Spent the evening here for my nans birthday. Staff were lovely especially maisie. Always very welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend.

Just stopped in for a drink on a hot day and found a lovely pub with great beer garden. Nice selection of drinks and served with a friendly smile.

Maisie was extremely helpful and accommodating to our requests , food was better than expected will be back soon for another delightful experience , bar staff fabulous too , happy house very enjoyable and the price meal deal was too good to be true give how good the quality of the food was! Great garden. Friendly atmosphere. Would have been nice to have been offered sauces with dinner as no mustard on table. Staff very friendly and polite. They remember you in your next visit so you feel youre with friends.

Great meal alongside friendly and welcoming staff. Martin the manager came over to check everything was fine with our visit and made us feel very comfortable. Really satisfied with our lunch and the pub ultimately is great venue to be enjoyed by all. Will definitely be returning.

Great atmosphere, friendly pub. Unfortunately the plates were baking hot but the food on it was ice cold. Which only suggests that the food had been cooked well in advance of ordering.

Visited in August for a friends 80th birthday. Service was superb. The whole team were wonderful. Maisie was an absolute star 🌟

I was staying in a hotel close by. Its food selection was not good. Decided to go to the Tollgate. Reviews were good so thought it would be better than average Green King's. garlic bread starter was larger and tasted like it had been warmed in a microwave. The mixed grill was very average.

We went here for family meal and been disappointed. We wait for our meal so long and when it's arrived my ordered sirloin stake was so dry and cooked not I like it. Send it back to the kitchen. My husband and daughter finished them meals till I wait for replacement. Other thing was lack of communication between staff. At the bar we ordered meal for our daughter + desert and desert didn't arrived as waitress sayed we don't have it (after we wait about 30 minutes).

Great local, service was excellent, pleased to have The Tollgate as our local.

Great Green King family pub with a good size garden and a welcoming team to host your visit.

Me and my two friends were served by Leigh who made us laugh and made us feel welcome at our visit to the tollgate. We were sat in the patio outside area and the atmosphere and the vibe of the premises was positive and happy. The bar staff were very helpful with recommending gin flavours and other food related options. The waiting time for our food was brilliant, no issues or delays and the food itself was delicious, no complaints! We are definitely coming here again on future meals out!

Can’t comment too much on the pub itself as only had a drink. The outside beer garden is really well done. Loads of tables and good atmosphere on a sunny afternoon or warm evening. Prices of drink seemed reasonable.

The squid was tasteless the halloumi cheese was burn

The pub is beautiful and the food is always excellent. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I go there with my disabled client and they are amazing. They are a credit to your business. I highly recommend this wonderful inclusive establishment.

Great friendly staff, good pub for family meals, all that has served us have been amazing, most recently Kate S, Maisie A, Josh L, chefs: Leigh G, Marcus G and the rest of the team! Dogs are welcome which is lovely, outside garden perfect in summer, great food, highly recommend :) x

I’ve had a lovely time here. We were served by Joshua who was an utter delight. Nothing was too much trouble. He was charismatic, helpful and attentive. It’s rare to see these days especially in the younger generation but I really just had to highlight Joshua and the impact he made on our visit! Thanks so much Josh for your time and conversation. A Greeneking pub but not great, we decided to ear here whilst in the area visiting our son and the other greenekings were busy, I can see why, the table numbers are written on the limited menu holders in a dark colour so we couldn't see it and it wasn't pointed out to us, I had a blue light card but was unable to get the app code up due to poor Internet, they wouldnt accept the physical card and would usually have a bar code behind the till, these didn't, the roast was all overcooked and beef full of hard fat, Yorkshire pudding black in places and disintegrated when I tried to cut it, the strawberry Eaton mess had a very Sharpe mixed berry compote in it which was not edible, on top of that the lights are so low my son smacked his head off one, considering bury is the home of greeneking perhaps management should leave there offices and sort this place out, at £65 for a two course meal was very expensive and very disappointing

i took my family to celebrate my birthday and we had a great lunch and exellent service throughout. i will certainly be going again.

it was OK food was good but if you get the wrong food thay just say sorry and when you pay your bill and thay make a mistake thay ring you up to tell you even when you have paid it but I would go back it was a lovely day whether thay would have me back after my review

Beef Bourginon and a pint of Abbott £20.60. Food was ok, if a little pricey, but did not come with crispy onions as advertised. Meat was tender, and a good chunk!

