put next to hot food on plate and was completely melted ! Oil slick on plate , bit like Greasy Joe's old transport cafes that used to be . Then ordered cake , it never arrived ! Plus points , all staff were lovely , and dog made very welcome and offered water and treats . Coffee very good .

Had a really frustrating lunch at Folk. We arrived to a 30-minute wait (despite their website saying you can expect a wait up to 15 minutes), and were told we couldn't wait inside. They expected us to wait outside in the cold under a small roof or sit in our car while it was pouring rain. We tried to explain that we had a baby with us and a 92-year-old grandma who needed to sit, but the staff and even the owner were really rude and stuck to their ‘company policy.’ We stayed because we were so hungry, but honestly, I wish we hadn't and definitely won’t be returning. To top it off, the food was rubbish too. I had sweet corn fritters that were more deep-friend batter, with a ‘salsa’ consisting of just chopped up tomato. I think I could have made it better myself. Not a pleasant experience at all! Obviously the expansion has made folk go downhill in terms of quality and customer service. Would not recommend.

The atmosphere is great with good music and very laid back. Staff were friendly and cheerful and the food was so lovely and not just on our table. Looking around I was beginning to get food envy! Hubby had a sausage sandwich. He said the sausage was good quality. I had garlic mushrooms in a creamy Dijon sauce on toasted sourdough. Such a large quantity it became my main meal of the day. You cannot book and have to queue but well worth the wait. You can also go in there with your pooch

This place is lovely and we have been regulars throughout the year including during the pandemic when they had the drive through.Absolutely brilliant coffee and quality food.Just noticed ,though, that of late your cake portions have significantly dwindled. Ordered the pear and rose cake , which was really nice, but was slightly underwhelmed by the portion size, given it is quite pricey for a slice. Visited for first time today as really looking forward to seeing how the farm had changed, as I spent my whole childhood there. My parents and I had to wait 10 min to be seated as very busy, which was fine, the staff being really friendly and helpful as my father in a wheel chair, we had a table just under a speaker which made it hard to talk as music a little loud. We had a lovely lunch, and coffee was fantastic. Again staff lovely when we needed to pay, bring card machine to table and answering questions we had. When we left to go to the car, my parents had parked in the disabled parking space, it was pouring with rain, a lovely man in a maintenance buggy offered, and helped us put the wheel chair in the car, which was very kind.

We said we are willing to wait whilst chatting and not in a rush but got a table in about 15 mins which was great! We had a lovely waitress serve us, blonde girl and very bubbly who recommend the avo on toast. OMG it was delicious and the tastes just went so well together. My friend had the fry up and really enjoyed it too, we also had a chai latte each which was like drinking Christmas out of a mug(very warming). The cafe was really busy as always and the staff had it completely under control so hats off to you all and the chefs. Thank you for a great experience, just what I needed.Worth every penny.

I’ve visited the fabulous Folk Cafe several times over the holidays with my two daughters enjoying breakfast, lunch and even the Friday sundowners session. Every visit has been amazing with super-friendly service staff and top quality meals that can’t be faulted. I strongly recommend the bacon, hallloumi and chilli jam sandwich - yummy! The coffee is from a local roastery, Butterworths, and I’ve even been converted to drinking it at home now. It is true that sometimes you have to queue for a table but not normally too long and you’re kept updated on expected timing by the friendly staff. I’m amazed that the kitchen team can keep up with the number of table covers and takeaways and still deliver great presentation in a timely manner. The tables are well distanced, there’s good options both inside and outside and a cleverly thought through shop/takeaway queuing system. I haven’t found a place better in a Bury St Edmunds and would strongly recommend a visit.

I am so surprised to read the previous two reviews complaining about the food at Folk Cafe.I have never had a bad meal or cold coffee here, in fact their cappuccino, in my opinion, is the best in Bury St Edmunds. The staff are wonderful and so friendly and the menu has a great selection catering to all tastes. If you have to wait there are 2 metre spaces marked out, hand sanitiser is available on entry and exit. The tables are spaced out so you are not on top of anyone else. Really can 't recommend the Folk Cafe highly enough.

We arrived at a busy Folk Cafe to be greeted by a queue-Care of the government subsidy. The place was heaving and we were shown to our table by a friendly waitress without any mask/or visor. The table was very close to another elevated table which was quickly populated by a family of 12 and we made it clear they should at least try and distance. We ordered our food and drinks. The hot drinks arrived luke warm and they were changed on request. The food arrived and oh dear! Three of the meals were cold and the 4th(poached eggs) was sent back under cooked,We were so disappointed as previous visits were OK. We complained and the manageress was apologetic and did not charge for the food. My conclusion was that the front of house staff are charming but the behind the scenes kitchen management is poor.If a kitchen cannot serve quality when all covers are taken then remove some tables which would help with the social distancing. I will be charitable and say despite the really positive influence of the Chancellors meal subsidy it has a downside when venues cannot handle an upsurge in demand. We all see it on TV food programmes-nothing should leave the kitchen if it is not meeting their minimum quality standards!

