Food good presentation could have been better, service excellent waitresses very good helpful and knowledgeable. My portion far too much mash which could have been presented better rather than plonked on plate. Would we come again yes because food locally sourced just needs fine tuning on the food. Hopefully this will be acknowledged as feedback and not criticism

This is a lovely olde world pub. Sadly the food we had was 'less than average'. We ordered chilli and cheese jacket potato and 2 x broccoli & Stilton soup with croutons and bread. About 50 mins after placing the order we were told there wasn't any chilli available and only beef brisket or pork. Our friend chose the beef brisket to go with the jacket potato. In total it took an hour to arrive. We had to ask for cutlery and then ask for serviettes ( only 2 serviettes given for 3 pe) The soup had clearly been microwaved(there was an encrusted ridge of soup high above the contents) but was only lukewarm. We sent the soups back. They duly arrived back hotter. A couple of the croutons were inedible due to being so tough like plastic. Can I assume they weren't removed from the soup prior to being 'pinged' again? The jacket potato was very small and gad been microwaved. Our friend struggled to cut the skin in places due to it being so tough. He said the beef was nice. When the server asked whether everything was OK, I explained all the above to her and i described it as 'less than average'. When it came to pay, yet again I reiterated how unhappy we were with the overall experience..food, length it took to arrive, cold, pinged a couple if times, inedible croutons, no cutlery, no serviettes etc etc and yet again described it as 'less than average '. The small jacket potato was £12 and we were charged an extra £1 for cheese that wasn't there(I didn't notice it on the bill until later) and £6 each for the soups. Not impressed at all. We will not return! I would also like to add that they were NOT busy! There were only 2 other customers eating at the time!

The Royal Oak gave us a wonderful Sunday lunch enjoyed by all the family. The meats were plentiful with an excellent variety of vegetables to accompany the meal. The only quibble we had was the manager sitting behind us sorting things out with a loud voice which we thought was inappropriate. Despite this we would recommend Royal Oak

We had broken down nearby on our way to the coast. We got to the pub car park to ask where the nearest garage would be. The chap we met first who turned out to be the landlord was very helpful. He made a couple of calls and we had a mechanic with us within 30 mins. We had a few drinks whilst waiting to sort things out and get parts, both landlord / lady were very friendly and helpful. Just want to say a big thank you for helping us it made a stressful situation a lot better. thank you

We came in for the pie and pint night, before we had even gotten our drinks we were passed between two members of staff. We asked to see a menu and were told that’s fine as they only had one other table. When I enquired about a vegetarian option for the deal I was told there wasn’t one and so I asked for a normal menu. We then proceeded to find our own seats as the bar man had to serve someone else. That’s all fine. We went to sit at a table in the bar and then proceeded to order and pay at the bar before the food got here. The food came quickly, with a young girl walking around the bar asking everyone if the food was for them before she got to us (we at this point were the only people eating) the food came and looked fine, the pie from a local vendor I was told was lovely. However I had ordered the veggie burger and it was as if I was chewing cardboard. I would have gladly told a member of staff but not once did anyone come to our table to check on us throughout the whole meal. I ended up leaving the burger but ate the chips that came with it. I understand vegetarian food is hard and I would not have minded or even reviewed if a member of staff had come and checked on our table. When we were leaving the poor bar man was once again on his own as another member of staff was stood at the bar eating and the others looked to be in a meeting. I do hope this doesn’t become a pattern, I am more than willing to come back once the staff have had sufficient training.

