Fox and Crown in Newark and Sherwood

Called in for a cheeky pint while out shopping yesterday. Great selection of real ales, I had the Elsie Mo - obviously well kept beer, tasted great. Also tried half a pint of strong cask stout called "Snowball" which was excellent. My wife isn't as refined as I am so she wanted a prosecco, which they also stock - bonus. Got peckish while I was there and decided to try some of the Mexican street food. Really glad I did! I had the Chicken Pastor Tacos, which I ordered as "Spicy". Order arrived - 3 good size tacos with the chicken filling and a garnish of guacamole and salsa. Absolutely delicious , glad I didn't have the extra spicy as they were more than hot enough for my taste, (and I do like spicy food), so take on the extra spicy at your own risk. Overall: Friendly, knowledgeable service in a nice old fashioned traditional pub. Very well kept ales and an excellent selection. Food was top notch, could have been a tad warmer (temperature wise), but soooo tasty I just kept on eating. It's worth going just for the beers if you're a real ale fan, (and they have prosecco to keep everyone happy ). But the great mexican food is the icing on the cake, highly recommend you give it a try - we will definitely be back.

A super friendly and welcoming pub, with a great relaxed atmosphere. Loads of craft beers on offer and the Holy Moly mexican food is so good!! Definitely recommend the veggie burrito.

Mexican food was well nice and very reasonable, beer was excellent and the service and staff were very good. Atmosphere wasn't great but it was 5pm on a Monday so can't blame them for that! This was the last of three work visits to Newark and I'm very annoyed that we went to other pubs/restaurants for food on the first two, this place was way better. Would definitely recommend. Will be back if I'm ever in Newark again

Great real ale venue in Newark, love the selection and varied strengths of beers, something for every palate.

I recently visited this place to celebrate a birthday. Initially, I felt like it was very stuffy and there was no air to breathe, but I got used to it with time. Air-conditioning is missing tho. They have a great selection of beers, which is beneficial. Very clean toilets, however very cold. Felt like in the fridge. I would lower the music, otherwise, everyone has to shout to hear. Very friendly staff. Generally, I enjoyed my time out

First visit since reopening, great selection of keg beers fresh from Neon Raptor tap takeover, no major changes to how the pub used to be, definitely back on the Newark pub trail.

Glad this pub has reopened. Was busy as Beermuda triangle was on. Guy behind bar was working like a one armed paper hanger. Could've done with a other person to help out. Lovely selection of ales, well kept amd delicious. I'd go back again.

My first visit and probably last as they are due to close at the end of Aug. A really great pint and full attention to social distancing etc. I shall miss you.

Came with a friend last year for the first time because there were good vegan choices. I was very impressed of the choices when I seen the menu and I plan to go back again this weekend. A lovely place. It really felt welcoming and lovely staff.

Spent the weekend in Newark and tried most of the watering holes. This was our fave. Good beer selection, Six Nations and free cheese!

Nice but the choice of live music could have been better. And the staff can very choosy to who they want to serve they seem to want to serve requlers first.

Although this pub is always busy it is a very friendly, sociable place. Being so convenient for the Palace Theatre, this is where we come for a pub meal when over from Lincoln to catch a show. Pub meals are good value too.

Had a great impromptu night at the fox and crown. Open mic night on a Wednesday was a fantastic compliment to great beer and good food. Well worth stopping by for friendly service any day of the week.

A very cosy pleasant pub with friendly staff. Very attentive to our dietary needs (one vegan, one vegetarian and a lactose-intolerant) and the vegan roast was wonderful. Lovely place

Proper pub with old style decor, friendly staff and great range of individual beers and ciders. They do food lunchtimes and 5 til 9 evening. We didn't eat there bit prices looked ok. Selection of the out real ales too. Probably wouldn't recommend it as child friendly.

Welcoming seemed quite busy and cider and beer excellent from pump... food was poor for the price and they could not provide fresh cobs for the ploughmans share platter which came minus pork pie ( 3pm ) and two slices of toasted bread 😶 instead of fresh ...all in all not grand ...pickled eggs definately tainted...would probably go again if only to try cooked food choice...

Nice friendly pub with a good selection of beers and cask ales. The food is satisfactory for the price, which is very affordable. The floor is stone flags so don't expect a cosy comfortable place, but the drinks make up for it.

After visiting the pub today, I’ve left feeling totally letdown. This pub is a castle rock pub and I’ve visted plenty of them in the past. The staff on the day of my visit Tuesday evening, where rude and came across totally uninterested in my custome. Rather than serve me they seamed more interested in serving and chatting to what appeared to be regulars. I shall not be returning

Lovely loos. CAMRA booze. Cheapish food. Lots of choice. Friendly staff and clients. Pub like interior, plenty of room to sit. And our groupon was still vkd so a main and a pint for £5 - not bad.

This pub is a castle rock pub and has a good range of craft beers on tap and has a craft beer bottle shop good pub food, live bands and open mic night every Wednesday and is dog friendly. The only downside is that it has no beer garden.

Great Castle Rock pub, with well kept guest ales sitting alongside their own range on the bar. Large range of ciders, and also a big selection of world beers available to take home from the bottle shop. Different distinct areas to the bar including a snug, add to the character. Decent food, from bar snacks (try the chilli pickled eggs) to full meals. Friendly, helpful staff. Discount for CAMRA members.