Came for father's day with family had a very enjoyable roast dinner i had the lamb shank was very tasty and just came off the bone nice and tender. No complaints at all. The staff were brilliant and good prices. Would definitely come again.

Pub was a bit empty, but bar staff very friendly and service excellent. Good menu choice, including seniors, vegan, vegetarian and child options. Will definitely be visiting again.

Went for lunch here on Sunday. I definitely won't be going back. We ordered roast beef dinners... apparently the beef is served pink. Sounds delicious! Unfortunately our came out grey... Yorkshires that we're flatter than pancakes.. Cauliflower cheese that was cold and so over cooked it resembled baby food. All the vegetables were over cooked. When it was served it was slammed on the table. We had to go and ask for cutlery which was also slammed on the table! No napkins no offer of any horseradish or mustard. Overall not a great experience. The chef need to stick to his day job which clearly isn't cooking!

Ordered a lamb shank with mash and peas.but couldn't eat it as one side was hot and the other side was luke warm . And my partner had hamburger chips the chip was covered in slat which he dont take salt on his food and the hamburger was like rubber. So he didn't eat his. But the waitress did refund us the money back and apologised. Was a shame as I was looking forward to eating g my dinner. Will I go back no waste of time and money. But bar staff 10/10 for there service and friendly and polite response to us

Brilliant music, lovely Sunday lunch, staff were friendly and attentive and a credit to the pub. Was only visiting over the weekend but will definitely pop in again.

This is the little pub not far away from us, we love coming here for a quick bite to eat. My kids have their regular food they know and love. My favorite is the chicken/mushroom special they have had for a while. Highly suggest for good food and a nice place to chill - they have lots of outdoor seating for the whole family.

New to Bury and have been trying to eat at a new place every time. Stopped here yesterday and the atmosphere was unbeatable. Beautiful garden with wonderful views. Good food at a decent price.

Popped in for a light bite and was not disappointed , the king prawn and chorizo in bravas sauce was gorgeous as was the rustic rosemary and olive oil focaccia served alongside to mop up the bravas sauce. The food was hot and served with a friendly smile and chat from Kim . I can always guarantee a warm welcome and great food.

Disappointing, when we arrived we were shown to our table and that was it, no information about whether we ordered at the table or at the bar. Whilst some may think it’s a pub and therefore obvious, a quick word of advice would not have gone amiss. Also would have been helpful to be told what was not available from the menu, would have saved a lot of time.

A wonderful lady called Kim served us and she was amazing! So kind and attentive. The food was awesome as it has been every time we have visited this restaurant/pub Would highly recommend Very reasonable prices too !

I could not fault the meal,i opted for Hunter chicken,My wife had chicken strips and a steak . Served by Kim. The pub was clean,toilets in good order,gardens were clean tidy.

A friend and I went in for an early afternoon drink recently after a long drive. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was brilliant - Kim, in particular, really look after us. I have driven past on many occasions but this is the first time I have gone in - I don't know why it took me so long!

Came here on 30/04/2024 for my mums 70th birthday and what an amazing team .Josie the assistant manager was so great she decorated for us and made it feel so special and even served us the cake I made for mum and Maisie was so good she served us our food and just did so with a massive smile on her face and made us feel so welcome. Thank you so much for making my mum feel extra special and giving us a great family memory

I have visited the Tollgate a couple of times in the past couple of weeks but I felt today was certainly worth a review. I was greeted by a smart gentleman at the bar who was very welcoming as opposed to someone in a tracksuit on the previous visit. From there the experience was very good, food was great and the service was top notch with a special mention to Kim for looking after us today. Thank you all for a lovely experience. Will certainly be back again soon.

Me and my parents are regulars at The Tollgate and there is a good reason why, always great food, well kept real ale and lovely friendly happy staff, especially Kim who regularly serves us our food. She always makes sure we are ok and have got everything we need a lovely person. Thankyou Kim and to all the team at The Tollgate. Always worth a visit 😊👍🏼

100% satisfied with the tollgate. Amazing bbq pull pork topper on the nachos. Not too noisy and a great playlist of music but just the right volume to enjoy and to still talk with who I was with. Wide range of condiments to enjoy. Martin and Josie are superstars great work on running a top notch boozer 😀

Great atmosphere. The new special menu is amazing I had the marmalade pork loin steak for my main and the mango and passion fruit panda cotta. Martin and Josie are running a great pub and can’t fault any of the other team members well done tollgate

Went for lunch with a friend, reservation was made as per our request. Very fast with food order being delivered to table, was great food. Wonderful, friendly service from the bar by Kate. A very enjoyable afternoon.

