Lovely sweet staff but useless. Guinness barrel needed changing. We were sat for food. Ordered a bottle of wine and given no glasses. At which point we were the only people in either food or drinking area. Ordered food. Sorry we dont have that. Sorry we dont have any of that. All once we had sat and had time to choose. Given steaks with no steak knives. Lamb with no sauce. Which tasted like chargrill more than any type of meat. The chocolate fudge cake was a chocolate brownie.

If I could give this no blobs I would Our experience yesterday gave Fawlty Towers a run for its money. I didn't think the new owners could be worse than the previous but wrong again. I should have realised when we arrived at 1pm and there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. My Heritage tomatoes starter was one Tesco cheap tomato cut in 4 with core in a bowl of rocket. The toast with the Duck pate was so thin and stale that it crumbled into sawdust. Big side garnish of rocket. Fish platter accompanied by stale white baguette not ciabatta as on menu. Plenty of rocket on plate though. Roast beef was so tough couldn't cut even with a steak knife. They had run out of horseradish - really on a Sunday when there were only 2 others eating? They didn't have our first choice of red wine. We gave up. Paid for our drinks not the food. Waste of time and money plus return taxi fares. One very upset elderly mother, one very hangry husband and totally **** daughter. Am waiting for reply to my email to Sean Reilly who I am told is the CEO.

Had a great vegetarian afternoon tea at Ravenwood Hall, delicious sandwiches, warm savories and scones with lashing of clotted cream and jam. A lovely pot of tea with additional hot water to top up and attentive staff. The hotel is in fantastic grounds and has a lovely old charm to it. I thoroughly recommend it.

Felt like a step back in time into hushed draperies , carpets, armour on the walls, formal tablecloths. We came here for our anniversary and had a lovely experience. The dining room is lovely with a fire which we particularly appreciated. The tables are well spaced out so we could have a conversation without feeling being overheard. We both chose steaks and agreed they were amongst the best we'd ever tasted. I particularly appreciated the great rioja I had with it. Our excellent first course was followed by new great ;puddings - mine was the panna cotta and my husband loved the 'real' cheesecake that you rarely get in restaurants these days. Service was friendly and attentive and we would definitely return for another special occasion.

I spent the most delightful New Years Day brunch with friends at Ravenwood Hall, no complaints whatsoever, food, staff, ambience made for a perfect start to 2024. We just had the most enjoyable mid day brunch at the Ravenwood Hall Hotel near Rougham Bury St Edmunds. A nice selection of self service cereals, yoghurt, dried fruit, orange juice and pastries. Cooked choices included beautifully prepared Eggs Benedict, traditional English Breakfast, Breakfast Hash, a Smoked Salmon dish or a ‘Healthy Option’ with chorizo and spinach. Our table was next to a big open flame gas fire and it felt very cozy. The waiters brought plenty of good fresh coffee throughout the meal. At just £16.95 a head (apart from alcoholic drinks) it was a good deal and made a nice get together with friends. One we would happily repeat.

Very reasonably priced in a stunning venue. They coped so well with all our last minute changes. Super grateful for the beautiful setting to make memories.

My son treated us to our Christmas lunch at Ravenwood Hall. Unfortunately, they apparently had a problem with their chef letting them down. Greeting us on arrival and explaining the situation and offering free drinks or a small refund would have been nice. Trying to pass off the dreadful meal we were served as worth £100 per head was shameful. Service was poor,no one asked if we would like drinks, no condiments on the table etc. food was dreadful some overcooked and burnt, some nearly raw. My daughter in law was served small amount of turkey, one and a half roast potatoes, one tiny stuffing ball and one small burnt pig in blanket with rock hard Brussels sprouts, the rest of the meal was just as dreadful. We will certainly remember Christmas 2023 as the Ravenwood Christmas disaster.

