The Windhover in Daventry

Eaten many a time here in the last 20 years and it is still a great place to eat and drink. Sunday lunch has changed over the years but still worth it in the main.

A fantastic evening for our weekly date night. We haven’t been to the windhover before but we’ll definitely be returning. Fred & Anya looked after us throughout the evening, really great service by both and the food was exceptional! We’ll be back for certain.

Best Roast dinners in Northampton! & great service too , my husband recieved a free bottle of prosecco as it was his Birthday. We will definitely be visiting regularly. Highly recommended .

The food we experienced here today really was sub-par.. The starter arrived and appeared to be a tasteless heated "Scotch egg" not freshly made but just heated up and quite unpleasant! Onto the main course which was unfortunately lukewarm. With a raw parsnip, the worst roast potatoes we've ever eaten and the most disgusting excuse for stuffing we'd ever seen or tried (this got sent back!). Fatty meat and a bill for £55 made this even more painful- we will not be returning. Avoid!!

Good Value for Money and welcoming place to have Lunch or Dinner

Food was good, I had rump steak which was nice however the chips were over cooked. My partner had the cod loin which was cooked perfectly. The biggest disappointment was the service, it was just really poor, despite it not being that busy. We waited ages for drinks orders and then they took ages to arrive dispite clearly seeing them sat out on the bar for several minutes. It also took quite a while for our plates to be collected. Just a shame that the service let good food down.

Had a lovely evening at this beautiful pub last night. Dinner was gorgeous and even thought the place was rammed, the service was excellent. All the team were attentive and our server Anya was wonderful. Really engaging and friendly. Love visiting this place. Highly recommend it if you fancy a lovely dinner with a cosy warm pub feel

The food was excellent but service was very slow today. Not enough staff on and I assume busy due to the discount they were offering for this week but still a great place to eat

We tried really hard to spend some money but the service was just horrendous. The waitress we had took forever to take our order, then took ages to bring it out. Didn’t see her again until we went looking so never got anymore drinks. Had to find someone else to ask to order dessert. It took 1/2 an hour for 3 kids ice creams to come out and then another ten minutes for the adults desserts. The crumble came out and the pan was sizzling it was so hot, needed to leave quickly at this point as we were now running late so thought to tip it out to cool quickly. Turned out there was no need as it was still chilled in the middle?! I don’t know how you do that bearing in mind how hot the dish was. Food - 2 stars Service - 1 star Nice looking pub though if that counts for anything.

Food was average, some meals had gone cold however they sorted them out and the lady doing our table service Penny was lovely, was very attentive and friendly.

Excellent meal for my birthday. Our waitress Phoebe looked after us fantastically well. Polite, professional and very helpful. Always a great meal.

Could not fault a single thing. The staff were really friendly, the food was extremely good and well priced. Had a great experience . Can highly recommend . Special thanks to Phoebe & Anya. And to all of the staff. Well done.

Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good selection of ales and wine. It's lovely to sit outside in the summer. Dog friendly. Always look forward to visiting here. I wish I lived closer.

The Windhover has gone through a bit of a transformation in the last few months I think. Had been underwhelmed when I last went a couple of years ago but have now been twice in a few weeks and both times the food was great, with a lovely selection. The service has been transformed ( I believe there is a new team running it ) and they make you feel really welcome. Plus it is lovely to have the open fire going now the weather is getting colder and the night's darker. Nice to be able to have it as my local now.

The food was good. Fireplace in the middle crackling away for a nice ambiance. The service was a little s low at times although helpful. Toilets upstairs. Good parking.

Lovely meal clean welcoming and good service will come again.

Had lunch today, the staff were really welcoming & friendly, Penny was great and really made us laugh. Meals were excellent.

Had a lovely lunch with my youngster daughter to celebrate my birthday and my daughter's 9th wedding anniversary ❤️. Very friendly staff and a good range of drinks and reasonably priced food. Carpark at the rear and easily accessible for disabled guests. The toilets 🚻 are upstairs , not sure where the disabled toilets were located.

Bree and Faith were our servers and they were amazing!! So friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. They helped us out with our dietary requirements. Food was great and fab value

We have not been here for quite a few years, We were very pleasantly surprised, the food was very good with decent sized portions, and very tasty. Staff were attentive and friendly. We will be coming back again soon.

