I visited the Plough last week with three other friends. The environment in the resturant is very nice, its a lovely country pub. The starters, they were all very nice, I had broccoli soup which was georgous but my friend had bruschetta with parma ham and rocket, this unfortunately come out and had all been grilled! Yes, even the rocket!!! The Parma was like Bacon so this had to be returned. Mains were nice and Dessert looked nice although I did not have one. Total bill was £90 for 4 which is reasonably priced. Not sure I would rush back but I certainly wouldn't say I wont go back! Try it and see for yourself!

Wow! This was fantastic from start to finish. Lovely starters including delicious spicy prawns . Then huge portions of jambalaya, gumbo, rice, okra stuffed with cheese, grits, biscuits and gravy! Then there were desserts - the Bananas Foster was to die for (and I don't even like rum!) It was clear that the menu had been researched and planned with enthusiasm by chef Tom and his team. The Plough rarely gets things wrong. . . but this time they got it sooo right!

We recently visited on consecutive nights (Saturday and Sunday) at approx 6pm each time. We reserved a table for 5 on both occasions, although on the Sunday this was not really necessary as the restaurant area was fairly empty. The meal on Saturday was very nice with our group selecting from the main menu rather than anything from the specials board. The Sunday meal wasn't as good. The Sunday menu included the choice of pork or beef roast, but neither of these were particularly good e.g. meat obviously not carved from a joint, no crackling as per the menu and with roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding that had been sitting around for quite sometime. Definitely gave the impression of food being leftover after a busy day. Having said that, it was tasty enough and quickly consumed, but we've previously had much better quality at lower carvery prices.Service was great on both nights. We'd certainly return if in the area again.

felt I must give the Plough a review as we visit on a very regular basis, firstly read between the lines of the bad reviews, we have been most days of the week and it is always packed, that in itself tells a story, have always found the food to be of excellent quality and we have probably tried most things from the menu and the specials board, favourites being home made steak n kidney pud, Steak n ale pie and BBQ chicken melt, recently cajun spiced pork chop, one of the biggest chops I have ever seen in a restaurant!! cooked to perfection. We have taken friends on many occasions and all have always remarked on the quality of food and excellent service, so well done Plough, keep up the good work and see you soon.

Expensive meal for sub standard food. Portion sizes are terrible. When we complained at the size of the Paella we were told that it was a weighed portion. For over £12 you would be lucky to have 5 mouthfuls! We decided to return the meal and was given a refund but no apology and no offer of an alterative. The Sunday roast beef was mainly fat and the roast potatoes hard. We have visited The Plough on many occasions before but would never do so again. If the meal wasn't bad enough the customer service is appalling and one member of our party was ill that evening.

This is not a gourmet restaurant... It's a country pub. We went for Sunday lunch. The menu tells you that the roast beef is served pink. If you want it well done, you need to ask. Sadly the beef was very well cooked. Maybe at 1:30 it was about to run out and I got the end of the joint - but my partner's pork was also dry. So. OK but I have had much better Sunday roasts.

I always have the steak and ale pie as its so tasty but on out last visits I decided to try something different. I thought for the price of the burger, that it would be up there with one of the best I have ever tasted. My pet hate is dry meat. And sadly so was my burger. Chips etc were lovely but I expected juicy melt in the mouth meet at such a high price. I can honestly say I have had many better burgers cheaper elsewhere. I'll stick with the pie next time. Disappointing meal.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past and had fantastic meals, this is a favourite venue for all our family get togethers.. BUT.... What went wrong last weekend..? The Yorkshire should never have made it to the plate. The roast potatoes seem to be deep fried and the beef so tuff... Stopped here for lunch on the way for a weekend in Lavenham. Have rated it as average because there is no option to rate as good. There was a very good selection available with a number of specials as well as the normal menu. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I had a quiche with cheese and onion and a homemade apple chutney which was at the bottom of the quiche. From a personal point of view I found the chutney quite sweet and that it made the bottom of the quiche a bit soggy. I think it would have been nicer to have the chutney on the side. Having said that I still ate it and it is just a personal observation and nothing wrong with the food. My husband enjoyed his selection of fried seafood. Would visit the Plough again if I was in the area.