My father booked for Christmas Day lunch on the basis of liking the new owner's other hotel. Unfortunately, the meal was very small portions and poor quality especially for the top end price charged. The soup had large lumps of fat and rind in rather than lardons, but was otherwise ok. The Gravlax dressing was very tart. The main was terrible. A small plate and it was hardly full. Small bits of turkey, one small bit of stuffing, one small pig in a blanket, no gravy as such, hardly any veg (4 tiny sprouts, 2 small chantenay carrots and 3 half roast potatoes). I know that top end restaurants often serve small portions but they should be well presented and of high quality but the standard of this meal was more comparable to school dinner. The parsnips were missing and when I asked for them I received a plate of half raw parsnips. Talking to other guests they had the same parsnip experience. The pudding was ok but small. It was not clear if coffee was included as it was not listed on the menu. We decided to leave straight away. As we left several other guests were complaining along similar lines to us. I gather from speaking to the manager that there had been some sort of problem in the kitchen. I know that mass catering is not easy but they seem to manage well other times judging by the good reviews. The front of house staff were doing their best and I do not blame them but it was all very poor. A real shame. The meal had been paid for in advance and my father was too polite to make a fuss.

Christmas Day 2023. What a let down. Service was like Fawlty Towers, the staff (some of them) didn't know what they were doing. I call it lack of training. Starter of leek and potato soup was luke warm accompanied by cheap pieces of baguette and no butter. Waited ages for the main which quite frankly was.... shocking. I have had better school dinners and I'm talking over 50 years ago. My husband and I were so hungry by this time we even ate the raw sprouts. However, we decided enough was enough and left before the dessert arrived. The manager of the pavilion, when told why we were leaving simply said, "that's disappointing". Seriously the worst Christmas Dinner ever!!!!

We hired the dining room for a private black tie dinner at the end of November 2019. There were 12 attendees. After a couple of useful meetings with Sarah (our maitre de for the night) and Ross (the head chef) we designed a special 8 course tasting menu to suit the dietary preferences of all my guests. We assembled in the lounge with champagne and exquisite canapés The dining room was beautifully prepared for us with a roaring log fire, table flowers and individual menus for each guest as souvenirs. Because this was a fine-dining gourmet dinner event, and Ross was presenting such wonderful courses, I requested that we had no salt or pepper on the table (they appreciated that). We chose suitable wines for every course but didn’t overdo the volumes so that everyone could make it through to the cheeses at the end. It was extremely successful and everyone was very impressed by the quality of the food, the wines and the impeccable service from Sarah and her very efficient waiting staff. Each course and wine was brilliantly introduced to the diners by Sarah. All of the courses were exquisite and enhanced by some additional items between courses, designed for us by Ross. We were very pleased to invite him into the room and thank him for his team’s excellent work. Overall it was a very successful event and clearly well within the presentation and management skills of Sarah and her team. I would wholeheartedly recommend this venue for any quality private dining event.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch with good starters and Roast Beef served with the most generous portions of vegetables we have had for a long time.Very large Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, red cabbage, roasted root vegetables and roast potatoes. Really hot horseradish as well. The downside was that for an establishment of such standing that the service was poor.We booked a table on-line for 13.00 hrs and when we arrived we were left standing for nearly 10 minutes in the bar as they were ‘very busy’. Why don’t they reduce the booking slots to achieve this rather than make diners wait at the table.Once shown to our table warm bread was placed on our plates even before we all sat down. After a further delay and we were presented with a goats cheese salad even before we had ordered. Menus arrived with the explanation that they had to stagger orders to help the kitchen deal with busy periods. Why did they not spread the bookings to achieve this? After 30 minutes we ordered wine and our lunches. When the wine arrived it was opened, poured into our 3 glasses without leaving any for a second glass, or without us being offered to taste it before it was poured. An hour after sitting down our starters arrived which was disappointing for a place with a certificate of excellence. The remaining courses were served at a sedate pace which we enjoyed but the long wait at the start overshadowed our experience.

