The pub is a great place the staff are lovely the landlord is great and goes over and above his role for the customer ...the food is OK there is a lovely outside area that has a covered area with heaters and a lovely garden for getting together with friends and family we often have family gatherings in large party's and we are always made welcome

Two meals served promptly and we're tasty and value for money

Came here for a funeral wake, the staff were fantastic, very accommodating. Food spectacular. Overall, apart from the circumstances for our visit, it really was a lovely place to visit and eat. Couldn't fault. 5*

The service and greeting was excellent. The good choices wete very good. The food its self was presented well and extremely tasty.

Came for Sunday lunch. 2 visits to the table from staff as items unavailable, delay on food. Items arrived at table 10 minutes apart. Food was poor quality, chewy beef and carrots that had the texture of a rock. Trying to think of a positive, there wasn’t one 🙈

Have visited a couple of times whilst away with work. Staff are friendly and welcoming..food is more than you'd expect for a pub, being reasonably priced, above average portion size and brilliant quality. Didn't have to wait too long for food which was brilliant considering we were a table of 8.

Excellent experience at Tollgate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious, service was quick and the sticky toffee pudding was the best we've ever had, even people at nearby tables were commenting on how good it looked. I definitely recommend this pub.

We booked 9 of us to attend Xmas dinner here. At a very reasonable price we expected it to be average. But I can honestly say it was definitely above my expectations. The food was quick to come out, and portion sizes were amazing. Food was hot, and plenty of meat which my dad was thoroughly impressed about. We had 3 small children with us, and was anxious about it being so busy , but I loved the way it was literally one table per booking so didn’t feel rushed to leave as the table didn’t need to be re-made for other customers- our table was ours for the whole afternoon. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble; and I’d definitely recommend to others and planning on returning again for another Xmas dinner. Thankyou all!

We booked for a work Christmas meal for 8 and all I can say is wow, hospitality and the food was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was superb A big well done to all members of staff for their hard work We had a fab evening

Went here at night without a booking. Was Served by a lovely lady called Maisie, ordered beef and sticky toffee pudding which were both delicious. Overall I would recommend, wasn’t one thing to Complain about.

Went out with a mate for a nice meal and it was more then perfect, you are welcomed by the staff as you walk in and the food comes in good time and tastes amazing.

Went out with a group of people for pre-booked meals. Several of the deserts were unavailable despite being pre-ordered. My prawn salad was a lettuce leaf, dollop of mayonnaise and 5 prawns. The mushroom wellington had been microwaved so it was soggy and hard, there were no mushrooms in evidence and the sauce was horrible. The only good thing about the meal was the roast potatoes.

Early evening meal before a visit to the cinema. Very busy with people wanting to eat, quite a few 'oldies'. Unfortunately front of house only two on duty including manager(ess). one young man collecting and cleaning. Head office cost cutting!

Five of us (in our 70s and 80s) meet here for lunch about once a month. We are always happy with the service and food. We had the Christmas special this week and it was delicious.

A lively pub. The standard pub food menu. Nothing special but perfectly adequate, well presented and attentive staff.

Decent food and staff are always friendly and welcoming. The only problem we have is the last couple of occasions, we get told its table service but end up ordering at the bar as the waiting staff don't come to our table. Last time, we had a table of 6 and I personally took everyone's orders and ordered it at the bar because nobody came. The staff need to make it clear as it was very mix messages and can be annoying. I don't know if they were short staffed? But either way just make it clear!

Worst meal I've ever had. The lettuce on the prawn starter was browning. The prawns still had half their shells on. The vegetables for the main were disgusting. Frozen potatoes, very dry. Frozen sprouts hard in the middle and overcooked on the outside. Cauliflower had seen better days. The salmon overcooked and dry. Thankgoodness we neever had a dessert. Staff were excellent.