Stayed locally and this is - just about - within easy walking distance (although we didn't!). Beautiful area and the outside has a fantastic view in the beer garden - although wet when we went and we didn't use it, but still appreciated it. Went here the first night and seated in the restaurant, without a reservation. Good food - the rib-eye steak particularly was mouth-wateringly delicious. Booked for another night for our anniversary meal, got stuck in the pub part, so probably best to request where you want to be seated. Food not quite as good 2nd time round - steak superb, but veggies were both under and over cooked. The gourmet burger was good, desserts were even better ;) Staff were very friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, which made a nice change. All in all, highly recommended.

We ate at the Plough in early May for Sunday lunch. There were a big group of us and due to a local event, traffic caused some of our group to arrive a little later than planned. The pub were really accommodating with us placing our order quite late, and were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The pub has a massive beer garden and I could imagine it would be lovely to sit outside in the summer; we were inside but the children played outside between courses. We drank real ale which was well looked after, and our food was okay - but just okay, As pub lunches go, it didn't stand out for me - that might have been that we were late on a busy Sunday lunch and our roasts had been cooked a few hours ago, but I didn't think the food lived up to the reviews on here. Having said that, there were no faults with the food, it was acceptable. I'd return if I was in the area, but probably wouldn't make a special visit again.

We keep giving the Plough a chance to redeem itself, but unfortunately it has let us down yet again. After a weekend away, we decided we would go the Plough for a Sunday roast, so we wouldn't have to cook after the busy weekend. However, we wish we had of gone home and cooked, and this is why: The fire in the bar is a lovely feature, but the chimney clearly needs sweeping. Having left, we now smell like a bonfire from the floating fumes. The air in the bar was hazy with the smog. Not great for me, a contact lens wearer, or for my Mum who had a coughing fit. We ordered our roasts, only for them to be brought to us like warm at best and the roast potatoes hard and cold, they obviously reheat food when it is ordered. We sent our dinners back and waited for round 2, which was just about better. At £11.95 for a roast beef dinner you expect something half decent, this roast is not. We have lived in the village for years and we have watched the food prices climb at the Plough, we don't have a problem with high food prices, as long as the good is good quality. After this disappointing visit, we will not be returning.

I've known Hundon Plough for many, many years and I am well aware of the excellent reputation it has. In fact, reading the reviews here I can only conclude we visited on a bad night. The main courses were fine, but so badly let down by the starters and dessert. 'Tiger Prawns' came as 5 medium sized prawns in a tiny pot with 3 small pieces of bread, and don't add up to £6.95 in my opinion. I chose the 'Luxury Christmas Pudding' for dessert and the tiny, 2 inch diameter individual pudding and tiny mince pie looked totally lost on a 12 inch plate. What was the 'Luxury'? It was a plain, individual Christmas Pudding with a very bland 'Brandy Sauce' with no Brandy flavour to it. Do you really think, in a small Suffolk village, you can justify £5.60 for that?I did wonder, when we arrived, why half the tables were unoccupied, as over the years it has usually been difficult to book there. I appreciate it's really hard to show any profit from a village pub now, but simply maximising the profit from each customer isn't the way forward.

We eat at the Plough at Hundon when we have visitors and want to take them somewhere a little bit special. The restaurant is located between Kedington (Near Haverhill) and Hundon, there is ample parking at the side of the restaurant for twenty plus cars. There are about eight rooms available for visitors requiring overnight accommodation. A visitor can eat in the restaurant or bar areas and parties can be easily accommodated. There is a good selection of food on offer from the a la carte or special menus. A good variety of wines, beers, lagers and spirits are available from the bar or at the table. The prices are competitive with other good quality restaurants in the area but the food and service excels them in my opinion. I was in a party of six adults a couple of weeks ago and our total bill was under £160, for six meals with drinks, a couple of starters and a couple of desserts. The Plough is worth a visit for a meal, a couple of drinks and possibly an overnight stay.

If I lived in hundon I would visit more, I recommend the Plough to my friends who are new to town but are eager to visit. When the sun comes back out we will be there!

Had a very nice Sunday Dinner. Great that they serve on a Sunday till 8pm. You can't always manage dinner at lunch time. Nice selection of food and dessert was delicious.

