The lack of a restaurant didn't matter. We ate in a lovely Thai restaurant in the town, within easy walking distance. The receptionist was lovely and friendly. The room was absolutely fine. No issues with anything.

Exactly what we wanted, rest and relaxation. We had never been to Newark before so thought it would be a good choice for a January overnight stay we had planned. We booked the executive room, large with a sofa and a little table and chairs. Warm and cosy room, very comfortable and clean. Beautiful bathroom. We went into town for the afternoon, visited the civil war museum. Lots of history in the area including the castle and though the centre is quite small we passed a happy afternoon around the shops. Unfortunately we just had breakfast in the restaurant as it wasn't open the night we stayed. Breakfast was lovely. Would love to stay again and try the restaurant as its a lovely area, I imagine in summer the conservatory, bar and courtyard are great because it's so light. Just a short walk to the centre. A lovely friendly welcome, we had a very enjoyable time at the hotel. Its in a very nice area close to canal walk, bars and restaurants if you want to go out. We just wanted to be warm and cosy on a nippy winter's night and we were.

I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels, easily hundreds. This is the worst, by far. I rarely write reviews, but I felt I had to warn people away from this place. I arrived to a welcome that can only be described as an thorough inconvenience to the staff. Standard rooms are basic at best, I would describe as ‘significantly sub-premier inn’ and equivalent to a Travel Lodge beyond it’s retirement. We arrived back from dinner and the bar was firmly closed. I retreated disappointed to my room and after unpacking I was treated to a complete black out - power was down to my room only. I found the desk phone by phone-torch light and dialled the number for reception. Nothing. I dialled the number for the night porter. Nothing. I dialled all the other numbers. Nothing. I walked back to reception, (why am i always in the room farthest from the entrance?) I was told ‘this always happens and it’s probably a blown lightbulb’. Once should have been enough - Why isn’t it fixed? The breaker is eventually switched to on and I walk back to my room disgruntled by a distinct lack of apology. Moments after my return the power goes again. Back to reception - on a positive note I reach my step count for the day. Vague apology and a new key is issued, apparently it’s a suite. But it‘s still well below the standard offered by an average hotel chain. I will never use this hotel again. Avoid.

First impression of this Hotel was average. The reception area reached of cigarette smoke. The room was adequate but a little tired .The bathroom had recently been refurbished and the decoration had been skimped . The evening meal was good , my wife & I both had the salmon . The crumble was excellent. Breakfast was below average .The toasters need replacing ! The staff were very friendly & helpful .

Arrived after a tough day at work & just wanted to watch T.V in my pyjamas with a sandwich & I glass of wine but sadly no room service. Didn’t fancy sitting alone in the soulless empty restaurant so made do with some crisps. Also asked the receptionist if I could order a Daily Mail for the morning but you would have thought I had asked for kryptonite!!! She advised me that nobody had ever asked for a morning paper before & she wasn’t sure if she could get one!!! The room was freezing when I arrived but I turned on a radiator & it soon warmed up. Also to be fair the bed was comfy & bathroom spotlessly clean.

My partner and I stayed for two nights on a B&B basis. Overall we were very happy with our choice. The hotel was of a good standard, the staff were very friendly and our room was first class. We ate breakfast in the hotel and the this was very good. However we did notice that the tableclothes had food stains on them and had obviously been left on the tables from the night before. Although WiFi is supposedly available throughout the hotel, it did not work in our room and we were told the that it would be sorted. However the Manager advised us, after the event, that the problem was caused by the broadband provider. These minor problems did not detract from a pleasant stay.

I had the duck and my husband the steak. Both were cooked to perfection and well presented. Would have been nice to have been offered bread and had to ask for water.

Stayed at the millgate for two nights. The Hotel is in an excellent position for central newark, Staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The decor is a little outdated and is ready for some tlc, but dont let this put you off. Had one meal in the resturant and food is very good for a small hotel.

The Bar and restuarant are housed in 'The Orangery' a lovely bright conservatory. The food was simple, ample and good value. Not fine dining though. Well stocked bar, with a wide range of whiskey.

On a Saturday afternoon we approached the Queens Head, there was a couple of do as you Likeys stood with another couple sat on a pony and trap being loud and swearing at each other. We entered the pub and on ordering the bar maid had trouble with the barrels of each drink ordered! Then from the back came a crowd of pikeys swearing and shouting at each other and on about their sex lives. The barmaid knew them by name so they must have been regulars. Then the two we had seen standing outside came in loud abusive. We only stayed for the one drink and went off and found a pub with better clientell within

The Sunday lunch was good; cheap prices but good quality. The meat was very thin but you would expect that for £16. The restaurant wasn’t the nicest, uncomfortable and stained chairs. The service was good though and so was the sweet potato puree!