We stuck our head in as been told it it’s new management company and there was music. Knowing the history of this venue of late and the farcical that’s been running we was pleasantly surprised. Frankie the new landlord was inviting, encouraging and very welcoming for a man that stands at 6ft plus !! What an atmosphere that’s all we can say as it’s been lacking this for a long time ! So we are converted and will be returning as this is what a pub a should be

The pub looks great (although in fairness it looked ok before!) and the ‘dining room’ is now more of a cosy comfortable room with a piano, armchairs and a settee but sadly this cuts down on the dining tables and the few that are left are mostly wedged in so that once you’re in, you won’t be moving. Except you have to struggle back up again - because the table service has gone and you now have to order and pay for your food at the bar. I really hate paying for my food before I’ve even tasted it and when there’s a group of you out for a meal it’s much easier to have a tab and settle up at the end of the meal Instead of having to squeeze in and out from the table to get another drink. We went with vegan friends who were keen to try the menu - however they were distinctly underwhelmed by the vegan sausage and mash (dry sausage) and vegan burger (also dry) and they felt the vegan offerings were uninspiring, merely copying the meat versions. It’s a small menu and quite odd, with a ‘sharing plate’ that consists of a sausage roll and a piece of cheese with chutney.. a vegan club sandwich and a fish goujon sandwich. Great for a lunchtime menu but not the sort of ‘meal’ I want on a ‘night out’! And the pub isn’t open at lunchtimes so the menu was confusing. My husband had the pie with chips. The pie looked delicious and tasted good but the chips looked as if they’d been soaked in engine oil for days - they were so dark they were virtually black. IMO chips should be golden, and having seen them on other peoples plates this put me off completely. The menu would have to improve dramatically before I’m tempted back, it’s almost as if they don’t really want to be serving food which is possibly why the dining tables have been taken out. It is supposed to be village community pub but it just felt like it was trying too hard to be a trendy town centre bar.

We walk miles around the area of Collingham as we live locally and often find ourselves close by. After a ten mile stroll we were desperately in need of a sit down and a drink to prepare for the return journey. The pub is very comfortable, clean, tidy and welcoming. Had we not eaten earlier we would certainly have sampled the food on offer. Instead, we had a couple of drinks, relaxed and enjoyed the rest stop. Lovely pub and we'll return for lunch.

The food was good and reasonably priced but the seating in the restaurant area was a joke. Most of the tables were beer barrels with stools which meant you had to straddle the barrel to get close to your food. There wasn't enough room to fit our plates and drinks on and the waitress looked embarrassed when trying to put the food down. There's plenty of room to put proper tables in. Barrels are ok for just drinks and crisps but not for a sit down meal.

Christmas Day lunch with family. A very warm & festive welcome from all the staff, & complimentary Prosecco on our table. Our starters were tasty, especially the herby beetroot & cheese terrine with Melba toast! The main courses (turkey roulade & 1 of us had sea bass) were generous, as were the separately served vegetables-all cooked just as we like. The cinnamon & apple crème brûlée tempted us from the other dessert choices of poached pears or Christmas pudding, but did not disappoint! All in all the waiting & kitchen staff provided a brilliant Christmas lunch experience. Many thanks to them all 🥰

Took the wife and dog for our annual Christmas Eve lunch here and from start to finish, we loved this place. We were seated near the fire and the guys immediately came over to show our Pepé a whole load of love, which, by his waggy tail, was definitely reciprocated! The reduced menu still had loads to offer us both, but we both ended up going for the pie - I'm happy to make the claim this is the best pie for miles around. Soft pastry, no gristle in the meat, thick gravy. Absolutely spot on. We both polished that off gleefully (Pepé enjoying a chip or two as well) and moved onto a properly decadent brownie and chocolate/coconut tart respectively, all washed down with one of their wide selection of drinks. The owner (sorry we didn't get her name) told us of the redecoration she had done to the place and while I can't compare it to how it was, it is now a modern village pub that caters for everyone, whether it's for a quiet drink after a walk or a full family lunch. All of the staff are really friendly and attentive and have a real working connection to one another. This place really can't be spoken of highly enough. We look forward to coming back in the new year!

