Very rude landlord not at all sympathetic to an autistic young adult whom had never been in a pub before wasn’t sure what he was doing, was told to leave as he didn’t speak to the landlord on entry and didn’t order a drink straight away he was finding his bearings as being autistic was in a very unfirmiliar atmosphere

Our go to pub when we want a lovely atmosphere and a warm welcome. The food is great as is the beer! Dogs are welcome which is a big thing for us. Everyone is friendly when you walk in, you never feel uncomfortable. Just can’t fault it. The owners are absolutely lovely and make The Greyhound what it is.

I only awarded 4 stars because meals weren't available at the time we visited, which is a pity because they have a choice of meals priced at only £7 each. 5 stars for service and atmosphere though.

We dined at the beautifully festively decorated Greyhound at Ixworth with a large party of friends last evening and the food was absolutely amazing. The hosts were so welcoming and, although there were lots of us, the food was served piping hot and at the same time. The choice of starters and desserts complimented the sumptuous main course. Can't praise them enough and we will be back soon.

Prepare yourselves for a long but accurate review. We chose this place to eat as it had been a local for my father when he was alive and as a family we wanted to revisit the local area to see the changes too. It was a party of 15 people (1 in a wheelchair) we had pre booked and gave our food orders by email, so the pub was prepared for our arrival. They knew we needed to get a wheelchair inside and they were able to accomodate so they said. Upon arriving family members went inside to ask how to access for the wheelchair user and the gentleman behind the bar was rather fazed but also quite rude, after discussion was told the only access was via steps inside the bar but firstly we had to work our way around the pool table, a couple of locals moved the table for us so we could get access to the landlords disgrace may I add, the landlord then went on to say he never had any order confirmation and therefore tables were reserved or set, luckily or not there was not one else in the restaurant area so it accomodate. We went in and thought we would be helpful by putting the tables together as we would be using them all anyway and of course we would of put them back but he got really defensive with us and wouldn't allow us to move the tables so we all had to sit separately. When we explained we would need room for the wheelchair he started moving one table in the corner and tried to seat the wheelchair user alone and facing the wall, we stated that wasn't possible to do that so we ourselves turned the chair and put another table beside it. If it hadn't of been for the fact that it had taken time to get into the bar/restaurant and seat the wheelchair user we would not have stayed. We placed our drinks order and then our food order all together but it all came out table by table so by time the last table received there meals the first table had finished. The food itself was mostly inedible and was obviously frozen and rushed, Plus they didn't have half the stuff on menu. The whole experience was unpleasant and i can definitely say myself and my family members will not return. Considering this pub has good ratings I can only think this is because the landlady herself is friendly and empathetic unlike her partner who is just grumpy and rude. He even had the audacity to moan about the pool table being moved when it wasn't even us that moved it. And in my career If i had a table of 15 booked in and hadn't received their order like he said i would of been chasing the party organiser wouldn't you ?? Overall one of the worst if not the worst experiences ever received when eating out.

We called in on the off chance for Sunday lunch. We received a warm welcome from the owners, who told us that they had been there for 41 years!! They only do one meat, which on that Sunday was roast beef, which suited us fine and in my opinion is very sensible when times are hard and minimising wastage is essential. And what a fantastic Sunday lunch it was! Three thick slices of very tender beef, perfect roast potatoes, and enough veg for four - cabbage, carrots, broccoli and peas. There were also two homemade Yorkshire puddings each, and lovely beef gravy. The quality was high and we thought it was excellent value for money - and they made our little dog very welcome. It's a shame we were on holiday - if we lived in the area this would be a regular for Sunday lunch!

Stopped off on our way for a weeks break in Suffolk. The wonderful jacket potato with beans with great melted cheese made up for the very unwelcoming reception from the landlord when we walked in and asked if they were serving food on the day. I was very tempted to walk out but we had been travelling for some time and needed a break. Coming from the Midlands it didn't give us a good impression of the area but thankfully it was a one off, the people and service at our destination in Suffolk didn't reflect his attitude at all.

