First visited a while ago and was blown away by this place, hence the return. Still looks lovely, but the food was less than impressive. Steak tough, stringy & certainly not of previous quality. Oven baked jacket potato had thin sallow skin with watery only just cooked fleshand although the topping was tasty, it was conspicuous by its virtual absence. My expectation of an oven baked jacket is a crispy skin, fluffy interior pulled with a reasonably generous helping of filling - this just did not hit the brief. A shout out to the vegetable soup though, that was delicious! Staff member that served us - efficient, if a little abrupt. Good choice of drinks and dog friendly.

Took my son out for lunch, the waitress gave us a great big smiley welcome and seated us in the dog friendly area. She also found us the allergens menu as my son can’t have sesame. We had the chicken burger and chips, fish and chips, and a side of onion rings which we soon demolished. Very, very good. We will definitely return.

Had a wonderful evening with my partner. Aesthetics of the place is lovely. I will be looking forward to spending time here in the summer next to the canal. I had the Camembert (starter) as a main as I love cheese. My partner had the risotto. Also shared sides of king prawns and green beans!! Superb! 👌

We went for Sunday dinner. We had beef and ordered the pigs in blanket and cauliflower cheese. The main meal was lacking veg, a couple of carrots & parsnips I feel was poor for a Sunday dinner. The beef was ok I like pink meat. The gravy was very thin needed more body. We had deserts the cheesecake was very good the Chocolate & Caramel fondant cake was dry and no caramel ousing out.

Booked a table for 6 as the Sunday dinner was served later than normal pubs. 4 of us had the Sunday dinner, other 2 had steak. The service was fantastic and the dinners were absolutely superb. The pork belly was still soft and the beef was full of flavour. Great value for money. Certainly be going back very soon. Thank you. Waiting staff couldn’t do enough.

Highly recommend this pub. The food was great and the service was impeccable! They really made us feel welcome from the minute we got to the door where we were warmly greeted by a young lady who then offered to take a photo of us on the bridge. (She obviously saw us oldies struggling to take a selfie). We were then tended to the minute we stepped in the door, shown to our table etc. The attentiveness of the staff was faultless.

We were on our first night of a week of canal cruising and the Admiral Nelson had been recommended to us by several people including the staff at Calcutt Boats. We had a bit of a wet walk in the rain but arrived at the pub and posed for a picture on the bridge. On approach to the side door we met Amy who gave us a friendly welcome and offered to take a picture of the 3 of us. She was a delight. The bar staff were equally friendly and helpful with a special mention to Danny and Molly and a good selection of cask ales were available. We had a drink before dinner and were offered the chance to peruse the menu in the bar area. One of the party ordered scampi which was enjoyed whilst two of us had the Sunday roast. Crispy roasties, thick sliced beef, veg and loads of gravy. Cauliflower and broccoli cheese as an extra. What a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is lovely, the food fabulous but the staff are without doubt the best attribute to the Admiral Nelson. Thanks for a great night.

Only had drinks but won't be returning Been visiting for 8-10 years and always enjoyed it. Especially the food. However today the staff seemed to be having a bad day 👎 Felt patronised at the bar. My husband didn't have a problem but when I went to the bar, I felt I shouldn't be in a pub. I was spoken to as if I didn't understand pubs, beers or how changing a barrel works. I worked in pubs for 20 years so I understand the workings behind the scene and I know the difference between good and bad customer service. My experience wasn't great, hence why we moved on and won't be back.

Just back from a Sunday lunch with friends and all 8 can say is what an improvement since last time we were there. The new owners have improved it enormously. We had the roast pork, roast beef and 'Nelson' roast which is a bit of both. Portions were generous to put it mildly! Suffice to say I'm not bothering with an evening meal. Food was well presented and delicious. The decor has also been redone and feels very homely and comfortable with nice touches in the decorations dotted about the place. For those who want a challenge they do an 80 oz (yes eighty ounce!) steak which if you can finish the whole meal you get for free. Staff are friendly, efficient and courteous. Location is right next to the canal and in summer it's an incredibly pleasant place to sit and watch narrow boats going up and down the canal through the lock. All in all top marks! Just been back tonight and we both had the 12oz rump steak. Have to say it was the equal of any steak I've had anywhere. Superb.

We visited here in June 2023. Then it was a great pub, friendly staff, comfortable and great Everard's Ales, but with an underwhelming menu. Today the menu was much improved and the quality was excellent. Great sea bass, superb (and large) sticky toffee pudding with real custard (the latter a rarity nowadays). Remains a lovely pub. Great real ales. Was extremely busy (we booked for a Friday at 6.30 pm) and staff were working really hard but remained cheerful, friendly and helpful. Service was prompt but at no time did we feel rushed.

Family dinner on a sunny sunday. First time here and won't be the last. Lovely pub right next to a canal lock, from the moment we walked in, all of the staff were really polite, helpful and welcoming. The tables were immaculate and the staff were somehow able to perfectly time clearing up empty plates during our meal at just the right moments to not interfere with our conversation. The food (two roast beef sunday dinners, cod and chips, and a chicken burger) was all really nicely cooked, Nicely presented and served to all of us at the same time. The roast beef was lovely and tender, the veg was fresh and perfectly cooked. The other meals got the thumbs up as well. Puds were good too, especially the vegan berry cheesecake apparently.

One of my favourite places to visit, when l travel by boat to Braunston, it’s situated next to a lock, so after you’ve done the Braunston tunnel and the locks leading to the Admiral Nelson, you’ll be just about ready for a hot meal and beer. Just revisited 11 Dec 2024 and unfortunately it hasn't got any better, the mains arrived before the starters, they were then taken back, the starter was good when it arrived, however when the mains were returned they had dried out, so not good. Tough and not tasty. At least my cats got a treat as I took the meat home. Will maybe try again in another couple of years, if it's still open. Very poor One of my local favorites no more. Starters arrived with no dips or salad, when questioned the bar staff ask what was missing, I didn't write the menu. Then waited to the point of leaving for the main which also arrived wrong, lost patients No apologies not offer of a refund ( wouldn't lower myself to ask for one) won't be bac. A real shame