The first disappointment was the poor choice of meals. They advertise a small menu from Monday to Wednesday and more choices from Thursday. We were only offered the Monday menu despite it being a Thursday. We both opted for fish and chips because the only other option for a real meal was burger and chips. The fish was OK but the chips were burnt and VERY greasy. When the waitress asked if everything was OK, I said that chips were greasy and that I was disappointed. To be fair they deducted my chips from the bill (but not my brother's). I won't be eating there again

We called in for a drink with a party of 6 on Saturday night, we were greeted by a group of uniformed very young staff looking like they had come straight from school, we stood at the bar waiting to be served while they finished there conversations, a young lad asked what we would like and started typing the order onto a tablet which was very slow and no drinks were being pulled while he did this even though there were several staff doing nothing. When he did finally start pulling some real ale it was just froth "sorry he said its been like this for a week" we cancelled that order and asked for 3 pints of the other real ale after several tries this to was just froth "I think its gone he said" so we ended up with 3 pints of keg. It took a long time to complete the order even though the pub was empty. On a previous visit the bar was vibrant and busy with more mature staff who had a zing about them , last nights staff were totally untrained but willing which was a shame. On our second round taken at the table a youngster brought the drinks but left the table full of empty glasses and we had to call him back. On the third round a gin was served in a beer glass and when the manager asked the staff to replace it it came in a whisky glass, at this point he gave my friend the extra gin free and apologized. The Royal Oak is a lovely pub nicely decorated with great out door space but has a serious staff problem it seems a case of quantity of untrained minimum wage staff over proper bar staff. I do not blame the very young staff smartly dressed as they were but the management. If the bar had been busy it would have had a serious problem,I wonder whether covid has had a bad effect or the bad service was to blame for lack of customers but it needs addressing.

This is a tricky one to review, they are close to having a really good review but just a few thing make them average. Cutlery arriving after the food, potato & veg sides cold in the middle so obviously microwaved. Prices fairly reasonable. Having read the neg reviews we thought twice whether to order food from the Royal Oak. But we had made our mind to indulge in some take away pizzas, so went ahead. Apart from having no mushrooms, which is ridiculous when 5 minutes from a co op, the food was average. Whilst supporting local businesses is important for everyone who wants to have a pub close by, and being the last pub standing in Collingham it should be a slam dunk success.... at £45 for three modest pizzas and a garlic bread is ridiculous. Sorry but as things stand we won’t be indulging again unless things change.. Hopefully somebody will read the many negative reviews and make some changes.

I've been here a few times since the end of lockdown as a new local resident. We visited pre-lockdown when we were house-hunting and absolutely loved it; the food was amazing! We've been back a few times since and had mixed experiences, unfortunately on the whole they haven't been great, but we're keen to help it improve as we are a bit starved for pubs now.The theme is the menu (which I believe is getting rectified), the service, and the cost. The menu has been limited for a while, which is clearly frustrating to say the least. You frequently have to rely on Facebook to understand what is actually on offer when you go. The pizzas that have been on offer throughout have been really nice, but massively expensive. We only re-visited when we saw that they were 2 4 1 a couple of weeks ago - we refuse to pay something around the £27/28 mark for two small(ish) pizzas. When we ate here last year the food was gorgeous, would be great to see it get back there again. The service is probably the most frustrating part of the pub. Most (not all, one tall lad who is very very good) of the young staff are not particularly attentive, and some casually sit around outside when not much is going on. I get that if there isn't anything to do, then fine, but don't do it in front of other customers. Also doesn't look great when they're clearly chilling with their friends who are visiting the pub. This really needs sorting, and I echo the other concerns out there about getting this pub back to where it has been, and should be. We'll be back to try the new evening menu soon hopefully so will report back then!Sort the menu, sort the service, and be cautious with the prices, otherwise I fear for the future.

