Queens Head Newark Market Place in Newark and Sherwood

On a Saturday afternoon we approached the Queens Head, there was a couple of do as you Likeys stood with another couple sat on a pony and trap being loud and swearing at each other. We entered the pub and on ordering the bar maid had trouble with the barrels of each drink ordered! Then from the back came a crowd of pikeys swearing and shouting at each other and on about their sex lives. The barmaid knew them by name so they must have been regulars. Then the two we had seen standing outside came in loud abusive. We only stayed for the one drink and went off and found a pub with better clientell within

Excellent beer, but don't serve food.

Lunchtime visit, pretty empty. Probably great on a Friday night but not a great atmosphere that day. Beer was a bit pricey for what I had. All that said, a fair town centre pub.

We didn't eat but the drinks are reasonably priced and a great atmosphere.

this on river pub was a refreshing chance for the bros, a biker haunt but we went to Newark by car to visit the auto mart on Sunday

Pub was barely full, yet half of my friends got rejected of an evening out because, apparently, they were drunk. Some of them had not even had a drink, disgraceful. Not a pub, i wish yo enter anytime soon.

Decent pub with classic architecture and ambience

I enjoyed a great pint of Aspalls cyder on a hot sunny day which was delicious and was served by a lovely young lady.

just popped in for a pint, lovely young lady behind bar. pub inside very quiet but other drinkers a bit rough (sorry).

Stopped in for a couple of pints, the Guinness was good

This 16th century heritage listed building is over 500 years old. The ceiling beams are sensational. The staff and patrons were friendly, the beer was cold and the atmosphere warm. TV’s for those wanting sport. Very cool pub on Market Place.

Not exactly my type of music but it was ok

This is a really pretty pub that me and my friend enjoyed visiting, further welcoming us with the interior design! It is vintage and also has worthy additions on the walls, the staff were friendly and the counter is well-presented. I enjoyed a pint of Carling, seating is comfortable and the prices are solid!

Variety of drinks, bar food. Late night music is OK, dance floor does need a clean ad very sticky

Generic pub that has nothing exciting but nothing offensive. Standard beer choice weird dress code parameters.

Well I came here and ordered a drink. The barmaid seemed rather grumpy. It's very dingy and depressing inside this bar. The drink was fine. The toilets were perplexing as they have cut a chunk out of the door frame in the cubicle, meaning the door does not lock! The entertainment was in the form of the barmaid telling everyone the story of how she was sacked from working at another pub and barred for hitting her boyfriend's ex partner, charming! Unfortunately for this pub, I can't take them any higher than three stars , as it is simply not worthy.

This is one of my favourite night time pubs in Newark... Good Friendly staff Brilliant choice of cocktails and drinks Good entertainment Plenty of bouncers Bad Toilets are not very clean and only two so can oftern be queues This isn't the pubs fault but needs a mention, bit of a thuggish crowd

A pub full of 'characters '. A locals pub. It's literally 20 yards from Wetherspoons, so the prices are competitive. Clean toilets and dog friendly.

Great night in here. Good music upstairs and lovely bar staff downstairs. Great cocktails. Recommended 👍

If your looking to dance the night away, this is probably one of your only options in town right now. A good atmosphere late on, enjoy!

Friendly service, nice decor and cheap beer. Lacking classic ales/bitters and craft beer but when I asked the lady working there said 'they don't sell' which is fair enough!

Nice pub and the staff are great. Plenty of locals drink in there, despite Spoons being near, that speaks volumes about this pub.

A popular watering hole with several televisions so if you enjoy watching football and other sports this pub will fit the bill. Enjoyed half a Guinness served by a friendly member of staff. The exterior is appealing with the dark timbers, leaded lights and jettied construction. Inside the character continues with wooden beams and exposed brickwork. At the rear there is an attractive section with more comfortable seating provided by chesterfield sofas and armchairs, illuminated by chandeliers. This pub specialises in Thai food and there are several dishes for vegans and vegetarians to enjoy.

Had lunch here yesterday with my husband and it was amazing. I had the green curry which was delicious although hotter than expected, and my husband had the massaman curry. We will definitely be back!

We called in the Queens Head for drinks recently, and we enjoyed a really pleasant evening. The location is wonderful in the beautiful town of Newark.

Popped in today to try the thai food and was not dissapointed. Really tasty authentic thai cuisine and a great price. The staff were very attentive and friendly, will definitely be visiting again!

Beer was good and the decor of the place is inviting!

This club stank of narcotics. The bouncers were very unprofessional, rude, and aggressive. I felt very uncomfortable in their presence and very unsafe. I wouldn’t return if I was paid.

Went there on a very hot day sat outside and had lunch, nice food great bargain and far nicer than Wetherspoons over the road. Beautiful old pub. As it was a sunny day a lot of people sitting outside- no loud customers in the Queens Head ( it was Thurs pm) However the customers outside Wetherspoons right opposite( right angles to this pub) had clearly been drinking all day( it was about 3 pm) and their lairy shouting was a bit offputting to everyone. I do think this is a lovely pub and would go back again if ever in Newark

visit before heading home. Food was very acceptable and served promptly in well appointed quiet area at the back. Otherwise somewhat lacklustre.

Great fun on a Saturday evening with their disco. A variety of music on offer upstairs and downstairs. Loved the cocktail bar!