A Christmas party of 10 this Wednesday. Great food beautifully cooked and presented. Service very efficient and friendly. Altogether a very positive experience. Well done! ✅

We visited Wednesday lunchtime for a quick lunch whilst in the area. The pub was really busy and staff were obviously under pressure but we were able to get a table. We ordered the senior citizen lunch option, 2 courses for £7.99 which was recommended by another customer standing next to me at the bar. 2 fish and chips were brought to the table with a smile by Maisie in reasonable time, bearing in mind the number of Christmas lunch parties and how busy they were. Maisie and Kim were working quickly around the tables but were able to make diners feel welcome and valued. Our very adequate portion of fish and chips arrived within about 15 minutes, well cooked and well presented, fish was lovely and enough chips for us. We also had a dessert and left completely full after a pleasant hour or so, a sociable and jolly interlude to our day.

I wasn't over impressed with the food, but it's a nice pub with a comfortable atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive.

This is a really cold pub no heating ask the lady behind the bar and she said it's always like this !! No wonder Iguy had his coat scarf and hat on when we walked in .

We had a table booked for 10 people for my mums 80th birthday. The service was excellent and the young lady Josie went above and beyond to make it a special night. The food all came out together and was piping hot, delicious and tasty. Thank you again for a wonderful evening.

Popped into the Tollgate to grab myself an ice cold drink as let's face it, it's not the same grabbing a bottle from the local shop fridge! Tollgate did not disappoint....look at the condensation on that glass! Icy cold, super fizzy diet coke on tap. Martin and the staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the ambience of the whole pub is amazing. Will definitely come back with family and friends for food :D

Great atmosphere, friendly pub. Unfortunately the plates were baking hot but the food on it was ice cold. Which only suggests that the food had been cooked well in advance of ordering.

I was staying in a hotel close by. Its food selection was not good. Decided to go to the Tollgate. Reviews were good so thought it would be better than average Green King's. garlic bread starter was larger and tasted like it had been warmed in a microwave. The mixed grill was very average.

We went here for family meal and been disappointed. We wait for our meal so long and when it's arrived my ordered sirloin stake was so dry and cooked not I like it. Send it back to the kitchen. My husband and daughter finished them meals till I wait for replacement. Other thing was lack of communication between staff. At the bar we ordered meal for our daughter + desert and desert didn't arrived as waitress sayed we don't have it (after we wait about 30 minutes).

Me and my two friends were served by Leigh who made us laugh and made us feel welcome at our visit to the tollgate. We were sat in the patio outside area and the atmosphere and the vibe of the premises was positive and happy. The bar staff were very helpful with recommending gin flavours and other food related options. The waiting time for our food was brilliant, no issues or delays and the food itself was delicious, no complaints! We are definitely coming here again on future meals out!

Great Green King family pub with a good size garden and a welcoming team to host your visit.

Can’t comment too much on the pub itself as only had a drink. The outside beer garden is really well done. Loads of tables and good atmosphere on a sunny afternoon or warm evening. Prices of drink seemed reasonable.

My husband, our poodle Lola and I come every week for lunch because the good is great, good value for money and the staff are the best.

A Greeneking pub but not great, we decided to ear here whilst in the area visiting our son and the other greenekings were busy, I can see why, the table numbers are written on the limited menu holders in a dark colour so we couldn't see it and it wasn't pointed out to us, I had a blue light card but was unable to get the app code up due to poor Internet, they wouldnt accept the physical card and would usually have a bar code behind the till, these didn't, the roast was all overcooked and beef full of hard fat, Yorkshire pudding black in places and disintegrated when I tried to cut it, the strawberry Eaton mess had a very Sharpe mixed berry compote in it which was not edible, on top of that the lights are so low my son smacked his head off one, considering bury is the home of greeneking perhaps management should leave there offices and sort this place out, at £65 for a two course meal was very expensive and very disappointing

i took my family to celebrate my birthday and we had a great lunch and exellent service throughout. i will certainly be going again.

it was OK food was good but if you get the wrong food thay just say sorry and when you pay your bill and thay make a mistake thay ring you up to tell you even when you have paid it but I would go back it was a lovely day whether thay would have me back after my review

Beef Bourginon and a pint of Abbott £20.60. Food was ok, if a little pricey, but did not come with crispy onions as advertised. Meat was tender, and a good chunk!

I took my mum there today for lunch. As always Kim and Martin were fab! Service, food, attention to detail was amazing! Would highly recommend! !