This meant half the meal turned up and we had a further 10 min wait for pizzas to arrive. These were rushed and half cooked. To be fair the cook came out to apologise and offer a free round bit nothing was followed up. Even the bill was wrong ♂️. The manager came over but we still eating so asked him to come back after. Don’t be put off by the poor reviews on here. I appreciate there may have been some teething problems with staff seemingly standing around chatting to each other while tables should’ve been cleared or orders taken, but I think this matter has been addressed now and the same staff seem to respond well to a friendly word and a smile which I find goes a long way! We’ve visited at various times during the day/evening as well as using the takeaway service (which was very hit and miss) but with the new chef in place (albeit temporarily) the food has vastly improved. I would like to see a ‘house wine’ for those of us who aren’t connoisseurs but who enjoy a bottle of cheap plonk to unwind with after work. I don’t want to take friends out for a meal and pick up the tab for wine at £30 a bottle. It’s a village pub and given the great selection of supermarket wine at £8/£10 a bottle there should be a very drinkable wine available for around the £14 mark. The Royal Oak is my local and as a community pub, I’d like to see it do well.

We moved to Collingham during lockdown and we were really looking forward to our local community pub re-opening. I had heard numerous good reports from the residents of the village, so I was both disappointed and somewhat surprised by what we experienced on our first visit. When we arrived nobody seemed to know where our table was. We were very disappointed with the limited menu choices (more in keeping with a café than a country pub), and the wine list just doesn't complement the menu options. We ordered Fish and Chips and both were overcooked and we had a pool of chip fat on our plates which put us off from the start. We complained about the chips and were bought a couple of bowls of fresher chips, however they were still overcooked. The owners really need to act quickly to arrest the decline of this lovely pub before it's too late. I'm not sure what has changed recently, but something definitely has.

I have been a regular visitor to the Royal Oak since its refurbishment and evolution into a genuine community pub. Prior to lockdown, and under previous management, it was first class in all respects, but now.........oh dear.A new (invisible) manager, new untrained, and worse still rude serving staff, and overpriced and poor quality food. Allegedly the manager likes to be blame the whole world apart from himself for the decline in standards, and isn't reluctant to express this opinion to anyone who cares to listen. The management committee need to get a grip, and get this sorted before further damage is done.. Perhaps bringing in some new blood onto the closed committee would be a good start.

Not good for a new local pub and all the staff are young , you need at least the manager to be downstairs to oversee the problems . Such a shame when it can be a great place for the local community !

Expectations were therefore high for when we revisited.Move forward to May, and, unbeknown to us, it appears new management are on board. I can only echo the other negative reviews that have recently emerged. Our Sunday Roast consisted of one slice of beef, 2 potatoes, a Yorkshire Pudding and some carrots. No other vegetables, no horseradish, no other choice of meat; we even had to wait for the cutlery! The food was cold by the time we finished. We decided against a dessert, paid our bill, and left. There is really little more to add. I am prepared to give 2 stars based on the quality of the beer and the fact we sat in the sun in pleasant surroundings. Sadly we will not be returning which is such a shame....bring back Stuart!

I sent this message via email to the manager, to which I have not received a reply. Had the manager replied and apologised I would not have posted this review. I agree with some of the recent comments about the service, it looks like the place is going down hill.Last Thursday we had lunch with friends who we haven't seen in a good while and we were extolling the virtues of The Royal Oak in Collingham. On Friday we visited the local garden centre and thought we would drop in to The Royal Oak in Collingham for a light lunch. baguette would be sufficient. The beef and horseradish plus salad was acceptable (apart from the 'baguette' was hardy artisan). My 'baguette' and ham with chips were a cheap and nasty insult. The 'baguette' and ham looked like in the kitchen junior had been sent up to the Co-Op to buy some 'torpedoes' and a packet of breaded ham (hardly what we expected given the standard of the food we have been served in the past). The bread, hardly a 'baguette', was smeared with some cheap and nasty substance. To say we were disappointed is a bit of an understatement. The staff should be trained up properly on how to serve customers, "No worries" hardly cuts it. And propping up the bar whilst tables are littered with empty glasses and plates underlines the need to get a grip on the jobI'm not sure we will be rushing back for a quick bite any time soon.