Great atmosphere and great food

The epitome of enjoyment is, sitting outside in the sunshine drinking a cold pint of larger overlooking a busy market place with well behaved people. Is was just another event, this time a book festival but none the less very relaxing. The Queens Head is ideally situated just off the main square to watch everything that is going on. This lovely pub doubles up as a Thai restaurant as well and I could see why. One if not two of the staff were actually Thai and all for a very reasonable price. Go for the green curry. Inside the pub is very old retaining all the charm it was built with. Away from the bar is a room with super comfy armchairs just like being at home and if you are a gent and you use the toilet check out the mirror over the sinks. I’ll not say more. Go and see. You’ll not be disappointed.

Queens head or Witherspoons, Queens head won staff friendly a pint £3 that was good , misses was hungry so got the menu it was thi food never tried it ,Made our order didn’t wait long food was fantastic,fresh,hot,and many flavers highly recommend

Admittedly, the football was on TV when we popped in here for a drink, but the clientele of mainly men, many of whom were constantly swearing, inconsiderate at the bar, noisy, and standing blocking the view for others who wanted to watch the football, meant that we couldn’t wait to get out! Sorry, not for us!

We had a pint of Doombar and a pint of Abbotts here. The former was truly dreadful and the latter not much better. How do you make beer taste of vinegar? There are many pubs in Newark selling better beer than this.

Restaurant upstairs serves microwaved chicken..

Years ago, this was a great pub. Can't comment on the food, I would not eat here as too many 'loud' drinkers - it's turned into another lowest common denominator pub I'm afraid.

Nice pub, not changed much since I worked there 20 years ago however it has booming music and the clientele is a bit loud/might start a fight for fun, can never stay in there for more than 10min before I get the urge to leave Will stick to the classier places myself but if you're a youf, chav or the kind that fancies a punch up, this is probably right up your street

If you visit the Thai restaurant upstairs you will get delicious, freshly prepared Thai cooking. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Good selection of dishes and generous portions. Reasonable prices except “Green Tea” £2.50 a pot. Served with hot plates and nice ingredients. Well worth a visit.

The Mrs dragged me to Newark for shopping and we called in here for lunch as she had been before. It's a traditional boozer where you can sit and enjoy a pint whilst watching the football. The best thing for me is you can get really decent Thai food cooked upstairs and sent via a hatch down to the pub. The prices are reasonable, the service really good and friendly and the food excellent. Will be going again and would recommend to anyone.

Went in with husband his ribs cold and bland I asked for a blue steak received med to well done when I returned it they asked me if I would like to order something else because they couldn't cook a rare or blue steak.Didnt order anything else because the other items I liked on the menu were all fish if they can't cook steak they cant cook fish didn't want to be ill.Do not eat here!!

was closed for a long time, nice to see it open again, we have been twice, both times meal good. in the centre of newark near market place.staff polite and friendly.we had thai food both times.next time we must try other meals....

Fantastic food in a lovely setting upstairs. The service provided by our waitress was very attentive. The drinks and food very reasonably priced for the quality that was served.

This beautiful Tudor pub had such potential but is such a disappointment with large sport's TVs, cheep booze and loud customers.

Birthday meal. Jungle curry was VERY hot! Enjoyed our meal. Waitress said she was new, but was very nice and if she could not answer our questions about the dishes she went and found out from the chef. Lovely position in the centre of Newark.

Sit inside this historical pub in Newark’s beautiful town centre or take a seat outside in the sunshine. The staff are very friendly but the main reason to visit is the deliciously authentic Thai cuisine. I’ll recommend the pad Thai, enjoy!

Lovely hidden gem with great atmosphere. Food tasted just like in Thailand without holding back on the spice 😋 absolutely delicious & friendly service.

We were attracted to the pub by the olde Worldy feel, we were welcomed by kalem who was the perfect bar man. Knew his stuff and was informative about the place.

The food in the restaurant is authetic, the service is efficient and friendly, we liked it there and will be back next time we are in Newark.

This restaurant needs to advertise more, found only because of tripadvisor. Excellent lunch, mixed starters for two then curries for both of us. Only a handful of customers, very well served and proper Thai music when asked.

Delicious Thai food, with good vegetarian option, in a perfectly restored Queens Head. Cosy & welcoming with good service & plenty of smiles. We really enjoyed our evening & will be recommending it to all!

Best food in Newark at the Thai restaurant upstairs. Very good price.

Not had Thai food for ages and decided to try the newly opened Queens Head Thai Rice restaurant. Its set in a glorious black and white timbered pub in the market place. Down stairs is a nice cosy bar with exposed beams and cosy tables selling a good range of beers, upstairs is the Thai Rice restaurant again exposed wood and timbers in abundance. There is space to dine in comfort which made a pleasant change and plenty of nooks for a romantic meal or space for a large group or party. The best bit was the food freshly cooked with fabulous rice, I had coconut but my wife had fried rice which was the nuttiest rice I have fever tasted and could be a meal on its own. This is a family run restaurant and after the meal the lady chef came out to check if we had enjoyed it a very nice touch. Good food good beer and lovely friendly service with very moderate prices Highly recommended and a pleasant change from the Saturday night Indian.

Went on the off chance of getting a table on Friday. Food was excellent and service also good.... a little hidden gem!
