We visited for Sunday lunch - our first time in the pub. The menu is very limited but everything we had was delicious - one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in a long time. A particular shout out for the cauliflower cheese! And everything was very reasonably priced. The pub itself is very simple - in a good way - nothing fancy - just a traditional village pub. The landlady was super friendly and we look forward to visiting again.

Good quality food at reasonable prices. What more could you ask for, except maybe steak on a Saturday ? It is an informal restaurant designed to provide a relaxing atmosphere, which it did.

This Wednesday me and a friend decided to see what the Willow Tree’s steak Wednesday night was all about!! Well.. it was simply fantastic. Booked a table on the phone with ease and strolled in 20 minutes later. Ordered the steaks, pint of Camden Ale and a Guiness while we waited and played a cracking game of darts. Before you knew it, there was a sizzling steak platter served with great chips and well.. the man of the match for me personally.. the Stilton sauce, apparently “sauced” (pardon the pun) locally from one of the Barnby farms!! Matt and Sarah (the landlords) were great and checked up on us throughout as we ordered yet another round of beers and soaked up the pub ambiance of villager conversations at the bar. I will be visiting again and will probably get a desert next time.

My wife and I called in for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. We shared six delicious tapas dishes and thoroughly enjoyed every one. Sarah and Matt are the perfect hosts, after an hour in their company you feel as if you've known them for years! Three of us went for Sunday lunch today, as we wanted to try it out before we booked for our daughters birthday next month We were greeted warmly by the owner and promptly seated at our table. We ordered drinks and had a nice chat about alcohol free drinks and their availability. We ordered our food and it arrived after a short wait. I can only say, it was one of the best roast dinners I've had in a long time and my family agreed. Two of us had the beef, which was pink and tender, just how we like it and one had the chicken breast, which was moist and tender too. All were plated with mashed and roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and glazed carrots. The best cauliflower cheese and green veg were served separately along with a jug of gravy. Absolutely delicious! Hubby finished with sticky toffee pudding and custard. All in all a lovely experience, with great hospitality. We will be back

The Willow Tree is a fantastic pub with welcoming hosts. Sarah, Matt and Mika are always welcoming and friendly. I am a regular at the pub as I live in the village and regularly attend some of the events they hold (quiz night, open mic, food nights) The Sunday lunches are also delicious and something I can’t wait to indulge in more over the colder months! I wanted to write a review specifically for the Tapas Night last weekend as it was exceptionally well organised, and the food was authentic and spectacular. We were greeted at the door by 2 friendly waitresses and taken to our table and served our cava whilst the Spanish guitarists played. The smell of garlic and chorizo in the air, I was instantly transported to Spanish holidays I requested the vegan options and was not disappointed. The starter platter of bread and oils etc was vast and of exceptional quality for vegans and meat-eaters alike. A special mention to the delightfully refreshing Gazpacho and the perfectly cooked padrons! The main event was equally plentiful and packed full of flavour. The meat-eaters enjoyed their selection and I was able to have a number of the same dishes for me amongst a few other replacements. Special mention to the Pista and rice and quinoa dish that was a hit with the entire table. I was stuffed! I engaged the pudding stomach at this point for the griddled pineapple in rum and brown sugar with coconut yoghurt . WOW!. All in all a wonderful night, many contented full bellies with that Spanish glow on our faces. Well done to the team for the first pop up and we very much look forward to the next one!

Great complimentary breads and oil while waiting, I had the pork, which was perfect whilst my wife had the Nut Roast, which even I would have been pleased with. The menu is a couple of starters and basic Sunday lunch.Parking is easy enough and there is an entrance through the small galley styler garden.Staff are very welcoming on arrival and helpful. The amibiance and decor of the dinning area of the pub is excellent. Lovely rustic feel to it, with fire place in middle which may well be lit in the winter. It appeared a popular place to eat with only a couple of empty tables.Main course offered is a classic English Sunday Roast with a choice of meats.Portions are more than adequate with a nice selection of vegetables. The food was edible but not the best I have had over the years. Booking essential as Brett works on his own in the kitchen. We booked a couple of hours before going and walked the 20 steps from our room to the pub. The meals were great, the steak and stilton pie I had I thought would be too much for me to eat, it was so delicious that I ate it all, the pastry was just right, not fatty at all, much to the dismay of my husband who thought he would be finishing it off. He had the flat iron steak, which makes you think it would be a thin steak, but far from it and he throughly enjoyed his steak too. We both had a desert, banana split with homemade ginger ice cream and a baileys ice cream scoop and apple cinnamon crumble, both excellent. I only took a photo of the banana split. The beef was excellent as were the vegetables and the roast potatoes some of the best I've had. My sister in law is Gluten Free and they were happy to accommodate her, the head waitress is also a sufferer so she was very sympathetic to the requests. The Sticky Toffee pudding was delicious and the home made ice creams really good as well. I had a really excellent veggie meal here. It was obviously carefully designed as a specifically vegetarian dish, and not just one with the meat substituted by something else. This shows how good real veggie food can be, but so seldom is. The only problem is that, inevitably for a small restaurant, there's just the one choice available. We felt the prices were really too low for the quality of the food served, even if the level of service was no more than average. Despite the lovely food, its difficult to visit the Willow Tree too often simply because they don't manage to change the menu very frequently, which is quite a shame.