Having called into The Royal Oak as we were passing, we were shown through to the outside garden which was lovely. We chose drinks, a pint of beer for my husband and a small glass of red for me. As the weather was lovely we decided to order food too. The food arrived and was absolutely delicious. The service by both young men was again second to none. We asked for the bill and were stunned to see that a small 125ml glass of red wine had cost us £8.50!!!! we queried this with the waiter who informed us that this was correct. As someone who drinks red wine frequently whilst socialising I found this very difficult to believe. This surely would make a large glass of red 250ml £17.00!!!Whilst I appreciate pubs have been struggling during lock down, these prices will not help custom, in fact it may keep people away, which is such a shame as the food and service was exemplary. We have emailed the manager of the pub to see if there had been a mistake, however we are yet to hear back from them.

This was our first visit here at the Royal Oak and we were very disappointed with the service and the meal. When our meals arrived We were asked if there was ‘anything else we required’ and our response was “cutlery, would be good”.The chunky fries and side salad were great! My partners lamb was slimy and chewy. I had opted for the sirloin at £21 as I’m not keen on fatty steaks, and I’m happy to pay for a good of cut of meat. Part of the steak was covered by the salad and fries. As I cut the first slice it was a little grisly but the next couple of slices were good. When I moved the salad and fries I could see I’d eaten the best bits. When we were asked did we enjoy the meal we explained what was wrong with the meal and our dissatisfaction and the response was ‘sorry to hear that’....I’m sorry I ever booked this restaurant and paid £76 for a very poor service and meal.

What can I say. Dom the chef has absolutely blown us away with the food again. A regular visitor I opted for the new promotion of fish and chips and wow. Absolutely fantastic. The batter on the fish was phenomenal, not wet and soggy like most places. The chips were chunky and tasty and the peas were minted to perfection. Recently had Sunday lunch and once again it was absolutely phenomenal. Stewart the pub manager and his team are phenomenal. Accommodating with every request. Fantastic staff. Fantastic location. Fantastic food.

We’ve been coming here for a year now, besides the closure period. Staff are super welcoming and attentive. They have an excellent, safe system going here too since reopening, so besides the obvious, having food or drink here feels completely normal and relaxed. Drinks choice is good and reasonably priced. The food is tasty and has a nice menu. We had the dreaded crab tonight. Was really lovely.Parmesan and truffle chips are possibly also the best pub chips I’ve ever tasted and we often have those as a snack to share with a drink. Lovely beer garden for good weather days. It’s become one of our favourite local places to go on a Saturday afternoon.

Visited for an evening meal. Excellent covid precautions in place with sign in, one way system and screens between tables. Staff welcoming, drinks served quickly but we waited almost an hour for our food. Restaurant not at all busy and table that arrived after us received food before us. We ordered gammon, egg and chips which was ok, plus two pizzas which were not so good. Lots of cheese but other toppings sparse.

We went for food for the eat out to help out and had some really tasty pizzas and biscoff ice-cream which was beautiful. The beer garden is lovely and has a canopy so even with a bit of a shower you can still sit outside when warm. They have plenty of safety measures inside the pub though too such as one way system and plastic screens near tables.

Called in on Saturday night with friends for the first time, what a find the place was buzzing and a great atmosphere. Totally refitted with lovely furniture and decor. A great selection of beers and drinks and a great beer garden. Situated right in the heart of a gorgeous English Village. We only had drinks but the restaurant was as packed as the pub with families. With enough cheerful staff to cope service was excellent and quick. A nice change from the normal town pubs and great for a summers afternoon.

Visited here as a group of 3 Saturday night. From the moment we walked through the door we were acknowledged and greeted with a warm friendly welcome. We grabbed a couple of drinks and sat in the bar with a few of the lovely locals and looked through the menus. (The watermelon gin and lemonade is amazing) Stewart the front of house manager came over and took our order he was very chatty and friendly and made sure we was looked after throughout the evening. To start I had the smoked haddock scotch egg this was fabulous, full of flavour and the egg cooked perfectly. To follow I had the steak frites again this was perfect the steak was cooked to perfection and was mouth watering! One of the best steaks I’ve had. I especially loved the garlic butter that was on top of the steak! After mains we was very full but managed to squeeze a pudding in of course, I had the baileys creme brûlée served with shortbread again this was amazing! Throughout the whole meal the service was great, although the restaurant was full we didn’t wait any longer for food or drinks. George and his team in the kitchen are doing such a great job and Stewart and his team out front have service to a T. The whole evening was faultless. We can’t wait to return for another great evening of food and drinks :) Thank you for looking after us! (Be sure to book they are very popular!)

