The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

Went here a few months ago - it was empty but we just wanted a drink so had one and left. Went again this week and now it is no children. Told in a very rude way hence the bad review.

My wife and I called in for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. We shared six delicious tapas dishes and thoroughly enjoyed every one. Sarah and Matt are the perfect hosts, after an hour in their company you feel as if you've known them for years! We have been looking for a "local" since moving to Newark, and feel delighted that we have finally found the perfect place. We are going back for our second visit on Sunday and really looking forward to it. Would highly recommend giving it a visit.

First class table service. The food was first class. Hot and tasty. We have been to the Saracens Head on a number of occasions and will be revisiting again soon.

Had to wait 30 mins, but I managed to get a solo table as a walk in (no reservation) on a Monday evening. Food as always at The Ivy was delicious and also reasonably priced. I had a main, a side and a glass of wine for under £35.

Always a warm welcome at the Stamford Arms, wonderful staff and super dog friendly. Perfect for drinks with friends, a meal with family or a good boogie at the weekend.

One of the oldest and well liked of the city centre pubs. Visited by those attending the city's sporting teams and De Montfort Hall, as well as thirsty academics at the nearby Univeristy of Leicester, it is a spacious pub both inside and out. Having been coming here for 20 years there is always a friendly and well trained set of staff here as many generations of ownership have taken place. The current group are particularly good. The food here has improved very much in recent years and Sunday lunches especially are worth the visit. We had different meats and the vegan option and the elements were well appointed. The desserts also normal and vegan had exactly what one would expect in quality food. This pub very much has a finger on the oulse of a lot of beers and decent wines. The outside area is big and good in summer with small huts for groups. This pub is good for couples as well as small groups and comes well recommended.

Went to the gents here and blimey what an experience, No way to dry your hands, The gents cubical had no seat, Would not recommend

Food very good, service from a young man was fantastic,v polite, checking everything ok a credit to the team, first time here ,we definitely be back if not just visiting the area

Amazing great quality food at very reasonable prices. I recommend for lunch the warm beef baguette which comes with French fries and salad. Plentiful at £6.95. Good beer and friendly customer service. Keep up the good work guys!

All food cooked to perfection and excellent service from all staff. Definitely recommend. And also like the outdoor area.
