An excellent lunch for a Ramblers group. I enjoyed a small roast dinner. The beef was a super portion and utterly delicious! Everyone in the group was pleased with their meal. Lovely.

Ate here for the first time. Food was generally ok. Unfortunately the service really lets the place down. We had booked a table but we’re not seen to so decided to sit ourselves down. Eventually we were handed over some menus. Orders were taken about 20 mins later where we were told various things were not available. There was no atmosphere and only 3 tables taken. Food was ok from what was available but we won’t be going back.

This is a nice old style pub which has a set menu sunday dinner between 12 and 17.00. You can have either 1 course 2 course or 3 curse with the most expensive being £20.95. The food llooks lively but thats where it ends.the tastes are underwhelming, and some are strange.the brie and tomato tart is tiny and tastes like a basic quiche the soup of the day which was vegetable was nice though.the chicken dinner should have had stuffing with it but aparanetly there was delivery issues (could have got this from anywhere.) The lamb was cooked well but lacked taste and seasoning. The mint sauce reminded me of toothpaste.the roast potatoes are new potatoes but have no crispness or real decent flavour.the red cabbage is soggy with a sweet taste and doesnt go with the gravy and other veg.service is good but it is small and gets quite full and very warm in there. It seemed more of a locals place where its popular as everyone knows each other or cnat be bothered to drive out for lunch.all in all not somewhere i would go again.p.s the car park fits about 3 cars in it.

This is the first time for me and for my family they visited 20 years ago. Why oh why have we not visited this before food excellent, in choice, value and content. My position previously was a assessor of hotel and catering, my only concern was only two staff working in the bar and a very busy restaurant, one table of 13 who ordered separately and paid separately, one staff dealing with this and running back into the restaurant. I noticed a staff member called Lesley or Kelly, she was excellent, rushed off her feel, however gave recommendations and specials. We will return, but just hope the poor staff get some more support from the management. Anna Lailey de Ville Cert Ed Assessor A1

Not sure what happened, usually a good choice, but we pre ordered for 1pm as there was 11 of us, and only get an hour for lunch , not our first visit and its never been an issue before, but we arrived at 12.50pm and didnt see our food until 1.45pm . Saw ourselves to the table . Wasn't too busy , no interaction at all from the waitress, until we asked where our food was. Food was fairly good, as usual, but just a shame we didnt have time to enjoy it . On paying the bill I did ask what the issue was but there was no comment and not even an apology. Shame because this was not usual and we enjoyed our times here

Absolutely delicious! I had the CPC burger and it was so good, cheese perfectly melted, beef perfectly seasoned and yummy salad dressing. My mum loved her chicken and mushroom pie, she was a massive fan of the mash especially. We come from a family that is very particular about our bread and butter pudding and have our own family recipe, and in my mums words “almost as good as our own” which I can’t tell you how much of a compliment that is ahaha.

This is all included plus a drink each. Have a dessert, they are worth it. Amazing value, very friendly service and full of original features.

First time trying this pub after being recommended. When we arrived I asked for 2 high chairs but was told they only had 1 available, annoying but we made it work. Service was slow, we ordered drinks & food at the same time. I asked for the children’s food to come out with the starters, this didn’t happen. We had soup to start, served with a bread roll but no butter. Starters were nice. Mains came out, no children’s meals, asked and was told no children’s meals were ordered, we definitely did. The lady then went back and said yes but the ticket was all messed up so they got missed. I had roast beef, it was so tough, the roast potatoes were not crispy but dry and burnt. I did tell the staff I didn’t like my meal when they came to check on everything, they offered to change it but I declined. They did take my meal off the final bill. Puddings were lovely & nicely presented. I think this could be an excellent pub, but things need improving.