It isn't easy to find but I can't understand why they don't have people queing out of the door. We went for Sunday lunch and had the Rib eye beef and I've never tasted beef this good, so tender it just melted in your mouth and the veg cooked to pefection. The pork was also fabulous with a nice bit of cracklin. If you like food cooked to perfection, you will love the Willow Tree. It might be a little more higher priced than the "Chain" type pubs but without a doubt, you are getting value for money. It's about 90 mins from where I live so it won't be a regular visit but this is heaven for people that love food cooked to perfection none of your pretentious "chargrill" with burnt bits and BBQ mentality.

Having lived in the area for more than a fair few years now, exploring our surroundings has become a regular event. My dad has always liked the name 'Barnby in the Willows' and said that we should try out the pub/restaurant there. Not only do they brew their own beer in the Micro Brewery, but the homemade ice cream is also a delicious surprise. We booked a few weeks back as it recommends booking in advance on their website. There is also no push to get you from your table once you have finished your meal which was good as we could not have moved that quickly. We had a couple of the appetisers whilst looking over the small but more than adequate menu. One of our group has a food allergy which we had made them aware of and we were given suitable alternatives when we were handed our menus. We had a starter, which I have to admit, the mushrooms with Stilton on toast was so delicious. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the pie was full of meat and gravy and my son had the double burger which almost defeated him. Home cooked chips are deeeeelish. The vegetables were also spot on. Not the normal over cooked mush that's been reheated in a microwave stuff here. Desserts were followed a few minutes later. I can personally vouch for the sticky toffee pudding with the homemade vanilla ice cream. It is one of the best meals we have had out in a very long time. The menu is available to look at before your visit. I do not know if there was a child's menu, but no small children were in the building. As I mentioned, it is a small but more than adequate menu. All food cooked fresh by their chef. If you can not find something you would like, then stick to McD's and make way for the foodies that like good, honest home cooked food. This is a lovely gastro pub, who brew their own beer, use local produce and make their own pudding too. What more could you want. Do we recommend : YesAdvice booking in advance : YesSuitable for young children : not really, but they may cater for them. Repeat visit : more than likely.

We booked in the Willow Tree Cottages and were pleasantly surprised to see The Willow Tree next door. Arrived after 8.30 pm and hungry. We ordered our meals, which were perfect, well presented and ample portions. The pub has a lovely atmosphere, cosy and welcoming. The staff were warm, friendly and easy to talk to. After a night of amusing banter and a delicious meal we would highly recommend The Willow Tree and would not hesitate in going there again when visiting relatives in Newark

You really do intend to visit the Willow Tree as it you will not pass it going anywhere. It is in a quiet village at the end of a country road and as such , although we have lived in Newark for some time, we had never visited before. We arrived to be greeted warmly and had a pint of the home brewed beer which was very nice. The place was busy but not overfull and we ordered and were seated fairly promptly. We chose whitebait and chilli prawns to start which were good but not brilliant, which also describes the ribeye steaks we both had. Enjoyable but lacking any finesse. We finished with cheese and biscuits and for me a sticky toffee pud, which was good. The serving staff were all friendly and efficient.

Found this gem of a place after it was recommended to us , Not normally keen on recommendations as I like to form my own opinion on places ,however this was bang on ,I never ordered steak until I had my first one here ,now other places just cant compete in steaks department ,the landlord cooks ,serves behind the bar and also finds time to run his own brewery ,what a guy ! The beers are tasty too ,all in all a friendly pub ,with a good landlord serving pleasant locals ( and passer byes) great food and great beer !!!