After checking out the menu online and being excited to try the veggie Wellington, we visited on Sunday, 02/09/2024, for a roast dinner. When we asked for the veggie roast listed on the menu, we were informed that it was something entirely different involving seeds. We decided to go with it and requested an extra Yorkshire pudding, only to find out they were out of Yorkshires—something we wouldn’t have known if we hadn’t asked, which would’ve made for a disappointing meal. We ended up ordering something other than a roast. Unfortunately, when the alternatives arrived, they were cold, but we were too hungry to complain, so we ate them anyway and ordered desserts. The desserts, however, were disappointingly 'microwave chewy.' To top it all off, we both ended up with food poisoning the next day. This was, without a doubt, the worst meal we’ve had in Northampton.

A really nice place to go for a drink, lovely atmosphere, and if you happen to be at this neck of the woods, worth a visit.

Went with family of 4 on Saturday 13th July, it went from one disaster to another. It took ages for us to get someone to take our order, we waited even longer for our food to arrive. When it did arrive, 1 of the orders was incorrect. The correct food did turn up a couple of mins later as they had given us someone else’s food. The steak was fatty and tough, we complained to the manager who did offer another meal but we didn’t want to wait as the other 3 would have finished. Waited ages for the plates to be cleared and for them to ask if we wanted pudding. This arrived around 45 mins later. By the end of the evening, we asked for a coffee and thought we would get the bill at the same time as we would probably be waiting another hour. We were not asked once if the food was ok and yes they did take the steak off the bill but it was shocking service all round. I complained on the survey I was sent and did ask for them to call me but surprise surprise I’m still waiting

Lovely food. The cocktails were also very tasty. The pub itself has a modern but cosy feel, classy and clean. We finished our evening with coffees and mini desserts which were delightful. Definitely recommend. We were served by Josie, who was friendly and kind, served our food in a timely manner but we didn’t feel rushed at all. Will definitely be coming again!

Arrived and created by Kelcie was was extremely welcoming and really friendly. Kelcie also went through food menu as I have an allergy this was picked up from booking notes so very impressed. Food was also great will return.

Came on a Sunday, it was ok for a meal. However took a while to be served, my roast pork belly wasn't crispy as all on the top, and the biscuit with my creme brulee was meant to be a shortbread biscuit. It was a cheap sugar biscuit instead. Looks like it's gone down hill a little.

Beautiful pub and beautiful grounds. The decor is lovely. Dog friendly. Great place for drinks. Plently of parking. Food was ok, we were expecting something more considering the prices. I ordered a brisket sandwich and for the price was expecting a bit more especially from the bread.Staff also took sometime to finally get our order. But overall we liked we will back for drinks.

Top place on the Brampton Valley Way

Brunch is a hidden gem here, we had no idea it was served all week until a friend mentioned it! Overall experience was really good but the coffee was outstanding!! Easily the best coffee I’ve had in years!!

If you haven’t been for the breakfast you must! It’s been consistently gorgeous. And the beetroot hash! Oh. My. Word. The staff are amazing and you get such a warm welcome. Love it.

We visited The Windhover for lunch on 28th May as a party of 3; my wife, her aunt and myself. On arrival we were greeted by Nicole, who opened and held the door as I was bringing my wife's aunt in a wheelchair. Access around the bar and restaurant area was easy, with tables well-spaced and I was able to 'park' the chair without obstructing or inconveniencing other customers or staff. Service was prompt and Rebecca took our drinks order almost immediately. After that we were served by Nicole who was attentive, good-humoured and professional. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Portions were generous and everything was properly cooked and hot. Nicole checked on us a couple of times, being attentive but not intrusive. She 'introduced' me to the app, which I have since downloaded. This was an enjoyable experience in a clean, pleasant atmosphere with good food served by friendly, professional staff. We will be back. In fact we were back today, 7th July for Sunday lunch. Again, the food was of a very high standard, served well-cooked and hot. The Sirloin was lovely and plenty of vegetables accompanied it, along with delicious roast potatoes. We were looked after by the delightful Daisy, in the friendly and professional manner to which we have become accustomed here. It is good to note that the standards we have experienced during the week are maintained by different staff at the weekend. Despite the restaurant being very full, service was prompt and efficient. Full marks. I think it is worth booking in advance as this is clearly a popular weekend venue. As Google does not permit a second review, I'll add to this. My wife's Aunt is a resident in the nearby Care Home so we are frequent visitors as it is a short 'wheelchair push' to get here. We visited again today, 1st August 2024 and we received attentive, professional and friendly service from Rebecca and Nicole. The food was first rate, generous portions served hot from the extensive menu. Another enjoyable experience and great value for money.