We managed to get a table inside as the whole place was heaving (social distancing observed). We were happy with the menu choices but the 11 yr old wasn't so keen, she didn't feel there was enough options for her. The staff did well to accommodate her. Service was pretty slow at lunch but that was down to the volume of customers, don't come here if you're in a hurry. It is a place you can relax in & enjoy the surroundings. We will be keen to return. Menu has been revamped. Has some of the old favourites but many things replaced with too many vegan options. Have to pay extra for cheese so meals become quite pricey. Only have one size of coffee now which was the smallest coffee I’d ever had at £2.95. Shame as it has a nice vibe but has become too trendy therefore too expensive for what it is. I feel it’s a shame when businesses become popular and instead of rewarding loyal customers with great value they put prices up and then decrease the quantity of goods. There used to be an option for small or large coffee-now you can have an extra small 200 ml takeaway coffee for almost 3 pounds.

Another table became free so no need to make unhappy customers more unhappy. Many tables with only one person with work spread out clearly not wanting others to share. A couple of weeks ago, we were amongst a party of about 35 people who visited this lovely place for a meal. It was on a Saturday Evening when it is not usually open to the public but this event was specially arranged for us. We started with Anti Pasti which was shared from dishes in the centre of the table. My main course was Beef and Barley Bean Casserole and my wife had Lentil and Aubergine Bake. We then both had Chocolate Torte. Unfortunately we had been advised that, although the venue had applied for an alcohol licence, it would not be issued in time for this event but if required we could take our own. The staff worked hard and it was amazing that they were able to cater for so many all at the same time, They were welcoming, efficient, and friendly. The venue is en route from our home to one of our favourite holiday haunts so we will break a journey and pay a visit.

I visited mid-week around 11.15 and it was packed! I was by myself and the only available table was the large one with benches to fit 6+ people. However, as the breakfast menu came to a close more tables opened up and I moved to a smaller one (though this was still a table for 4). There was a high breakfast type bench for smaller parties or individuals to use rather than the larger tables. However I have mobility issues and would not feel comfortable perking on a high stool. This aside, the interior design is quirky and very stylish. Creating a lovely, cosy atmosphere. I ordered a flat white and a croissant initially - and this was hands-down the most delicious croissant I had ever experienced. Felt like such an indulgent treat. Later on I also ordered lunch of coronation chicken sandwich on sour dough bread. Absolutely delicious. All home-made and very generously filled. I would say that the prices reflect the quality of the food so I was more than happy to pay. The cafe was constantly busy so I felt that I could not stay as long as I had planned to. I was hoping to have found a new study place for when I wanted a cosy change of scenery. But I did feel very aware that I was a single person on a table for four - though I would have been happy to share my space. As I left I enquired about whether there were any times which tended to be more quiet - so on my next visit I hope to stay a bit longer and have a late lunch and write some of my PhD thesis.Lovely little cafe - I am sure I will be a frequent visitor as it is only a couple of miles drive for me. It also has ample parking either next to the cafe itself or more parking in the main business park car park. There was also a disabled space literally outside the cafe which was perfect for me and others with a blue badge. Looking forward to my next visit!

Cannot honestly say I tasted the honey mustard. Lovely ham in nice quantity and nice thick slices of Brie. You can choose any of the sandwiches options as toastier or salad or jacket potato option. We all had pots of tea which was loose leaf and at under £3 per pot you get free refill. Fantastic serviceWe also had cake which was delicious. I had the softest brownie. It was firm on the outside and gooey in the centre The only table we could secure, and we arrived at 12.30, was the high table. My personal opinion is they should remove this and replace it with two tables. No one chose this seating area when there was an alternative available and neither would we have. This is a relatively new cafe located in a most unlikely place - a small rural business park on the edge of Bury St Edmunds. It's got a great vibe - big comfy, chunky furniture, sofas in the corner, bench seating along the windows, and tables with benches inside and outside. On a day when the weather isn't good enough to sit outside I can imagine that it could get quite busy inside, but I've been several times now, and each time managed to find the seating we wanted. The outside area, which is very well maintained but would benefit from a bit of landscaping, has picnic style benches and lots of ride on toys for children - ideal if you're with young children. The inside space is a bit more cramped, especially if you happen to have a push chair or a restless child, but the decor is beautiful and very well thought through. The service is excellent - we've never been kept waiting long for an order and both the food and the coffee are great. The menu is a fairly typical sandwich and jacket potato fare; the bread is excellent and the sandwiches are substantial and reasonably varied. (Haven't tried the jacket potatoes)For anyone interested, they do have non dairy options, they also serve de-caf coffee and each time I've been there has been at least one vegan cake option. For me, it ticks all the coffee shop boxes - comfy furniture, free wi-fi, somewhere I would feel comfortable sitting by myself with a good book, and of course, great coffee. I will definitely be returning as often as I can!