Called round my local area to book afternoon tea for 20 of us at short notice I must say. One place that was available was the Ravenwood about 5 minutes up the road. The initial booking was taken by a lady who clearly had no computer skills and it made us worry on booking due to the amount of times I had to repeat myself. Our booking includes 20 of us however due to some family members having other arrangements they would only come for some drinks. Proceeded to let the staff know that we would only order 10 afternoon tees, 3 of which were children’s. They seemed to understand this after the 3rd time I repeated. Due to large party it was all pre -paid and an email confirmation for 10 afternoon teas came through. A few days went past and I received a call at work from Ravenwood whom had left a message asking to contact them back. Within 5-10 minutes off this message being left I received an email.

We’ve eaten here several times including for private dining events. The point of this review is to acknowledge the polite and professional attention we had from the 2 young ladies who were on duty that night (Sat night, Easter weekend). While we were discussing the menu options with one of the waiters (Vic I think) she let slip that she would have to make an enquiry with the chef because this was her second shift and she had only started that week. Nevertheless she was very accommodating and guided us through the menu with skill, suggesting alternatives for our veggie guest. She also was happy to change one of the orders for pre-starter sharing so that we would all have something to eat whilst the main courses were being prepared (2 of us had the roasted chicken which apparently needed 30 min prep time).

The food was still nice but not what we would have chosen as we had looked at the a la carte menu online which looked lovely and was what we expected as the voucher mentioned a supplement for the scallops starter which we would have been happy to pay as we love scallops but wasn’t on offer on the travelzoo menu. We visited Ravenwood Hall as part of a large family group of 22. We have held a family Christmas get together at the hotel for a few successive years and have also attended for other family occasions. We all paid a £10.00 deposit for the Christmas meal. Unfortunately a couple of days before the meal 2 of our party became ill and were not able to attend. On phoning the restaurant to advise of the circumstances we initially spoke to the receptionist who said that as well as loosing the deposit on the 2 members of our party that could not attend we would also have to pay for their full meal, another £15.00 each. Whilst I appreciate that restaurants take deposits to allow for such circumstances I would have been Ok to have just lost the deposit. Not being happy with the response from the receptionist we asked to speak to the manager. To my great disappointment the managers attitude was even worse and I felt was even rude on the phone to me, quoting their terms and conditions (when a company starts quoting terms and conditions they have lost the good will of their clients). I said at the time that I would write a bad review and her attitude was:- Go ahead!

This was booked as a birthday surprise for 12 people. We couldn't believe where we were sat, there was literally only seats for 9 of us. We asked if we could be moved but apparently it was the only space they had! To say it was cosy is an understatement! Service was poor, no one asked if things were ok, if we wanted more tea or coffee, etc and the food was very mediocre with dry cakes. I was disappointed for my mum as she had booked this as a little surprise 'treat' for my 40th with family who were visiting for the weekend. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

I chose this restaurant as we were staying close by for my Husbands Birthday. Our initial thoughts driving up were what a lovely place, very picturesque. The interior was impressive and we were greeted warmly asking us if we would like to have a drink in the lounge or go straight to our table which we did. Everything went down hill from then on with us choosing not to stay. Firstly they had run out of lemon for coke, on its own not too bad! They were under staffed and food was probably going to take up to an hour. We could have “left over beef” this is how it was put over, gravy already made up. We had dietary requirements and requests which were not satisfactorily answered and made our decision to leave unanimous. A let down for what should have been a wonderful evening.

This hotel offers a wonderful dining experience. Although the decor is slightly dated , don’t be put off .. the food is exceptional, it is beautifully presented and prepared to perfection . It is quite expensive but for a special occasion and if you enjoy beautiful food, this is definitely worth a try . We will be back !

Sunday Family lunch for 12 celebrating 92 year olds birthday. Set menu, so kitchen shouldn't have been stretched. Had to ask for drinks which seemed to take staff by surprise, then had to ask for menus. Even though the restaurant was 80% full surely being a set menu means the kitchen would have been prepared? Seemed a long wait for starters but nothing compared for the wait for mains. And when it arrived the very impressive Yorkshires tasted like cardboard, roast potatoes might have been made by a chewing gum manufacturer and, as nice as it looked, my beef was cold. When I asked the waitress for extra gravy in the hope of warming things up, she barked "there's some at the end of the table"! For a table of 12 I didn't think it too extravagant to ask for another jug? On the plus side the separate vegetables were excellent as was the cauliflower cheese. At least someone was on form in the kitchen.