We went there as a group of about 20. We had given our orders in advance but the service was appalling. Had to wait a really long time for each course. Food was passable. The cold dessert was brought out on hot plates and most people had finished theirs before their companions was brought out. After waiting for ages we had to remind them that we had ordered tea and coffee. This was brought out one at a time and most people had left by the time the last one was served. There only seemed to be 2 young kids looking after everything. It was also very cold in the room.

Oh, how I wish all pubs were like this. All was excellent from the moment we walked in (late). The service was superb throughout, with smiling, helpful and knowledgeable staff. We were served at a good pace, neither rushed nor waiting overlong, and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. And then, of course, there is the food. This was roast at its best, everything cooked well and a lovely variety of vegetables. I know of many other pubs that would benefit from coming to visit the Griffin and learn how to run a pub restaurant. The desserts were equally as good. This was an excellent value meal and for us, a great find. We will be back soon - only this time we will endeavour to arrive on time. A heartfelt thank you all round.

However we came for the tapas night and it was so different which was a shame. Its definitely not tapas food, didn't taste great and therefore was very disappointing. I was so disappointed by my experience. It was a family reunion for my daughter returning from Vietnam on a brief visit. I even came for a meal a week ago to check out the venue and although the service was slow at times the food was fine. However our family meal was awful only tapas and steak although we thought we were coming to a full menu. The tapas menu was inedible in parts and I need to stress we are not fussy eaters. The steaks were mixed up and not cooked as requested. The service was lovely people, but again inadequate, no condiments brought, sauces requested brought near the end of the meal , food brought out over a lengthy period, wine glasses not brought, drinks requested never arrived. I booked the venue to create memories and I was so upset having to apologise to my family and paying a bill for food that was not up to standard.

Not impressed by the quality of the food, very disappointed with the overall experience. Where do I start…rock hard veg, chewy roast potatoes or being told as whilst being seated that we have until 1:50pm to eat up and leave as they need the table, even after we’d BOOKED a week prior for that table. We booked here as the reviews were so good, but they must be written by others who have never ever had a roast dinner before or are people who can’t cook because ANYONE could have done better than what was served on Sunday. I understand the staff are busy, but don’t tell us that we need to be up and out ASAP then leave us when we’re ready to pay the bill and the head Waitress/floor manager fails to mention that we had to pay at the bar. Also whilst on the subject of the floor manager/head waitress, when I asked about the two choices of cuts of beef she had no clue FULL STOP. She had no knowledge of the food they were trying to serve. Simple solution she could’ve said give me a moment I’ll ask the chef, just very lacking in customer service unfortunately. To top off this was NOT a cheap meal. All in all, not great was very disappointed. Wouldn’t return anytime soon, especially not for food.

Lovely evening meal with friends. All the dishes we had tasted delicious. I enjoyed the Brie & pancetta croquettes for starter. The venison dish for main was so tasty. A bit more side veg would have been nice. Finished off with a yummy sticky toffee pudding. Thank you

I've been here once for lunch and once for a party in the private function room in the past couple of weeks. Both times, the food, service and atmosphere has been fabulous. Great value, great beer and a proper country pub.

Very Good Food at reasonable price. Ample servings. Try the Pies wit Gravy. Very delicious I will definitely be back again in the future.

An empty pub has little atmosphere. The meal was disappointing. My wife's fish was tasteless and dry. The batter was good though. The garden peas were overcooked. Chips were delicious but far too many. Not a great celebration of our 54th wedding anniversary!

First visited a while ago and was blown away by this place, hence the return. Still looks lovely, but the food was less than impressive. Steak tough, stringy & certainly not of previous quality. Oven baked jacket potato had thin sallow skin with watery only just cooked fleshand although the topping was tasty, it was conspicuous by its virtual absence. My expectation of an oven baked jacket is a crispy skin, fluffy interior pulled with a reasonably generous helping of filling - this just did not hit the brief. A shout out to the vegetable soup though, that was delicious! Staff member that served us - efficient, if a little abrupt. Good choice of drinks and dog friendly.