My wife and I had the full fry-up for breakfast which we enjoyed - especially as it came with Wooster’s sourdough toast. The bacon and sausage were good. The beans had a long hair in them which I quietly pointed out to a member of staff who removed it from my plate and apologised saying ‘that’s not very nice’. It would have been a pleasing gesture to either offer to replace the meal or refund the cost or even offer another cup of coffee. The place is pleasantly decorated with a good atmosphere. We left because there were people who needed a table but we had been there a while. We will definitely go back but hope there are no further follicles as additives!

Met a friend and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Excellent quality of food. Had the scotch eggs and slice of Victoria sponge, delicious. There is a big car park just a stones throw away so reviews about lack of parking not quite accurate. Loved that dogs are welcome makes everyone feel valued. Staff all very friendly and efficient. Spotlessly clean and good facilities for wheelchair users. Highly recommend.

Visited for an early lunch with a friend today. It was our first visit but we received a very warm welcome. Our delicious lunch was brought out swiftly but we were not made to feel that we had to vacate our seats despite it being very busy. Certainly well worth another visit - hopefully on a sunny day so that we can sit outside

Went there with a friend for an early lunch. Food was very nice and setting beautiful. The furniture is nice but not suitable for venue as very few people can get a table and obviously people will sit and chat with a coffee. The tables are all at least 4 people and way too big for the small room. There are benches , but a lot of people don’t like to perch. I don’t think it was planned well or they didn’t think they’d be busy , which is a shame. There are some tables outside which will help in nice weather. From what I could see there was very little parking allocated to the cafe which again is poor. We felt once we had eaten we needed to leave and back at the car there were people waiting to jump straight in the space practically before we had even got out Food fabulous but layout needs to be re-thought.

We arrived at peak time but easy to park. Plenty of tables outside although little shade so we decided to eat inside.Beautiful decor and a variety of seating areas. A huge range of customers and although busy we were greeted warmly and our table was cleared very quickly with the owner running out to return sunglasses left on the table by the previous customers. Tea was loose leaf and in lovely tea pots. I had the BEST fish finger sandwich ever ( sorry Mum!) and my partner had an equally delicious sandwich. All on Wooster’s bread which is great.Large portions and very fresh ingredientsAs I watched the staff and customers - they all seemed very happy - the sign of a good place to eat! The loo was super chic too!Well done and will definitely return ( need to sample that carrot cake!) In summary a great place, friendly staff and delicious food

This is a new place that has popped up at fornham business court and is only open Monday to Friday. Inside the barn has been renovated nicely to give a relaxed feel. When I visited it was fairly full and being just after lunch I was really disappointed they’d run out of most of their cakes! Unfortunately they only have one gluten free option which they had sold out of so the only other option was soup. Also lots of their cakes contained nuts which was a shame. Would be great if they firstly didn’t sell out of cake and then the cake they did have catered to a few more allergies and intolerances.

We were treated to a visit here by our daughter just after 9.15am. Easy parking. It was really busy with a great range of clientele. We managed to get the last table.Absolutely great coffee, great breakfast bun (& quite unusual) & finally great courteous service.I'm being very picky here, but more low level seating would be good.Looking forward to returning soon.

Absolutely love this place. Have been for business meets, with my wife and with friends and it is the best place I’ve been to outside of London. Food is great (try the porridge), coffee is perfect and the atmosphere vibrant. Love the high tables and the encouragement to share tables, which like bigger cities is very normal! Service is exceptional and very attentive. Well done all and keep it up. :)

Really nice cafe but very busy so we need to be there early to get a table. I have read other comments and would just say it would be unreasonable to expect a small country cafe to accommodate eight buggies etc where in Bury would? We find the staff more than accommodating. We love it but you to expand!!

