Really improved after last visit few years ago. I was worried that the long menu was going to be difficult to keep the quality up, but the red pepper arabca, kiftad and stick toffee pudding was excellent. Good selection of real ale, great atmosphere both inside and out . I really recommend this place

Excellent pub lunch. Great quality steaks cooked beautifully. Table service perfect. Baked Camembert and chutney lovely. Superb srinks selection. Lovely pub. 10/10.

Always good food and good service here

One of my favourite places to visit,when l travel by boat to Braunston, it’s situated next to a lock, so after you’ve done the Braunston tunnel and the locks leading to the Admiral Nelson, you’ll be just about ready for a hot meal and beer. It’s a dog friendly bar inside, and a separate restaurant area for table service. Very friendly people on both sides of the bar, and not forgetting the free dog biscuits for your furry friend, my little dog Magic, loves it !.

Over the last few months as I've cruised back and forth in my narrowboat, I've popped into the Admiral Nelson for either a pint, a meal, or indeed both, a number of times and so feel confident to sing its praises. The food has always been excellent, the atmosphere friendly, the staff full of smiles and the location just perfect. Craig has gone above and beyond to provide a quality service - thanks Craig. I'm sure that my boat is now unable to pass by without stopping for at least 2 nights to enjoy the hospitality of the Admiral Nelson.

This was our 2nd visit. Great Sunday menu, very good value. Staff and service excellent. A lovely canal side pub in a very tucked away location. Definitely worth the one hour journey from Oxford.

Love the Admiral Nelson, great location, always nice to sit outside in the summer. Try the Thatchers Big Apple cider!

Popped in for Sunday lunch after visiting a NB in Braunston. Very nice.

Wow! What a hidden gem. Went here for food and an afternoon of drinking with my best friend. For food, we had the Camembert and battered pigs in blankets (don’t knock it until you try it- a delicious idea!). We shared the steak king carne. The fillet was the best I had ever tasted. Service was brilliant- attentive but left us to it. Super friendly! We then went to the bar for a few drinks and then had the sticky toffee a few hours later. Locals were welcoming and chatty. A great atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will be coming back soon to taste more off the menu!

Had yet another fabulous meal here. Food was top notch, it’s not the cheapest of pubs but you’re paying for good quality. Service was great; it’s a cosy and lovely spot by the canal. I recommend.

Great service and friendly staff

One of my favourite pubs in the area. Delicious food, great quality, large portions... the best chips. I've tried many meals in there including the mixed grill, fish & chips, lamb shank. I find the waitresses very efficient and friendly but the lady behind the bar could smile more...

We dropped in for a drink, the pub atmosphere and setting was great. My pint was lovely and there was a good range of ales and lagers on tap. Looking forward to coming back to try the food.

Lovely little pub right next to the canal. Been here twice for food including a Sunday roast and both were really great! The staff as well are extremely friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

Been past a few times before and finally visited for dinner. Shared a King Carne meal with all 3 steaks cooked to perfection. A delicious Mac Cheese and potato tots to the side meant the chips were too much to handle! Best meal I've had for a long time. A friendly atmosphere with attentive staff and good service times. Would highly recommend and would love to revisit. The fajitas looked great, but it would be hard to resist another steak. It was very busy, so be sure to book!

Great food but pricy average price for a pint

Great meal in a great atmosphere. Good value for money! Food still just as good with a good choice of real ales. The Admiral Burger has to be one of the best...excellent quality and still brilliant value for money - as are all the meals. Waiting staff cannot be faulted looking after the guests brilliantly

Nice enough pub. Not too fussed on the sofas. But that's me. That's my back. Didn't have any food. Service was fine. Atmosphere is what you make it.

Went here for food whilst at a wedding at the nearby events field. The website doesn’t really reflect the quality of the food which surpassed our expectations. The service was a little slow (probably because several wedding guests had booked in before heading up to the wedding) but the staff dealt with it well. The braised lamb shank was very tasty and is recommended.

We visited last night with 4 of us, 2 couples coming from opposite directions to meet up as we hadn't seen each other for a few years. We had an amazing evening meal, The lady who I think was in charge recommended the steak which was cooked to perfection. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their night. The atmosphere was great, the restaurant was quite busy which was great to see. Both the lady and the young girl who seemed very new were both attentative to all our needs. We will definitely be back the next time we need a half way meet up point. Oh and my husband wanted me to add the beer selection was very good and so was the wine.

It wouldn't hurt the barmaid to say please, thank you or even smile. 4.60 a pint is pricey.

It's a wonderful spot to take a breather, food is delicious and staff are welcoming.