My Family went to this pub for a reunion since we left the village in 1973 it would be 50 years and also my late parents Anniversary there were 15 of us one of which was my sister who is disabled and wheelchair bound, so last year I. Made a visit to the Greyhound along with my wife and sister, we spoke to the landlady who assured us that we could access the pub via the front doors and that we could get a wheelchair in ,so we decided to book this as our venue, moving forward to Friday 14/4/2023 we arrived at the greyhound pub and on inspection found that we could not get in through the front doors so it was around the back, we opened the doors and managed to lift the wheelchair with my sister into this room, we were greeted by a pool table ,as we were discussing what we should do 2 builders who were in the pub got up and moved the pool table all of a sudden the landlord started shouting that the table should not have been moved, at this point we were greeted by another set of steps which we had to lift the wheelchair up at no time did the landlord offer any assistance he was just more concerned about the pool table, we made our way to the place where we were having our meal, there seemed to have been no thought put into this even though I had said family were travelling from far away. The landlord made an attempt to move a table so my disabled sister could sit facing a blank wall, my brother and sister intervened and got it so my disabled sister could face the room and join in.next my eldest brother went to the bar to order drinks, the landlord was very rude pulling faces and not very helpful.once my brother had payed we asked if the food was ready and was told that they had not received the email that I had sent.this did not help the situation so my brother said shall we just Finnish our drinks and leave? However as we had got my sister settled in it would have been difficult because her Daughter/ carer/ driver had left the pub ,so we decided to stay, with this the landlord said he would take our order for food, after about 8minuets he started taking orders for food, the food started coming out a table at a time so by the time my sister got her food the first 2 tables had finished their meals as we were sitting there 2 male members of the party got up to go outside and the landlady started to shout about putting the pool table back, even though we never moved it in the first place, once we had finished our meals the landlord cleared the tables ,we decided to pay the bill at no point did I here the landlord thank anyone. As we had to the get my disabled sister and wheelchair ♿️ out of the pub we had to lift her and said wheelchair down the steps, at no point did the landlord offer any kind of assistance,, he was more concerned that the pool table was put back in its original place. The landlord needs to receive some man management training , I have always understood that the customer is always right. Would not recommend this pub to anyone and will not be using it again.

My disabled mother, attended a meal on the 14th April for a family reunion day. Her siblings checked with the landlord prior to making the reservation that the building was accessible, in which they said yes. There was a couple of possible entrances that seemed accessible, but upon further inspection that was not the case. As soon as we arrived, it was an appalling service from start to finish. The landlord was not welcoming and we felt like my mother being disabled was a massive inconvenience for him and he wasn’t very accommodating. He tried to be helpful and assist with a table she could sit at, but left her facing a blank wall. The family intervened and made her much more comfortable. However his attitude and persona was very unpleasant for the duration. This was a mutual feeling amongst the whole group, so I doubt it was a misinterpretation. In regards to the meal. There was a mishap with the pre order, so my mother had fish fingers, to which she said she didn’t enjoy much. We shall not be returning nor would we recommend to anyone. Please avoid especially if in a wheelchair, as there are to wide steps to get across and also to get past a pool table, making it more harder than it needs to be.

Grumpy Landlord. There were 15 of us having a family reunion on my husband’s side of the family, including one of his sisters who is in a wheelchair, there’s no wheelchair access despite my brother in law being previously told that there is wheelchair access, my wheelchair bound sister in law had to be lifted over the doorstep of double doors at the rear of the building, we were then faced with a pool table in front of the doors, landlord went mental when said pool table was moved aside, next obstacle was a set of 3 stairs which my sister in law in her wheelchair had to be carried up, I asked landlord if he has a wheelchair ramp he said no, finding our way to the area reserved for our party the area hadn’t been properly prepared for us, I could see double doors at front of the building, asked if we can bring wheelchair through there landlord said no because one of the doors is painted closed. Drinks were ordered when asked about our food order that had been emailed well ahead of the day was told he didn’t receive that email, we discussed drinking up and leaving but it was such an upheaval getting the wheelchair in plus the carers and my niece had left so we stayed, orders taken by each table, all together, food brought out a table at a time, service was extremely slow considering it was mostly fish based and chips, the food was average. When we left my sister in law had to be lifted down those 3 stairs, pool table moved again and lifted out of the door. Landlord was more concerned about his precious pool table than his customers. Obviously it’s a very old fashioned pub with a very old fashioned landlord, at the very least he should invest in a disabled ramp for wheelchair access, wish I’d kicked that painted door open (not good for wheelchair access or fire escape with it being painted closed). Landlord was unfriendly and frosty. We won’t be visiting again

Lovely place, wonderful Sunday lunch worth booking. Remember though it is cash only and nearest cash points are Stanton or the garage in Gt. Barton. If you are old Suffolk, Ixworth or Bury, you will love it. If you are from west of Newmarket or south of the Stour try the Bunbury Arms down the road? ;) The menu is roast beef, potatoes and veg and plenty of them and that is your choice, you get what you are given. It has a really friendly atmosphere but book ahead. I would definitely eat here any time I am in town because in a town blessed with award winning food places this is the best and that lady can cook. Shame I live 150 miles away but took me back to my Ingham childhood. Rest of week Greyhound a decent pub. Definitely worth visiting if in town.