Fantastic wedding venue we had our reception there in 2011 and they did us proud - every time we visit we are treated to excellent food which are generous in portion size and not to mention an ever changing selection of good ales. We would recommend their beer festivals and Kate plus her staff are always welcoming and friendly. We always look forward to visiting and know we will never be let down.

The Plough certainly lived up to its reputation for good, hearty food. Our dinner was most enjoyable in every way. Our overnight stay was very restful, especially given the pub's location on a rural crossroads in a very scenic area. And the breakfast was good, too! We'd gladly stay here again!

Very warm welcome, unfortunately that is as good as it got.The food was tasteless and over priced. One of us had hairs in our food & I had pastry brush hairs in the pastry. We were not the only diners in the restaurant who experienced problems with unpleasant foreign bodies in our food which should not have been there. Very poor

The Plough Inn at Hundon never fails to impress. Lovely food, super service and lovely location. I visited last Sunday with my parents and had a lovely Sunday lunch. The restaurant was busy, so booking is recommended.

Fabulous location on the ridge of a hill looking over the Stour Valley. Lovely food and a great variety of beers. We also really like the kids menu which is really varied and not your typical 'nuggets & chips' fayre!

A varied selection. The prices were too much and not value for money. The fish was cooked from frozen as the texture of the batter crumbled and the meat was dry.

I stopped at the Plough when I was passing through on my bike. I arrived just as they were opening for dinner, the service was efficient and helpful and the food delicious. Certainly a place to remember for future travels in that part of the country.

Always welcoming on arrival. There are daily specials on the board as well as the regular menu. The food is freshly cooked and we have never had a bad meal there. They put on special evenings (steak night etc) whic are good value. You can eat in the restaurant or the bar area. The garden has lovely countryside views to look at while you enjoy your meal.

It is best to book in advance as they are always very busy. You are made to feel very welcome and they will do eveything possible to make your visit an enjoyable one. The menu always has something for everyone on it. If you are a dessert lover is is worth checking the dessert menu before ordering a starter, as the meals tend to be filling. We have eaten there many times, including Christmas Day, which was absolutley wonderful. If you are an ale drinker, there are always guest beers which my husband takes great pleasure in tasting. The beer festivals are always worth a visit, as the do a great variety of ales & ciders

The Plough Hundon is very nearly a local pub for me , on most occasions I have eaten and drank very well , the menu is adequate and varied with some unique dishes offered and changes regularly , the main reason for eating so often in this restaurant is there is simply no competition at all in the area .That said it is still worth a visit , prices are a little expensive but the whole experience is a worth will trip , recently voted the best family friendly restaurant in Suffolk I believe. The staff are all pretty good and try hard to please .I am not the only person who feels this way , the place is always busy .....sign of a good pub i think.

I was in the area on business in nearby Haverhill. My colleagues took me to the Plough Inn for dinner.I must admit it was an interesting ride through the narrow winding roads that led us to the Plough. But, it was worth it.The offered a wide variety of foods and their prices were very reasonable for the portions they gave. I ordered a tomato soup and a shrimp cocktail that were both delicious and hearty.Their ale offerings were great as well. I especially liked the Jennings Bitters. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the wait service was very friendly and accomodating.Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. This place is a gem and should not be missed if you are the area.I look forward to going back again and again on future visits to the area.

Food review on hold until kitchen open, but this is a traditional Grade II listed English pub - sorry, does mean watch your head. See the pubs in Midsomer Murders, with real atmosphere and genuine locals enjoying excellent hand-pumped Brakspears ales. New young and enthusiastic tenants bring sparkle to the establishment.

My partner's family booked in for celebrating one of his sisters bithday. Best meal ever. The restaurant and staff are lovely. The starters are delicious especially scallops, fresh and juicy. We also had bread and butter from nibblers, wellcooked handmade bread I ever had. Mains are also great, can't fault a Steak cooked to perfection. We had a good time and will definitely go back.

Very rude landlord not at all sympathetic to an autistic young adult whom had never been in a pub before wasn’t sure what he was doing, was told to leave as he didn’t speak to the landlord on entry and didn’t order a drink straight away he was finding his bearings as being autistic was in a very unfirmiliar atmosphere