We were looking for somewhere to meet my parents between us, and The Willow Tree popped up on Trip Advisor, which is exactly half way. There were some great reviews, and we definitely agree that it is a welcoming country pub with lovely staff and great food! We'll certainly be going back to try the week day menu :-)

We were looking for a half way house to meet my brother and his wife before Christmas and The Willow Tree came up with some fantastic reviews so we booked for Sunday Lunch and were not at all disappointed. My Mushrooms with a Stilton and cream sauce on toast were excellent and the three who had the soup said it was very flavorsome, my brother had the Blanchebait which were also very well cooked. My sister in law is Gluten free and she was very impressed with the bread - she said it was the best she'd had! We all had the Roast Beef which was cooked to perfection and very tasty and tender - there were masses of very well cooked vegetables and we all agreed it was an excellent meal - absolutely no complaints about the portions or the quality of the food and we felt it represented excellent value - the girls were all very polite and the service could not be faulted - I'd also just like to say how nice it was to have all the food served piping hot - so we felt it had been a very good find and certainly lived up to the recommendation on TripAdvisor - it did not disappoint!! Well worth a visit!

Arrived in the bar to find the fire lit which was welcoming as it was cold outside and the Christmas lights up which added to the ambiance. The staff were happy to provide a taste sample of the Handley's beer which is brewed on site, Dark Lane and BPA were available, I chose the lighter of the two BPA.The menu isn't extensive but all meals are cooked to order and ingredients locally sourced. I chose the rump steak and asked for it "pink, but not too pink". My friend also ordered the rump steak medium rare. Both steaks were cooked exactly to our liking, tender and flavourful, perfect! The side salad was also very tasty and served with plenty of home made chips. The staff were cheerful and attentive. All in all a very enjoyable evening thank you.

Thanks to the recommendations on Trip Advisor, we booked this little gem and spent a very pleasant evening with friends at The Willow Tree. The food was traditional fare but very good, the atmosphere was relaxed, hospitable and friendly. Home brewed beer made a real change to the big brewery usuals. We will most certainly be meeting our friends here again!

Booked in for Sunday lunch and it was tremendous. The beef has to be the best we have ever eaten in a pub for Sunday lunch. As many of the ingredients as possible are locally sourced and they are beautifully cooked. The sticky toffee pudding and home made ice cream were to die for.The landlord as well as doing the cooking also brews beer in a brew house at the back, which is only sold in the pub. We tried 2 of his brews and they were great.Staff lovely. Prices are very reasonable too.We will definitely return - brilliant

Ate here a few times as I was down here working and staying next door. Absolutely fantastic place, the steak and Ale pie was incredibly good (best pie I have ever had), and the home brewed beer was out of this world, I'd come back just for the beer alone, I hope I have work down there again, so I can go back.

Enjoyed dinner here whilst staying at the B&B next door. Lucky for us it was good as there is nowhere else close to eat.It is a typical old english pub with plenty of charm. The staff are lovely and the pub is well decorated, with a choice of eating in the bar area or in the restaurant. We chose the restaurant. We chose the small fish and chips, which was plenty, and the steak and ale pie with chips and vegetables. The pie was huge and the extra gravy especially nice. For desert we had the crumble and custard which was delicious. With drinks it was under £40.There is plenty of choices to suit most people, the portion size are good, so no complaints.Would eat there again.

First visit and certainly not last. Wonderful starters and lovely Sunday roast. The sirloin beef was tasty and the veg was good. Possibly needs better gravy and it would have benefited from warmer plates as food was only warm. For £11 you expect everything to be perfect so room for improvement. Dessert was the crumble which was wonderful. Will certainly be back as food service and setting all wonderful.

Staying in the area for a week and always like to try the local village pub. This one has to be one of the best, especially for food. Had lunch on Saturday absolutely amazing pork belly tapas with fries plus mac n cheese and went back the same evening for specialty burger plus a grilled garlic chicken all things worthy of a 10 out of 10 some of the best food ever tasted. Add to that very reasonable prices lovely staff friendly locals and impeccably clean toilets. Wish this pub was in our home town

Stayed here overnight after going to the nearby Race course Really nice place with its history and clocks! Friendly staff and a very efficient waitress at breakfast. Bed wasn’t the most comfortable but only stayed for one night, otherwise would have requested another room. To be fair we were given that option upon our arrival. One other downside was that the neighbouring room complained about the noise of our TV, which wasn’t actually that loud. The adjoining walls are clearly paper thin. All in all we would use the place again if needed.

A first class meal, without blaring music, you could really relax and enjoy the conversation . We both chose the steak and it was as good as any I have ever eaten.