Bowls and bowls of vegetables and stuffing and Yorkshires kept appearing. It was all delicious. The quality matched the quantity and I can't understand how they can even produce meals of this size and standard for such a low price. I will definitely be returning. Deserts are very English, sticky toffee pud, Apple crumble etc. Again huge portions, we shared one. Again really tasty, and only knocked a star off because there was a tiny bit of plastic in the custard. This was just unlucky I imagine as the place was packed, and certainly not enough to warrant not returning. Great food and excellent value.

Would have given this a terrible but the beer was good. The Landlords sense of humour was close to offensive and the food was the worst we have had anywhere...undercooked and overcooked....i could go on but i think you get the point.

This is a typical British village pub with comfortable seating, inside and outside, serving good quality bee, wines and non-alcoholic refreshments. However, what sets it apart from the majority of such establishments, is the friendly landlords, the warm, cosy atmosphere and the quality and value of their food. Two can eat handsomely for between £10-£15 and the food offer is excellent, with daily specials usually priced at £5. I advised you to give it a go if peckish.

Went for our annual work Christmas Dinner. Given a welcome drink of prosecco or elderflower, as the non-alcoholic option on arrival. The elderflower was scarcely present, unfortunately there was little difference between it and lukewarm water. Seemed to take an age to be taken through to the dinning hall, despite apparently needing to be at the venue for 6.30. There was no option to open a bar tab - at the bar which had no coke, no lime cordial, no white tequila, only one white wine - so it was complete chaos trying to organise buying the drinks! Eventually taken through to a very nicely laid out dinning hall and seated. Those who wanted another drink before our meal had to go back upstairs, after finding me to come and pay for it. Very inconvenient. The meal started to come out after 8pm - everyone was really hungry. The starter choice was a fig tart, or prawn cocktail. The prawn cocktail was absolutely miniscule - 3 prawns in a little sauce on a little lettuce leaf, it's a good job there was a small bread roll at each place setting! A good 30 minutes after rhe starter had been cleared the main came out - turkey (which was cooked nicely) 3 tiny new potatoes (no roast potatoes) a couple of sprouts, carrots and parsnips, with gravy. A very very disappointing 'turkey roast' without roast potatoes or stuffing. Dessert was either Christmas pudding or raspberry and lemon trifle, which consisted of 3 squares of soggy jellied sponge, some green dots and a spot of custard covered with a squirt of cream. In no way did it resemble a trifle. Even getting a tea or coffee was not possible until the station was 'opened' thought there was no indication whatsoever that it was closed until 9.30! When a member of staff was asked we were told that the doors are closed and nobody should be out there trying to get hot drinks until it was announced as open. All in all a very disappointing meal served by mainly surly servers. The evening lacked any kind of Christmas feel about it from start to finish. Won't be going back or recommending

Noticed the one of my old teenage haunts was open again, and what a lovely surprise. A very friendly and informative owner/brewer made us feel very at home and three pints of the wonderfully tasty Xocolatl Ale was just what the doctor ordered. I was sorely tempted to make my way through his wide array of beers, but could not resist this pale ale combined with cocoa nibs…can’t wait to be back in Suffolk again!

Food review on hold until kitchen open, but this is a traditional Grade II listed English pub - sorry, does mean watch your head. See the pubs in Midsomer Murders, with real atmosphere and genuine locals enjoying excellent hand-pumped Brakspears ales. New young and enthusiastic tenants bring sparkle to the establishment.

Was given a £50.00 token for my birthday. Booked and went today. Dressed smartly. Parked in car park which was full of puddles and ended up entering the hotel with muddy boots and trousers. Felt embarrassed but needn't have worried. Receptionist was busy on the phone so found our own way to restaurant. We both ordered beef. Literally couldn't cut it, the potatoes were also tough (reheated?). The waitress asked us if everything was ok and I pointed out the beef and potatoes. She offered us a steak knife which we took. I gave up with my beef and potatoes my husband valiantly carried on. The puddings were good. The hotel had the vibe of a hostel, the clientele wondering around in jeans, wellies and trainers, lots of children running around (I was told later on that this was a family hotel), we had people with stocking feet, wellies and dressing gowns in the restaurant. The staff were great but the food was not. When we received the bill we saw a discount of £6.00 on it, I asked what this was for and apparently this was supposed to cover the meal I couldn't eat.
