We spent a happy few hours in the beer garden at the Red Lion yesterday. Thanks to the lovely staff and super friendly locals in the bar for making us feel welcome. As weekend campers to Brook Meadow campsite down the road we were lucky to find this lovely pub. Watch out for the deliciously strong Rattler cider!

We arrived at the Red Lion later than expected due to traffic delays, but were greeted with a friendly welcome. Sarah and Andrew were kind enough to serve us some food even though the kitchen was officially closed, an adequate scampi and chips. The accommodation however was a different matter, shabby fixtures and fittings, and the bedding was clean but felt a little damp. On return after being out the following day we were greeted by an horrendous smell, not sure if it was the drains or something else, but needs attention. Informed the owner the next morning when we were leaving, but she said she couldn’t smell anything ... I find that hard to believe as it was so bad it took your breath away. Would we stay here again, no !

A long way from home, called in for dinner at 8:15 pm on the recommendation of a local where I had business that evening, a couple of miles away. Asking nicely whether we could eat, we were told that last orders was at 7:45, as service closed at 8 (which is rather early). However, the barmaid offered to check if anything was possible. Overheard from the kitchen was "Who is it?". The answer when she came back was 'no'. Evidently, being as we were strangers no effort would be made. There was barely any apology, no offer of even a minimal quick menu, not even a snack. It was not exactly busy, few customers visible. We declined to stop for a drink even (and I could have done with a pint) and went hungry. How can anyone turn away business so effectively, let alone in these times? Not at all impressed, but the "Who is it?" really put the tin lid on it. Really rude.

My wife and I were let down at the 11th hour on a house move and found ourselves in limbo. We needed temporary accommodation while we searched for a suitable replacement for the house we lost. My wife came across the Red Lion by chance. Andrew and Sarah couldn't have been more accomodating. We took one of their studio flats equipped with kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom. We intended staying no more than two weeks, we ended up staying seven! Great couple, great regulars and smashing food. We feel we've made friends for life. Sad to leave. Highly recommended.

Do not attempt to book accommodation. We were informed they do take bookings for December as they are not taking bookings this far in advance just incase there is another national lockdown. Secondly they have someone in the accommodation 'long term' so the accommodation might not be available anyway, very rude and blunt customer service!!

We have eaten at this pub a few times but have not written a review, not because the food isn't good because it is , it's very very good, unfortunately using a pub often you forget to praise it. Well this time we had to praise the Sibbertoft Red Lion, for amazing service, fabulous food, and a fantastic venue for booking a small family gathering. We were lucky enough to have the whole restaurant to our 22 people event . Sarah and Andrew could not have been more accommodating in preparing us a set menu to pre order from for our Sunday lunch surprise for a family dinner. The starters from spicy crab cakes to brie wedges or prawn cocktail were delicious, the main courses of sirloin, chicken or gammon were absolutely perfect, served with plenty of fresh vegetables and homemade Yorkshire puddings, the pub also offered us a vegetarian option. The desserts were delicious too and the portion size generous. It's a really great place to enjoy a drink in the modern bar ,or like us use a traditional decorated restaurant to have a large family traditional Sunday lunch. Service was outstanding from the small team serving all 22 of us efficiently and so politely. I would definitely recommend this pub / restaurant, a great time was had by us all.

Having had difficulty contacting the Red Lion to find out whether it was serving food I turned up for a meal one evening and was rather disconcerted to find (pleasing) modern decor in what I expected to be a village pub. The next surprise was to be given a wine list with quite an extensive and sometimes expensive list of wines, including quite a list of dessert wines, which pleased me but also dismayed me as I was driving. The beer was well kept and there was an interesting choice. Although i was eating on my own there was no chance to be bored as a village resident was wetting the head of her newly born granddaughter and everyone joined in. It was a very friendly atmosphere. The vegetable curry was good, with large poppadums and good fresh homemade chutneys. I also indulged in the hot caramel roulade with ice cream which I can recommend. It was very good value for fresh cooked food and if it were my local I would be very happy.