I went to Ravenwood Hall Hotel today for a business meeting followed by lunch. We were served tea in the garden before being seated inside for lunch. I was worried there would be nothing I could eat as a vegan but when I asked the server if the polenta could be vegan he happily said 'yes' but we'd need to omit the parmesan crisp. It was absolutely delicious. Coupled with some skinny fries I was impressed with the presentation and flavour. Not normally a dessert person I could not resist the knickerbocker glory (which they served without the clotted cream icecream and gave it to a colleague in a separate bowl). We did have a wait a while to be served as they were busy but overall I was so grateful I didn't have to be that 'awkward' person in front of work associates. Thank you!

We go to this restaurant regularly, the staff are friendly and the food is always well prepared and presented. We visit many restaurants in the area and this one is generally the most consistently good. My friends are quite fussy and even they think its great. Cheaper Table d'Hote menu available.

Not the best meal out that four of us have had! We were mainly disappointed with our meals and with some of the service we received (maybe because we were using promotional vouchers?) although that then defeats the object of enticing customers in! Needless to say we will not be returning in a hurry.

As a party of four adults, we had a Travelzoo voucher and this entitled us to a 2 course lunch each with coffee. The grounds and the hotel itself are very attractive, though inside it is darker and more traditional (though very smart and welcoming!) than I had expected. We were seated quickly in the restaurant and our waiter was friendly and chatty. I had a few issues as I had printed the wrong voucher (I had bought another voucher for the same deal for my family and printed their expired voucher by accident) so I had a bit of a faff trying to sort that out, but the waiter was patient and it all got sorted. We were brought some bread, but we had to ask three times for butter to go with it. Our main meals were tasty, though the roast carrots on my plate were rock hard. We then had quite a long wait for our desserts, and again for our coffee. We didn’t mind overly, as we were enjoying the setting and chatting with our friends, but we did end up having to ask the waiters several times for various things and our requests seemed to be forgotten or ignored.

Having eaten at the Ravenswood before, our recent visit was not quite up to its usual standard . We had taken advantage of a promotion offer but found the menu choice very basic, and we were seated in the bar area .Not quite what we expected . A choice of bread ,with butter, would have been better than the small dish of oil between four that accompanied our soup. The service was polite, but rather slow, and the food edible ,but the promotion offer would not encourage me to book again .

We dined her for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the place was. The food is above average and the service was also very good. I had a chicken Tika Masala which tasted excellent. We all enjoyed our dishes and we will certainly come back. There are also some ponies, goats, geese and chickens on the walk to and from the car park.

I had previously been to Ravenwood Hall and had I reviewed it after the first time I would have given it a five for both the food and service. The second time would have been a three. I settled on a four because I do realize restaurants can have 'off' days. The first trip was 14 people which is much harder to handle than the 5 on the second trip. One of our party had the fish and chips which she said was very good, another had the spinach and rocotta strudle which she said was OK. We also had the slow-braised beef which was very tough and chewy. Either it was a very inferior cut of beef or it wasn't cooked long enough but there is no way it cooked 12 hours as stated on the menu. The Scotch Broth was very good as was the liver parfait. What really had us puzzled was the service. I don't know if they were training the waiter or what, but he seemed confused as to what he was supposed to do and how to serve a table. I will try them again as it is a lovely place and we did enjoy it the first time we went.

I was expecting a lovely afternoon, however, I was quite shocked as you are treated like second class dinners if you have the vouchers from Travelzoo!

My sister gave us a voucher for a Cream Tea at Ravenwood Hall for our 20th Wedding Anniversary last year. We finally got around to taking it today. Booked it over the phone last week and gave the reference no on the voucher which was for a Cream Tea for 2. Arrived today and were told where we were to sit. They then brought out tea and a tray with Afternoon Tea on it. I went up to the bar and told them we had a booking for Cream Tea and was immediately told "don't worry you can pay the difference"! "No", I corrected "we want the Cream Rea". My husband then asked what the difference was and we decided to stay with the Afternoon Tea.