We have visited twice since the Oak re-opened in August. Very creative menu and something for everyone, children, vegetarian, carb-free, etc. We had the venison which was superb and we understand most meat is supplied from local Collingham butcher. Decor good, and decoration highlights the pub’s history well. Only one criticism, the main dining is very resonant and could be difficult to accommodate those hard of hearing. One or two tall plants would help “soften” this in many ways; reduce noise level in a large space, make the area easier on the eye and create, possibly, more intimate areas for diners —- alcove type dining. But sure all this will considered. Menu magnificent, clearly a good quality chef in the back! And service very good from the several staff who never seem to stop work. Well done Stewart and team. Myself and my family bought my mommar here for her 89th birthday, on the night there was a big party before us so the service was slightly slower but fair play to the staff and the manager they were so attentive and kept giving us updates on the food. They brought us bread to break up the wait and kept us fully stocked on drinks. The manager and staff were nothing but amazing. We explained that my mommar would have a frame and they put us on a table close to the door so she didn’t have far to walk. They also sang happy birthday to her with a candle on her pudding. Such a lovely environment, I would recommend to anybody! Myself and my mum will be visiting again later this week! Thank you for making my mommars birthday very special and such an enjoyable night.

My husband and myself thought we would give The Royal Oak a try for our anniversary meal as we had heard that they had a new chef. And we certainly weren't disappointed the food was absolutely amazing. I had prawn cocktail to start and my husband had the smoked duck, both were absolutely lovely. For mains my husband had Sea Bass and I had the Classic royal burger and both were delicious. My husband said he had never had sea bass taste as good as this and my burger was delicious, it came with chips and onion rings. My husband had chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding for dessert, I couldn't manage dessert as I was too full but I did have a little taste and wow it tasted amazing. The staff were lovely and attentive throughout our meal without being over attentive. We will definitely be returning.

I had recently been informed that a new head chef had taken over the kitchen here last week, so thought I would give it a go and try out the new menu. My sister and myself went to eat on Saturday evening, it was fairly busy so would recommend booking. We were given a warm welcome on arrival and offered drinks at the bar, they have a fantastic range of gins! We then went over to the table and looked through menus. All the dishes sounded fantastic and it made for a difficult decision. In the end I went for the chicken satay skewers and peanut dipping sauce for a starter and the braised lamb shoulder for my main... WOW, both were absolutely amazing, I don’t think I have ever been so full up, however I still managed to squeeze in the crumble for dessert, delicious! After the meal we had, The Royal Oak is now our favourite place to eat! I look forward to returning again!

Lovely decor and atmosphere in the bar with a good garden area too. Nice choice of wines and beers at gastro style pub prices. Booked a table for the evening meal. The service was great but food we felt was a little more average. I had steak and chips which were fine - partner had the lamb Wellington which turned out to be a lamb shank wrapped in pastry. Lamb was dry and very over cooked served with a few carrots and mashed potatoe. Felt the tile of the dish was misleading and a bit disappointing