As we were short on time we asked if it was possible to just have a baguette, which after a quick word with the chef, we agreed to have the Bacon and Brie melt. The presentation of the food was excellent and it t was very tasty indeed. Washed down with a pint of ale, it made for a fantastic quick lunch. There was a great selection on the menu, something to suit everyone. I chose Steak with a Stilton Sauce, which was accompanied by a hand cut chips and a salad garnish. The Red Lion has won awards for its wine list and indeed it has some interesting wines (some at over £100 per bottle). So it came as a bit of a surprise that the food was pretty typical pub grub. The steaks were good and my wife had a good and plentiful smoked haddock risotto. But there was nothing outstanding about the food. Although the staff are friendly and there is a good range of beers (and gins) and it is popular with the locals there is something missing. Our overall impression on first going was of disappointment. Maybe it's the decor (it's a bit dark and dreary inside), maybe our expectations were too high given its wine award, maybe it's just the architecture of the place.

Four of us came here for lunch on a Saturday (they only do lunch on Saturday and Sunday unless you call in advance). The building isn't great and the inside is old fashioned and a little shabby - and very dark when you come in from a sunny day.At first I thought the landlady was unfriendly as there was no welcoming smile and no clue as to where you go if you're eating but it seems she is just one of those people who doesn't change the way she is and is always helpful and welcoming, but in her own way. She turned out to be lovely and very helpful and had a nice sense of humour.Between us we had three bacon and brie baguettes with chunky chips and one ham, egg and chunky chips. The chips were hand cut with the skin left on and were yummy; could have been a tad crisper but that didn't matter. It was simple food done well so not a huge test of cooking skill but even the simple things can be done badly in the wrong hands so we would definitely return.

I was disppointed with my visit to the Red Lion at Sibbertoft because the welcome was cool and room temperature cold. I had expected to be offered a better selection of wines from behind the bar than what was available. The red wine bought was quite cool, probably because the room temperature was cold and the evening quite early. The beer served was good. However the cost of the round seemed a little on the high side compared with visits to other local public houses. This was a quick stop off for a drink with friends so I am unable to comment on food, reservations etc.I have given the benefit of the doubt in my marking by giving 3 stars despite my low marking in service etc.Although this Public House is listed as Market Harborough this is its postal town. It is actually in Sibbertoft which is about 7 miles from Market Harborough. Hence my initial search on trip advisor failed to find it.I do not like giving downbeat reports so will visit again in the next couple of weeks when I hope I can be more upbeat.

Sunday Lunch with Sister, Father and Brother In Law. A really nice Sunday Lunch, two of us the traditional roast and two had other meals off the menu. Not the best beef I have ever had but nice enough with plenty of vegetables. The merlot and beef pie was packed with meat and look delicious and my sister’s wild boar burger went down well. A unique part of the meal was establishing the origin of the grapes served with the cheese platter, we discovered they were off the vine in the garden, must admit first time I have been servded local grapes in this country. The pub prides itself on its wine selection and has a unique virtual bottle service which enables you to have a different wine with each course without having to buy a bottle of each. Pretty good value for money and a cheerful and friendly reception from the staff. Well worth another visit.

I do the reviews, my husband passes comment. He's not the culinary expert but said 'this would make a great local, just a shame we live 30 minutes drive away'.Twice a year my close family dine out on a Sunday in remembrance of Mum. It's always nice to try somewhere new and Sibbertoft was this Novembers choice. The website made it appealing and accepting a 'taste card' (which I'd got from Virgin free on booking a holiday) made it a good idea.We were made very welcome and chatted to the landlady prior to being seated. The Sunday roast choice was limited (beef or chicken) so two of us dined off the standard menu which was sufficiently varied and other than the steaks, very reasonably priced. My first choice of starter was unavailable but that didn't cause a problem and as a homage to Mum I picked a tasty prawn cocktail!Somewhat off piste I picked wild boar burger for my main which was almost as nice as my husband's very un Sunday beef and merlot pie, as home made as it comes.Although I prefer savory food, the deserts were as good as they get. My Orange & Cointreau brûlée was perfect and my husbands date & sticky toffee pudding was lovely and light but also a huge portion.Wine plays a big part of this business and the bottle of South African Shiraz/Viognier hit the spot. Another reason for living nearer is they serve an interesting combination of single glasses called a virtual bottle.Honest businesses like this deserve success. Not sure when we'll return but undoubtedly we will.