Service was extremely slow (however, this isn't notmal as we've been here a hundred times before). I'm not sure if this was due to a large group. Either way, it was a long time before we received our food, but at least the food was extremely good and also great portions.

Nice food but at the expense of quantity. If you are a very small eater, you will love this place!!! If you are a big eater, avoid here like the plague!!! Even as medium eaters there was not enough food for us and all left feeling hungry. Restraurant promised so much, and the food was lovely, but when all of our small party (4) left hungry, there is a problem.

We often visit the Windhover restaurant in Northampton. Sometimes two or three times a month. We had a lovely meal yesterday (Monday) then went for lunch today. Brilliant service yesterday Fred the new manager served us very pleasant chap. Today we were served by Rebecca and Nicole. Absolutely fantastic very friendly nothing was too much trouble. Two of us had the 2 course set lunch menu, food was excellent, main course plentiful, price reasonable and Rebecca and Nicole looked after us and were very nice and attentive. We enjoyed our meal in the ambient surroundings .

Food is average and the service is ok, the waitress that served us was very good but she did seem to be working most tables.

We ordered and the wrong food was brought. Waited for 20 mins for replacement and no compensation offered at all. Not the first time we have had issues with food and services we won’t be back.

I won't be eating there again,ran out off most meals by 5pm on a Sunday afternoon. Decided to have fish,I couldn't eat it as it tasted rank...my son managed to eat his fish thinking it was just very fishy. He has been vomiting and other unpleasantness within 4 hours since eating there. Sorry yo say we will not be eating there again

Best vintage inns that I've been and I've been to at least 10 across the country. The food is step above the rest. I regularly travel 50 mins just to eat here. Very polite staff 10/10 food steak cooked to perfection and the halloumi fries are amazing.

Only one beer available, which was Doom Bar so we both had cider. Sat outside but was quite uncomfortable with the amount of swearing coming from the next table. Underwhelmed by the food. Quite expensive for what it was and the lamb was quite tough. Would normally have stayed for coffee but didn't bother.

I came in a few days ago and was served by this lovely woman called alannah, her service was amazing and she was very helpful and suggested what the best thing to get, the food was absolutely delicious. Would definitely go again

Quite good but there was quite a long wait for the food to come. Chicken Parma was good 9/10 Pan fried Lamb lovely flavour but meat slightly tough 6/10 Pork Belly - 8/10

Reasonably good pub, staff were nice enough but not enough of them.

Setting is beautiful with good walk for dogs right by the Windhover. Lots of outside seating which is lovely with or without a dog, trees for shade. Inside is very smart and comfortable, not crowded in and it was still cool despite it being a very hot day. Both bar and table staff were very polite and engaging, and service was prompt. We booked online which was really simple even for me. The food was of very good quality, portion size was good and everything was fresh and hot. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Bit pricey for Sunday dinner but was nice, had belly of pork with crackling but only one piece of crackling come and don't think it was from the same pork either, not to bad in waiting time and polite staff

I pre-booked a table for 8 several weeks before our visit, with it being Father’s Day. On arrival we were told that we had to sit in the bar area and would have to order our food and drinks as they could not provide table service (unsure as to why not). This was challenging, given that there were 8 of us, and took away enjoyment from the meal. The soup and another dish were out of stock, so we had to order alternatives. The food was slow to arrive, with the desert not arriving until over 2 hours after we arrived. Overall the experience was quite tedious and I feel this negatively affected the experience. I have visited the Windhover numerous times and have not been disappointed, but I am afraid to say that this occasion was particularly poor and we left feeling disheartened.

Nice friendly staff, attentive. Maybe more choice of non alcoholic beers. Food nicely presented, but have always found ( for me anyway) roast dinners always far too much food. My partner said the best tasting sea bass he had ever had. Such a great idea mini desserts with a coffee or drink of your choice. Always had a lovely meal at The Windhover. Thank you