Went for a business lunch. Excellent service and the food was good quality

Been coming here for many years. After a long day getting my boat through the locks I decided to visit early knowing how busy this pub gets. I've been there when the bar is several people deep and you can't get a table. Wasn't like that today. Was really disappointed with the service. My steak was excellent and because it started raining, I had to eat inside in the restaurant. Not once did anyone check that my meal was OK. Eventually someone came to clear and I asked about desserts. A menu was bought but no one came to take my order. Finished my drink and went - sorry but your service levels are really poor and you were not even busy.

It is not a cheap place, but it is definitely worth every penny. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and professional.

Great canal side pub sadly not a very extensive vegetarian or vegan choice, good selection of beers

Tucked away in rural canalside setting but well worth digging out. True it is an Everards pub, not everyone's favorite, but the ambience, good menu and other beers make it worth it. Oh and the staff have always been lonely (2023 Dave runs it with his wife/ partner).

Has this place changed hands? Didn't feel welcome.

Very frendly staff warm welkomingh i would recomendit

I went in to ask about a menu and was met with a very blunt response, ignored it . Then after waiting 10 minutes waiting to order (it wasn’t busy), and realising I didn’t have the table number, even though there were only a few people in the pub and my friend was just outside could of shouted for the table, Then was refused service and serve someone else. Walked out. As I walked out another family also commented on the rude member of staff (they hadn’t witness my situation) . So felt I wasn’t overreacting. Almost like I was passing by so they could treat me if they wanted. Sadly I’m local to the area and I’ve always enjoyed this pub but it’s not the first time I’ve heard recent bad reviews. And even if I was passing by on what your paying the premium you expect to be treated with some respect. Shocking from Everards, as I drink in a few other Everards pubs and never a disappointment, won’t be rushing back any time soon.

Fish was not as nice as in the past

Staff very friendly and helpful. All were smiling and happy. Pub busy and the kitchen only to happy to listen to intolerances and deal with in a professional manner . We had burgers and were extremely happy. Thank you for a nice experience.

Awesome food just stunning, good sized portion and reasonably priced

Outside structure is not great, but when you go inside you can find both casual and rustic ambience. All the locks nearby are very suggestive too. The food...oh my...I think the idea of using pretzel buns is genius. Their southern chicken fried burger is the best I've ever had.

O my gosh. We visited for lunch. Food is superb. Staff super friendly and great service. My favourite food at the moment is posh fish fingers. They do the best ever beer battered fish finger in a pretzel bun. My party also had different burgers and again amazing and so tasty. The pub has a lovely homely feel. Go and try it as you won't be disappointed. Also a dog friendly pub.

Visited as a party of four. Immediately on entry we were overwhelmed by the most foul stench of sewage, any plans to eat there were rapidly cancelled. We had one just drink which we quickly took outside to consume.

Best pub by the canal near Daventry. Good beer and good but you will likely have to book to make sure you can get in. Parking can be challenging when the weather is good because it is very popular.

Very expensive food and drink. £5.10 a pint. 2 x burgers, 2 x drinks £42 in total.. No WiFi available to customers, very poor/ no signal, unable to make/receive calls. Only good thing is nice canal side views. Better and cheaper places to eat than this.

Without a doubt the best meal I've had in a long time. Beautifully tender steak cooked to perfection and the garlic greens just yummy. Recommend this gem of a place.

(Waste of money) I had the breakfast burger which was soo greasy it was unreal My daughters food was good which is the only positive really The room we sat in had a number of flys I came to this pub for the first time last week and it was brilliant so decided to take my mum there for a meal. I wish I took her mcdonalds or something instead. Gutted is an understatement What a waste of £80

Good selection of real ales reasonably priced. Food menu had a nice selection and food passing us looked good but we did not eat on this occasion so cannot comment on the taste. We parked two cars with no issues on a Saturday afternoon.

A great summer pub, by the canal. Drinks are on the high side, but when the sun's out and the views are this good....... Meh! Its worth it

Great friendly welcome as usual. Mixed grill was great although steak slightly overcooked, but it was a good piece of meat so was still tender enough to eat. On a summer evening it a nice place to sit beside the canal. Beer seems to be well kept with a small range of ales on pump. Pub is very dog friendly both inside & out....

Good food and fairly priced drinks. As canalside pubs go good value for money. Edit. Returned to the area again, but our boat's batteries failed nearby. I asked if we could have the new set delivered c/o the pub, which was agreed! Many thanks to Danni, Sharon and Pete for all their help.

The falafel and spinach burger with halloumi is delicious! One of the best veggie burgers I’ve had in years. Great service, friendly staff and the food arrived so quickly! Will definitely be back again when passing through on my boat.

Nicely decorated inside, beautiful outside being on the side of the canal. We had a table booked for late afternoon and the pub was still busy. We received a warm welcome. My only slight disappointment was that there were only 2 vegetarian choices. They were good sized portions. Everyone in our party of 5 enjoyed their meal.