This evening I was coming home from school and I said to my dad I fancy going to the Royal Oak. it was my first time here, I came and sat by the fire, got a quick drink then the staff kindly took us to our table to eat. I had a margarita pizza and my Dad had the rump steak. The margarita pizza didn't come with chips but Rebeca let me have some, it was a choice between chunky or thin i went for chunky when we got our meal we hungrily tucked in when we had finished we both agreed that the meal was delicious. We had a nice chat with quite a few of the staff. We then ordered pudding, I had a fruit crumble and my dad had chocolate asciet. The rest rooms were immaculate and the service was great. The 24 line dancers from nearby Winthorpe decided to give the newly refurbished pub/restaurant a chance. It was immediately obvious that the seating arrangements for us all was not ideal. Every one was pushed into the area at the bottom of the restaurant area. Which made it difficult for staff to serve the plated up meals. And also made it difficult for any dinners to get out for toilets or bar. No other dinners where present in the rest of the restaurant during our stay. When served no one asked if anything else was required eg. Sauces, chutney, etc. Some of the meals where a long time coming.Which made it embarrassing as all of us expected to eat together. One lady sent her steak back twice. once because it was scorched/burnt and second time because it was rare. She final have up on it as everyone else has finished their meals. Another lady waited aged for her Hake meal. Which finished up as just fish and chips. Nothing like the other Hake meals other dinners had had. One real concern above all was that not one staff member came to ask if everything was ok to anyone in the party. My meal of chicken pie was nice but the portion size was very small with a very small amount of mash potatoes; but more like powdered potatoes than the real thing.

Went here today as a couple, thought we would try the Sunday roast....nice food but won't go back, I don't think, not for Sunday roast anyway, may try a meal on a Fri or sat to see what it's like then, but....today was an overpriced beef dinner, about 4 carrots between us, no mash, and liquid gravy! When plates were collected not even asked if wanted another drink or even desert!! Think I'll give Sunday roast a swerve next time I'm looking....rather go back to Grey horse

We found the choice very limited (think the menu has been changed now though). Food was very tasty. We did think the price of the food was generally expensive. We both had the Crème Brule for desert and although tasty we thought the presentation of the desert was quite off putting! Photo attached and priced at £8.00, quite expensive.

Nice atmosphere though no cozy 'by the fire' chairs (maybe will change in the winter), lovely outdoor seating, staff still needs a bit more training but they were very pleasant. The menu and the prices need quite a bit of tweaking....really? 2.50 extra for salad dressing?? As for the food, the burger was huge but overcooked, the fries were not crisp (neither skinny or thick ones) and the sea bass was fresh and tasty but the skin should have been crisped and did not look appealing on the oversized plate. The salad was amazing! Best thing of the night. We were sorry the lamb was gone...anxious to try that next time and the pizza as well. The dessert of a taste of 3 items was a nice idea but only the ice cream was outstanding. I've heard a restaurant needs weeks if not months to settle in to it's setting so yes, we will be back and hope for a better result.

Staying in the area for a week and always like to try the local village pub. This one has to be one of the best, especially for food. Had lunch on Saturday absolutely amazing pork belly tapas with fries plus mac n cheese and went back the same evening for specialty burger plus a grilled garlic chicken all things worthy of a 10 out of 10 some of the best food ever tasted. Add to that very reasonable prices lovely staff friendly locals and impeccably clean toilets. Wish this pub was in our home town

We stayed at the hotel for two nights to attend a family wedding. The hotel is in the centre of Southwell. It has very nice outdoor seating. We ate on the terrace on the first night and the food was very good. It is a very old building so very traditional. Staff service was superb at all times. The wedding was very well organised. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated with a nice bathroom. There is plenty of parking behind the hotel. The points I would make for improvement are :- 1. It was incredibly difficult to book once the wedding couple had requested that rooms should be reserved for the wedding party. This just wasn’t possible by telephone and I ended up writing a letter to request a booking. 2. The top floor rooms were very hot. A fan was provided which was very effective but it was puzzling that the corridor was cool and the rooms were hot. We had to have the fan on most of the time 3. The wedding meal service was a little bit slow. Each guest had a card at the place setting with their chosen dishes and I wonder if the managers could speed up the service by having the dishes listed on the card colour coded? However, we had a really nice stay in a beautiful location. I would definitely stay again and I would recommend the hotel to others looking for a great location for a wedding or other event.