We went for the special offer of 2 courses for 2 with coffee at lunchtime for £25. The ambience was exactly what we had expected from a country house hotel - cozy and attentive service. My husband went for the beef stew whilst I had the pork belly. Both were good, but not excellent, and the pork was in great need of more sauce. The ginger pudding with poached pear was excellent. Overall we thought the meal was good value for what we had paid, and we would definitely go back there.

Had heard about how lovely Ravenwood Hall is and it certainly is beautiful. The dining room is lovely and the staff very attentive. The menu has a good variety to choose from with beef, lamb, fish, starters, desserts and also a 2 or 3 course menu.

I was part of a group of eight that visited Ravenwood Hall for our occasional luncheon and 'catch-up'. We were well received, and thoughout the service was very good indeed, from a charming, pleasant waiter. I chose from the Classic Menu, at £16.95 for two courses, starting with a tomato and goat's cheese tartlet and finishing with the braised blade of beef. The tartlet was a huge disappointment in that it was tiny and extremely dry. The braised beef on the other hand, was absolutely delicious - moist, tasty, falling off the knife and perfectly complemented with al dente greens and a wonderful homemade horseradish sauce. As always, lunch was served in the beautiful setting of the dining room, and at no stage did we feel rushed. All round, very good.

We visited Ravenwood Hall for our anniversary and the overall experience was very disappointing. We arrived 5 minutes before our table reservation but, rather than being allowed to go through to the dining room, were seated in the bar area. This was fine, initially, but after half an hour without any sign of progressing through to the dining room we asked if we could go to our table otherwise we could easily have waited longer.

12-months on again visited Ravenwood Hall for lunch. The Group was 18 in number. The visit did not start well when the barman short-changed me by £10 & gave me an old £1-coin in the change. This experience may have been as a result of two errors but it left a bad taste. The meal was well served in a timely manner & the onion soup was delicious. It was difficult to judge the pork as it was covered in a very strong tasting gravy, which I found unpleasant. The cheese & biscuits were okay. After a 5-star review last year - when the whole lunch experience was excellent - I found this year’s visit very disappointing, particularly having to check my change carefully at what I assumed was a highly reputable hotel.

Sunday lunch with my elderly Father. We all had the prawn cocktail starter, two had lamb, 1fish and chips and I had salmon. All delicious. Vegetables were lovely although a little more cheese on the cauliflower cheese wouldn’t go amiss but that is just nic picking. I would highly recommend the Prosecco, even the non wine drinker thought it was good. Sadly I was too full for dessert, but the ice cream, pannacotta and treacle tart went down well. This is not a cheap place to eat but with the delightful surroundings and friendly staff, well worth a visit. The only reason I gave just 4 stars, is that there was a family with young children on the next table and they were quite noisy, not the restaurants fault I credit you, but that was the only downside to an otherwise lovely experience.

We have very good experience dining at Ravenswood so we're looking forward to our gift of afternoon tea but left feeling rather disappointed. It did not live up to our expectations nor compare favourably with other afternoon teas we had enjoyed locally. Whilst the staff were pleasant the food was a let down both in taste and presentation and I would not consider it value for money.

Food review on hold until kitchen open, but this is a traditional Grade II listed English pub - sorry, does mean watch your head. See the pubs in Midsomer Murders, with real atmosphere and genuine locals enjoying excellent hand-pumped Brakspears ales. New young and enthusiastic tenants bring sparkle to the establishment.

My partner's family booked in for celebrating one of his sisters bithday. Best meal ever. The restaurant and staff are lovely. The starters are delicious especially scallops, fresh and juicy. We also had bread and butter from nibblers, wellcooked handmade bread I ever had. Mains are also great, can't fault a Steak cooked to perfection. We had a good time and will definitely go back.