Fantastic pub with plenty of room inside and a spacious garden/covered area. We always get the friendliest of welcomes from staff and special attention for our dog! Huge thanks to Martin, Josie, Kate, Kim, Joe and Josh - you guys always make us want to come back!

I visited here on 13 April at lunchtime, with my partner, and my parents - for a birthday meal for my Dad. Everything was perfect - a big selection of meals, the meals were fantastic, and the service was both efficient and friendly. There was absolutely nothing to fault. We will return very soon !

Greene King pub. Looked like a familiar environment of staff friends and regular patrons for the early evening. Service was great. Just felt like a stranger walking into the pub/ restaurant.

I booked a table for 10 online, and waited for confirmation which didn't happen. I had to call for confirmation. On arrival there were very little staff available, and waited at the bar for a long time before anyone acknowledged us. We were then told that the party before us was still at our planned table, so we had to sit in the bar area to eat, not ideal with 4 children under 9!! When we ordered no one seemed to know how to operate the tills correctly, we were told that some menu items were no longer available. Finally ordered and waited almost 50 minutes for starters, only 2 out of the 3 starters arrived. The main meals were another 30 minutes, they all came out at different times, food was ok, not great. The staff were struggling and couldn't keep up, but they were polite if not overly happy. I claimed the refund for my missed starter, which had been rung in the till wrong, so I would never have got it. I wished I had asked for a further refund as the whole experience was terrible. The male toilets were disgustingly dirty. The garden area was nice however we found this as we were leaving. I would not visit again, I feel sorry for the staff working under these conditions management needs to offer further training.

Sunday roast was good value for money and quality was appropriate for the price. Nice atmosphere and clean restaurant with good service from all the staff.

I popped in to eat here when staying in the area. The beer was tasty and well kept. I had a pie and mash to eat, mash was obviously microwaved and pie all pastry with little filling, gravy was instant and very lumpy, very mediocre.

8 old friends met here for a reunion (exRAF) We stayed locally and chose here for our evening meal. Now we do this sort of thing about twice a year and this was one of our best meals and venues over the years. We are not easy to look after being a bunch of old RAF pal's, we tend to get a bit loud but the staff were fantastic the inside was spacious and clean with plenty of room a most welcoming atmosphere. The meals were very nice all 8 cooked to perfection and delivered to our table all at the same time, that's not easy for 8 but the staff had it all under control. We all enjoyed the evening and thank all the staff for taking great care of us old gits.

I recently left a review about how unhappy my friends and I were about the service we received. I have found out this evening that this was a temp manager and our amazing manager Martin is back from his holiday. I really can not praise him and his team enough......this temp manager was just a blip with his service,and we will definitely be returning to our local xx WE LOVE MARTIN xx

Kim could not do enough for us. She made sure that our meals were enjoyable. She even got the chef to do me a separate vegan portion of mushrooms. Nothing was too much trouble. The barman was also excellent. Customer service and food were incredible. The pea risotto was delicious.

I had a roast dinner with both meats and an extra yorkie , the food was quick hot and gah dam good, was a good day pub was lilvly bar staff where good too , door was open the whole time so there was a draft but other then that was a great family and pet friendly pub 10 out of 10 would recommend

Good location to nearby hotel. Very good and varied, reasonably priced menu with great options for all ages. Food was really well cooked and presented by Jose. We were all very happy with our meals. All staff were very friendly and efficient.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The staff are friendly, shout out to Josie and Kate . The landlord Martin is excellent always welcoming and remembers repeat customers, nice touch. I have never been disappointed with the food, always hot and delicious, the fish and chips are second to none. Well done The Tollgate.

Popped in for lunch as we were staying in the area and had time to kill on a very rainy day. Ordered katsu curry and fish and chips. Food arrived quickly, great portions and tasted fantastic. Nice place, great staff and will return if ever in the area again.