We were visiting some friends in the area and popped into Folk Cafe for a coffee. Ended up sampling the Scotch Eggs which were amazing. We visit a lot of independent cafes (it’s kind of our hobby!) and were very impressed by the space. Nice location, plenty of parking, good vibe to the cafe, quality products. Great to see a new successful venture. Good luck for the future!

Visited Friday for lunch. Smashing cafe off-the-beaten-track. Food was very good with some choice for vegetarians. Very busy which is a good sign. Staff pleasant and helpful.A new venture and exciting for all of us who like good food. Just a few observations and I know its difficult to please everyone. Its a little difficult to find a table which we did not have to share, with others. Obviously you want to maximise covers with large tables. Also had lunch but because it was busy felt pressured by having to leave a little sooner which spoilt things just a little. Teething problems maybe?

We popped in for late lunch and it was still busy with a really nice atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff. The sandwiches were delicious, the granary bread the best I've had. A really nice setting, with outside space which will be lovely in the summer months. Oh and they are dog friendly! It's great that it is attracting customers from outside the business park - good luck for the coming year! Looking forward to the next visit!

We had seen signs for Folk Cafe but until we made a conscious effort to follow them today we did not know exactly where it was located. I am so pleased we persevered. It had crossed my mind before we got there that it might have catered only for folk singing vegans due to the name.In fact the menu is quite varied with a range of meat and meat free dishes, and I saw at least one gluten free cake. The roasted tomato and lentil soup looked delicious, there was a hot meal of the day, all day breakfasts as well as scones and sandwiches. We both opted for sandwiches, with a choice of brown or white bread. To describe the bread we had as brown is a bit like calling a diamond a piece of carbon! It was substantial, tasty, well baked and packed with various seeds. The fillings were plentiful, and the accompanying bowls of root vegetable crisps were delicious. My Flat White coffee was hot and full of flavour without being too milky or bitter. My husband’s tea was made with a good amount of leaves and again was a good flavour. We will definitely be back.

This is a new cafe established to serve the Fornham Business Court, but has quickly become popular with the wider community. It is easy to see why. Ali and her team have got it right from day one. They serve a limited but delicious range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and soups using the best local produce. There is also a fantastic range of delicious cake. The ambience is relaxed and the staff friendly. A great cafe on the outskirts of Bury St. Edmunds

A modern space designed for business workers, socialisers or families alike. Staff were very friendly and both food and drinks were quick to get to the table. Although we spent a while trying to find Folk Cafe, would definitely visit again now we know the location!

Living locally I have visited a few times for coffee and/or lunch. Decor is lovely and a nice buzzy feel about it. Food is attractively presented and tasty although every time I have been the coffee has never been hot, so a minus for that. This is a very popular place and does get very busy. My reason for not giving it a 5 star is because on each time I have visited there have been individuals sitting at tables for 4 spending considerable time working on laptops whilst a queue forms for available tables. I do find this very inconsiderate when there are high stools and bench tables for this purpose. Perhaps management could resolve this issue.

We booked a table for today for lunch for 8 people. When we got there we found we were put on a high bench table which was slightly awkward as we all had our babies with us. We asked if we could get another table instead and were told no. (With no apology) So I ordered food and attempted to sit at the high table, whilst the others in our group tried to settle. We were then told that we would have to move all the baby carriers and bags as they were blocking the access to the disabled toilet. The staffs attitude to us was completely unacceptable. She did not apologise or offer an alternative suggestion. What did she expect us to do with our baby carriers? There was no were else to put our things. ( not all of us had carriers as some babies are old enough to carry in arms). Whatever the situation, we were made to feel really unwelcome so we decided to leave. I got a refund on the food I’d ordered as the others didn’t feel like staying after such a horrible attitude from the staff ( owner I think). Such a shame as it looked so promising. I think they just prefer the silver dollar by the looks of it. Afterwards I was thinking what on Earth would they do if a group of wheelchair users came in for lunch? Would they be as uninviting to them as they were to us? And should I have actually booked a table for 16 rather than 8? When I asked to cancel my order, and told the staff person how uncomfortable she had made us feel, she said that it was a new business so there would be teething problems. But she offered no apology, or an alternative seating offer for us, she really needs to ‘think on her feet’ and allow for such situations. All in all a very disappointing experience, just don’t visit this cafe unless you are a single person without a bag or disability, they can’t cope.

Food review on hold until kitchen open, but this is a traditional Grade II listed English pub - sorry, does mean watch your head. Very rude landlord not at all sympathetic to an autistic young adult whom had never been in a pub before wasn’t sure what he was doing, was told to leave as he didn’t speak to the landlord on entry and didn’t order a drink straight away he was finding his bearings as being autistic was in a very unfirmiliar atmosphere
